yes you should not have any problems. follow guide in the thread's first post and you should be fine make sure you backup your rom first
Make sure you are rooted first before flashing any custom roms first though.

[Q] Rooting question

I am confused about the whole kernel and baseband. Wad are their relevance in rooting an android phone???

Thanks, But as u can see the kernel and baseband are different. Which kernel shd I use? And I don;t understand 95% of the article! lol. I am a super noob!! I appreciate if u can help me make sense of all these things.
KF1 Kernel a kernel is not a baseband .
Kernel is the bit between cpu and OS .Baseband is the modem for network/GPS .
As rooting voids your warranty you should understand what you are doing before carrying out the task .

Well, I have few rooted phones behind me, and honestly, I did not really understand the thread(which is supposed to be for noobs) either... I just picked up one of those Kernels(KF4) and flashed it, phone is working just fine, so I guess I picked up the correct one, however no idea whats the difference between them anyways
2.6.35.7-I9100XWKF4-CL280225 - what to use ?

Hi there,
in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
I had found CF-Root-SGS2_ZS_OZS_KF4-v4.0-CWM4.zip
if my Kernel Version - 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKF4-CL280225
is this the file I shood use to root my phone.
Thanks Dansk
I happen to have a similar question!
I'm on 2.3.3/XWKF1 right now, if so, should I download CF-Root-SGS2_XW_OJV_KF1-v4.0-CWM4.zip?
But isn't it the KG1 that's gonna update me to 2.3.4?
This info to be exact...
PDA: I9100XWKF1
PHONE: I9100DXKF1
CSC: I9100OLBKE5

KG1 is just a kernel for andorid 2.3.4..and you need to upgrade rom to 2.3.4 as well.

Please ask Chainfire in his CF-Root thread (you have got the link already) for such a version ...
or flash a newer ROM via Odin (like described in Intratech's thread => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278) - for which there is a corresponding CF-Root kernel available.
There is a way to CWM, but you have to go for it

ITs impossible that your kernel says XXKDD and ChainFire will probably not even take the time to answer your question if you dont give the correct information. Please do the following:
Go into SETTINGS-ABOUT PHONE and post the following info

Glad we can help.Better than screwing your phone thats for sure.If your gonna keep on flashing firmwares or ROMs then i recommend you download Titanium Back-up from the market. It backs-up and restores all your apps + data and links them back to the market so you dont loose anything or keep having to re-download stuff again and again.Handy if you have paid apps or games and dont want to loose data
EDIT: I imagine when you flashed the new firmware you kernel changed so you could root,no?!

Instructions from the root post.
CWM Manager
Because of incompatibility with ROM Manager,
I wrote and included "CWM Manager". This is a new app (as of March 30, 2011). You can find it under Applications -> CWM. It is much faster to use than manually booting into CWM and selecting these options.

Hey,

Could you please further explain.
The most recent update isn't on the list I saw.
Can I simply flash another STOCK rom so that I have a revision number that is common, e.g. XXALF2
Will that root site you linked work for any revision, including the one I have above??
Please be really specific as I really want to root just a little worried.

[Q] Galaxy S II update from 2.3.4 to ICS

Hello xda-devs,
I rooted my sgs2 a while back , but now with the official release of ICS on my phone , I'd like to update to it.
My questions are: Can I do it without unrooting the phone? If not , how can I unroot my phone along with most of the apps I got that only work on rooted devices?
Thanks in advance

You have to Root again. Actually rooting is much easier in ICS.
First, you need to post your Firmware details: Goto Settings > About phone, and post everything you see.
