Ive always noticed that when I take a pic, and then look at it in gallery, I never get the pic I just took, ie its like a thumbnail of it. I often take a quick snap of writing or lists etc, but this low res version sometimes makes it very hard to see.
I also remember when I was trying to show off the screen, id take a 4mb nat geo pic, try and zoom in, and it looked like ****e really quickly because it was taking a thumbnail.
Do you think its possible with the resources available our phones would smoothly be able to handle the high res [or if not a higher res] version of the gallary?

I think if you wait long enough it renders the higher res thumbnail but it takes awhile. I could be wrong though, haven't really gone into the gallery much.

For the sake of the thread, is there anyway to prioritize this action or make it run in the background so the higher resolution images are preloaded to avoid having to wait?

The new Gallery3D app came with froyo increased the res but it is still not full as the original pic.

Hence my unableness to read text ive taken a picture of, when the actual pic is perfectly fine. I dont might having to toggle super high res mode, or waiting longer etc, I just want to be able to zoom in with original quality.
Not sure if it views it in hi-res but I have noticed that Astro views it a bit better and loads it faster as well. Perhaps give it a try and see if it help at all..
B&B Multi Touch Gallery was working for me to view full resolution, but I feel like it's been abandoned and probably isn't worth buying. Really wish the built in gallery could get it's **** together. Wish they had an options menu with the ability to reduce visual effects to improve picture loading speed and quality.
Just got my N1.
Does it record in 720p or is that a feature only available through root?
I'm on FRF91, thanks!

I think you need to root and load a different ROM. Try CyanogenMod. Search is your friend!
At this second no N1 on Froyo records 720p, theres a bit of trouble porting it. But yes, you would have to root to get it when its release.
I too prefer the default gallery to get its **** together, as its the one which is always there, and the one linked to camera.

First off this is not my app. I went back to the vibrant for a bit and found this. It works perfect on the MT4G so I figured I'd show it to you guys.
It was made by avdaga and his original thread is: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=918945
Pretty much it's what the 3D gallery should do. Not just sway the pictures when you move the phone but actually scroll through them.
*If you have the aosp 3D gallery installed already you'll need to uninstall it before installing this one.

Hi there,
For a school project I have modified the Gallery3D application to enable scrolling, zooming etc by using the accelerometer.
I have made a short demonstration which can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xYkblRYPcY
The mod is based on CyanogenMod-android_packages_apps_Gallery3D-a63279d.
It would be very cool to use scrolling for the selection of pictures within the album grid, so one could open/close the picture by shaking... However, the sourcecode was not so well documented and we couldn't find some functions that would help us implementing this... I must note, the source contains 50+ classes, we have only looked into a few.
For installation instruction check http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=752007
Current Functionality added
VolDown: en/disable motion (disabled by default)
Gallery:
● Scroll by tilting
● Reset to first by shaking
Image view:
● Next/Prev by tilting L/R
● Zoom in/out by tilting U/D
● Reset zoom by shaking
With some help I hope to add the following in the future:
● In grid mode: Select center image
● In grid mode: Open image by shaking
● In grid mode: Prevent scrolling out of the grid range
● In picture mode: return to album by shaking
● In picture mode: initialize zooming at current tilt angle, and zoom from there by holding an overlay button (next to the zoomin/zoomout overlay buttons)
If anyone could help me a hand with the image selection, e.g. by giving me a direction where to find functions for this, I'd be very greatfull!
I'm wondering what you think about it, your questions/remarks are very welcome

I dont remember ever getting the icons, I was just thinking about that yesterday. Maybe I missed the PM or something. I will have to go back and look. I was just playing with my buddies Vibrant. He just put the Froyo update on and was wondering if the lag fix would work. it is so laggy compared to the Glacier. I couldn't believe it. I didnt think his screen seemed much better than mine (good screen) and his seemed kinda color tinted. I dont watch movies or anything like that, I am sure there is a big difference there. I probably couldnt watch a movie on it anyways, that would require me not messing with it for like 2 hours and that aint happening. lol
Hey I saw you were making a zip for that guy in the other thread with the batt icons...YOU ROCK PACK!!! Thanks for everything!!!
Ha...when I posted this you had posted 420 times....I guess I know what I have to do!!
ill resend em to ya... no big deal... I always lose stuff in the ridicules number of messages i have lol
side note: lol after I saw your post I tried not to make another for a while because of that (and i dont even smoke anymore lol) just though it was funny as hell... I didn't notice until you posted that...

goto gallery.apk or gallery3D.apk (cant remember what its called)

then install this one
i installed it again in root explorer then appmonster backed it up then deleted from appmonster. then moved this apk and installed. works perfect! Thanks for the tip!

The reason for that is because it is made from the original gallery app. So when you try to install it your device thinks your installing a duplicate application and denies it.

Hi all
I am using streak but can't find good screenshot program. Anyone solve this problem?
If i take a screenshot, it took reversed. I have to rotate that to see. That bugs me.
Plz. Help me. Thanks guys.
Sent from my Dell Streak using Tapatalk
I personally use drocap2 but I have to rotate the shot.
ScreenshotIT has a rotate option in the menu but I haven't had good luck with it
The issue with the rotated screen shots is a Streak issue, all of the screen shot apps do it.
drocpa2 with the swap endian setting checked and screenshot by Kastersoft (formerly GikSoft) work for me.
I tried a paid app that had a setting for auto-rotating the images but they cam out pink. (don't remember which one)

Marvin, I think that was the ScreenshotIt app that I also tried, which has a menu setting that will rectify the "pink" issue, BUT only the pink issue, more times than not my screenshot looked like a negative, which there is also an option for, but it didn't always work, so I switched back to drocap2 and it never gives me any problems.
I don't understand why it defaults to display the image in portrait mode if the Streak, at least mine anyway, is default landscape. I wrote the devs back a while ago and they responded that they are working an a fix just for tablets that should take care of the Streak and anything else 5" and up, so I'm anxious to see that
For me the best way is using a desktop application called myphoneexplorer it is very useful and has an option to take shot.

You might want to link to that. The Screenshot It I found is $3.99, there is a free trial that will take 5 screenshots. Sometimes the names are similar.
ok, will do.
The developer has finally fixed the "tint" issue with Screenshot It.
Now it works like it should, & it's a breeze taking screenshots.
You still have to tick the "flip picture" box, but that's all.
I believe it's the best screenshot app for the Streak.
If having to flip the screenshots manually after taking them really bugs you Screenhot It does have a setting for flipping them automatically. I found two apps with that name, so since none of the posters who recommended Screenshot It linked to it, I will.
Screenshot It trial
You can test with the trial version, the paid version is $4, which is a too much IMO.
The trail version says that you get 5 test shots, I only got three and when I took the third a dialog box popped up urging me to buy from the market that could not be dismissed (I didn't try killing the app) so you could not even finish processing the last screenshot (I wanted to see how the share options were handled) . When I ran Screenshot It to see if it had an exit option on the menu after taking the last screenshot the notice to buy also popped up and I could not even browse the settings.
For an app that costs $4 the trail is too short and too limited.
BTW - the attachment was taken with drocap2, which is still my favorite screenshot app.

WOW!!!!!...How much did it cost and from where did you buy?
Here's the Market link to Kastor Soft Screenshot. I used this one, and other than the image being inverted (easily fixed on the PC), worked quite well.
This is not really a question, but more of a suggestion for those who can't stand to use the current Camera on Liquid and Jesters Roms. Personally, I take a lot of pictures with my phone and the quality from that APK was quite bad when it was dark compared to what it was.
So after a lot of research, here's what I did:
Downloaded Root Explorer from the Google Play.
Browsed to system/app
Mount R/W and deleted Camera.apk
Downloaded this camera apk from MIUI: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15307536&postcount=167
Installed it and voila - working camera with focus.
Note: Camcorder still doesn't work
I'm not sure if it's required to uninstall the Camera.apk (chances are no), however it's what I done.
think this may work with AOKP?

You mean it shows the controls, but a blank screen right? You have to take one picture like that, and after that it displays the screen and it works fine. You'll have to do that each time you start up the app unfortunately, but still it's better than crap quality and no focus.

With the resolution of the Google Nexus 10 being at 2560 by 1600, it can yield some incredibly good displays if the image is matched to the Native panel resolution. Check out the latest wallpaper taking advantage of this exact resolution I'm using on my own Google Nexus 10.

Go to gallery and when it asks for the application to open the image, select pic speed wallpaper(available for free in play store). Picspeed does notforce you to crop.
It was pretty stupid for them to force us to crop our 1600p wallpapers. Seems like we need to wait for a while to get software optimized for nexus 10

Very good point. I used pic speed too, but if its scrollable then there isn't anyway that it's actually leveraging the image's native resolution. If anyone knows a fix please let us know.

Although I don't have a nexus 10, wouldn't this be because of the nav bar at the bottom? That would take up however many pixels leaving the screensaver to be 2560 x 1500 or so?

No, the stock one would let you select only a fraction of the wallpaper if its very big like a 1600p one like how it should on a 4 inch screen. On a 10inch screen it looks magnified and ugly.

You need to make your wallpaper a size that accounts for scrolling. It's 3966x2560 on this device. In landscape mode, only 1456 of the 2560 will be visible.
or use a launcher that you can disable wallpaper scrolling like apex or nova.
