[Q] Camera clicking while focusing. - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Hi on my transformer prime I have noticed that the camera makes a clicking sound while focusing. I don't think it did when I first got it, and then there was a camera firmware update and ever since it has been making the sound. It can't really be anything bad but does anyone have any ideas about what/why it's is making the sound for?

I hear this too, not sure of the cause but I too would like to hear some peoples ideas on it.

Glad to know I'm not the only one

I have this on my HTC inspire I think its normal because of the movement of the lenses when it focuses

I made a thread about this a while ago, and apparently the camera is mechanical, so it's just the lens or whatever focusing and moving. Make the focus mode "Infinity" and it will stop clicking, but the focus won't work very well (or at all?).

It has always clicked, yes.
And yes, clicking is reduced if you change the focus to 'continuous' mode. I haven't had a problem w/ focus on video recording on continuous.

lens moves when it focuses. its the same on my desireHD... and never bothered me at all

Tip: Camera app has controllable focus

I had been disappointed the camera app didn't apparently support tap to focus. Turns out it has something similar, just hidden behind an awkward user interface.
You can slide the focus box in the middle with your finger to whatever you want to focus on.
I thought I had explored the app pretty thoroughly, but didn't find that one until I read the review of the Photon on Phonescoop.
If i am not mistaken (and usually i am) lol, I thought I was able to do that as well on my EVO 4G running MikG. I don't have my EVO with me at the moment here at work, but I'll see once i get home. Either way, good to know.
Thanks for the tip.
Edit: just checked with my sis and nope I must have imagined it doing that.
TS out
OK so whatever you move the box to center on is the point of auto focus for the photo....very cool !
now, how do we turn off the extremely annoying shutter sound?
Even with manually adjusting the focus, have you noticed that this camera is particularly bad at taking close-up photos? My Nexus One never had a blurry or out-of-focus photo, but for some reason the camera on my new Photon takes crap pictures. I've even tried the macro mode and it still looks terrible. This is at about 4 inches away from the object being photographed. I tried in various different light settings too.

"Clicky" sound when camera focusing?

Does anyone have a a clicky camera on their Prime? I'm running ICS and the latest firmware for the camera. Not sure what version exactly...
It's especially evident when shooting a video and you touch to focus. Can even hear it in the recorded video (sounds very loud).
Additionally, I've noticed that the picture quality isn't quite up to scratch...
Anyone reporting similar issues at all?
I've got it too, doesn't actually bother me...maybe it's related to the haptic feedback ticks...
I find it extremely loud to be honest. Thinking perhaps the firmware update broke the camera
Nah, I've had the "click" since HC...
It's just the camera focusing. My Rezound and OG Inc do it as well.

yep, it's the camera focus. Doesn't bother me in pics obviously, but sometimes i can hear it in my recorded videos, which is slightly bothersome. The camera is fantastic though, really.
Yeah, I've noticed this as well, however, it only seems to happen during a manual/adjusted focus. I changed my video recorder settings to continuous focus and haven't heard it in a video since.

[Q] Video Camera auto focus issue

Hello, does anyone else have issues with the auto focus on the video camera? I've posted this in a few other threads but have yet to see any response as to possible cause/solution. Whenever I go to the camcorder, the auto focus will keep going in and out of focus, even if I'm not moving the camera and I'm focused on a still object, causing the video to appear blurry and distracting. Anyone have a solution for this? None of the other galaxy s3 variants have this issue (as far as I've seen), and I believe Engadget noticed this in their review, so I don't think this is just me. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
Same here...
I can't help much other than to tell you that I have noticed the exact same problem. In fact, I found your post while searching for a solution. Anyone have any idea how to fix this? Is it a defect?
I have no solution but you're not alone. I've seen the same issue. The auto focus seems to reset, and have to refocus a lot. I've seen it repeatedly taking with videos of my kid, even when the subject isn't moving. The camera seems to roll all the way through its entire range of focus before settling back down, even on non moving subjects already in focus. This seems to even occur in situations that should be easy to focus on the subject or stay focused.
The same thing seems to happen with the still camera if you just let it sit but of course since you don't notice it as it just needs to be in focus when it shoots.
Very annoying and seems to be worse sometimes, less so others but I haven't yet figured out what conditions it occurs the most in.
Downgrading to 720p helped me with this issue. It's still there, however not as bad.
Check out this video, should help: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZuFQ-X_tSrc
Start filming the once it starts tap the screen it will dissable the auto focus. You will see a little AF bottom right.

[Q] Camera focus

Any one else have an issue where the camera focusing causes a slight popping sound? This is fine for stills, but when focusing during a video the popping is audible on playback which is very unwanted.

Hmm. Nope. Not so far.
Can you tell if it's interference coming through the speaker, or actually from within the phone itself?
Yes. Mine does that too and you can definitely hear it during video playback. It's almost like the lens carrier or something (not familiar with camera parts...) is ramming into hard stops as it focuses. I've found that turning off auto focus helps, but does not eliminate it. Kinda sucks, but probably not much we can do about it.

Its definitely not the speaker. Its comes from within the camera when it focuses, the shutter perhaps?
Seems like a phone quirk. Pictures still come out fine. On the phandroid forums there are others with the same issue. I might try an exchange, might try to live with it. Not sure yet.

Mine makes this same "click" noise with autofocus on. Pictures come out fine but it just doesnt sound right.
I think it is normal. More and more cameras seem to be doing this lately, I think it a side effect of the manufacturers trying to get better sensor in the cameras while still maintaining a small size.
it's what HTC would call a "feature"

Focusing Issues with Camera on ICS?

I recently installed a ROM based on the OTA ICS update, and it seems like my camera is having difficulty focusing (similar problem I had when I used the Chase app for my OG Droid). It will attempt to focus, at some point during the process will focus properly, goes past the optimal focus point and ends up out of focus.
Thanks
Does this happen when only taking macro shots? I've had this problem since gb and it has something to do with the lighting. The problem isnt constant but it does happen often. I've searched around and it seems like a lot of HTC phones have this.

I just noticed this the other day, I was trying to get a close up shot and it would not focus, so I turned macro on and it still wouldn't focus. I even flashed one of the camera mods, I think 1.5?? and still didn't fix it.

Nope it's out of focus for pretty much any type of shot, no matter where I focus on the screen. (Auto-focus off, Face Detection off, btw).
It seems the problem is depth of field, I think. I don't know the terminology, but I describe it as a scenes with the subject in the foreground and something in the background (e.g. a person standing in front of a mountain backdrop).
If it's a scene like the one described above, it will just kinda focus in-between because it's confused if it should focus on the person or the mountain. If i'm taking a photo of something, say a wallet on a desk, it will do an OK job focusing on the wallet.
...
I just figured out a temporary fix. The focusing issues only occur in 4:3 mode but works just about flawlessly in 16:9.
Just wanted to see if anyone else out there has focus issues in 4:3 mode but not 16:9 mode?
I've had the same issues on all is roms lately. Fix seems to be to just stay away from 4:3 mode :/

Hmm I tried switching back to 16:9 and it does seem to have a better time focusing. Granted that could just be a placebo effect. Any other opinions?
