What do YOU think?

Hang on..
Nexus S is just another version of the original galaxy
Absolutely, its miles ahead as far as the advancements are concerned.
1Ghz vs 1.2Ghz Dual Core Cortex A9's on the S II
512MB Ram vs 1GB Ram on the S II
4 in SAMOLED vs 4.3 in SAMOLED +
patience, my friend...
Galaxy S 2 is worth waiting for.
I wouldnt mind waiting if I had the money, but I feel like I need to stop switching phones so much, I may go with NS for a year or 2, It has all I need after after all, I dont root or rom so in all honesty I think all that 1gb ram, dual core stuff I wont need, all I do is play music web browse, use phone and use some apps, thats it...I dont see the need to wait and spend even more for things that I dont need, I really need to stop getting phone after phone because some new specs come out, NS has all I need, hopefully it will be like that for a couple years until I really need a new phone rather then want, I know the techies want the latest and greatest but to the average user, they dont care as long as it has the things you need rather then ram, processer etc, I need to start thinking like that rather then drooling over every new phone, its a waste of money.
Just my opinion, hopefully NS can last me.

I also am not prone to change phones often. My current phone is an HTC Touch Dual I've had for like 4 years.BUT I like to buy the best when I do; which right now happens to be the Galaxy SII. That's why I've preordered already.
In that case, it is better to somewhat future proof your investment by buying the current technology and utilizing it to the fullest.
SGSII will be better for you in the long run.
Samsung Galaxy S2, no doubt about it, lol.
Yea but how much lol? I can get the NS for $560, whats the GSII gonna be? $700?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
We can't tell you for sure until it's announced in each region, but it's definitely worth the wait to find out. You're talking about buying a last gen phone vs a cutting edge phone basically. Do you want to spend $500 and have an already outdated phone, or maybe roughly the same, maybe a little more for a top of the line phone? The Nexus S is a great phone for sure, but this is a fast paced industry and with the dual core CPUs and the new SAMOLED+ screen, I think it's worth the wait and maybe a little more money.
Its a no brainer for me.
SII of course.
Perhaps waiting for a few weeks will give you some clear cut details on the launch and costing.
SGS II without a doubt. The Nexus S is a great phone, but doesn't hold a candle to the SGS II.

That is where the phone being not boot-locked and XDA developers come in...and personaly for me this will be the deciding factor as I know how slow both my carrier (A$&$) and Samsung about releasing software updates.rolleyes:
Samsung have been improving with frequence of updates however...at least for some phones...
Nexus S is a cool phone but I could never understand why they castrated some parts off of it.
Updates are nice, yes, but since the phone comes with 2.3, it probably won't be a big deal to me. The wait from 2.1 to 2.2 was horrible because Flash is such a huge addition, but have they said what the killer feature will be past Gingerbread? I doubt it'll be as huge as Flash was.
Went ahead and got the NS, glad I did, I will be happy with it as it is the full google experience, great looking phone, SAmoled, I mean it has everything I need, Im sure the SAmoled+ will be cool but thats the main thing I would want, back when I had the captivate only things I wanted was that ATT would not block apps, a camera flash, and a FFC, now I have it all! What more do I need, perhaps in 1 1/2-2 years I get the Dual Core stuff, but for now Im sure the NS will be perfect for me and my needs.
You have my sincere condolences.

im trying to see if I should wait for the Galaxy S2, GX2, or htc Sensation too.
Sensation and Galaxy S2 both have more Ram the the LG, but the LG is out now...
All 3 use are different duel core processor.
I definitely dont think you should go for the mytouch 4 with the LG out now and others on the way.
trying to decide which of the 3 duel core phones to go for myself.
if you are looking for a phone now, its the LG hands down. If you are willing to wait, then you are in the same boat as me. not sure between the LG, HTC, or Sammy
Ya, the htc is supposed to be out in June or July. But my son's mytouch slide is having issues. So I'm considering upgrading and giving him my phone.

If you can wait ............wait for the S2 the hardware is something to wait for. Over the next 10-15 months all the phones will go through a huge change. All the new phones hardware will have the capacity to run windows 7 (not that they will) but think about it ....the phone I have now has the same power as my windows 2000 computer 7 years ago............ amazing time.........
The vibrant has too much going for it to pay for an upgrade now. Especially in my mind the uncertainty of the AT&T takeover, or as i call it, when we all get screwed.
The g2x is amazing. I want one. But I also know my phone is dang good and only better phones are going to roll out... More GHz and more dual cores.
The next phone with a perfect 4"screen, 1.3+ GHz dual core on a good/cheap network may change my opinion... In the future.
S2 for sure. There is nothing to discuss, and nothing to think about. That is just the way to do it. Period.
S2 has a answered my prayers. I have been waiting for a freakin 4.3 SAMOLED phone to come out. Sammy only had the 4" galaxy S - Vibrant last year with talks of "dual core."
I'm glad that they didn't rush it either- because that would have been a huge liability waiting to happen.
Instead, they listened to our gripes.
1. 32gb memory- on bigger model
2. FFC - badass
3. FLASH!!!!
4. 8mp camera
5. 4.3" Capacitive Touch
6. Super Amoled!!!!!!!!
7. Gorilla glass?
8. External SD support up to 32gb
9. 4g !!!!!
10. GingerBread official.
11. Mod edit: to much info mate...keep it to yourself.
Seriously, it blows anything out of the water that is out there and will be out there in the near future.
Plus, Tmobile is getting is.
I'm going to buy 10 of these just in case zombies attack, then I'll just sit back and relax.
Anyway, /shameless Plug.
you get the picture.
GL with your decision.
A better way to go about this is, do you plan on rooting your new phone and installing custom ROMs? If you you do intend to do that, then i think Samsung has proven they could careless about you or the dev community so long as you buy there product.
We all know HTC shares there source code and there is a herd of diehard HTC fans who will mod the crap out of the Sensation.
I just picked up the G2x yesterday after i seen that LG has already released source code for not only the OS but kernel source code as well, and with cyanogen himself doing the CM7 port to the G2x, it will and should be community supported greatly as well
A thing that sold me on the G2x is that it supports AT&T 3G bands, so if its still my main phone if the merger goes down, it'll be a fully compatible device and i wont need to buy a new one to take advantage of AT&Ts extended coverage
So in the end it really just boils down to:
How long can you wait?
Do you intend to mod your phone?
Galaxy S2 hands down.
It will have a lot of ROMS for it since it has an unlocked Bootloader just like the Vibrant. The HTC Sensation does NOT. It also has lots of memory internal, and a 4.3 Super Amoled PLUS. Everything else you can compare to the HTC Sensation of G2X as all 3 have relatively similar "rest of the phone".
I'm on a g2x lets hope that the galaxy 2 does not have the normal sammy problems like on the vibrant I have a bitter taste for them now

as you can see from the second post in this thread, I too am trying to decide between gx2, gs2, sensation...
i see tons of people saying the samsung gs2 will be the best thing ever. So yes, Sammy does have awesome hardware (look at our vibrants). But, will it be cheap plastic? and who cares how great the hardware is if the Software sucks balls? (like our vibrants). Yes, our developers are awesome, but they are having to run circles around Sammy's terrible software writing...
I am not saying this is the case with the gs2, as im thinking about it too, just wondering these things...?
Thank you guys so much for your responses. It was exactly what I was looking for, different opinions. I needed to get a phone because two of the phones on my plan were injured. My son chose the "sidekick" not a bad phone, but I tried to talk him out of it. But whatever, it was cheaper.(good for me). I chose the G2x. And I gotta say, WOW! And for those wondering, the screen is just as good. Colors even seem a bit deeper. Quadrants (whatever) but 2200 out the box. The 4g is way better than my 3g. You tube on HD without a stutter. Couldnt pull that off before.
1080 vid recording (I was told) not tested yet.
Fast fast fast processor.
FFC (untested yet)
8mp camera with flash.
Feels much more solid and better made than Vibrant.
Stock against stock. Hands down its better. Guess I will have to wait on dev community for customization results. Maybe I will try to figure out how and root it tonight to remove some bloat.
I will miss my Vibrant (but my sis in law will be happy).
Oh! And I heard today the merge with ATT may not happen. Yay!

what i care about is future support
what ive seen is a lot of HTC love
will the S II be loved for a long time ?

but when u look at the Galaxy S it seems just "meh"
should i really care about this ?
or just wait for a HTC duel core

If you don't mind having a rubbish screen its up to you. So far the galaxy s 2 has proved that it is a beast in day to day use, just as much as it is in benchmarks.
Coming from an s1, the community was always pretty good. I mean there was a tone of work done.
I mean the s2 already works well stock, something strange for most android phones.
Who can predict the future? I would hope that there will be good support. I see many devs are excited about this. Visit the development section to get a glimpse of the work being done. I think good for a newly launched phone. But it's your decision afterall.

Played with the skyrocket today and I gotta admit I'm having a bit of envy, mostly over the screen but also over the shape and the slightly faster processor.
Anyone else having that? The device is huge though which put me off quite a bit.
I guess I'm kind of hoping of being talked out of trading in for one. Is there a legitimate reason to choose the skyrocket over the S2? Aside from screen. I know a root and mods can get me a 1.5 gigahertz processor.
Well the 1.2 Ghz exynos processor is actually faster/better than the Snapdragon 1.5 Ghz. The 4.3" screen size imho is better, at least for me and doesn't look as nerdy The LTE is the only thing that would make me switch but it's not too big a deal yet.
I thought they both used an exynos but the skyrocket was clocked to 1.5 and got an 1800 mAh battery to compensate? I also sort of disregard the lte since I live in an area that will likely not get lte for quite a while.
Nope. Skyrocket got the snapdragon cpu just like the tmobile sgs II did.
The sgs II is a better choice for you, AntwanL Why do I say that?
People don't come to xda for no reason. They want to see what they can 'do' to their phone. And here you are at xda. The sgs II will always have more being done to it than the skyrocket.
If you don't care about modifying android on your phone, then go for a skyrocket. It is a samsung with a dual core phone and 1gb of ram. That's nothing to sneeze at.
A .2 inch bump in screen size and lte, that won't be wide spread for awhile, is not enough for me to get a phone that will have less choices that the alternative, this phone.

Also look in the skyrocket forums and specifically the developers section and compare it to the SGS2 developers section. Plus what the others have said above. To me it is more important to have developers who make our phones better due to having a international phone that is the same.
The ONLY two phones for the skyrocket are the T-Mobile phone and I THINK the Canadian version of the skyrocket. So the developer support will never be as big.
To see how this works look at the support on the older generation galaxy s phones (captivate, i9000) and compare it to other phones that did not have international phone in common with it. The i9000 and captivate still have a great support of developers even with it being an older generation of the phone.

The skyrocket is inferior in every single way Hardware wise. At&t also throttles you much faster on LTE than on HSPA+
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
the GS2 is as fast as the skyrocket, despite having a lower clock speed. The reason is the superior GS2 processor. Also, the GPU on the GS2 is superior, so despite similar speed, graphics are much better (and not choppy) on the GS2 than the skyrocket. The skyrocket will never be as hackable as the GS2, and so it will always be difficult or impossible to overclock it much. Despite the GS2 being of similar speed with a 1.2ghz processor, compared to the skyrocket's 1.5ghz processor, I am already overclocking my GS2 to 1.6 ghz and haven't had any stability issues at all. CM7 has the 1.6 ghz overclock feature already baked into the rom, so you don't need to flash a separate custom kernel.
I was going to originally get the skyrocket, but decided to go with the GS2 instead. The processor and GPU superior (and overclocked is much faster than the skyrocket will ever be capable of). Also, the resolution is better and it is very hackable. The only skyrocket advantage is LTE (I went with GS2 despite living in an LTE area and having unlimited data) but this is only a minor advantage. You use the processor all the time, but the data plan only sometimes, and LTE simply means somewhat shorter wait times for downloading.

If you ever think you wished you went with the skyrocket, check out their dev section, or rather lack thereof. Then for icing on the cake look through the q&a section.
I just got done looking though it for a friend who was having the 100% battery problem, and all I can say is wow. Largest collection of new android users that have no idea how to use any android phone.
Not trying to be mean but there's some serious education that needs to go on over there for any large scale progress to be made (cm7 cm9 or miui, much less stock roms). For their sake I hope it happens.

No envy here....Sure the screen is larger and it has LTE. However, I dont live in a area that is likely to see LTE for quite some time and the screen in note a selling point for me only being bigger.
I will wait a year or so to see what the market has at that time. I cant afford to purchase the latest and greatest every few months when a new device with 512mb more memory comes out etc....lol

I just returned my Skyrocket for an original SGS2. I live in an area with LTE (Dallas) and while it was neat, I never felt like it was useful. I just visit webpages and use the navigator and things like that. Even streaming YT videos wasn't much faster....not worth much more than running speed tests and going LOLWTF LOOK AT HOW FAST THIS IS......yeah it's pretty awesome but unless you tether or something, meh. It just never felt any faster than my girlfriend's SGS2.
The battery life was bad (LTE radio + 4.5 inch screen + the slightly faster clocked (but slower overall) CPU overtook the small bump in mAh), reception was bad (I'd have 1-2 bars most of the time for LTE and it would switch back and forth from 4G to LTE all day), and the aftermarket support (physical and developmental) is very lacking of course.
I prefer the SGS2 over the Skyrocket.
Also, I don't forsee CM or MIUI to EVER be on the skyrocket, since it's not an international phone. Very small userbase.

The number of pixels is the same, though the SR's screen is bigger so the resolution is worse. It is not nearly as hackable, because the only similar device is T-Mobile's GS2. The international GS2 is similar to AT&T's GS2 so there will always be much more hacking going on with it than the SR.
Do you guys think this phone will have an outstanding developer support like the SGS2 has? Will Samsung release the bootloader stuff and all the good code from the start like the SGS2?
Samsung has recently built up a good reputation with the development community, it would be foolish for them to mess that up with their new flagship device. I'll be picking one up coming from the Evo 3D which hasn't had much going on for it as far as development so I'm excited to see how things play out.

This is my same boat. I will be purchasing this device, and will be handing my MyTouch 4g Slide or HTC Doubleshot off to a family member... the phone has almost 0% development! I can only dream of a device that I will own with countless options. We don't even have a official CM7.
I miss having the option to flash pure AOSP, MIUI, CM, CM Supers, Always hated sense but it was nice to have the options that I did on other HTC devices I have owned.

From the Samsung Vibrant...
I got burned with my Samsung Vibrant. I'm not sure if it was Samsung or T-Mobile who dropped the ball, but there were no official upgrades past Froyo. Since they never released the source to anything related to GPS, our latest AOSP/MIUI ports have horrible GPS performance and GPS-related wakelock/battery drain problems despite the best efforts of some really talented devs.
I've heard stories about HTC being either better or worse, depending on the day, but I don't have firsthand knowledge, so I'm not making my final S3 vs. OneX decision until there's a good AOSP port.

Why do you think so? The platform will still be very different. I don't see what previous developers could be able to take with them from the S2.

I believe that's a good point - I also think in that point it also brings up the fact that - this is
A) probably the most anticipated phone I've seen in a while.
And
B) its the worlds first major quad core beast
So this will be a huge step from dual core kernel/dev work. Just like developers had to get used to the dual core kernels when they were used to single core devices way back when.
When u bring this up I think it means more development will come for the fact that its a major stepping stone as well as those who use the SGSII right now. Do u think this is valid?

Yes. The processor will be a quite different beast in terms of kernel functionally; if Samsung goes forward with their governor we can forget about adding any if the traditional ones. Each core will be hotpluggable plus there have been reports that each core will run on its own frequency, making this an symmetrical multi CPU design. I highly doubt there's anything similar at all which could be used, so basically in terms of platform specific things, this has nothing to do with the S2. I don't even understand what most of you understand with development, for me it means low level kernel changes in how the device will function, not silly ROM development or modding.
Initially, I think it also depends on the price of the phone, Samsung have some competition right now, the One X is only $600 at Expansys. I can imagine the SIII will be $800+.

I got burned with my Samsung Vibrant. I'm not sure if it was Samsung or T-Mobile who dropped the ball, but there were no official upgrades past Froyo.

If you buy a carrier locked device, or if you device is older than 9months, you should expect that. With that said, I run CM9 on my Vibrant and it was great.
I read Sony provides some of the most firmware updates for their phones.

this might be because they have the most security flaws.... you know Sony
This is why I buy unsubsidized now on.

Don't count on that either. It took a very long time for Google to even release ICS for the Nexus S, a developer device.
Would the verizon version be left in the dust since it runs a Dualcore s4?
