Root process for Android 2.3.6 - Motorola Droid RAZR

I have upgraded to 2.3.6 but did not maintain root access even with using voodoo protecting it. Voodoo failed to protect root AP Flashing back to. 744, then again through OTA update to. 748, and a third time through the update to. 173. I made sure on all three attempts that all boxes were green before updating, so I know I didn't do that part wrong. I had to gain root access after each change. Now I am where I wanted to be but without root. So now I'm wondering if there is just a way to gain root on 2.3.6 instead of going through all of that again and again hoping each time it works. Imagine my frustration. Lol. Any ideas or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I am not responding how to get root access. But there are lot of us out there trying to gain root acces to Milestone x2 2.3.6. I believe the same method can work... It just needs to be discovered! Hopefully this will happen soon!

The Voodoo OTA Only works with DOOM's Zergrush root, not SuperOne Click.

[Q] Help unrooting Atrix

Okay, here is the situation: I have an Atrix (obviously) that I rooted using the Gingerbreak.exe downloaded from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1046626. I just tried to update my phone to Gingerbread using the OTA update in About Phone and it failed; I’m assuming it is because I have rooted the device (if not please correct me and tell me what I did wrong). So I hopped onto these forums looking for a way to undo the root, or a way to get the update to work, and my eyes have glazed over. Could someone please tell me how to unroot my atrix before i use it as a hockey puck
I posted a thread very similar to this. You should look around.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1184199
Now honestly, I have no idea why it didnt let you update, since I used SuperOneClick with Gingerbreak and it seemed to work after updating, Didn't really test out any SU apps but I still had it. To think of it, It's kinda useless for me to state that, however it states success...
One of the options for you, since you are still on Froyo and apparently rooted are to install Gingerbreak 1.2. I'm not 100% sure if it will work, but i do know it can't harm your device.
After you install Gingerbreak 1.2, you should root again, then after the reboot, reopen the app and unroot. This method should be flawless since you did re-root with the app. But again, Not 100% sure. And right now you can unlock your bootloader and just start loading if you'd like. That is a much easier and safer way to do it. Plenty of tuts on Android Dev forum here.
lol don't worry about unrooting. I'll tell you that much.
It's not so much of a problem with root, but moreso the pre-test that accompanies the OTA. If you fail it because you use Titanium to clear out bloatware and stuff like that. even if you remove root, you still won't be able to upgrade. Instead, just use this method.
Just download the Automated Upgrade for PC Users and let your phone upgrade. All your data should still be there, but backup before just in case. Oh, and if you wanna root again after you upgrade (cause i mean, why WOULDN'T you want root?!), just use the preinstall method (hehe I'll leave this for you to search. it'll be good practice for the future, i promise =])
happy upgrading!

[Q] Can't unroot my XT910

Hi Guys I'm a Noob
My phone is XT910 and it has several problem so i'm going to service center.
The problem is; I cannot unroot.
I updated recently after root.
After upgrading, I can't use apps that acquire root authority.
also unrooting is impossible. I mean I cannot remove SU so I cannot go to svc center.
S/W version is 65.3.106.XT910K.KT.en.KR
Is there any solution?
and I think it's impossible, but can I downgrade?
thx for reading this.
have you checked adb shell?
is superuser unable to detect root? is superuser still on your phone after the update?
have you try to reinstall superuser or superuser update fixer from the market?

I had to replace my XT910 logicboard because I dropped it in water and couldn't repair. The new motherboard comes with a rooted OS, system setting version reading 67.145.910.XT910.ChinaRetail.en.CN. I absolutely know nothing about rooting and have never tried it, and I don't know anything about the terms used in rooting. I want to un-root my device, but I do not know how to do that. I tried DooMLoRD, but it did not work (according to what I am being informed by Voodoo OTA RootKeepr, which says super user installed, device rooted, root permission granted, /system supports root protection protocol su available.)
How can I unroot my device?
Thank you
Unrooting can be achieved easily if you're not concerned about losing data on the phone. RSDlite (5.7) back to stock with the appropriate SBF Fastboot file (can't help with locating the appropriate SBF for international; you'll have to do some sniffing around). Then you can run an OTA if you need to, and you'll be back to 100% stock with none of the previous stock rom alterations (root, etc.) remaining.
EDIT
Check HERE; you may be able to locate the proper SBF.

Very stupid question

I had rooted my Atrix on 2.3.4 and all was well with the world. Did the 2.3.6 OTA update and it seems to have taken away my root access. So I tried to root it with SuperOneClick 2.3.3.0. I had used an earlier version of it to root 2.3.4. However it won't root it all the way. S.U.C. locks up and won't respond. I figure it's something stupid and simple that I'm overlooking, but I don't know what. The root process seems to go along quite well until it gets to the 7th step then nothing. It just freezes up. Any help or guidance would be GREATLY appreciated. The phone is working fine, but no root.
have you tried the pudding method? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1136261. Its how I rooted my phone, no issues.

[Q] Root before or after ICS OTA

Just got a razr max running 6.12.181.XT912.Verizon.en.US.
I really want to get ICS and wanting to know if I should wait for OTA then root or root. Will rooting be harder with ICS.
If I do root should I keep stock rom or get ICS leak or custom rom. There are a few things I like about smart actions would like to be able to keep if possible.
Thanks ahead of time
I would root now and try to keep root through the OTA, I don't know of any root method of ICS after the .85 build, and most of them you can't fast boot back to Gingerbread, so it's probably best to stay stock.
If you root, I would stay on the Stock ROM as ICS as been announced to be out by the end of quarter 2.
But it's all your choice.
Thanks for input. I know its my choice just want to make the right choice .
What is the best root method on razr? I have seen a lot about motofail is it the best?
Yes, Motofail is the most hassle free and easy root method. Just plug in with USB debugging enabled and run it! It installs Superuser and roots .173 through .181 easily.
My last question. Can it be removed if for some reason I have to take device back?
Thanks again for everything and the super fast responses!!!
Yes, root can be removed if you root with Motofail. Just to have everything in one place, I would recommend this utility http://www.droidforums.net/forum/dr...1-6-now-contains-6-12-181-fastboot-files.html it has root with motofail, fastbooting to .181, unrooting, overclock installs... I'll let you look at the rest.
Its rooted and I installed ota root keeper. Since i am not flashing anything right now i didn't do safestrap and fastboot. That should be enough to let me get OTA without any issues hopefully and be rooted.
Thanks again
Just a warning, when I was on the .79 leak I lost root when i tried Voodoo OTA Root Keeper. If you do when we get the official OTA it shouldn't be a big deal, because root methods are usually the first things found if losing root was common.

[Q] How to regain root access after losing it from ICS update

I've been enjoying root access on my Motorola XT910 on version 2.3.6 and was able to update to other Gingerbread updates. Apparently, doing OTA updates on my RAZR results with me losing my superuser access on my phone but I was able to restore it twice using "Voodoo OTA RootKeeper" app. However, just today, I updated to ICS and as usual, I lost root access. I tried restoring it using Voodoo but I could no longer run applications requiring superuser access this time.
Can someone help me so I can have root access on my device again? Should I re-root my device and will the old rooting method for Gingerbread work fine with a Motorola XT910 running on ICS?

That's kinda weird when I updated to ICS I was able to use voodoo to recover my root no problem. The newer versions of superuser have the ability to restore root access (like voodoo) you may want to see if that worked otherwise check out motofail's rooting for ics

Some of the easy root tools in the development section work on linux and PC.
Check for the threads entitled "[Tool]"...a lot of them are very easy to use.
