[Q] New to android and galaxy s2 !!!!!

I have a few questions sorry if its a repost but id rather make sure I get a good answer to those questions then any other variant of them.
I got a galaxy s2 a week ago and I feel like the battery life is really bad and the phone heats alot sometimes.... (BTW this is my first smartphone EVER) I was wondering which one of all these custom ROMs out there is the best for the galaxy s2? Which one will give me the smoothest experience with a good battery life and fix that heating problem?
Also, I have the Canadian bell's version so MUGKG2... When I look at ROMs all I see is XXKH3 or XXKE7, etc... Basically how and what version do I have to use/install to get a custom ROM? (P.S I know how Odin works and I know how to root since my phone is already rooted)
And what is the latest Android version possible to get on the galaxy s2? I heard something about 4.0 but I think the latest version possible to install is the 2.3.4 am I right? Also, every ROM is 2.3.4 right? Or do I have to flash a 2.3.4 (or 4.0 depending on the latest version) kernel on the phone?
Thanks for your time and have a good day!!!!!!!
Nick
1. there's no exact answer to which rom or kernel gives the best batt life. u should actually test them to see which fits your preference. there are also threads here which does benchmarkings and testing out batt life. try searching for them.
2. when u install a custom rom, it will say on their thread on what baseband version they based their rom. for example, LeoMar's ROM is based on KH3, etc. the rom chooses it for you basically.
3. the latest is 2.3.4, and almost all custom ROMs are based on 2.3.4. no need to flash anything extra
Ok so do I actually have to find a XXKG2 or MUGKG2 based ROM or I can take anything? And from personal experience which one do you think is the best one?
you can actually take in anything (at least your phone's getting an updated baseband version thru the custom roms).
i'm not quite sure how the different versions of the baseband affects my phone. i don't notice any difference in performance actually.
Aight!!! Thanks man. Which one do you recommend?
you can try using the dlev2 rom version 1.2 , its indeed great and also has good battery life

cognition or litening rom can be good choices to start with.
leomar rom gives a lot of customization options because it has a kitchen app on the android market.
My recommendation is that you read some more, get comfortable before you flash anything on your device, know what you are about to get into instead of going on someone else's opinion, the questions you ask are of someone who doesn't fully understand what they are about to do.
It helps when you read a lot, you are able to think your own way through if something doesn't go exactly as planed, else you would have to come right back here to ask a million questions
you can find official firmware here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
as a few posts above i agree what that person said..do a bit more reading before you start flashing. i can remember the time when i wanted to start flashing and rooting and when i did not back up the stock rom the first time i panicked and i did not know what to do and how to get back the stock rom...funny now but back then not so funny..
anyway research play with your stock rom for a while and then flash...for custom rom i would suggest a few...Im using BatistaRom 3.7.7 its the smoothest fastest and battery efficient rom i have used so far...even when i go and try other roms i always come back to this one. For battery as well VillainRom 2.4.2 is one heck of a custom rom and the battery life on that bad boy is wicked..
With regarding kernels again it varies...read the threads of the rom you are interested in flashing and see what people suggest on them..
good luck and be careful when rooting and flashing. any help you need throw me a PM..
Yeah, there are like tons of ROMs and customizations for SGS2 and all major developers are cooking something or the other for our GS2...
Selection of ROM depends only on taste. Some people wants battery life, some people wants only speed and performance. So ask yourself, what kinda ROM you need. One built from scratch, one modded from stock, AOSP?
I use GingerMod Vanilla 0.4. Suits my taste

[Q][ASAP] Root & Most Stable Rom

Hey guys...
I know it may seem a bit strange to post here since i own an HTC DS
but i am an old X10 user until i've lost it 1,5 year ago..
Anyway, i have this friend of mine who would like to have his phone
Rooted and run a new ROM on it.
Since i have much more experience in flashing and programming he
asked me to do it for him.
So you will be asking now, where is the problem in all these?
It has been a long time since i've changed phone and the rooting method
has changed i guess...
Can someone provide me an easy way to get rooted since it is NOT my phone
and i dont want to get in trouble?
PS. I've checked most of the roms in the forums, since i cant test them and etc,
Can someone tell wich is the most stable XperiaS looking ROM for x10 ?
Root using Flashtool, then install any ROM you like, i'd suggest you use Cobrato's MiUI or DonutHD or FeraLab, these three are the most stable in my own experience, i only installed these for quite a while, other members may help you with their opinions on other roms
good luck!
Most stable rom as used before is Oodie X prime MiUI, kernel based on developer (ooDie kernel) So its stable, smooth and fastest without any problem. Then i switch to Feralab V20 and using now stable , smooth without any FC. Use ThKernel 029 or ThKernal v12-4, both is very good for Feralab v20 ROM.
U should try
ahhh thank you guys but im looking for an XperiaS-themed ROM
is there any stable one? i've seen some in the development forum but,
i cant test them xD
I would undoubtly say DiXperia, I have used for quite a while, it has the Xperia S look and feel, it's stable, fast, a great one! you can't find it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1557455

Fera V20 with ThKernel 12-4... perfect!!!

spartan rom+rage kernel is it good?

hello everyone! title says it all. please answer yes or no and why asap!
im getting bored of stock rom and kernel and i feel like want to have something fun on my phone like overclocking and that ****.
so please tell me does spartan rom and rage kernel combination is good?
i want a rom and kernel with a very very very very very good battery life, and good performance.
or any other rom+kernel suggestions??
no ics please. gb only thank you!
It supposedly is the best for battery life out was one of the first custom roms I tried and found out to be very tast and smooth, rage kernel has good reputation for battery life,,you can also try miui Gb roms which allow a little more customization feats

[Q]What ROM for U?

Hey guys, so now as I tried like all CM9 ROMs for Xperia U (Locked bootloader) I wasn't satisfied because of numerous things: battery life, random restarting, and on the last rom it was the worst. Started bootlooping out of nowhere. All my app data was gone (well the last Titanium backup, which was like 3 weeks old).
Now I would like to ask you guys, which is the best Stock ROM for Xperia U?
I have tried Xperiance Lite 3.0 (Might try if it updates, but that developer seems to be in-active) and the new one RowROM which I rushed to download as I needed my phone back to life again (after I got bootlooped from CM9).
I need: Good battery life (2-3 days, similar to stock), good performance, cool looking like custom SystemUI, obviously toggles on Status Bar because I don't like installing Power Toggles as RAM on Xperia U is enormous issue. And that's the last thing - a lot of free RAM.
Help appreciated!
for me stock is 54, indian, or nother countryes, then you can modyfy it with zip files or etc
best rom threads arent allowed no matter they use stock as base or cm 9
for me i feel xperiance litev3 is good.... u can also try on by jatinrungta.... zexperience is the name is guess... .
best is to try them friend and find out urself
As stated, please just test and do your homework.

Which android for us?

Hi guys, I have some experience on xperia mini because it is my gf's phone and sometimes she leaves it to me so that I just flash something.
I remember when it was on gb: really smooth and fast, gameplay was awesome too, in stock rom and in modded rom.
Now it is on ics and it seems to be more laggy, battery sucker and with less stability. It is on stock rom with crossbreeder and lupus kernel, I've found this as the best ics combination for better stability but I remember gb was one other thing.
I haven't tried jb yet but, onestly, I'm not so convinced.
My questions are: which android version have you preferred? And why? Have you experienced my same sensations?

Im also having a Xperia Miniā„¢ and received per-installed ICS..Stock OS is ok to me but limited features.Main problem is battery life.So I moved to a custom rom and then I start the flashing war .
I tried lot of custom rom's with varies kernels. I found some good custom rom's which can play HD games smoothly and with more features. So I think custom Rom's are good but still there are some bugs because those rom developers not from SE software team...
Btw,I think ICS is better than GB..Support applications,more features..etc
OP really the only way of knowing is to test/flash for yourself, better yet read thru the forums Development section. If you are allowed to test on the device...
There are to many variables involved in asking others what they prefer....usage/apps so on. Thanks
