I'm not sure if this is the right section for this tablet as I don't know who makes it, I'm looking at getting two of these while they are on offer at £99. The spec seems good for the money, 1.2GHz ARM Cortex A8 Processor , 8Gb internal 512 ram sd card slot, front camera, 1 x USB2, 1 x mini USB, 7" TFT multi touch Capacitive Touchscreen, Android 2.3. Has anyone got one? Thanks. And sorry if this is the wrong section.
Hay I have one on order they are very even priced n reseanable specs for 200 quid tablet at half price
U can root this tablet with superoneclick
Just need xda to open a thread for development as I'm sure there will be a few dev who.might get this as this is a great deal for a mid range tablet
xXx The Best Things Come To Those Who Wait xXx
I'm awaiting delivery of this tablet myself, the only info from a user I have found so far is on slatedroid (Can't post the link as I dont have enough post count here yet), I have posted a snippet below.
"Bought this and expecting it tomorrow (thursday) And boning up on it now for rooting etc..
Time2Touch MC701A
It came today and its fast and robust, Already rooted this tablet using superoneclick, Very happy indeed"
"First I would like to say, Sorry for the late reply.
It came with Android Market on it, when I got it, which works - Shes not had any problems running any Apps which shes downloaded, anyway
and Yes it runs BBC iPlayer with out any problems - so I have seen.
Oh Yes and I got this off their Ebay sellers page:
Ebay Seller for £119.99 at the time."
It looks and sounds like a capable tablet and easy to root with Superoneclick, i'm looking forward to delivery
Have you got this tab yet? Thinking of getting 1 for my daughter but don't want to spend her money on something if it's not good at the basics... does it handle Where's My Water ok? ;-)
The tablet came today and I am very impressed so far, very quick, good screen, good battery from what i've seen so far. It's much faster than what I thought it would be, but then it does have a 1.2Ghz ARM Cortex 8 processor!
Am in the process of setting up right now, not rooted yet but will be, bbc iplayer works but could only get it from an apk online, it didn't appear in the market place, even though i am in the UK??
Great Buy, would recommend

I'm wondering if anyone may be able to help me. I've just ordered one of these and I'm trying to order a memory card for it. The spec says this uses a TF card - is this the same as a micro SD/SDHC card or something completely different.
Sorry if this is a silly question to ask but I'm not the most technical person in the world!
Many thanks.

Is it possible to overclock the HTC Hero's processor to past 528 mhZ? I've heard that it is slightly sluggish and i thought if it is possible, then this might solve the issue
First of all, its sluggish, when many applications an widgets run at the same time, thats ok for a MOBILE PHONE, Mobile phones do not have to be multitasking pros.
But yeah, i asked this myself too yesterday and googled about that, but found no real answer.
So, if theres a way to overclock the Magic's or Dream's CPU it should also be possible for the HERO! MY Hero in a few days in germany
the processor maxes out a 528
if u get it past that ur just damaging it...
just like overclocking a computer
the higher u go the more cooler power u need
mobile phones are not cooling geniuses lol
That doesnt exclude the possibility to overclock a mobile cpu, many people overclocked their HTC Herald CPU, like me from 198MHZ to 250MHZ, and it was perfekt.

But if I remember correctly, just like the Dream/Magic, the Hero CPU runs the same MSM7200a proc. as the Dream/Magic which maxes out at 528Mhz. However, HTC has, for whatever the reason, underclocked them. It runs at 328Mhz max typically on the Dream (& i'm assuming this is the same on Magic).
We Dream/Magic users aren't really overclocking the CPU as much as just clocking it. I forget the exact parameter but in the beginning we just used a terminal command to set the cpu_scaling_freq (or something like that) to the max 528Mhz. Once root is gained on the Hero this should be easily accomplished there from the terminal or an app as well.

The Herald just as my old Hermes ran OMAP processors, pretty easily tweaked.
No one has as of yet discovered a way to overclock a Qualcomm , and they have been round a good year or 2 now.
p.s.. Processors dont max out as such, they just overheat and burn!!!
Fact is, that before trying to do stuff like this you first need to gain root on the Hero.
And indeed like said before: The G1/Magic _underclock_ their CPU to save battery. Only in a few situations will it do it's job at 528mhz, otherwise it's 320-something mhz.
So when a G1/Magic user is telling they 'overclocked' their CPU, they just removed the underclock and it's running at the normal 528mhz for the MS7200.
Really _over_clocking it, by running it at like 650mhz or higher, I didn't see before.
PS: The slugginess is more a RAM and disk i/o thing than directly cpu-related.
thanks for all the info guys. so should i be worried about getting the phone, or do u think it won't be that bad?
No you shouldnt, i am waiting too for my hero to arrive. So can anyone tell, what it means to "root" android? why should i root my hero when i have it and what does it affect? thanks in advice.

First off, we don't know if it's even needed. Maybe it's running on 528mhz already.
Second: You can't. Until the Hero is rooted nothing like this is possible, so getting 'root' access if first step in ANY kind of tweaking.
Ok, thanks. so lets wait till we hold our heroes in our hands to see at what speed it runs and hopefully be able to root the phone.
Have been using my Hero for a few days now - and don't really notice any speed issues that concern me.
Seconded.
I have a Hero and have for a couple of days on Orange, and have no qualms about the speed whatsoever.
HTC say the processor dynamically clocks up to the maximum 528MHz when needed, so unless you want to push it out of spec (if its even possible) - there's no need to set the clock. Leave it be
thats sounds reasuring, thank u for letting me know
to be honest i just bought mine yesterday
and its not terribly slow
ive read bout it and be careful we are talking bout reviewers and most review websites dont know a lot bout half of what the say
slow no
unresponsive no
a bit laggy yes
this phone is brilliant
and is quite speedy considering how much things you got on desktop
for anyone worried about the slow speed of the Hero, the firmware update fixes this. its soooooooooo much faster.
Bump, what spped is hero running on? I have mcr 3.1 installed and since we have root now............
AFAIK, the Hero runs at 528MHz when in use, but underclocks to ~300 when not in use (ie. screen off etc.) Really, in MCR3.1, you shouldn't be needing to overclock- it really flies. If not, did you do a wipe before install?
If not, I strongly recommend you do (back up data first!), as it made mine a lot faster and was worth the hassle!
This is my fifth prime bought the first when it was first released and bought and sold a few more since then I picked one up a few days ago for a crazy price i am now running virtuous prime and performance mode at 1.8 ghz and my galaxy note is still much faster with everything i don't understand this, i think the prime is the best 10 inch tablet i guess i just thought it would be faster when overclocked with a custom rom
for starters wrong section, should've been in QnA section. Second, you could've just posted that in one of the many existing complaint threads.

if you running a custom rom and overclocked it should easily run faster than what you claim. you must not of did something right. I'm stock, rooted, and overclocked n my prime runs circles around my Ipad n phone.
try a different rom and make sure its flashed correctly. virtuous is more of a stock base rom built for stability. you want performance, use AOKP or WSG rom or maybe even new gummy one. lots of different roms to try out. even still, virtuous overclocked should be running great.
OK thanks I will try another room btw my note is rooted running rocket rom lpy so it is not not stock, but it is faster then my current set up on my prime but i will take your advice and try another room thanks
Also remember that different chip setups use different speed tweaks. Are you running a third-party launcher? Any monitoring apps? What kind of widgets? What background services are running? I had virtuous with OC and it was great, but I changed to AOKP with OC and is much faster running the same apps.

Im runnin a custom ICS Rom on my Galaxy S2...Its overclocked at 1.5...And its pretty damn close side by side when I bring up stuff...I too am runnin the Gummy on performance 1.8...But its fast enuff for me...
And I just luv the view of a 10.1 compared to my 4.6 screen on the Epic 4 Touch...
why is my honda civic faster than a 18 wheeler? the 18 wheeler has a much larger engine and a lot more power!
The prime easialy outpowers the note however other things have to come into consideration: What kernel / rom is running on both devices, what device specific optimizations have been made for the specific hardware. What different chipsets, GPU's, screen resolutions, animations, versions of android, etc are there?
There are so many problems with this thread i dont even know where to start. As far as tablets go, the prime has the best HARDWARE. This does not mean, by default, the software will run faster. The same way that 18 wheeler has a much larger and more powerfull engine does not mean it will go faster than my honda civic with its 4 cylinder engine.
My suggestion is go on google and do some research on how android actually works. Learn about the hardware you complain about and maybe you might learn your answer for yourself.
Both are running ics 4.0.3. Both are running adw ex launcher and the same apps don't get me wrong the prime is great I am just surprised that my note loads webpages twice as fast on the same wifi network even on demand at 1400 MHz on the note vs 1800mhz performance on the prime - anyway I was just curious no big deal
lol im not surprised, wifi on the tablet sucks. try loading up some graphic intense games and see which has the fastest loading times. Its no secret the primes wifi sucks try a test that compares other things like the GPU or CPU.
And even if both devices have android 4.0.3 unless its stock google 4.0.3 they have been tweaked in one way or another. load AOSP on each and give er another shot.
just loaded up the gummy v1.2.3 and now it is as about as fast as my note on the internet - of course the prime has more power and gpu but i was more concerned with everyday apps like internet, etc. i currently dont play any games on the prime
i think i wil put an aosp rom on the note and see how it compares - thanks to everyone for their advice
btw i picked up this prime to test out the unlocked bootloader / customs roms, it was pretty scratched up when i bought it used but i put on a zagg screen protector and it covers up all the scratches on the screen and then i bought a nice leather case as well not bad for $100 total !!
Hello there,
I've just had an Archos 80 delivered, its the model with a 1GHz processor and 512 RAM. It was second hand and came with 4.0.26 official firmware. I've managed to install the SDE and put [email protected] on it which is based on 4.0.25 and it seems pretty jerky compared to the official ROM which was nice and smooth.
I'd like to have it rooted and optimized for performance, is there a better ROM which would work better for my low spec version of this tablet? I read another thread that said 4.0.6 is the best, but as I've had 4.0.26 on here, does that mean I can't go back to older versions?
Thanks very much for advice

You can go back or forward to any ICS version if you use a rooted stock version (it will behave as a custom version for all intents and purposes).
Other have also said that 4.0.7 is the best version. I use rooted 4.0.26, and recently had about 800 hours of uptime before I reset to test something.
Best Rom
I have almost the same tablet as you except 1.2 GHz so if you want [email protected] the best is ICS_BLUE.V03. Otherwise the rooted 4.0.26 is good if you don't have a lot of media files, Media Center slows my tablet to a crawl scanning my almost 500 music files. The new Jelly Bean 4.1.2 is going to be best when finished, I have almost no problems at all with it.
Hmm ok so I installed [email protected] and it seems a little better. Is it possible to overclock this processor? Do I just need to copy a different kernel?

The GPS is not very functional on 4.0.26. At least not on my Turbo 16GB that is only a few weeks old. I actually went back to 3.2.80.
I have no issues with the Gps in 4.0.26
This screener is made on my tablet.

It does seem to work most of the time. Sometimes I have to reboot to get it to detect satellites though.
It seems that every 80g9 acts different even its exactly the same tablet with the same specs.
I guess that i am just one of the lucky ones
Yes I am noob, but I would like to learn more, so here I am, long time looker, joining the ranks. I tried searching but all I found was 2-3 year old stuff or non specific answers.
*Edit* CRAP SORRY, saw that questions shouldn't be posted in general. Such a noob move sorry...
I am currently loading old school gaming roms on my phone and soon to be tablet. Years ago I had n64 roms and they were laggy, I figured years later they would run without a hitch, not so much.
Here is what I am running.
Verizon Droid RAZR HD
Micro SD (class 4) 32GB
Snapdragon S4 MSM8960
CPU 1.5 GHz dual-core Krait
GPU Adreno 225
Memory 1GB Dual-channel, 500 MHz LPDDR2 RAM
I am running the standard vanilla rom so it's stock with Verizons bloatware, so I now a bit of lag could rest there.
I am looking to buy a cheaper android tablet that will run Ps1/N64 games without a hitch if possible. I guess what I am wondering is what controls ROM's lag, is it the GPU? Memory? Processor? The ROM/Program itself? I am wondering what hardware (if any) runs these without major issues.
Thanks a ton guys, very happy to help join the ranks. If I missed a thread that covers this please point me in the right direction!
Bump please
Guess I'll try again

In all honesty it is a combination of all the factors you mentioned above. Because mobile processors work on a SoC (System on a Chip) design model if you have a weak CPU all the others components on the chip such as RAM and GPU will be weak as well, likewise a strong CPU will most often be coupled with powerful components increasing performance. That being said emulating games is mainly GPU and some CPU intensive of a task. Also the ROM app itself can be a major factor because the games are not being run on there native optimized hardware (Such as the N64) game performance can surfer, a poorly optimized game emulator will lead to poor playback of emulated games. As far as hardware that runs these without issue my Galaxy S3 and Nexus 10 have ran whatever emulator ROM I throw at them. Also keep in mind some game ROMs just don't work or are poorly optimized so no matter what emulator or hardware you have they will have problems with lag.

Wish I could give you more props for answering that, thanks a ton!!
A few follows ups. Isn't my Razr HD pretty close to the same specs as your S3 (short of yours has 2GB of ram) or now are we talking about the fact that I have the stock bloatware of Verizon?
So something like a Tegra 3 would work perfectly fine correct?
Your last sentence makes me worried. For instance it seems like Golden Eye, Super Smash Bros and Final Final Fantasy 7 all seem to hit small short lag spikes with audio and the N64s hit preformance spikes. It's subtle but enough to be annoying.

You are correct the Razr HD is very close in specs to the US version of my Galaxy S3 apart from the 2GB or RAM, the 2GB of RAM can help performance but won't cause a massive difference in performance. Additionally the Verizon bloat will chew up resources and depending on what other applications you have running the background can take away resources from the emulator. In general carrier bloatware will slow down the entire device making it seem sluggish. Since you mentioned you were looking to get a cheaper Android tablet to play emulated games on I would definitely check out the Nexus 7, it has good gaming performance for emulated games and gaming performance in general. And like I said previously some games will always just lag or have jumps in the audio and can be annoying unfortunately that part of the problem with playing emulated games.

Thank you for the compliment and that is defiantly a good choice, my only piece of advice when buying devices refurbished is ask them if you can try the exact device your gonna buy before you pay for it. I have known several people who have bought refurbished electronics from stores where the guarantee said the device was fully working but when they got home it either didn't power on or something else didn't function properly.

Yup for sure, they have a 15 day return period, so for whatever reason it does not work, I'll return it. I also saw an Amazon review where they were talking about n64/ps1 roms seems to me like the guy got them to work without any lag issues.
I have been holding on and skipping devices that were/are really appealing to me(LG Pro, Oppo, Sony Xperia Z, etc) for the Note 3.
I was going to order the Xperia Z Ultra but thankfully I convinced my self otherwise. I'm not playing many games now days nor using it heavily.
Mostly for above average media consumption, light gaming, browsing.
Also as I said I was waiting for the Note 3 since the day Note 2 was announced I decided to skip a generation.
And thankfully I decided to skip the Note 3 for the Mega. I really wanna go even bigger this time. I don't mind the mid-range performance.
And since my original Note with Asylum 4.3 now feels so incredible(it felt good with custom JB 4.1.2 too), I can only imagine the Mega will blow my mind.
I got the Note 1 at launch and I paid for it quite dearly for it back then.
And today I got my Samsung MEGA(i9200). HOLY MOTHER OF GOD! I'm really in love with this device. The size, the screen, its sound quality are just... amazing!
I can't even remotely begin to explain how I feel about it. This IS really the device that ever wanted. This device in my hand(s) feels like home...
I'm using it for a couple hours now and I can tell you I wouldn't even think about trading it for a Note 3(for free yes as I could sell the Note3 and buy another Mega )
This is really my preferred size of a phone. But I can go down to 6" too if the N4 is released next year and its 5,9-6,0". The best device so far I ever owned.
I also stated that I can go up to 6" when I got my Note in previous post of mine. So I was kinda always wanted a phone this big,
Watched a few trailers, videos clip, youtube videos, listen to many songs. I can say the experience was amazing. I haven't played any games yet tho.
This phone is big. You cannot really how humongous it's unless you light up the screen. The you can understand how huge it is. But it doesn't feel THAT bigger than my Note tbh.
I think that sums things up for me. I haven't felt this excited for a phone since 21 months ago when I got my original Note. Really, really happy owner here.
P.S: I can test/check/confirm anything you guys might want. Like bugs(like dim bug), codes, camera firmware, glitches etc etc. Just let me know. :good:
Edit: I have FM Radio btw and its fully working.
Congrats! Could you run a movie on both Note and Mega and tell us what you think. I am particularly interested in comparing the brightness, and the blacks. And colors. If you could play a high bit rate action movie 720p and compare them smoothness that would be great too. Thanks!

I always compared my previous phones(when its possible to compare them anyway) to my new ones. I always test them with 1080p trailers of excellent quality.
I will do a side by side test with both devices playing various videos(big buck bunny, Sintel, Tekken Blood Vengeance, Hobbit, Avatar, Timescapes etc etc).
But I must be honest, I consider my self a true fan of the AMOLED screens and I love them and I swear by them, so I check the display differences extensively.
I always compare them side by side in:
benchmarks( doing a reboot first and then clearing RAM and closing every possible running up)
screen quality by playing same video with MX at the exact same settings on both devices and also by displaying both the same photo/image.
Camera quality by taking the exact same picture outdoors in qood sunlight conditions and tonight I will test the low light camera quality and view them on my pc.
And obviously the side by side size comparisons. lol.

You will de-virginize(is that even a word) my Mega as you did with my Note...
Update on the battery life:
Its been 7 hours since the first fully charge and 32% remaining. 5 hours screen on time so far with 4h:44m WIFI on time.
Usage was(estimated unless said otherwise):
Around 30-40 Youtube videos(in HD).
Played 10-12 1080p videos I put from the PC for around maybe 20-25 minutes all total time of play time with the MX Player.
Run Antutu 4.0.1(19907) once.
Run 3DMark twice(5474).
Browsed the web with Chrome Beta for around 12 minutes as it say in the stats even tho I feel it was longer than that.
Took around 15 photos some with around 5 being with flash
Also spent a couple of minutes totally just looking at the screen. That thing is huge!

Agreed! Love it!
Update: Rooted today(from here) and updated with XXUAMH1(SILENTLIGHT Rom found here).
This AMH1 release feels and IS faster. I can swear the apps at least feels that open up faster.
In general the phone feels noticeably smoother.
Also my score in 3DMark went from 5147 to 5506. Antutu from 19500 to 20500.
And no, it felt faster all day long. I just run the synthetic test like 15min ago. So I didn't had that in mind to cause a placebo effect or anything.
Congrats koniakki on getting the mega and you are going to enjoy it, i ran Antutu on a stock rom yet, and phone is only rooted at this time and i got a score of 20662..imagine when some custom roms come out for this phone it could have a better score yet..enjoy your new phone.

Thanks for the reply starmaster and welcome to the Mega community too! My best on the Antutu 4.0.1 was around 20500! So well done! :good:
Quadrant was about 7250-7300 my best. Can't remember exactly but was about there. Bring the custom roms/kernels. Our Snappy has a lot of headroom for improvements!
Also starmaster, what I like also is when I compare that score along with the Note 2 or Xperia Z in the Rankings!
Forsure and the scores are very close to those two phones and the mega beats both of those two other phones in the 3D Graphics gaming category i see..now bring on the custom roms. :good:
Edit: I just ran Quadrant on my mega 6.3 and got a score of 8570.

Either your CPU is a racehorse or something is off!! lol!
You got 5000 points more in the CPU score and 2000 points in the I/O score! Did you apply any kind of tweaks? I'm very interested.
No.. i have no tweaks in the phone at all, it is just rooted and that is all, maybe my model i527m is a little different in ways and in the info is says 1.7 GHz cpu and it is a Qualcomm snapdragon and the Adreno 305, maybe i got lucky and got a really good phone..but everything is stock except the rooting part.
Below is a pic of my device info.
And i just re-ran Quadrant again and got even a higher score of 8664..not sure why i am getting these good scores but i like it.

No problem on that..and i hope they get a solution for your i527 mega so that you can root it as that is kinda a bummer that they locked the bootloader on that model for the AT&T version..sooner the better. :good:

Hmm. I re-run the benchmark with all the available Governors/Schedulers combination allowed via CPU Master and I cannot pass 7300 points.
Anyone else with a i9200 Mega can run Quadrant please and post their best score please?
If other members with i9200 get the same as me, maybe we can find why starmaster10 scores are so high and find a way to get that performance too! :good:

or maybe your kernel has tweaks to boost performence or something like that
Here is a pic of my kernel version and baseband version etc, i will see if i can get more info on my device with that app or some others also. :good:
Here are some pics below from CPU Z of the SOC and System page.

no changes the same processor i think its kernel feature or maybe your rom has better performence
I did another run with Quadrant and my score went up again to 8772...I am kinda puzzled on the scores that I am getting.
Not sure if this will make a difference for you guys/gals, do you have any anti-virus program installed as i have not installed a anti-virus program yet...and i most likely will not as i do not go to any of the dodgy sites.

Don't get us wrong starmaster10, we are really happy for you that you get that performance. I hope that yo can even get 9000! :good:
We are just trying to figure out how to get that too and see if a kernel/rom or simply the I527M version of the Mega is just faster or better optimized!
The differences are in the CPU and I/O which are 5000 and 2000 points faster respectively. I hope someone more knowledgeable can enlighten us, since it will benefit us all to make our devices even faster!
P.S: Starmaster10, if not much trouble, can you please post some scores from the latest Antutu from the Play Store? Thanks!
