I have been holding on and skipping devices that were/are really appealing to me(LG Pro, Oppo, Sony Xperia Z, etc) for the Note 3.
I was going to order the Xperia Z Ultra but thankfully I convinced my self otherwise. I'm not playing many games now days nor using it heavily.
Mostly for above average media consumption, light gaming, browsing.
Also as I said I was waiting for the Note 3 since the day Note 2 was announced I decided to skip a generation.
And thankfully I decided to skip the Note 3 for the Mega. I really wanna go even bigger this time. I don't mind the mid-range performance.
And since my original Note with Asylum 4.3 now feels so incredible(it felt good with custom JB 4.1.2 too), I can only imagine the Mega will blow my mind.
I got the Note 1 at launch and I paid for it quite dearly for it back then.
And today I got my Samsung MEGA(i9200). HOLY MOTHER OF GOD! I'm really in love with this device. The size, the screen, its sound quality are just... amazing!
I can't even remotely begin to explain how I feel about it. This IS really the device that ever wanted. This device in my hand(s) feels like home...
I'm using it for a couple hours now and I can tell you I wouldn't even think about trading it for a Note 3(for free yes as I could sell the Note3 and buy another Mega )
This is really my preferred size of a phone. But I can go down to 6" too if the N4 is released next year and its 5,9-6,0". The best device so far I ever owned.
I also stated that I can go up to 6" when I got my Note in previous post of mine. So I was kinda always wanted a phone this big,
Watched a few trailers, videos clip, youtube videos, listen to many songs. I can say the experience was amazing. I haven't played any games yet tho.
This phone is big. You cannot really how humongous it's unless you light up the screen. The you can understand how huge it is. But it doesn't feel THAT bigger than my Note tbh.
I think that sums things up for me. I haven't felt this excited for a phone since 21 months ago when I got my original Note. Really, really happy owner here.
P.S: I can test/check/confirm anything you guys might want. Like bugs(like dim bug), codes, camera firmware, glitches etc etc. Just let me know. :good:
Edit: I have FM Radio btw and its fully working.
Congrats! Could you run a movie on both Note and Mega and tell us what you think. I am particularly interested in comparing the brightness, and the blacks. And colors. If you could play a high bit rate action movie 720p and compare them smoothness that would be great too. Thanks!

I always compared my previous phones(when its possible to compare them anyway) to my new ones. I always test them with 1080p trailers of excellent quality.
I will do a side by side test with both devices playing various videos(big buck bunny, Sintel, Tekken Blood Vengeance, Hobbit, Avatar, Timescapes etc etc).
But I must be honest, I consider my self a true fan of the AMOLED screens and I love them and I swear by them, so I check the display differences extensively.
I always compare them side by side in:
benchmarks( doing a reboot first and then clearing RAM and closing every possible running up)
screen quality by playing same video with MX at the exact same settings on both devices and also by displaying both the same photo/image.
Camera quality by taking the exact same picture outdoors in qood sunlight conditions and tonight I will test the low light camera quality and view them on my pc.
And obviously the side by side size comparisons. lol.
And maybe a few more...

You will de-virginize(is that even a word) my Mega as you did with my Note...
Update on the battery life:
Its been 7 hours since the first fully charge and 32% remaining. 5 hours screen on time so far with 4h:44m WIFI on time.
Usage was(estimated unless said otherwise):
Around 30-40 Youtube videos(in HD).
Played 10-12 1080p videos I put from the PC for around maybe 20-25 minutes all total time of play time with the MX Player.
Run Antutu 4.0.1(19907) once.
Run 3DMark twice(5474).
Browsed the web with Chrome Beta for around 12 minutes as it say in the stats even tho I feel it was longer than that.
Took around 15 photos some with around 5 being with flash
Also spent a couple of minutes totally just looking at the screen. That thing is huge!

Agreed! Love it!
Update: Rooted today(from here) and updated with XXUAMH1(SILENTLIGHT Rom found here).
This AMH1 release feels and IS faster. I can swear the apps at least feels that open up faster.
In general the phone feels noticeably smoother.
Also my score in 3DMark went from 5147 to 5506. Antutu from 19500 to 20500.
And no, it felt faster all day long. I just run the synthetic test like 15min ago. So I didn't had that in mind to cause a placebo effect or anything.
Congrats koniakki on getting the mega and you are going to enjoy it, i ran Antutu on a stock rom yet, and phone is only rooted at this time and i got a score of 20662..imagine when some custom roms come out for this phone it could have a better score yet..enjoy your new phone.

Thanks for the reply starmaster and welcome to the Mega community too! My best on the Antutu 4.0.1 was around 20500! So well done! :good:
Quadrant was about 7250-7300 my best. Can't remember exactly but was about there. Bring the custom roms/kernels. Our Snappy has a lot of headroom for improvements!
Also starmaster, what I like also is when I compare that score along with the Note 2 or Xperia Z in the Rankings!
Forsure and the scores are very close to those two phones and the mega beats both of those two other phones in the 3D Graphics gaming category i see..now bring on the custom roms. :good:
Edit: I just ran Quadrant on my mega 6.3 and got a score of 8570.

Either your CPU is a racehorse or something is off!! lol!
You got 5000 points more in the CPU score and 2000 points in the I/O score! Did you apply any kind of tweaks? I'm very interested.
No.. i have no tweaks in the phone at all, it is just rooted and that is all, maybe my model i527m is a little different in ways and in the info is says 1.7 GHz cpu and it is a Qualcomm snapdragon and the Adreno 305, maybe i got lucky and got a really good phone..but everything is stock except the rooting part.
Below is a pic of my device info.
And i just re-ran Quadrant again and got even a higher score of 8664..not sure why i am getting these good scores but i like it.

No problem on that..and i hope they get a solution for your i527 mega so that you can root it as that is kinda a bummer that they locked the bootloader on that model for the AT&T version..sooner the better. :good:

Hmm. I re-run the benchmark with all the available Governors/Schedulers combination allowed via CPU Master and I cannot pass 7300 points.
Anyone else with a i9200 Mega can run Quadrant please and post their best score please?
If other members with i9200 get the same as me, maybe we can find why starmaster10 scores are so high and find a way to get that performance too! :good:

i am getting about 7200 but i don't know why he getting high score i have searched on wikipedia but i didn't find anything his device use the same cpu and gpu and same speed 1.7 and same ram maybe he can upload screenshot from cpu z app so we know more information about your device
or maybe your kernel has tweaks to boost performence or something like that
Here is a pic of my kernel version and baseband version etc, i will see if i can get more info on my device with that app or some others also. :good:

I did another run with Quadrant and my score went up again to 8772...I am kinda puzzled on the scores that I am getting.

Don't get us wrong starmaster10, we are really happy for you that you get that performance. I hope that yo can even get 9000! :good:
We are just trying to figure out how to get that too and see if a kernel/rom or simply the I527M version of the Mega is just faster or better optimized!
The differences are in the CPU and I/O which are 5000 and 2000 points faster respectively. I hope someone more knowledgeable can enlighten us, since it will benefit us all to make our devices even faster!
P.S: Starmaster10, if not much trouble, can you please post some scores from the latest Antutu from the Play Store? Thanks!

1) Benchmarks are meaningless. The only people who think benchmarks are useful are normally the people who fap off over their benchmark scores. They're simply not any indication of real world performance of the phone.
2) Why not flash each rom & run benchmarks yourself ? Easy to do.

I can easily manipulate the same ROM and Kernel to get whatever Benchmark scores I want without too much difficulty, it would also likely be impossible for anyone to tell I did it other than the fact that my scores would be unbelievably high/low.
Also, some ROMs run better than others on a ROM/kernel combo depending on their ability to handle OC/UV and GPU tweaks, not every handset can handle these things in the same way (I have 2 GT-I9100Ms, one can handle heavy UV while the other doesn't seem to be able to handle any, based on the serial numbers they were manufactured at roughly the same time, possibly the same batch) so what benchmarks well for one person may show awful results for another.
Thank you for your replies. the thing is i dont have S2 any more and waiting for S3. but curious about ROM well samsung rom should have better optimisation of drivers and so on because it's their rom well thats what i think but thats why i posted this to find out. ok so in real life what do you think witch is faster on browsing gaming and so on?
You mean between S2 and S3? Its obvious..
Bout benchmarks, always get higher quadrant on stock, and low on cm9/ aosp. But aosp runs as fast or faster in real life.

I agree here, Touchwiz based ROMs seem to benchmark higher, while AOSP seems smoother in real world situations, I'm sure there are people out there who have the opposite results, so you aren't likely to get a consensus on whether one is better/faster/smoother than the other.

Yeah it is true. You bumped a two month old thread simply to say "That's actually not true. Period.", so let's hear it champ. Tell us why that's the case. Or are you just another benchmark fapper who's FOS ?
I gave up porn a long time ago to masturbate furiously over benchmarks. This has actually had numerous positive effects on both my social life and my sex life.
First, using benchmarks instead of porn allows me to tailor exactly the intensity of fapping I want at that time in a easy, quick and efficient way. No longer do I have to wade through numerous porn videos trying to find that one attractive girl or that one interesting concept to fap to - now I can simply tweak my ROM and Kernel a little bit and get a score which reflects my horniness. Say I'd been camping with my trio of male friends for a week and having to share a tent the entire time, naturally fapping in such a situation would be frowned upon. When I finally get home I would be ready for a really special fap, so maybe I'd tune the scores upto a good 9000 and really crank one out. For everyday use, I use a steady 6000 score. This allows me to really optimize the amount of time I spend fapping per day.
Secondly, exchanging porn for benchmarks has had an extremely positive effect on my Sex life. No more am I staring at Pornstar's penises amazed at their size and wishing I had a similar prowess in bed. No longer am I insecure about sex or constantly wondering whether women actually like getting slapped. Now, when I have sex, I'm thinking one thing and one thing only - a score of 12000 in Quadrant. I am 12000, I am that score, I embody that score, that score is me and it drives me to hump like a God. Indeed, I can attest to the fact that fapping over benchmarks is far better than porn. So I say go OP go, I understand your plight, don't let these meth head unemployed porn addicts ever talk you out of your love of benchmarks, stay strong OP, stay fapping.
Hahahahahaha ;-) That could be the greatest post on XDA. Ever.
I used stock indian rom which was way more scoring than galaxy nexus f1 rom.
Mostly the difference was in i/o score.
Still will show you the stock score with speedmod kernel.

Ha, ha! I just posted a thread about this in the "General" sub forum. I'm running it on both my OG and N7, and I haven't tried any massive games yet on either, but I did notice a significant decrease in just general loading times for things like Facebook, Chrome and the stock launcher on my Nexus 7. Can't tell a difference on my OG, but then, I've never noticed any lag on it either. Maybe if someone could run a benchmark it might give us some additional info.
It makes no difference in Quadrant scores on the LGOG the scores with and without were the same.. I have two friends who are using it on the Nexus 7 that both claim speed increases, as for on my LGOG I have been running it for a couple days and can't really tell if it does anything or not.. This phone already doesn't lag.

I figured as much. The only reason I put it on my OG was because I'd already bought the app in the Play Store (support the devs :good, so figured I'd try it out. Due to the minor security concerns and possible battery issue, I'll probably just disable it until the day comes when I find my phone lagging. Hopfully waaaay in the future.

Not quite. It's still being hotly debated. It's just that XDA is withdrawing their "seal of approval" until this gets settled. It might be placebo, but my Nexus 7 was loading apps noticably faster (in my mind anyway). I'll have to time the loading of some apps later to unscientifically compare. Might run some benchmarks too just for S&G.
Edit: As of right now, it seems that everyone has confirmed it DOES speed up the Nexus 7 and some other devices, but they're still trying to figure out exactly why it works: https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=42265

Well, I'm a daily player with a number of games on my GPad, and for now it has been running everything flawlessly. I'm currently playing Asphalt 8 in high details, and Amazing Spiderman 2 : both are just perfect and beautiful. I expect it will be some time before you find something thaht lags on it.
Have you tried need for speed most wanted on it. Cause that game is very laggy on mine, Rest work fine.

That game was smooth on mine as well.
Though I only had the LG G Pad a few days before returning it (did not like the quality of sound output and the display was blinking - a fault?)
Hope this topic gets more informative. Games are the only thing that is preventing me from buying this tablet. I haven't personally run any benchmark on the device but when I go to gfxbench.com and compare this tablet with other devices is seems like it will have a very short future on gaming. Because not only Galaxy S4 with the same chipset scores higher on the graphical benchmarks but even also Nexus 7 2013 is very much ahead of this tablet.
In the beginning I was going between two tablets; Tab Pro 8.4 and G Pad 8.3 because of Tab Pro's superior screen (everyone was saying G Pad was the dimmest screen they have ever seen). After seing that G Pad has actually better color accuracy and no downsides at all, I wanted to go for G Pad. However benchmarks are really scaring me on the GPU side (I don' care about CPU benchs because they are unreliable however GPU ones are very relistic).
Since I haven't even personally see a G Pad outside of a store I have no chance to run some benchmarks or measure any potential. So, I am trying to understand how even Nexus 7 can do better than G Pad. Could it be that the tests were made from the time of 4.4.2? Could any of you possibly run some tests on CM 11 and latest stock environments to share results? I know Adreno 330 has some technological advantages but it should not be that much better on the Tab Pro 8.4's resolution against G Pad..
Forget synthetic benchmarks, they are just for epeen bragging rights, and a lot of the time they aren't even accurate (see Samsung and HTC faking theirs) what games do you want tested?
I've never cared about benchmarks either and I must say I did not experience any problems with games I threw at LG G Pad.
With that said - and you guys are going to hate me for this - as far as tablet gaming is concerned, nothing beats the iPad. Whatever we may think about Apple's 'walled garden' ecosystem, the variety, the sheer amount of games available there is astounding. And don't get me started on optimization and regular updates to games....
Please understand that I'm not trolling, I've used many various Android tablets and loved them all. But for pure gaming purposes, I'd be hard-pressed to find a better tablet. Sorry.
Nothing to be sorry about, devs go where the money is, the Android ecosystem is different and follows the freemium approach more. You can make more money from less sales on the iStore with a $3 game than more android installs of a freemium game if barely anyone buys the extras.
I don't think that this tablet is a good performer in games.
My friend has a galaxy s3 and in almost every game his framerates and graphics are better than my g pad.
A test sample for me is carX drift (that i really love playing), he is able to run it without any framerate drops on high graphics
while my g pad is running it on low with some framerate drops (if i switch to medium or high graphics it is still playable, but the framerate is sub 25fps)
And on amazing spiderman 2 it is not smooth by any mean, it is just playable (20fps seems to my eyes)

That seems like a problem. I know Google would never let its own device go under a mission impossible so I believe GP Edition of the tablet has either better optimised or newer drivers for GPU. I mean, look at Nexus 7 2013, even it has better performance when it comes to 3d gaming. This device is sold on Goole's vey own web page with Google's name on it. There is no way it should be lagging in games in the Google's own world without even turning 1 year old..
So it is either worse driver or underclocked GPU?
Has anyone tried OCing or using CM 11 since they "may" have better/newer drivers for GPU?
---------- Post added at 03:25 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:20 PM ----------
BTW;
I persdonally don't think GPU benchmarks are inaccurate. We want to see how our devices would treat games and they give us a scientifically equal test environment.. If we were to compare two devices with the same game, two person -side by side- would have to play excatly the same way which is impossible. So consider the 3d benchmarks as playing and measuring a cinematic part of a game..
Of course this idea is valid until some *clever* company starts cheating..
Still, something is not with G Pad's GPU, it can't even beat Galaxy S4..

It depends how you are testing, just running a timed demo on a commercial game would be more accurate than running 3DMark or something along those lines.
Companies have been caught out and basically letting the phone/tablet/whatever run flat out when it detects it's running a benchmark app, which they normally wouldn't do due to heat and battery problems.

You are right. However, Google is not one of those companies. So this tablet -at least- should have gotten on par with the Nexus 7 2013 level (of course with the same software version). Like I said, I have never seen a Google Play Edition of G Pad with my own eyes and never seen a benchmark run on it either.. But I believe if run, the benchmarks should have been at least on par or higher than Nexus 7 2013, depending on S4 Pro and S600 differences. I know Nexus 7 has a special version of S4 Pro and it probably effects the Adreno 320's performance too but still this tablet has an S600 chipset.
If you check gfxbench.com, and compare Nexus 7 2013, Samsung Galaxy Tap Pro 8.4 and G Pad 8.3 to each other you definetely can say G Pad should not result like that (talking about "onscreen" values, the others are just tricky values).
If I may ask, would you mind running some tests on your tablet to see how it is on, onscreen tests on gfx bench (If you are on KitKat of course)?
And also, If someone has some time to run the same benchmark on the CM 11 would be very much welcome and I would be very much thankfull If the results are so different than stock LG software's then we will know that something is wrong on the driver side (outdated/misconfigured etc..)
Edit: bad English

As long as it doesn't cost me money, I am happy to run whatever you want. I'm using stock rooted KitKat, LG launcher, pretty much as standard as it can get.
Let me know what you want me to run and I will do it over the weekend (if I remember :laugh

I guess 2 apps would be more than enough.
One is gfxbench 3.0, after you download (Wi-Fi recommended) and pass the welcome screen just click on "tests" and select everything except "off screen" ones then let it run. It will take like 5 mins. (You may want to try battery life test but it is not necessary)
You can go to gfxbench.com and chose your device to compare with your results. For example my Nexus 4's results are very much same with the web page's but my previous Note 2 was so different.
The other is 3D mark. A cross platform test so we can compare the tablet to any tablet or phone.. Simply run the tests and it will display results side by side.
I know I am asking for too much but please run all tests twice and run them as all other apps are closed. If previous results are significantly lower than seconds then it is a driver or stability issue, if the opposite there is thermal throttle, if they are close enough then those are the results we need to achieve..
Thank you so much for helping. That is too important to me.

Gfxbench done
3dmark done
There does seem to be some thermal throttling going on.

Thanks a lot.
Weird, there is noticible change between two tests. GPU benchmarks should not change that much unless there are thermal issues.
Another thing is the results are higher than gfxbench.com says, obviously 4.4.2 brings some boost over 4.2.2.. This way it is on par or close-enough with Nexus 7 2013.
Thank you again
Just updated with 3d mark, does look a lot like there's thermal throttling going on. The device does get warm under load but I out that down to having a metal back.

Hey guys,
I've been searching for good cheap phone that could last me a whole year. From what I see from ROM threads and YouTube, this device is still pretty active and also is capable of gaming pretty much most of the hardcore game titles like MC5. I don't like the Moto G very much because of its looks and display and camera and pretty much alot of stuff.
Since all of you here are Galaxy SII users, I have a question, is the phone still worth to buy? Is it still good and is this your daily driver? Thank you so much

If you really into hardcore gaming, then go for Moto G (adreno 305) it'll give you a little more fps to play games smoothly. MC5 runs at 30fps on my S2 with occasional dips to 19fps @ high settings. Apart from this , it still holds great potentional to run almost any app you throw at it. Really awesome.
What about the Galaxy SII HD LTE? Specifically the E110S. I know the screen is very low res but is the Snapdragon S3 and Adreno 225 chips capable or better than the Int SII? The phone is okay but the ROM development there is so little. I don't think theres alot of ROM for the E110S too.

The s2 is still a great phone which can handle pretty much all the new games at a decent playable frame rate, especially with a good custom kernel that lets you overclock both the CPU and GPU.
If you're on a budget, then it's one of the cheapest and most capable phones there is. Worth buying IMO.

Have you had good or bad experience here? Can you share with us some? Thanks
CM11 Powered G-Wonder
I'm running an s2 with latest cm11 nightly, and dorimanx v10 kernel.
I've given it just a little overclocking, CPU Max clock to 1400Mhz, GPU Max clock to 400Mhz, and a few other little tweaks here and there with the stweaks app which controls the dorimanx kernel. (SD read-ahead etc)
I was actually playing Modern Combat 5 there when I got the notification for your post, and it was playing very well.
If you want bang for buck, I doubt there's another phone that can be picked up so cheaply that can run the latest games so well. The s2 is still a very capable phone for gaming, and I've had nothing but good experiences with mine. Not got anything bad to say about it really..

Thats super awesome! But 1 more qn, is the RAM enough for all this? 700+ mb of RAM is still kind of in the "low" side in my mind. I heard tons of people wanting to have more RAM than a better CPU for some reasons? OH, and the battery life..
Sent from my S800 China Phone
A gig these days is starting to get on the low side compared to some of the new devices, but it's never actually caused me a problem yet.
Just use greenify to hibernate apps which aren't in use, and 1 gig is enough.
Battery. It may be worth buying a new battery if you're going to use an s2. If the battery is 2 years old then it's probably not up to its best. But I'm using the one that came with my s2 and my battery life seems pretty decent. I'd probably be getting a little more with a new battery though.

Well then a Galaxy will be my next phone. I was thinking if an Xperia V or Galaxy Note but since i prefer Super Amoled screens and good perfomance, Galaxy SII is my choice. Afterall, in Singapore, a Galaxy SII secondhand costs just 90-110 EUR.

I do like the xperia phones, but the only ones I'd want to own are the Z series.
For the price you can pick them up for, I don't think you can beat an S2, especially with a little overclock.

Just abit off topic here. IMO, Xperia Z series has terrible displays. My sis owns a Xperia Z and its colours are so unsaturated. I think they fixed this with the Z2 didn't they?

Hey, what AnTuTu score do you get?
I've watched few clips over youtube, people get ~365k. My tablet barely makes 310k.
Here's my score in the attached images. Any ideas what could cause that issue?
The tablet feels somehow laggish and sluggish while moving around the menus.

from sep 6, this is Korean version 256gb/LTE
Actually it's getting worse.
It just made 290k after few days of using.
However it's strange.
I got 158k at GPU like gomelkiev.
However i've got 50k CPU against 113k.
It's like some power thing, which is strange, because the tablet was on charger while doing the AnTuTu.
I can't find any performance mode toggle like on the phones.

Scores don't matter or mean much. As long as your happy with its performance in use no point getting stressed about numbers
Out of curiosity I ran Antutu and got
438928
132930
170660
80460
54878
I am rooted and have debloated 99 packages, so...
No other tweaks of any kind.
well, I'm using it mainly for darkness rises and it's doing fine. My worries about the low score are because at this point is not certain if it's hardware or software issue. It might be battery optimization as well as thermal issue i.e. heat sink not attached perfectly which may progress at some point.

My score was 367k which I'm pleased with.
I also reliably score around the 365K mark. FYI that essentially identical to my note 10+
Maybe 6gb vs 8gb ram creates big difference?
But can't be 20 percent...

Samsung's Korean devices have funky software and radios to work on their funky cellular networks. There's lots posted on XDA about issues people have had running Korean devices in the U.S. Korean and Chinese devices are generally considered no bueno as imports.
Try putting it in airplane mode with Wi-Fi enabled and running AnTuTu again. My EU LTE version arrives tomorrow and I'll test it for comparison.

I get between 440k and 450k it has to do with a program it comes with game preformance. You have to have that set on preformance. I have the 6gb version btw. I was concerned like you when I first got it, it was doing about the same as my Razer phone 2 which has a 845. Almost sent it back till I found that game preformance thing. Which also brought my 3d mark score from 4700 to 5600. That's also prolly why the guy with the rooted one gets a higher score, because that game preformance thing is removed, which lowers everything to save battery.
Just ran it again got 443259
~430k here (2 runs, pretty consistent).
Concerning the remark above, I froze quite a few things including game performance I believe so might have an influence...

Acutally, you are scoring higher than the guy that is rooted and debloated. With today's softare optimization and hardware it makes me wonder if debloating is even worth it anymore other than not wanting the crap there. Edit: I ran a test for fun and even scored higher than the rooted and debloated guy.
