Kernel question - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

forgive me if this has already been anwsered.. I did a quick search and found nothing... but sense where all waiting for the ice kernal to drop.. what exactly does it take if a Dec wanted to create their own ice based kernal? Or is this to complicated... sorry it's just a random question I have no plans in found so

I've created a ICS kernel already, been using it for a month now. Just greedy, don't want to share with you all. Its not that complicated, even a noob can do it.

It would be way to complicated. Entropy makes it sound like we need to international gs2 ics kernal to start the ics dev.

To create a kernel from scratch, one who would need to have made the phone itself to understand the drivers, as well as have insanely extensive knowledge in Linux development.
Since none of us here have worked on the actually making of I777, it would be impossible. But to make things difficult on our developers, Samsung hasn't even released the full source for our phone, nor for the international version ICS.

Yeah, atinm and codeworkx know their **** - they've been focusing on I9100 because it has what they need.
To make it clear - People like atinm and codeworkx HATE using initramfs repacks for Cyanogenmod. (I do too, but I don't want to group myself with them as I'm not in their league) However, their attempts to make a Gingerbread kernel ICS-compatible didn't work out very well - this works on some devices but clearly not the I9100. Most likely Samsung changed some of the kernel/userspace interfaces and there is no documentation of these changes - so even if you did reimplement their drivers on a Linux 3.0 source code base, Samsung broke compatibility of those older drivers with newer firmwares.
The end result is that I9100 CM9 releases are using initramfs-repacked kernels.
Oh and it's KERNEL not KERNAL.

I was gonna mention codeworkx also.. And thanks as always for the helpful info!

I think it's quite fast to be honest. We had a ROM and root before the device was even released!
Saying that, I'm pleased with the speed and interface on the s3 as it is (for now), so finding little reason to install custom.
Once voodoo is enabled on a kernel I'll look at installing a custom one.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using XDA
lols you call being rooted already even when the rooter didn't have the device slow?
you call having beta roms already floating around even when the device was just released slow?
the only time i'll say development is slow is if a certain gavin-phelan actually manages to develop something let's say the next decade for this sgs3.
come on you devs! where are your developments?!?!?! what's taking all of you so long?! it's so easy to develop something you know, even us random posters cand do it fast and easy!
you are all so ##$$&@*@ slow for gavin-phelan's sake!
very few devs would spend $700 for a device.

USA has different specs and this model is not going to get released here anyway. To the op, cm9 developers are working on this and aosp roms always take some time after release since they have to do some device specific tweaks. Right now most roms will be stock variants.

Now since where on this topic Siyah kernel is really not that good on my galaxy s2 i777 when I try to over clock it to 1.4 it freeze and I have to pull battery and the only stable mode I can get to is 1.3 buy once I do quadrent test its even lower then when I had stock ics kernel I would get 4000 on the scores but now I get less check the pic out its right now over clock to 1.4 and I get around 2400 to 3100
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using xda premium
That score on the screen shot was from stock ics
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using xda premium
Answer!
whats your point. benchmark scores are placebo.
OCing causes issues. all kernels, frequency's, and so on are all device dependent.
there is no best, better or worst.

So u have an international version of this phone. Why not try the international i9100 forum? Also , nothing rooted into the touchwiz framework will work on aosp with a simple copy paste. The aosp rom would have to be heavily modified. Making it not aosp at all I suppose ha.good luck happy flashing.

You never know guys, because all ICS roms are based off I9100 bases, he could still have that as the XDA app signature default, so he may actually have an I777.
OP, sorry but I doubt it's possible. But I could be wrong.

Well, don't I feel ashamed. :silly:
I guess I haven't been on here lately enough. Back when ICS source code for I9100 was first released and I777 leaks were trickling in, it was my understanding that most ROMs were I9100 based because official ATT ICS leaks had an older firmware base, their kernels and ROMs were based off such old architecture that Entropy chose not to support the leaks. I even remember a mod accidentally moving a ROM thread to the Ported dev section because it was based off I9100 base, but he moved it back because the majority of the ROMs in development at the time were also I9100 based; the I777 based ROMs just weren't very good. I thought it had always stayed this way, but since I never payed much close attention to AOKP and other AOSP-like ROMs (I'm in the minority that actually like TW), I guess I didn't learn enough about them to know this wasn't the case, and/or that it had changed later (I have no idea which one is true).
In any case, this thread is done.

If you can, could you please please work on it more and try to get it to work we really need to get a working kernel for jb sense. If you can create a working ION kernel then a bunch of sense jb roms will pop out in the development section because Chevy already made some. However, only the kernel is missing. I will probably make a JB sense rom too.
