Hi All,
Have been trying to find out how to fix my SGS2 after i totally messed it up.
I bought the phone from a friend. It was locked to O2 (UK) and my O2 sim wqs recognised.
I stupidly thought i could upgrade Android and unlock the sim lock myself.
I am a newbie and thought i could follow a few threads on web to unlock and upgrade but have a made a big mess for myself.
I tried to use Galaxy S Unlock, but stupidly ran it twice. I also tried "the other" method to unlock consisting of 3 steps.
I tried loading ice cream sandwich. Used Odin back and forth trying to restore various firmware versions to how it was when i received it. Have repartitioned stupidly also.
I have factory reset using key recovery mode, and also settings/back to factory mode.
I noticed at some point in all this the phone will not recognise any SIM at all even my O2 one - just says emergency calls only.
After factory reset is done the reboot script comes up with "Can't access to 'system/csc/O2U/system. Is this because something is now missing for it to recognise there is an O2 sim in it ?
What have i done and how can i get my phone back to how it was when i received it. Think it was on WKF3 when i received it if my memory is correct.
Pls help me in easy steps if possible - i know how to use Odin and root but dont get too technical with me !
A thousand thanks.
Paul
Go to the branded provider roms post and via Odin flash the full O2 firmware ,
Carrier branded .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113928
Does not matter which one as long as its O2 you need to clear the mess on your phone .

thanks for your fast reply.
Looking at the carrier branded page you linked ..for O2 UK.... there is:
XWKF3: http://www.multiupload.com/9D0GC3P3N5
Firmware info: PDA: XWKF3 Phone: XXKE7 CSC:O2UKG2
XWKF3 Stock Kernel:http://www.multiupload.com/5EXK8MLNE7
Password is: [email protected]
which of these should i odin to the phone ... first or the Stock Kernel ?
Paul
hmm...next problem
I used Odin 1,85 to flash the kernel file
I9100XWKF3_Kernel.tar
, then flashed the associated firmware file:
GT-I9100_O2U_I9100XWKF3_I9100XXKE7_I9100O2UKG2.TAR
Now the Samsung screen shows, then the O2 screen, back to Samsung, back to O2 screen and so on !
oops...What now ?

Boot phone into recovery (Vol-up+Home+Power) then wipedata/factory reset.
You don't need to flash both kernel and firmware. The kernel is included in the firmware.
The firmware you flashed isn't the latest one for O2 UK, that's XWKJ1
XWKJ1: http://www.multiupload.com/RZ91I3IIWG
Firmware info: PDA: XWKJ1| Phone: XXKI4 CSC:O2UKJ1
cannot download XWKJ1
because it points to Megaupload which has been closed down.
Can i use do the Wipe data/factory reset" and then load the XWKF3 i downloaded earlier instead of the XWKJ1 ?
Also, does it matter if i do the above without my O2 sim in the handset ?

No problem .
Your main aim is to get a working connection does not matter at this point if its old firmware .

flashed XWKF3 firmware after factory reset and same old "Emergency calls only" showing when i drag the top bar down
If i put the sim into my old phone it works just fine so it is the SGS2 that i've 'bricked'.
Any other ideas very welcome.

FYI, MegaUpload was just the first link on the multiupload page. If you scroll down, there are seven other file sharing links.

1. There are other links in http://www.multiupload.com/RZ91I3IIWG besides Megaupload. The 'fileserve' one appears to be working OK.
2. Wipe Data/Factory Reset might let you get past the boot loop without reflashing the firmware (XWKF3 or XWKJ1). Otherwise do the wipe and then try reflashing the firmware.
3. Don't think it matters whether the sim is in or not.
If you do manage to get the firmware loaded and the phone still does not recognise the sim card then go to settings>about phone> status and see if the IMEI number matches the one on the label underneath the battery. If not then you have probably lost the contents of your /efs folder. Hopefully you made a backup of the /efs folder before you started messing with the phone - as recommended frequently in this forum!. If not then you're probably in big trouble. Fixing this, if it is possible without returning to Samsung, is way beyond my expertise. There are numerous threads/posts on the subject of a lost /efs though. I don't have the time, or inclination, to go through them as it's nearly beer o'clock.
Hope you manage to sort it.

Hi,
I think you hit the nail on the head. The firmware is all loaded...no problem...but as you suspected the IMEI's dont match:
Software in settings menu: 004999010640000
Under battery : 359585043xxxx68
oh dear....didnt even realise i needed a backup of the /efs folder. doh.
Can anyone help me now or is it back to Samsung for resetting or... ?
Damn.

Their is a restore thread or two around and some say use KTool
http://www.appbrain.com/app/ktool/net.hellcat.droiddev.ktool

Ktool
As i have no EFS backup, looking at the options is this the one i need...
- Format EFS (create fresh filesystem for cases where you want to restore seperate files or a .tar backup, but the filesystem is stuck/locked in read-only due to corruption)
Seems like you need to have the necessary raw .img or .tar on the phone already which i suspect is not on my phone.
Thanks for your help guys. will check google for thread on how to get imei's to sync.

I'm hoping someone can tell me the exact filenames of the rom and or kernel I need to restore my Galaxy S2 to stock rom for O2 UK.
I've tried various UK ones from this thread and flashed using Odin. But all that happens is a boot loop everytime. The recent one I tried was I9100XWKE1_I9100XXKDJ_I9100O2UKE1_HOME.tar
but as mentioned, all I get is a boot loop.
Can anyone assist?
It shouldn't matter which O2 rom you use. Only you're going to know exactly what firmware was on your phone when you bought it, but again, that's not important.
Frankly, if it were me, I'd get the latest stock firmware available for phone model/country/carrier with the PC version of Checkfus (search for it on here/Google) & do it that way. Just my 3 shekels worth.
But before you go down that path, have you tried a factory reset ? If you have & it didn't fix the bootloop, then the Checkfus route is worth considering. You get one file which you flash in PDA section of Odin & done.
Thanks for that. I tried the software and downloaded the exact rom to use for my country and network. I flashed it in Odin but again, it sticks at the boot logo. Not so much of a boot loop but just stays on the animated S logo.
O2 UK simple KDD was the first one posted in the branded provider roms thread .
But why not use your original saved firmware ??? or at least search for that one as non but you knows for sure what it was .
Clean Slate for those that balls up the firmware .Or need to return to service or decide if its hardware/firmware problem .
Backup data first if phone is working .
Boot CWM recovery
Mounts and Storage
Format cache data system sd card .
Remove battery
Boot to download mode
Open Odin
Install correct stock firmware .
Still problems use usb jig to set rom counter to zero .
Return to service centre .
jje
I'm stunned.
All these roms I tried and the whole issue was not wiping cache etc. Now I've done it, seems to be working. Finger crossed. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
Nothing is wrong with your rom, what you do now is put it in download mode, flash cf-root, go into cwm, wipe factory, cache, and dalvik cache, then turn on device leave it for at least 12 mins (sometimes it just boot loops for awhile and works, it happened to me before, after it happens once it wont happen ever again), for more info read my signature, cf-root is labeled chainfire
Hey guys!
So once again I find my self asking for help.
So my phone decided to forget it's IMEI so I started following THIS guide.
The guide asked me to return to stock to somehow get the IMEI back.... so I followed THIS guide.
The problem is that after I flashed the phone I got stuck in the "Samsung Galaxy SII I9100" screen (where one gets the yellow triangle)
SO I thought to myself , meh it's a boot loop....so I followed some steps that had previously saved me.
But ever since the first flash I've not been able to access ANY sort of recovery, be it CWM or the normal android one.
I have access to download mode but that's it really....
Please help!
If you've got no recovery & the only option you've got is download mode, flash a stock rom. Then do a factory reset if you need to/assuming you get recovery back.
Then you can restore a backup/re-root your phone/flash whatever kernel or rom you want.

Thank you for your quick reply.
Here's the thing. I got the stock rom from here and it's the first thing I flashed as a kernel yet it got stuck in the first screen.
I doubt i made a mistake here (because I checked with my phone´s "about" ) but Maybe I got the wrong version? (would it stop working if so?) .
Get one for your country/carrier from Samfirmware & try that (Be careful if it's 4.0.4 & don't do a wipe until after you've flashed a 'safe' kernel).
Success! I got recovery mode.....
(used Cf Root)
Now how do I go to stock?
If you've got CWM, try flashing whatever kernel you were using before you started having problems (You haven't been using Rom Manager by chance, have you ?). If you still don't have any joy, try flashing whatever rom you were using in CWM.
If we're talking stock recovery but the phone still won't boot normally, still flash a stock rom in Odin.
Nope, no ROM manager.... I had what seemed like a stock ROM , just with a different baseband to work in the UK (it's a mexican phone).
Anyways i'm back to square one..... I tried flashing the stock kernel that I looked for in Samfirmware (the mexican, just in case...) and it's still stuck in boot loop... and again I have no access to recovery...... tried flashing CF to no avail....
argh <.<
You need to try flashing the entire stock rom in that case.

So it will be the same? or is there a different place to get the ENTIRE stock rom?
I got the one you mentioned from sammobile... will this include the phone / csc/ things?
by the way..... will it get out of the boot loop?
thanks for your patience...
Go to Samfirmware & search for an entire stock rom (which will have kernel, modem & CSC) for your country if there's an unbranded one, or get one specific to your carrier if there isn't unbranded.
Will it get you out of bootloop ? You'd think so, but without knowing exactly what caused your phone to throw a wobbly in the first place, it's hard to say definitively. But at the moment, you don't really have any other option given your phone won't boot normally & all you have is DL mode.
Edit - I've checked Samfirmware, there's 3 for Telcel; 2.3.6, 4.0.3 & 4.1.2. You can probably skip the GB one & choose either of the other two
And you're welcome

Ok, finally finished the download.
I'm soon to flash and I have a dumb question....
should I unpackage the file or flash it to the kernel as is? (its a.zip)
if I extract it it contains the .tar.md5 and SS_Dl.dll
Extract the tar.md5, flash it in the PDA section of Odin. Delete the .dll

Just before I break anything.... since this wasn't working just yet (and your explanation explains alot haha)
I got CWM again and I restored my previous mod /build whatever its called......
So I have a working device again. The question then is...... (and completely changing subject) IS there a way to resolve the no IMEI problem from this point?
I dail +#06# and get a blank imei thing.......
Any suggestions?
Forget the code. Check your IMEI in settings/about phone. If it's not 0049-----, then you're fine. If it is & you don't have an EFS backup, there are a bunch of threads on here which claim to be able recover your IMEI; you need to read them (No idea whether these methods work as I've never had to use them & never will because I make EFS backups). Either that or service centre who can fix the IMEI.
Edit -Also, I'm, rather confused. You claim you have nothing but download mode, yet all of a sudden have CWM working ? Sounds like you've left a lot of details/a lot of what you've been doing out. Bit of a waste of my time answering your posts in the end really.

Lol I guess im screwed haha:
IMEI: Unknown
IMEI SV: unknown
Baseband Version Unknown:
--- Atleast I have the build numbers and kernel version info haha
Thank you for your help and patience! I'll see what I find!
Hey, messed up my phone and could really use some help:
I own a Galaxy Note (GT-N7000). Suddenly the IMEI went null/null and baseband unknown. Tried many things to recover from this but nothing seemed to work. I left the phone with the latest stock rom (Jellybean 4.1.2)
I then installed EFS Professional (rooting the phone first and installing BusyBox) and could connect to the phone with EFS Pro. I tried doing baseband and IEMI repair, and though the log showed it had successfully restores from .bak files in /efs partition, IMEI and baseband were still null.
So then I totally screwed it, hitting the "format EFS partition" by mistake (it was 3am by then) and didn't make a backup first. The phone wouldn't boot, so I flashed the latest stock rom again and now it continually loops when showing the Samsung logo when I turn it on. I can turn it on in download mode and recovery mode. When on recovery mode, it says /efs partition not found so I guess that makes sense.
The question here would be: is there any way I can fix it without sending it to service? Some options that sound possible:
- Flash the phone with some other custom ROM that would repartition the whole phone, thus creating an /efs partition again
- Use some nice software to recover the /efs partition
I'm sure that if a service can fix it, there should be a way I could do it as well.
I know my IMEI number (it's in the sticker on the back of the phone) so there should be a way to restore it into de efs partition, right?
Thank you all and forgive me if I've made some noob comment on this post...just doing my best

something like a stock odin flash would fix it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2261598 as long as it flashes a pit file
then once that works, see if efs pro will let you manually set the imei.
if not, then make sure you are stock, and make sure you use triangle away or something and then send it in.

I'm from Argentina, this phone is from Movistar carrier. Right now I have the latest stock rom from Movistar flashed, but the rom available does not have any PIT file, so I can't get my efs partition restored and the phone does not boot in normal mode (only download and recovery mode).
As far as I can remember, any phone that works with AT&T in the US works just fine in Argentina with Movistar. I've brought some iPhones from AT&T (not unlocked) and they worked without a problem.
I believe that I have the international version, but what could happen if I flashed the AT&T stock rom?
Thanks!

It's either going to fail at trying to install the modem and do nothing, or it'll make it worse. In no way is it going to help anything.
You should be able to find your firmware here:
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/
Thanks. I had already downloaded the Movistar stock rom from Sammobile and this time I tried flashing it (using Odin) together with the PIT file and though it said something in the result log about using pit file for mapping, result was the same...still stuck with a bad efs partition that makes the booting loop again and again...
Any thoughts? How can I fix my efs partition? Any help is much appreciated.
Not sure there would be much more to do on your own without the official backup without special tools like SPT, Octopus Box, SRS, etc, but those cost more than the phone, so would have to find a shop that has the equipment and is also competent at using them. Many of the major software tools have repos with files like you need and the correct way to load them. I'd love to have one for my shop, but requests to fix stuff like this don't come often enough to justify the expense when there are more pressing matters...
On another forum they were saying that you can use the efs backup from another clean phone because it does not actually contain the IMEI, so if you could find one of those... I tried to download a couple for you yesterday to test but they either failed to open correctly or didn't pass the md5 validity check in Odin, which is why I didn't repost.
I didnt mean flash the rom I linked. That was an example. sorry guys.

I'm still working on restoring the /efs partition, even with a null IMEI, at least to be able to use the phone with wi-fi for other purposes (if I can't find someone to flash a good efs.img and restore the IMEI completely).
Right now it's still a brick. Will post update soon.

http://imadn2008.blogspot.com/2013/01/fix-boot-loop-for-samsung-galaxy-note.html
Hi guys, I've been trying to fix my phone for 2 days in a row without any luck, even though I've been searching/reading/doing stuff.
First thing first, about my phone, I installed CM for 1 hour a few months ago and then I downloaded a firmware from sammobile and installed it. It was for the Greek version (I think Vodafone one), even though I think my previous firmware was from France (I remember that the first time I opened the browser it went to samsung france). Anyway after an update my boot screen changed, an swisscom logo been added with a "la la la" p) sound. Two days ago my phone shutdown, I opened it and it didn't ask me for a pin nor did I have any signal. Rebooted a few times without any luck. Searched the web, I saw that my IMEI was null, so I flashed again a 4.3 French firmware. I can't backup my efs via EFS Professional (exitcode : 127, sh: tar: not found). I tried azira patch but It got stuck in downloading patch. I can't do anything else. My sim is working fine, since I tried it in another phone, my phone doesn't work under any sim.
Update1 : I've just booted in download mode and my binary counter is at 3 from 1 and it says CUSTOM rom, why?
Any help?
Sorry for my bad English.
Thanks in advance. George.
Binary counter tells the flashes of custom-roms, there's no reset by flashing firmware.
Find out the firmware, your phone was shipped with, get its newest build from sammobile.com and flash it with Odin. If your IMEI isn't restored then, give it to repair-center.

Sounds like you flashed random firmwares and then had partition or emmc failure.
You can't fix it without an efs backup to restore. Flash the latest stock firmware for your country, not one picked at random, then try factory reset and take it to a repair centre.

Thing is it happened now, after so many months and not instant. Why is that? If I can't solve it in a few days I will take it to the repair centre.
Partition failure can happen at any time, sometimes it can be fixed and other times the emmc is dead.

Just stumbled about that while I was searching about another problem. So I am not sure if it helps, but I got the impression that it is supposed to re-create an IMEI from scratch:

Nope, it didn't. Thanks for your reply though. I've decided to take it at a repair centre first thing Wednesday morning.
Hi everybody,
hoping someone can help me as I am really frustrated now and have tried everything I can think of...
first a bit of info, I have an S6 edge, G925F and I was using a custom rom with no issues for a couple of months until all of a sudden I was having the same issue as others where I was getting "not registered on network" from damaged or corrupted /EFS, my imei had changed to 350000000000006 but I still had baseband version etc visible, just imei lost.
I have read on many threads that the answer is to change back to stock rom but no matter what rom i flash from sam mobile, it will not boot, when I go into recovery after booting it says "DM-Verity failed have to check DRK first", no matter what Rom I try but if I flash the odin flashable UNI Kernel after that then it will boot but then I have a rooted stock rom so not actually stock and an unstock kernel and still the not registered on network issue with same imei (350000000000006) .
so far I have tried flashing;
G925FXXS3COK5_G925FOXA3COK5_G925FXXS3COK5_HOME.tar.md5
G925FXXU3COI9_G925FBTU3COJ1_G925FXXU3COI9_HOME.tar.md5
and another one same as above but with XEU sales code as well as trying the EE (EVR) branded one with associated pit file and I've flashed every other pit file with each one as a last resort, to no avail...
nothing boots without flashing separate, non stock kernel, defeating the purpose of trying to return to stock.
p.S. Smart Switch doesn't work either as both it and kies say "SM-G925F does not support initialising, please contact support service"....
what can I do??
I've had 3 samsung phones now, s3, s4 and now s6, all rooted and have flashed countless roms on them and never had this issue and I also have no EFS back up as I have never selected it to back up in TWRP as I didn't know I should have and like I said, haven't had this problem before (kicking myself for not backing it up now...)
any help would be mucho appreciated as I am gutted to have broke my new phone and I am at my wits end with trying to fix it.... I thought I was quite good with tech and have done countless mods and rom flashes to various phones and solved many problems Ive encountered along the way but this is stumping me and I really need help..
Thanks in advance for your time and regards,
Elijah

I just managed to flash stock firmware on a SM-G925F (= model name in upper case) with Kies3.
It puts the phone on stock state (i.e. bootloader, efs partition, recovery, ... etc.)
but you have to be able to boot in Android in order to retrieve serial number in settings => about => state

What happens when you just flash the stock FW, boot into recovery and make a factory reset from there? Cannot mount /EFS error???
AFAIK this IMEI is displayed when the EFS partition has been corrupted...
Some reported issues with param.bin (part of the BL file) in combination with EFS... and solved it by flashing the BL (which contains the param.bin) and the modem.bin
Try to flash a 4 part original FW, boot into recovery and make a factory reset...
Anyway if the EFS has lost data and you have not made a backup, you cannot fix / get back your original IMEI again.....
