Hey,
I know there is a similar thread to this but I just can't find it. Sorry guys.
Well let me tell the problem. After removing the backcover a few times I find that the backcover started to make squish sounds. Sounds come off from somewhere in middle of right side between volume and video button. It is clear that something has broken but can't figure out what. Issue seems to come from the backcover scratching the bezel. This makes me for the first time think about letting my amaze go. Tell me what you think please.
Cheers
I have that same noise..its frustrating..i just got this phone not longer than 3 weeks..

Looked more into it and yes it's coming from the bezel and the back cover. Very frustrating ..we need a solution ......apart from getting a new phone

Try This:
Take out the phone from the battery cover, Now push the white locking tab inwards while putting the battery cover back on, it makes a huge difference for me.
Hope the same for you, let me know if it helped.

I thinly cut up some command strips (only peeled off one side) and put them on the back cover near the spots the noise was coming from. Took 7 but it feels much more solid now and no noise.

Man this phone is awesome bit it has so many issues
1. Capacitive buttons lights leak to the screen
2. Camera flash also bleeds into pictures
3. A dead pixel
4. The backcover noise
5. Lack of full support from htc

Don't know how valid this is because I use a tight case. But someone said to put it in a cold place, like a garage or outside or even the refrigerator. His argument was that the case would shrink and while small you could fit it back on.

If you take the back cover off and you look on the back just to the top left corner of the battery there is a small spring loaded contact. If you look at the corresponding area inside of the back cover you will see a small mark on the aluminum where it is rubbing (on the inside about half way down from the bottom of the volume rocker and the top of the camcorder button).
It seems like too much of a coincidence that there is a spring loaded bearing in the exact area causing the squeaking and that not be part of the issue.
Does anyone know if that is an electrical contact like some of the other ones on the top half of the phone?

Pretty sure they are the contacts for the phone antenna. The manual warns that the phone antenna are built into the back cover and to make sure that the cover is on tightly to receive proper phone and data signal. Might want to be careful of these with paper or command strips when making the cover fit!

I tried but is really difficult to capture that detail. U can notice it only if you have it in ur hand. But yes the new white back cover they shipped me is sharper while the old black one is more curved. If somebody ever happens to go to the store and try to see the difference fine. The phone looks sexy with the "new design"

Remember white iPhone? There was almost 1 year delay, because white plastic is more fragile... Maybe we have the same case here, so they decided to modify design... Or simply different manufacturer means different die (matrix)...

we will have no idea what you mean until you provide atleast some pictures!!! even if its hard to tell...I have no idea what you mean by "sharper"
I mean at the bottom of the cover the black or white area that has "with htc sense" written they have made it tighter as if they were trying to fix that issue with the backcover getting loose and making that noise when you used to press the phone on left bottom side. Lets say if before the with htc sense area looked like the front of a toyota, now looks like the front of a corvette lol they have lowered itmade it thinner just that area. And no pic ican post two pics but is useless. I opened this thread and made it clear it is something u can notice if u have both covers so if there is some other member and has both covers he can confirm this
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using xda premium
I just have the white. But I'm assuming you mean cover fits on tighter. Since you mentioned that there were issues with the black one coming off. I can attest its a really good/tight fit. The guy at the store couldn't get it on and I had to help him. Then I had to get used to it myself because it seems like it could be really easy to damage it.

I suppose its possible that if the original black ones were loose they both may have been redesigned.

Check them in the light and rotate the cover to see the change. When u type for example notice the white cover is somehow longer at then end. close to the capacitive keys it is "outter" while the black one is kinda "inner" anyways might just be mine that way thats why was wondering if somebody else noticed it

Hey all, I need some help. I need a camera app or even a system tweak that will allow me to adjust the flash setting of the camera. Currently, we only have ON, OFF or AUTO. There should be an option for soft flash as well. Im not an ass, I just dont believe in sticking crap to my note when I'm sure there could be a software solution to the idea. NEXT!
Found this online....
HTC has an alternative API that supports this, however it's only on HTC Sense devices, and as of Gingerbread they've changed the permissions so it's only for their Flashlight app, not third party ones (unless you use root).
But on 2.2 HTC devices you can use it by writing a string to /sys/devices/platform/flashlight.0/leds/flashlight/brightness. This controls if the LED is on and how bright it is. For maximum brightness write "128\n", half brightness write "64\n". Easy to test from adb shell:
echo "128" > /sys/devices/platform/flashlight.0/leds/flashlight/brightness
And finally turn it off by writing "0\n" there.
Would Devs be able to use this info to create a system tweak to provide options for the flash intensity for the user?

The way you responded was pretty douchey, just saying. Especially since it's a valid idea. You could cut a tiny square of matte scotch tape to stick on the flash and you wouldn't even notice it on your phone.

Put a piece of thin tissue over the flash. This is an easy thing to do especially if you have a case on your device. Stop being a **** to people, atleast they are tryin to give you a solution to your problem. You should thank them not lash out at them.
You're right. I apologize to all that i have offended.
Now can we have a solution to this problem that doesn't require adhesive or paper or anything even close to this type of solution. Please, only software related solutions.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using Tapatalk 2
In OP's defense; they did ask for software or app tweaks, not physical mods.
In defense of the other responders; using white plastic and/or cheap invisible tape IS a method used even by professional photogs to get that soft, dreamy glow. As mentioned in another post, if you have a case and are needing a semi-permanent solution, cut a small square out of a shopping bag. Use layers and different color bags to achieve the results that you're looking for.

The best solution is to take the picture of your niece in the day time WITHOUT Flash. Problem solved. Pictures with flash have little quality compared to daytime captures IMO.
My gf hates that I keep closing my eyes when taking pictures with flash at night. I guess I will bring sunglasses with me at all times.
-Once you go NOTE, you'd say 4 inches a Joke
Take pictures with out flash in lighted areas
then you can maybe use filters or a camera app that can give you different filters to enhance the brightness of the picture
in dark areas idk ....it is a bright flash and dont know of any apps/mods to dim the flash
and i wouldnt stick anything to my Note either
it hurts to have it in a case but i have to protect it lol

And that's why I responded the way I did before. I'm OCD about keeping my phone immaculate and sticking things to it makes me cringe.
Now there has to be a solution. I prefer taking pictures with flash indoors because if not, i notice the pics turn out pixelated. (in my home atleast)

Let me understand the problem
Niece is only available for pictures at night and or in dark basements...?
Solution:
Just carry a halogen flashlight with you at all times, or a candle is good too but could burn if placed too close to skin
If the flashlight is too bright for her eyes you can cut a piece of tape and cover the lense..
Now is good and your note doesn't have any glue from tape.. Problem solved, Leave a "thanks" bellow please.

My wife got the DNA yesterday and she is very excited about the new phone (coming from four years on the iPhone). However, the phone makes a fairly loud snapping sound if you press and then release the back cover. It does the same when you squeeze from side to side. Not too hard, it happens even with a normal amount of pressure necessarily if to pick it up. It appears the back cover may not be attached or glued property.
Do you think I should replace it?

I'm 100% sure the weird vibrating is coming from the sim card slot/tray within the phone. It's some sort of locking mechanism, seems normal though.
Dust under screen - never heard of it before on 1x+.
Capacitive backlight bleed - mine has it too but it's hardly noticeable and you'll see it only in very very dark areas. Took me a week to realize my phone has it.
Sim tray buzzing noise - this is probably related - when shaking my phone in a certain way, I hear very faint rattling.
I think the dust under screen alone is enough to get you motivated to have the phone replaced. The other two issues, I personally can live with it.

Well since I have a return period at AT&T I think I'm just going to return it.
There are three specks of dust (medium sized) under the screen, not a big deal but that's annoying.
There's a gap that collects dust between the SEAL and the GLASS DISPLAY. Not just the edge, it makes contact with the display and is loose, the seal is not connected properly.
There is a rattling when phone vibrates which is the sim card tray I believe.
And finally that capacitive backlight button bleed, annoys the heck outta me.
So I'll be returning it tomorrow to get a replacement. Wish me luck guys.
Quick update, went and exchanged and got home, and noticed the vibration was fixed, dust was fine but guess what!? There's still a gap in the seal, and I know it's a gap because when I push the whole screen down against the rubber seal the light disappears! Just great HTC, guess I'm going back for my third tomorrow!

Anybody else have this light bleed or is this just luck of the draw?
Just to give this thread some closure. I walked into the AT&T store told the guy about this and he kind of acted like the whole ordeal was stupid, replied with I can't see it and since it's your second repair you must go through the AT&T global store and call this number yadda yadda. I didn't want to be without a phone and was afraid of the same problem once again. So I traded the HTC One X+ in for the SGS3. So long story short, this thing has an amazing build quality and surprisingly feels much sturdier than the One X+. The only thing it lacks is where the processor is and how fast it goes. Thanks though guys, sorry for leaving you! Hope all goes well and HTC gets all of these problems sorted out!
Well since you have the S3 make sure to try Task&ktoons AOKP rom. Smooth as butter its all I ever ran on my s2 and s3
