my friend just called me up saying that he recieved ICS update notification on his SK17i. unfortunately my wifi is not working so we will update it in morning. i will post screenshots after that. all indian SK17 users can check thier phones
Does it update at the same time in different countries?and...What about st15i?
can anyone confirm that?
have anyone received ICS official update in your sony ericsson?
updates are region dependent. about ST15, i can't check because i unlocked bootloader and running CM7.
Didn't he thought the fw version (4.0.2...) was ICS, right?
So?? no official update?

LOL... No ICS update I only got .62 firmware version
I also got upgrade prompt to .62, not ICS, but I don't want to upgrade cos' it will break my root.
Is there any way to get rid of the stupid notification?
Fota update will not break your root access.

Got notified of the update, too.
My phone told me I couldn't update over the air so I had to do it via PC Companion. This did in fact break my root.

You would probably loose your phone too as there isnt a 2.3.4 rom out for the play apart from CM7
write the wrong thing
Are you talking about the new xloud update? If so I believe others have tried it and lost their root. There is also a chance of bricking if you have your bootloader unlock since that update is not OTA.
If you mean from 2.3.2 to 2.3.3 then do it OTA and you will not loose your root.
The OTA of 2.3.4 is out in the UK and I am tempted to update seeing as how the 2.3.3 update kept the root in place.
Can anyone here verify updating a rooted Play from 2.3.3 to 2.3.4 using OTA works and keeps the phone rooted afterwards?
2.3.4 already out in the UK? Really?

It's not... I'm using generic uk, it is still 2.3.3.

Its definitely out in the UK, the OTA version anyway. Got the system update alert yesterday and tried updating this morn.
The update downloaded (8mb) but didn't install probably cause I messed up with Titanium.

Wassup Guyz!
I just bought a sk17a yestewrday and I can't wait to root it. I don't wanna unlock bootloader, neither install custom kernels and ROMs, at least for a while.
So I saw many topics here saing "4.0.2.A.0.62 can't be rooted, downgrade to 4.0.2.A.0.58 (I did it using wootan server) and upgrade back to 4.0.2.A.0.62 by Update Center OTA."
Okay, firmware downgrade, phone rooted using Doomlord v4. But when I try to update my phone, it says its already updated! I can't get back to 4.0.2.A.0.62 anymore, if I want to stay rooted... after upgrading from PC Companion, it wiped my phone and I lost root.
Anyone knows what to to, so I can get a rooted stock 4.0.2.A.0.62 w/o unlocking my bootloader, installing custom roms and kernels?
Thanks in advance!
Downgrading, rooting on older firmware and then upgrade via OTA is the only way to get .62 rooted. Another thing you can do is to use flashtool and flash a .62 rom pre-rooted. Just search in the forum
Did you choose US Generic and 0.58 firmware?Double check if you flash the right firmware...currently,only US Generic can be update using OTA...

Sure,as long as your bootloader aren't unlocked...and the download take about 5 minutes (fast connection) / 10 minutes (average connection) / 15+ minutes (slow connection)
But if you want latest firmware with root access, flash back to stock Rom other than 0.62,root using DoorLord step and OTA update it

firmware below .62
if you don't want to downgrade or unlock BL to get root, just check -before buyin- the build number of the phone you want to buy, and be sure its below .62

In my case, doing that gives me a failure OTA update thats why I'm forced to reflash .42
Doing OTA directly over .62 gave me a failure too. Here's what I did- flashed stock .42, root (and updated the SU app and binary and ticked 'OTA Survival', updated to .84 via OTA.. Success. Feels li'l bit snappier and ya battery stays up good. But maybe it's jst a placebo cuz GB has always hav been snappy n fast on my mini.

I meant to say, after flashing the .42 ftf and then rooting, I updated the 'Superuser' app from Play Store, because the version that is pushed through is old..and dsn't show the 'OTA Survival' checkbox.
But I think that is not necessary. You can just flash the .42, then root and then do OTA and update to .84.

If you are on .58 I would download the scripts from "how to root .431" (local-prop and push-root-files). On .58 root, run local-prop, do the update over the air, on .84 run push-root-files. Should work
