I have a Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro MK16i originally purchased second-hand in Canada with a carrier-less ROM, currently activated with Telcel, running Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.4.
I am trying to root my phone, but all I can find online is either for the MK16a, or for the Gingerbread version. For what it seems, the only way to root my phone is by downgrading to Gingerbread, rooting, then upgrading back to Ice Cream Sandwich, and the only way to do it is with a ROM flashing utility with which I risk bricking the phone. I've considered installing CyanogenMod, but I tried to do it on another phone with a similar installation process (an Xperia Mini) and I never managed to unlock the bootloader.
Is there an easier, or at least safer and less invasive way, to root this phone than doing the downgrade reflash, root and upgrade reflash thing?

Hello
I live in Poland, a hole somewhere in Europe, between Russia and the USA...
I have an Xperia Pro MK16i with 2.3.4
Compilation: 4.0.2.A.0.58
Kernel: 2.6.32.9-perf
[email protected] SEMCHost#1
I am familiar with adb, previously I've had a HTC Dream, which I used to flash and root many times.
I would like to root my Xperia and:
1. Remove some bloatware (SE apps are, in majority, useless for me)
2. Change the screen DPI, to make it show more content.
And my question is:
After doing this, will I receive OTA updating my Android to 4.0 ICS?
I am NOT going to unlock the bootloader, change the recovery or ROM. I just want to decrease DPI value and, optionally, remove some bloatware.
Another question:
Can I do the root with Gingerbreak/Superoneclick or do I have to use the method via adb by DooMLoRD from here:
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=18805560#post18805560
?
could anyone help?
I think YES
nowhere is written, that it is not working if you only rooted and delete some apps who can install again
with changing DPI I have no experience, but I think that it is not a important change
I'm sorry for my crazy, bad english
Hi,
greetings from another hole near Poland
Short time ago I also wanted to root and clean my MK16i. Unfortunately I had to downgrade to .42 firmware using Wotanserver first, because I upgraded shortly after buying using OTA to .62 which is probably not rootable using DooMLoRD Zerg Rush.
I was advised, that I cannot use OTA (and thus we removed the SE update service from the phone) as I would loose ROOT. So I decided rather to stick with 0.42 and wait till the ICS will be rootable on MK16i without unlocking the bootloader etc.
I have been waiting for 6 months for O2 UK to approve the Ice Cream Sandwich Update for the Xperia Neo, then I read an article on Techradar saying: "O2 blocks Ice Cream Sandwich for Xperia Arc, Ray and Neo
All stuck with Android 2.3 Gingerbread"
So should I stay on Gingerbread or root? I also own a Nexus 7 with Jelly Bean so I guess I can live without Ice Cream Sandwich on my phone. Is Ice Cream Sandwich as buggy as people say? Please tell me what you think I should do, what steps are required for rooting?
Thanks
No need for root if you just want to flash ICS fw.
It's done with flashtool.
If you wanna, you can store your region number (CDF number) so you can always use PCC or SEUS to go back to your original fw.
Read this thread to know how to get your CDF number: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1604559
Should you stay on GB or go for ICS, well, if you gonna go for ICS, then you will need to root it after flash, and remove bloatware apps.. because stock ICS is heavy for our phones.
Regards,
I tried to root my xperia mini pro, but I failed. I installed over flastool a kernal, system(I do not know exactly what) and now I can not do Officinal update. How can I solve this?
Device, firmware, bootloader status, rom....How is someone suppoosed to help without knowing the basics? And how can you say "I flashed something, i don't know exactly what)...??
Ohh, i'm sorry..
Device: Sony Ericsson xperia mini pro (sk17i)
Android version:4.0.4
Software number: 4.1.b.431
Kernal: 2.6.32.9-pref [email protected] #1
I've just flash stock rom from site(http: //uploaded.net/folder/6fy4l8). And when I tried to install the update that offered me the phone, I could not. How do I solve this problem? Thanks in advance.
what is your current bootloader status. is it locked or unlocked? if you unlocked your bootloader and try to update your phone with seus of pc companion, u will end up soft bricking your device. the only option to update your phone is through flashtool
bro see you can root from here : - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2FxgZ7vkRLY
Thanks guys,i success to root my sk17i and now i'm using CM10 fxp... Phone is working better than official Sony rom.
I'd like to restore the stock 2.3.3 ROM on my X10, but SEUS (or SUS now) doesn't support this model anymore. Is there any other way to do it?
It did five days ago, as I just reset my XPERIA X10i phone.
Admittedly, I didn't download a new version of SUS, but just used an existing version that does check for current version.
Used it to upgrade an XPERIA M a month ago, so know it's latest version.

Could you provide the source of your SEUS setup (or if you are somehow in possesion of the setup file, could you upload it for me)? I'd be awful grateful.
i've already unlocked the bootloader, and i'm using a custom miui rom..
any idea how to flash it back to stock rom?
I've already given it a try, but there's no option for X10.
hi all .. I ask this question because my xperia neo mt11a has locked bootloader ... I already have the code to release him, even I can not find the tools to do this, install programs asking sony ericsson adt-bundle-windows-x86-20140702 to place you the code but I honestly could not do it, use this program Bootloader_Unlocking_Relocking SE, freezes, even so I would like to know if I have my phone salvation.
I want to upgrade my phone to a cooked rom. at the moment I have the version 4.0.4 with build number 4.1.B.0.587
