A lot of developers are from countries where the SGS3 isn't available yet, e.g. the US. Give it a bit of time

I think it's quite fast to be honest. We had a ROM and root before the device was even released!
Saying that, I'm pleased with the speed and interface on the s3 as it is (for now), so finding little reason to install custom.
Once voodoo is enabled on a kernel I'll look at installing a custom one.

lols you call being rooted already even when the rooter didn't have the device slow?
you call having beta roms already floating around even when the device was just released slow?
the only time i'll say development is slow is if a certain gavin-phelan actually manages to develop something let's say the next decade for this sgs3.
come on you devs! where are your developments?!?!?! what's taking all of you so long?! it's so easy to develop something you know, even us random posters cand do it fast and easy!
you are all so ##$$&@*@ slow for gavin-phelan's sake!
very few devs would spend $700 for a device.

USA has different specs and this model is not going to get released here anyway. To the op, cm9 developers are working on this and aosp roms always take some time after release since they have to do some device specific tweaks. Right now most roms will be stock variants.

Rooting a Samsung's nothing though because Samsung wants it to be easy so doesn't include any encryption.

It would be way to complicated. Entropy makes it sound like we need to international gs2 ics kernal to start the ics dev.

To create a kernel from scratch, one who would need to have made the phone itself to understand the drivers, as well as have insanely extensive knowledge in Linux development.
Since none of us here have worked on the actually making of I777, it would be impossible. But to make things difficult on our developers, Samsung hasn't even released the full source for our phone, nor for the international version ICS.

Yeah, atinm and codeworkx know their **** - they've been focusing on I9100 because it has what they need.
To make it clear - People like atinm and codeworkx HATE using initramfs repacks for Cyanogenmod. (I do too, but I don't want to group myself with them as I'm not in their league) However, their attempts to make a Gingerbread kernel ICS-compatible didn't work out very well - this works on some devices but clearly not the I9100. Most likely Samsung changed some of the kernel/userspace interfaces and there is no documentation of these changes - so even if you did reimplement their drivers on a Linux 3.0 source code base, Samsung broke compatibility of those older drivers with newer firmwares.
The end result is that I9100 CM9 releases are using initramfs-repacked kernels.
Oh and it's KERNEL not KERNAL.
I was gonna mention codeworkx also.. And thanks as always for the helpful info!

Hello all, I have finally decided to root my S3. I just have one question though, what app would be good to backup all my settings, pics, apps and everything else? Also what is a good Rom to use that's fast and based on jellybean?
Sent from my SGH-I747M using xda app-developers app
You can use titanium backup. As for the ROM it depends, some prefer stock with custom kernel others prefer asop ROMs. You should browse the forums and decide for yourself. Also next time search and only make a new thread if you can't really find an answer, the moderators may get mad at you.

What's the difference between asop and stock with different kernel? I read some older topics and just go too confused.

read the OP. it explains the different naming schemes of various different ROMs. it also lists all the roms that fall into different categories of aosp, aokp, stock, and others.

Not really..... All he asked was if anyone was working on it.
It may happen, but not for a while probably. There is a lot of developing going on behind the scenes. Unofficial builds may start to float around before CyanogenMod Team releases official nightlies, so keep on looking!

It's not meant to be funny. What he means is you're an ungrateful prat.
You ask a question, people give you useful answers & you effectively throw those answers back in their faces. Classy :-/
No wonder some people (me included) tend to give lazy people (like you) the 'search' answer rather than take the time to explain the obvious/easily found or do all the work for you. Ain't worth it.
