Well I've just noticed the right side of my tablet has a creak to it. Seems a little loose and am not sure what to do. Am I correct in assuming that the creaking will just get worse in time and potentially come apart completely? Anyone else experiencing this?
Not sure what to do. I've got until Jan. 24th to return it to Best Buy but other than this issue, I love this thing and don't want to get rid of it since the chances of getting a replacement are extremely slim.
I have seen several people comment about the right side seems loose. The bottom right area in the black trim area has a little noise and creak in it when tapped or pressed on mine. My middle left screen area has a little clunk in it when tapped like the glass has a slight gap between in and the screen behind.
I have considered returning mine also because of this but if it is normal, I don't want to since I may get one that is worse. Everything else works fine with mine.
Mine Loose Too
Just got my gray prime 64 yesterday and I did notice the right side of the screen seems loose and protrudes up further than the rest of the display. It almost seems like there might be something too bulky below it preventing it from laying flat.
I have it to, but to the right of the charger slot. It seems like a common issue. You have months worth of repair warranty so if it gets worse you can always send it to ASUS and they'll likely repair it.

Yeah - seems like they all have this defect.
Mine is on the upper left were the volume rocker is. Gets a little annoying.

Is it really all of them? I've been keeping a list of things to look out for once Amazon finally ships my Prime and I didn't think this is an unavoidable issue (as with GPS). Correct me if I'm wrong, please.
same
I am experiencing the same creaking on the right bezel, about 3/4 of the way up. It was not creaking right out of the box, it started after about 5 days of heavy usage. I am not too worried about it at the moment.
( note: this is my first complaint about my tfp, I love my prime.)
I have slight creaking near the volume rocker. its my only gripe with my device. I rarely if ever hear it, but I know its there and it bugs me.

Does this come with the typical, one year warrenty? How do you even get in contact with them for a repair? This is only getting worse I've noticed and I also have 8 dead pixels. I really want a brand new one but doesn't look like any of my Best Buy's around me are going to get them anytime soon. How do I go about getting them to fix it?
Must be more an issue with the 64s. My two 32 models didn't have this issue.
I've tried out 3 Primes (Champagne 32GB, 2X Gray 32GB), and none have had this issue.

I wish mine wasn't as bad as it is. It's to the point where I won't even hold it with my right hand because I'm afraid it'll break it.
Yes - mine creaks too in a few spots.
But it is not that bad....
Mine is on the top left. Feels like the front panel is loose. I emailed asus about it yesterday hopefully they respond soon.

Not getting this on my Prime, FWIW.
So far I have returned 2 primes because of bad screen bleeding and every time it is getting worse. MUCH WORSE.
Just gut my 3rd 10 mins ago and this is what I get.

No offense but you're a liability to Asus. You should buy an ipad instead.

Welcome to the club. I returned 3. I don't care so much about screen bleed though, especially on the boot screen where it is most noticeable. I had stuck pixels and other weird issues.
I had two Primes with screen defects. I returned both and finally gave up on the TF201. I like the tablet overall; but lets get honest - someone over there in Taiwan is sleeping on the job when it comes to quality control. They need to be fired. It's absolutely unacceptable in this day and age for the same people to receive multiple defective units. Any my screen defects were not minor - they were pretty glaring.
Screen bleed is not even noticeable in everdsy use or during regular functions. it's only during bootup. if its minor, then that's normal. if its major bleeding, then exchange once again.
1st return due to dead pixels
2nd returning tomorrow due to 3 light bleeds
hope the 3rd one will be the one

all my apps have a bowl or dark background. And i mainly use it at night. So it is considered regular use for me. But this light bleeding is so bad you can see is in bright light on low brightness. I should if kept my first one. At least I could sort of tolerate it
Sent from my ADR6300 using xda premium
Same here:
1 returned for lots of stuck pixels and backlight bleed
2 even more stuck pixels, less bleed
3 almost no stuck pixels (still some though) but the worse in backlight bleed and had a creaking screen
Tomorrow I will get my 4th unit, but I don't get my hopes to high up
* I know IPS screens cannot be without some light bleeding completely, but my specimens all had these nasty large "bulbs" which can even been seen on lighter backgrounds.
Returned my second prime today. Light bleed and off center screen. Bestbuy had one other there.but it was onhold!! Grr.. Want my tablet back.

No wonder people are struggling to get a TP, all you guys are returning them for minor issues.....don't like screen bleed? Turn the light on when using it..there problem solved.
Asus would've done fine with sales if people weren't so anal about minor things like screen bleed or not being able to use GPS in their concrete and lead lined houses. Well done you guys
they should have made a white bootup screen. Then no one would have noticed it...
I dont have my prime yet but i guess its the same as with my phone? For the bootup screen brightness is set to 100%?

Looking at your pic, i really didnt notice much diffference from my boot up either..
Some people are incredibly fussy, and ruin it for everyone else.
youre going to get the most perfect non-bleeding TF201 soon, then drop it on the pavement...
Then start complaining about the quality of build...

Yes it looks like the boot screen is set to 100%. Mine looks very poor too. Once passed the boot screen no complaints
I've had screen bleed on two Primes that was noticeable on ANY dark background and detracted from the enjoyment of using the device. I also had one where the light bleed was not noticeable on any (normal) screen, and I would have kept that one had it not had other problems (non-functional haptic feedback, a rattle near one of the dock connectors that got worse over time).
My wife's Galaxy Tab 10.1 has zero light bleed. My original Transformer had tons of light bleed that was only visible when booting; I never noticed it otherwise during 8 months of use.
Light bleed is something that I think it highly subjective as to whether or not it's a problem. Nobody can say one way or another whether it's a problem for a given person and/or with a given device. Returning a device because it has an issue like this, therefore, is entirely appropriate and it's ridiculous to assert otherwise. Keeping a device with light bleed can also be entirely appropriate.
People have different standards for their devices. And nobody should feel like returning a device somehow deprives another consumer. It's up to the company to make enough of something, not for every potential purchaser to bite the bullet so some stranger can move up in the line.
If you are looking for perfection in something, I think you'll be highly disappointed.
Mine has some bleed but I don't even notice it once ICS is up and running.
I completely disagree. If you spend your hard earned money on something it should be free from defects. I havent complained about the gps at all. I personally do not care. The people that do care however I leave alone because gps is stated on the box. It doesnt say sometimes working gps it says gps. As for screen bleed and dead pixels....are you kidding me?? Do I agree with the hundreds of threads on the issues? No. But I do believe your product should work as advertised. Guess what, Asus isnt doing charity work here. Ever heard of cost of doing business? I run a 3 million dollar a year high end tile and stone store and i replace material for what sometimes seems like nothing to me but then I remeber..oh yeah these people that are spending 4-6k on their bathrooms are WRITING my paycheck....If something has a minor chip or scratch..guess what? Its replaced. No questions asked. This is the reason my company has gone from 24 stores to 62 store in the last 5 years. Im not talking 800sf gamestops either.. im talking 25000sf 3+ million to open showrooms. So if you are a manufacture like us sometimes you need to SUCK IT UP and do the right thing. No matter how insignificant it may seem to you these people work hard for their money just like I do. If Asus was non profit maybe I would feel different but they arent. They are in it to win it and are competing with the big boys in town and need to get their act together!!!!

Good for posting this, it will let others know just how bad it really is.
My first prime from Gamestop has screen bleed and horrible performance, i sold it and got another from Office Depot which so far has been perfect (besides the gps, wifi and bluetooth defects we all have).
I was going to try and sell my second prime and be done with Asus all together but nobody around here will buy it lol, so I decided to just hang on to it.
A device like this should come with no defects, and you shouldn't be expected to lay down and just take it in the rear.
so, im on my second amaze (first one had a dead pixel) and i need to take this one back now too because i have these 3 bright spots under the cap keys where light is leaking thru that is pretty bad and that i never noticed on their display model or the first one i owned.
since ive only been with tmo about 2-3 weeks, im not really sure how often i can return a phone for being defective (still within remorse period). do they flag your account for too many returns? is there a limit to the amount of phones they will exchange? should i try and return this phone to a different store?
i feel like for the money i paid for this phone it should be flawless and at the same time its both a burden on me and tmo that i keep having to return this phone. thoughts? experiences? thanks
the three bright spot are on all models, its a known issue with the phone, they may take it back, but you will get an other one with the same issues.

i dont think it matters how many you physically return but if your requesting them from insurance they do because a lot of people scam insurance and just sell their devices.
Although, the capacitive lights at the bottom do leak, a lot. this is a well known issue and its highly likely that the next Amaze you get will have the same issue. If I were you, I'd at least root, and download adjbrightness from the market and just turn em off. It saved me some battery and got rid of all the light leakage hope I helped bro
if it is a deal breaker for ya, just get the GSII, its a good one too

had one of those too and had a bunch of ghost lines and blobs, plus the low resolution didnt really appeal to me on such a big screen
You can exchange it as many times as you want. Hell, I exchanged mine 4 times in one week! The issue I keep having is I have blue lines in my LCD. I am on my 6th replacement.

Light bleed is a known issue. There is a modification you can make to almost completely fix. I say it doesn't affect normal usage so I left it alone. Strongly recommend you stick with amaze. It's a great device.

I never noticed these on my phone until last night when I was watching a show on my phone. Kind of annoying, and I'm hoping they don't get worse. I don't know how they would, but I've had the phone for two months and never noticed it till now.
For sure exchange though, I doubt they flag your account for having phone hardware issues. I only had 4 mytouch4gs in a year, but I was annoyed enough to get a free amaze out of it. They're good with exchanges. Wish they didn't have to be and the phones worked, but oh well.

It really sucks having blue lines in the LCD. Since I am not far from Chicago, the cold weather here I believe is triggering the issue. I am going to keep exchanging until HTC gets it right and T-Mobile sends me a good phone lol.
Exchange it man! Don't be shy. You deserve what you pay for and tmo needs to be held responsible for providing that. Guarantees are only useful if you use them! If they overcharged you for some service would you just pay it because you don't want to burden them? I do agree it can be a pain to bring it in, I would go so far as to request a discount on your service. Never forget, they are there to serve you!
P.S. I also never lock myself into contracts, just so I have the option to quit. You would be amazed how much better service you get from the "customer retention center."

Under the cap buttons? Really? I guess I will have to see the picture when u post it. The known light bleed issue is 3 white spots above the cap buttons... More so in between each cap button... But on the screen. It's noticeable when the screen has a black background. If that's not what you're talking about, then u may have a faulty device

I don't have any blue lines or dead pixels on my Amaze, but so have the very common light bleed onto a dark screen, which was annoying.
I downloaded an app called screen filter off the market and it shuts the lights off on the soft keys. It was god sent! Didn't have to root my device either.
Not sure what you are talking about. Honestly don't want to as it may bother me if I see it on mine because of your picture, lol!

ok guys, just got back exchanging my 2nd device at a different store and wait for it...wait for it...this thing is flawless (so far)!!!! very, very minimal light bleed and absolutely zero light coming from in between the cap buttons...
the store i bought the first 2 units from admitted to me that they sold very few amazes so i figured i must have been getting old stock. well it turns out, the other store i went to today had gotten burglarized a few weeks ago and had all completely new inventory. looks like the newer units have maybe addressed our concerns? not sure, but at this point im very happy!!
now that i got a good unit, you guys are stuck with me here for awhile! LOL
That's cool man. Glad to hear you got a good Amaze.
It was funny after reading this thread, I kept looking for those spots you were talking about, which I do get, but bleeds into the screen and that app took care of that problem. But having it outside in the sun, I noticed those blue lines. It is faint, but there. Looks like a grid. I assume these are on all of the devices? I can't see it much unless outside and the sun beating on it at a certain angle.
Kind of how my Kindle Fire is as well.

On the seperate one tick whether or not you have it. Personally I can spot mine in normal usage at some auto brightness levels. I know that a lot of this will fall under personal opinion, but I would like to hear what people think.
This thread is pretty pointless. The severity is going to be everyone's opinion. There is no set way to measure it without comparing all the devices. And taking pictures of the device is a bad way to measure it because light bleed is amplified horrendously on a camera. Personally, I don't think the light bleed on my N10 is bad at ALL, possibly because I'm somewhat used to it due to my monitor having it.

Perhaps, but I would like to see how bad people think their light bleed is. Personally I have compared it to several other of my devices (galaxy tab 2 7.0, ipad 2, galaxy player 5.0) and none of them have it this bad.
If I stare at the bottom right corner, on a completely black screen, with max brightness, I can notice slight bleed. Looking at the same corner under any other conditions and I can't make out any bleed lol.

Idk, this makes we want to send mine back and try for another, but I don't want to do that and get a worse one back. If it's going to be a concern in the long run, I might suggest just returning it.
Currently, I have a multi-touch issue with my screen that doesn't seem to like when I use more then 3 fingers at random times. Although the chances of me using more then 3 fingers is... extremely rare; it does sort of bother me a bit lol. But then again, aside from that, and the very minor bleed I have, everything else seems fine... hmm

Ha ha, almost seems like a best of the worst sort of thing. If it doesn't have one issue it has another. Also the cable they sent me doesn't charge the tablet, I have to use the one that came with my sgs3.
Good to see that the majority has none. Just ordered a new unit. We shall see how this turns out.
My option is not there. Only visible on the start up screen and only when the auto brightness adjusts. They could probably just fix mine by disabling auto brightness on boot up and there would be no way I can see it. Lol
For the people that said they don't have any:
When did you order and is this your first unit?
I'm not sure if mine really counts as light bleed. Since playing with it for a couple of hours I've only noticed two small spots on the very bottom about the width of my small finger. I need to have brightness set to about 60% and a completely dark background to really see it. During normal use with auto brightness on I don't notice it. Is it really possible to get zero light spots in all conditions with these screens?

Well I called for an RMA. Before the csr put it through, I got assurance that should the replacement have worse problems that I could RMA the replacement and keep the original. My problem is a little annoying but I have no desire to go through 6 or more replacements to find that perfect device. Other than the dim strip this thing is flawless so I'd rather not risk warped backs, reboots, or a worse panel. Here's to hoping the one replacement is defect free.

Before returning your Nexus 10...
Call Google and speak to TECH SUPPORT AND NOT CUSTOMER SUPPORT!
I complained about light bleed in my first one, and later came to find out that the idiot in CS put down that I was returning it due to remorse, which means I'd have to pay the restocking fee. Tech will put your return reason as defective or DOA so you don't get charged the fee.
No light bleed on mine. I was surprised since my last two Android tablets (transformer and toshiba excite 10) both had some light bleed noticeable on the black boot screen.
Hi,

How is the replacement? Should your return the product for exchange or google you refer another product? and then send the product deffect .

Worth bearing in mind that the numbers are skewed somewhat toward people who are concerned about this topic, with a good chance that they have a light bleed problem -- these are generally the folks who will open this thread and vote in the poll. If you could be confident that all XDA readers in the N10 forum would vote, the percentage would be scarier. Not sure how meaningful the stats will really be that are collected in this thread.
So I'm asking this because I'm planning on returning my nexus 9 tomorrow and getting a replacement, because I have the following
Light bleed
Terrible battery life ( Max of 5 hours SOC )
crappy buttons on the side
The back creaks slightly
Is it worth returning or do you think I'll get the same issues again or maybe worse?

Definitely not worth returning. All you do by returning, is make the next version more expensive for the rest of us by costing HTC and Google for your pointless warranty claim.
I did return it and got a decent unit

LOL, characteristic of LCD. Get used to it -- they ALL do it. If you don't like it, your ONLY option is LED.
Turn down the brightness. Its a big screen, the brighter its set, the less the life. And 5 hours screen on is HUGE.
I quite like the buttons on these things, bit harder to press so you have to really mean it. Nexus 7 is a problem because it is too easy to accidentally bump the buttons.
So quit twisting it.

Are you ****ing kidding me here? Ya let's let ALL these issues go, so the NEXT tablet that comes out is an even bigger piece of **** with more problems because people like you let them get away with it.
Let me ask you this, should we accept ALL light bleed as OK no matter how bad, or is there a cutoff at some point where its no longer acceptable? Right off the bat I'll tell you youre wrong because they don't ALL do it. I just returned a nexus 9 that had next to 0 light bleed. I've never, not once in my life exchanged a device for any reason. Never. But im on my 4th nexus 9, 2 of which had almost no light bleed at all. My last ones screen flickered so bad and the speakers froze and cut in and out so much I couldn't deal with it anymore, which was number 2 nexus 9. Open the new one tonight in the parking lot and boot it. Horrendous lightbleed and volume buttons that were literally ****ing recessed into the frame. I don't know about you, but I'm not a god damn woman so I don't have fingernails to reach a recessed button, and I for damn sure ain't carrying around a ****ing paperclip to adjust the volume on a tablet. So I exchange it. Get nexus 9 #4. Buttons stick out of frame perfectly. Completely different from the one i just had in my hands. But that's not a quality control issue to you. I should have kept the one that had unpressable volume buttons so you won't have to pay more for your next tablet. Too ****ing bad buddy. I'll return EVERY single piece of **** I get, and GLADY pay more for the next version if I don't need a paper clip to adjust the volume, Dramamine for the constant screen flicker, and a speaker that actually plays sound.
Yes or no is this acceptable light bleed?
And if I sounded pissy in that post, its because on nexus #4 I just noticed the entire upper left hand side of my screen is completely ****ing yellow/brown, it looks like absolute ****. So even this one has bad light bleed when the screen is dark, and when the screen is light, 1/4 of it is piss yellow. This tablet came from the store today, so much for issues being fixed.

I've got the same thing. Plus, the microphone seems to have issues (sensitivity is so low, that it won't hear any "okay google" unless i really scream at it, for instance)! I would return it, but i am too afraid i might get an even worse unit.
Turns out HTC and Google really messed everything up with this one. I guess i was lucky to end up with a yellow-tinted Nexus 9 because, according to all people's reports, that might just be the best hardware version of it! With that in mind, I've never been so unsatisfied about a purchase before. I've always accepted some minor issues as i don't believe there are perfect devices, but i've never heard about so many different and major issues, especially for a tablet of this price. Not even to mention about the software issues, so far. This is just rediculous!
Huh ...
My new Sand model arrived with no issues out of the box ... excellent build quality, no issues with colors in the screen, and no bleeding backlight.
Where are y'all buying these things with all these issues?
I ordered mine directly off the play store.
I bought mine from Expansys (Europe). It's a pretty late batch (HTC4CC, which I think means December) therefore no back bending, no deep volume buttons and normal lightbleed for an LCD. But the fact that there are still issues and the quality of such an expensive tablet is questionable enough to make you stick with a yellowish screen, is really depressing. Anyway, I am really glad yours is perfect and I hope next batches manage to be as good as this tablet should be, but that doesn't change the fact that HTC and Google really dropped the ball on this one.

Your image is designed to exaggerate a non-problem into a problem.
Dark ambient = long exposure.
Also your picture isn't taken straight on. Its at an angle with the "bad" corner closest to the camera.

OK, so you're telling ME, the one who had the tablet in front of my face it didn't have light bleed and I purposefully 'designed' this picture to exaggerate a problem? Here's the bottom line and I could not give 2 flying ****s what you think I did or didn't do. My tablet had horrible HORRIBLE light bleed. How it looks in that picture is pretty damn close to how it looked in person while in a dark room. Period, end of story. You can check my post history going back to 2010 and see how many times I've complained about devices or *****ed about light bleed. Good luck finding any.
Im a member here to gain knowledge and help people when i can. I have enough devices to damn near fill a small bathtub, and theyre all the the same ones i bought day one never exchanged. In case you werent aware, most of us here are not ****ing retards and know lcds will have a SMALL amount of light bleed.. This is not a small amount, its an unacceptable amount. If You think I'm suddenly trying make **** up or make unwarranted complaints about a screen for no reason, you're flat out wrong.
For someone with the name doitright, you for damn sure aren't holding HTC to that standard.
So if take a picture of all my older tablets next to the nexus 9, they should all basically look the same then correct? By your logic they should all look similiar(according to you, this is a normal, acceptable amount that should be exhibited by all of my older tablets- including 2 nexus 7's) and the nexus 9 should look no worse than the rest correct? 100$ says they don't. Willing to put your money where your mouth is?

No, what I'm saying is that you are too picky and expecting something unreasonable from your hardware, which is working perfectly well. People like you who repeatedly send your hardware back under warranty for imaginary "problems" that are perfectly within the design specifications of the device **AND NOT EVEN CORRECTED** by the warranty replacement, cause the price of hardware to increase for the rest of us, because the cost of that warranty replacement is distributed to EVERYONE who buys that hardware.
I suggest that you return it and buy yourself a ROCK AND A CHISEL. At least if you complain about that, it won't increase the price for the rest of us.

Are you a ****ing moron? Let's try reading shall we?
1) I just said in the post you quoted I've NEVER in my life exchanged or returned any devices out of literally dozens. Obviously besides the nexus 9, but since you don't seem to fully read my previous comments in this thread I feel I need to point this out.
2) I haven't warrantied ONE nexus 9. I bought mine from best buy after launch and had until Jan 15 to exchange. So I did. If you actually READ my posts you'll see each one was returned for multiple issues, light bleed being at the back of my list of issues that concern me.
Would you keep a device that had speakers that didn't work? Yes or no? Would you keep a device that had volume buttons LITERALLY recessed inside the frame, making them completely unable to be pressed? Yes or no? Light bleed just happened to be another issue to top these major defects off.
So, since all these problems HAVE been noted in this thread, in fact I'm pretty sure they were in posts you quoted me on, you're telling me non-working speakers and unpressable buttons are both imaginary and within design specs?
Throw horrendous light bleed on top for icing on the cake.
