I have the latest firmware list samfirmware. exactly:
S5830XWKT6 ## 2011 December S5830OXXKT3 Portugal (TPH)
what do you recommend?
Samfirmware list
EDIT:
SOLVED. the problem could be caused by two things:
- The two file recovery, that cwm4 and cwm5, could be corrupted because I had them on a dvd-rw
- After the flash recovery delel were not super-user powers, thus supporting the hypothesis of corrupted files
- Binary file root to not fully compatible with version 2.3.6 of gingerbread

instal kies
upgrade to gingerbreaad

but still you need samsung kies installed
or odin wontwork
by odin you need cooper.ops
an firmware 2.3.x from sammobile.com/forum

Are you kidding me ? That was a bad answer .
All versions of Android can flash custom ROMs .
NoName V1 for Froyo by an0nym0us_ explains it
Herpderp DXKPB.
- download GingerBread Stock ROM then flash it with Odin
- root it then download CWM Recovery or Install it from market and download this one too recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.6-galaxyace-fix.zip
- after installing CWM Recovery apk or from market, open it and go to recovery
- choose install update from zip then choose the zip file recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.6-galaxyace-fix.zip

Start reading on how to root and installing kernel with CWM Recovery. SGS kernel and recovery parttions are the same.
Easiest way is flash Chainfire's CF-Root kernel with Odin here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
There are many other ways; Intratech has a quick root guide in post #1 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
Read, read and read some more until your confident to do it. Otherwise don't.
Please also read the "Stickies" in each forum and FAQ etc and search for answers BEFORE posting.
Best of luck
And if you really want to try ice cream sandwich, i will advice you to go with cm9 first as it delivers the smoothest of the experience with almost no force closes or random reboots. You arr aware of the fact that you are going to flash an expermental build right. Its not stable for daily use yet.

I am familiar with flashing. I had the LG Optimus LTE before this and flashed quite a few roms, This phone however has me awfully confused. I have been researching all day. And so far i am under the understanding that the touch cwm are not good and the use the 4.0.1.5 recovery. But what i don't understand is how do you install roms without wiping data/factory reset through cwm? don't most roms require this? and isn't that what causes the superbrick? Sorry for sounding like a noob. but can you tell me how you do your flashing?

Just use a different kernel, like siyah (www.gokhanmoral.com and make it's for the s2 not s3). Then you can wipe data. Just didn't not be on 4.0.4, and have a samsung based kernel (the kernel dev should have info in the op). Once you're on a safe kernel you can flash whatever you want and wipe data.

If you are flashing STOCK ROM with odin then you don't need to wipe data/cache/dalvik.
If you are flashing a CUSTOM ROM through cwm recovery then wipes are recommended.
