Hey.
I really want to install a few roms (also yet to root ) but I'm nervous as it's my first Samsung.
Baseband: I9300BULF1
Build Number: IMM76D.I9300BUALF1
These don't seem to match anything on the forum so can someone comment.
Thanks in advance.

Hey,
Thanks for the reply.
Could you please further explain.
The most recent update isn't on the list I saw.
Can I simply flash another STOCK rom so that I have a revision number that is common, e.g. XXALF2
Will that root site you linked work for any revision, including the one I have above??
Please be really specific as I really want to root just a little worried.

Any root file .
jje
surely it must be the root file which corresponds to your kernel?
if you can use either then why do all the different kernels?
Any body with a constructive comment.
ANY will work .
KE5 is your firmware but no root KE5 nearest KE7
End .
jje
ok, but why the need for all the different kernels KE1, KE2 etc etc.
Why not just have one generic one then if any will work?

In the same forum, look for the other thread on how to root from my specific operator ROM.
I gave the answer.
You must first flash an official firmware then flash your specific csc
Then you will be able to flash CF root corresponding to your new firmware.
Flashing official firmware, you could loose specific apps or widggets provided by your operator

I'm in the UK, on T-Mobile. Latest official update for us is to 2.3.3, or specifically from Kies:
PDA:KG2 / PHONE:KG1 / CSC:KF1
I have been looking through this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
to find out which ROM I should go for, but have just been confuzzled by the vast array of choice. Could someone please point me in the right direction?
CSC are basically left untouched and modems(Phone) you will have to try each one on your own as they are region specific. Though there are some popular choices like. All's left is kernel which is the version 2.3.3 your phone is currently on. So flashing only 2.3.5 which is KI4 (PDA) will do.
Thanks. Okay, so suppose I just want to root my current firmware. Where do I go to find the instructions and requisite files? The thread I linked wasn't much help with the latter.
Edit: Ah wait, with some searching I found this thread. Nvm

Wrong !
KI4 is Android 2.3.4 ...
... KI3 is 2.3.5 !
Yeah, it is a bit confusing with Samsung's naming convention for its ROM versions
I'd recommend this ROM, very customizable via the Kitchen App

Hi,
My Galaxy GT-9100G is not showing the complete long kernel version which makes me unable to do any kind of software upgrade or rooting because I cannot know the exact version to download the appropriate files.
Any idea what could be the problem? is there any software that can retrieve the kernel version..
the attached picture is worth a thousand words...

yes you should not have any problems. follow guide in the thread's first post and you should be fine make sure you backup your rom first
Make sure you are rooted first before flashing any custom roms first though.

hi,my name is gaurav and am from india.I own a SGS3GT I9300 with the following:-
GT-I9300 Galaxy S III
PDA: I9300XXEMG5
CSC: I9300ODDEMG1
MODEM: I9300DDEMG2
after flashing a few roms and loosing my IMEI in the process and then with a lot of help from rootSU i was able to get my phone working again, although i have come to an uderstanding that i've to keep my baseband to MG2 only but my problem is how to check the baseband in any of the roms with so many roms available for flashing(i've been told to look into the thread but in some cases i couldn't find the baseband)
is there a system of naming the roms which i obviously don't know which gives an indication of the baseband and how does one comes to know whether a roms has baseband or not
help
thanks in advance....

the question should be phrased as "how will i know which rom has a modem also flashed along with it."
DDEMG2 modem flashable zip
flash any rom (firmware version above MG2) if your baseband changes flash the above modem. baseband will return to ddemg2.
If its a stock rom modem is named .
If its a custom rom it may not have a modem .
You would be far better off not flashing any rom if your phone is now working .

Thanks for the zip file.
I've understood a lot with your help and now only tell me this firmware version above mg2 you are referring to is for PDA,CSC OR MODEM and this is flashable via odin or cwm.?.One more thing i read about coding of samsung and according to that my country code is DD so what does XX signifies in my PDA???.I know it's irritating but a little help from you will go a long way in making me understand......
thanks in advance

When i say mg2 i am referring to pda
XX=Country code (for indian firmware pda will have DD .. but you can use any firmware version.. country specific firmwares help in region specific updates from samsung)
M=year (A=2001 B=2002 and so on.. so M= 2013)
G=month (A=jan B=feb c=mar and so on.. so G=July)
2=revision number
All this have been answered 100s of time.. if u had read sticky threads in general section you would have seen them..
since i had free time i replied others would have just ignored you !

that's what it is everybody thinks one doesn't read, had i not read i would not have been able to restore my efs and not known about country code...only thing is the more one reads the more one discovers his ignorance ........
but anyways so by your explanation my pda should have been DDEMG5 but it's XXEMG5 at the moment and i've checked it from sammobile and xda also that XXEMG5 is the latest firmware for gti9300 in india. So what's wrong?
and i think the zip file will be used in CWM only?
