Sgs2 unlock/root and unroot/stock ROM update? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi..i have a Three UK network phone which i have unlocked using method described on xda...however I'd like to debrand it by installing another ROM and unroot...will i lose the unlock in this process?
Also, if i downloaded ROM from samfirmware, how can i apply using odin as there are a few files included? I'm not very technical when it comes to various intricacies of Android ROMs!
As always thanks for your help in advance...

You can flash any firmware you like, and later a csc to match UK or just enter the APN settings manually. XX UK or XE/XW European etc, but as I said, doesn't really matter. For best data speed, connection etc you need to then flash a modem that best suits your carrier. Best to just try.
For the latest modems, some flashable via Odin and in CWM recovery:

Csc question

Hey if i download a custom rom do i need to download the original csc package?
Sent from my GT-I9100T using XDA Premium App
I don't believe so.
You only need to download a CSC package if you need to change the CSC that's curently installed on your phone.
Oh ok but if i download a rom doesnt it change the csc?
Sent from my GT-I9100T using XDA Premium App
CSC is totally independent of anything else, if you update via kies it may update your csc but unless you flash a new one via odin it won't be overwritten by custom roms.
You also don't need to update your csc its mostly just apn settings and maybe some region specific Apps eg iplayer in the uk.

So if i flash the latest KG3 firmware it will change the csc. Can i just flash the original csc package

CSC in stock rom post in Dev section choose the one for your area .
Flash after flashing full rom .

Rom flashing

Hi I want to flash to the latest firmware but my current Rom is branded. I read on a website if you flash an unbranded Rom to a branded Rom it bricks your phone. Is this true or is it just as simple as downloading the latest firmware and flashing via ordin ?
Any help is highly appreciated
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
it is simple as dwnloading and flashing. but make sure you read and understand.
Also do not include the .pit file when you flash, bad things can happen
Thanks for the help

Galaxy s2 Flashing firmware via odin

Hi guys.
When flashing firmware through odin, sometimes there are 3 files to be flashed, and in certain cases only one (pda). Why is that?? I flashed 2.3.4 android using odin with only one .tar file, but now for 2.3.5 there are three files. I live in austria, and I flashed the "official" austrian version. Whats the difference between those versions? I am on austrian tmobile, and i wouldnt like to loose the network settings? Can someone clear this mystery for me, since I am really confused?
Thank you guys in advance!!

hi,
when you have one file, it means it has all been packaged into one and you flash it under the PDA section of odin,
when you have the 3 seperate files you put them into their individual sections in odin.
- Don't select Re-Partition!
hope this helps
Thank you for your reply!
It is definately helping. But, what does it mean the firmware that i flashed is for austria? They released 2.3.4 for many countries... Why does it matter? Whats the difference between this one and firmwares for other countries?

Please don't, even if you have 3 files.
Thanks. Do u maybe know the answer to my previous question?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Official Austrian version is Android 2.3.4 and the XXKI3 for Poland is Android 2.3.5.
So what will happen if I flash the polish version? I am talking about firmwares in general, even the 2.3.4... Why did they separate it that way? Isnt it pretty much the same for all the countries?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
dude,VERY IMPORTANT WARNING what "intratech" has given you.Do not select re-partition unless you are using a pit file. You are not so DO NOT tick this box or you will brick your phone.
Ya i figured that from all those different flashing guides... Thanks though... Do u maybe have an answer to my question about android version for different countries? Would it make any difference if I installed the polish 2.3.5 version on my austrian galaxy s2?

So can I just flash the android version (PDA), and the baseband (Phone), without flashing the CSC?

Yes if you want just flash firmware without CSC or change CSC after .
Or look in that thread for a multi csc or Frankenstein rom to fit .

Root?

I cant seem to find a decent easy way to root that doesn't involve risk of me bricking my device. Can someone point me in the right direction?
I'm running international version, everything stock

There is absolutely no way? It's keep magic all of a sudden after my phone rebooted I can't even get good signal, I was on hspda+
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
Root has nothing to do with signal.
Root is some binaries pushed into system/bin and an apk put in system/app.
Try flashing a new modem and see how that works out.

thanks, or can you point me to how to reflash the original modem again?
The original modem??
Rooting doesn't change the modem so it should still be the same one.
There are a few different ones to try so see which works best for you.
I'm in Ireland on 3 and the LF5 radio is great for me since I flashed it.

Sorry still getting used to the lingo. I picked up the zip flash able for the modem you are referring to. So I can just flash in recovery? No wipe anything? How do it revert back is there is a problem. I'm on XXALF2

Did you download the .zip or the .tar?
Flash the .zip in cwm or if its the .tar one you got then flash it in Odin/mobile Odin.
You can always go back by flashing the original one back again.
I'll post a link for it in a sec once I upload it to drop box.

Yup, modem is baseband.
I posted 3 dropbox links in the post above for 3 different modems.

My current baseband is XXLF2, it's not listed with your links. How can I revert if something happens? Also are they listed in order of release, I'm in the USA if you can recommend one.
Thanks for everything
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
Its the XXALF2 link.
You can try all 3 and see which is best.
XXLF2 was pretty good for me, DXLEA was only OK and XXLF5 works best for ME! YMMV.
try them out, it won't do any harm.
Search for mobile Odin on xda and download it and it makes everything extremely simple.
Just pick the file and mobile Odin does the rest.

Cant see anything relevant from the attached screenshots, so I can't just flash these in recovery one by one?
You can't flash .tar files I'm recovery, they are for Odin only.
Download mobile Odin lite from that page you posted and the flash kernel for I9300 in the 3rd or 4th post.
Otherwise just use Odin on your PC.
You may be able to find .zips to flash in recovery if you search.
Also you could buy Odin pro from play store and it will download flash kernel automatically so all you need to do is open it, select the modem file and hit flash.
Just to be 100% certain, you have the international version right?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Thanks. So all I have to do is browse to the tar file and hit flash. I'm still on the free version.
And this won't affect my phones performance just the radio?
Finally I can revert to everything back by flashing the first link? Thanks

Flashing stockrom from a different country?

Hello, I would like to ask something.
I knew that recently Samsung has released 4.3 update for Samsung Galaxy SIII International Version. The 4.3 update hasn't reach my country yet. I would like to know is it possible for me to flash another country's official frimware? Is there any negative effects?
Meanwhile, if I flash the latest stock rom back to my phone, will it be unrooted?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Yes, you can flash a rom from another country -which includes a modem for another country. If the modem is unsuitable you will lose signal strength or even all connection.
Of course if you flash an unrooted stock rom then your phone will be unrooted, that's the whole point.
Unless you are confident in flashing modems and kernels I would not advise using 4.3 yet -it isn't reliable unless you can replace both.
Thanks for the quick reply
In that case, is it possible to flash just the ROM without the modem/baseband? (SamMobile ROMs come with seperate PDA, Modem)
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
If your current baseband is EMGx or later then yes, you can flash just the rom.
Alright.
Thanks for your help
