Hello
I live in Poland, a hole somewhere in Europe, between Russia and the USA...
I have an Xperia Pro MK16i with 2.3.4
Compilation: 4.0.2.A.0.58
Kernel: 2.6.32.9-perf
[email protected] SEMCHost#1
I am familiar with adb, previously I've had a HTC Dream, which I used to flash and root many times.
I would like to root my Xperia and:
1. Remove some bloatware (SE apps are, in majority, useless for me)
2. Change the screen DPI, to make it show more content.
And my question is:
After doing this, will I receive OTA updating my Android to 4.0 ICS?
I am NOT going to unlock the bootloader, change the recovery or ROM. I just want to decrease DPI value and, optionally, remove some bloatware.
Another question:
Can I do the root with Gingerbreak/Superoneclick or do I have to use the method via adb by DooMLoRD from here:
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=18805560#post18805560
?
could anyone help?
I think YES
nowhere is written, that it is not working if you only rooted and delete some apps who can install again
with changing DPI I have no experience, but I think that it is not a important change
I'm sorry for my crazy, bad english
Hi,
greetings from another hole near Poland
Short time ago I also wanted to root and clean my MK16i. Unfortunately I had to downgrade to .42 firmware using Wotanserver first, because I upgraded shortly after buying using OTA to .62 which is probably not rootable using DooMLoRD Zerg Rush.
I was advised, that I cannot use OTA (and thus we removed the SE update service from the phone) as I would loose ROOT. So I decided rather to stick with 0.42 and wait till the ICS will be rootable on MK16i without unlocking the bootloader etc.

Hi,
New to the Xperia Play but am confident in rooting through other devices, X10, Galaxy S2, Armani S etc.
Now in the guides it asks to flash the .181 before upgrading to .184 if not an unlocked bootloader or flashing .184 direct if it is unlocked.
I am currently using .145 which isnt listed in the guide.
Can anyone confirm if there's a difference or if I'm on a ROM which can't have the bootloader unlocked??
Thanks.
Edit: I can connect via fastboot and get a version 0.3 returned after doing the getjar version command. So really, is the .184 the best update to go to as opposed to a .145?
Follow this guide here. Just flash the .184 then root and then ota update to 2.3.3. You will be rooted on 2.3.3 build .145.
builds;
R800i:
3.0.A.2.181 // 7X30A-AAABQMAZM-1290_14-10 (forgot android version)
3.0.A.2.184 // 7X30A-AAABQMAZM-1290_14-14 (2.3.2)
3.0.1.A.0.145 // 7X30A-AAABQMAZM-1290_21-22 (2.3.3)
.145 is not listed because gingerbreak doesnt work on 2.3.3 and is the latest version you are upgrading to. It only works on builds .181 or .184 so you need to flash the previous version (.184 (2.3.2) in the guide above, you dont need to flash .181 and .184 just the previous version or 2.3.3 which is .184) for root access to succeed then use ota to keep root.
If you bought an r800i then the bootloader is unlockable. Go here if you want to unlock http://unlockbootloader.sonyericsson.com/instructions but if all you want is root then unlocking the bootloader is not needed atm (just follow the guide in the link above) you can unlock later if you want to install cm7 when the bugs are worked out or any other custom rom.
So really, is the .184 the best update to go to as opposed to a .145?

.184 is 2.3.2, .145 is 2.3.3 the latest version out atm you only need to go to .184 so rooting with gingerbreak will work then you use ota to upgrade to .145 with root still enabled
Hi there,
as I had not much time last weeks and months I only read a little bit in this forums but didn't touch the system on my X10. Now I have a little bit time and want to update my phone to latest official firmware (I know there will be 2.3.3 soon, but I want to update before) and get root.
Currently I have the first 2.1 update which appeared, without multitouch, but with the ability to get root with the z4root app. Here more data on my version:
Build: 2.0.A.0.504
BB: 2.0.46
Firmware: 2.1-update1
Generic Germany and rooted!
What I want: Latest official update through SEUS + root + maybe JIT if possible.
Can you guys help me please and write down the steps (maybe with links) I have to do.
I am on windows 7 32bit now.
Thanks in advance!
PS: if you need an Google+ invitation pm me
Ok, now I updated to the latest SEUS version, and lost root of course. My data, apps and config is still there after update.
Now how is the easiest way to bring root back and maybe enable JIT. With flashtool? Any chance to keep config + apps?
I am now on:
BB 2.1.67
Fw 2.1.B.0.1
Thanks for help!

Yes, with flashtool. On your phone go into Settings / Applications and unable unknown sources and usb debugging. Leave phone on and connect via usb to flashtool. Work your way left to right on the tabs on the flashtool. Optimize tab is JIT.
Thank you for the fast reply! So will I lose my data while flashing or does the fashtool has a backup option? Do I need to flash the baseband too?
Thanks again!

I don't know why people think you need to flash the baseband separate. It's part of the firmware, which you already have from SEUS.
No, rooting and optimizing will not wipe data.
Hi
i have unlocked mini pro and i have some questions:
1) my phone says it has the latest firmware...i have .58 version not .62... can i force the installation of this new firmware ?
2) what is new on .62 ?
3) what is the easies way to unlock boot since i see some ways of doing it but i dont understand what is the best (i dont want to loose warranty nor SE stuff acess)
4) i do want to keep stock firmware since i like it and its stable
5) anyone knows when will official ICS will be launched by SE?
regards
You can unlock your bootloader by testpoint method you will not loose warranty if you do this way search for the thread you will find it.
Official Ics will be launched end of march tentative.
its not QnA
u can post this on Xperia Mini & Mini Pro & Active General
Mod remove this thread plz
nothing new in .62 only some minor bug fixes and it patches the phone so that it cannot be rooted.
Dont upgrade if u want to root
Hey.
I´m new at this forum and maybe its not in the right place, that I post this (I could not post i develope).
I´m looking for nordic (DK) official software for my SK17i Xperia mini pro.
A couple of months ago I rooted the phone, but now I have new phone and I gave my wife the Mini pro. But there is a lot of problems with it.
Yesterday I flashed it with 4.0.A.2.368 but now the slide down keyboard does not work with the danish letters "Æ", "Ø" and "Å".
And furthermore when I rooted the phone, I was not able to update it through SEUS or PC Companion to an official firmware, because it says that the phone have modified software.
So I found a generic nordic firmware in this thread, but Megaupload is shutted down by the departement of justice.
What to do ?
You should use Wotanserver to flash your Xperia Mini Pro, just follow the instructions.
You can select which version and language you want to flash.
My phone is rooted and I can reflash it with PC companion or SEUS whith no problem.Just wondering why you cant do sR you maybe unlockt bootloader, this may be a reason.
Have you tried SEUS in repair mode? That should definitely work (as in, get you a clean firmware). Depending on your current firmware (your /system/build.prop ) that may not be helpful because you might still get a normal qwerty firmware; in that case, just root your firmware and edit /system/build.prop as described in a thread by me about forcing SEUS to flash a firmware of your choice; HERE.

I have a Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro MK16i originally purchased second-hand in Canada with a carrier-less ROM, currently activated with Telcel, running Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.4.
I am trying to root my phone, but all I can find online is either for the MK16a, or for the Gingerbread version. For what it seems, the only way to root my phone is by downgrading to Gingerbread, rooting, then upgrading back to Ice Cream Sandwich, and the only way to do it is with a ROM flashing utility with which I risk bricking the phone. I've considered installing CyanogenMod, but I tried to do it on another phone with a similar installation process (an Xperia Mini) and I never managed to unlock the bootloader.
Is there an easier, or at least safer and less invasive way, to root this phone than doing the downgrade reflash, root and upgrade reflash thing?
