Hello, I have a problem with my Razr randomly shutdowns. I have an official RSD Retail Brazilian ICS installed. The device is from Rogers Canada but used in Europe. I am the second user, bought it already used. I do not have warranty, if so, I would send it to be repaired but it is not possible.
What have I tried: Wipe the whole device. Wiping the cache. Installed the ICS over the RSD and did not installed any apps but the shutdowns still occured. Pushed the sim card in to the slot, so it does not stick out. I love this device. It is gorgeous, but the shutdowns are really annoying. Please, if you have any advice it is welcomed. Thank you in advance. Bye.
Shutdown noticed.
Yesterday I have noticed, when the device is shutting down, it makes a sound as if the battery was empty (actually it was not, it was 3/4 full), the led flashes red and the phone shutdowns. Any advice is welcomed. Thank you. Bye.
I'd like to think that there is infact a problem with your battery. You can either have it serviced or replace the battery yourself
Thanks for advice.

I consider this possibility, do not have too many options left. Thank you for your advice. Have a nice day. Bye.
Once again I tried to reinstall the firmware, stopped some apps, like SMART actions, sport active and hoped the device would not shutdown, the phone lasted 2 days and then sometimes during this night it shutdown. It looks like I have ran out of options. If I buy a new battery, will the shutdowns stop? Thanks for any reply. Bye.
Shutdown solved.
Just for the record I figure out what the problem with my random shutdown was. The problem was within the Micro sd card. I noticed that some of my files were missing, or had 0 kb on the card, so I tried to use my device without the card and the problem vanished, no reboots in few days. So I reformated the micro sd card and now it is Ok. If you have problem with random shutdowns, try the mentioned above, before you buy a new battery.
- wipe the cache
- install the ICS over the RSD
- after flash, try not to install any apps, to see if some of the apps does not inflict the shutdown
- push the sim card in to the slot, so it does not stick out.
- try the device without using the micro sd, or reformat the sd card
If you do not have warranty, consider buying a new battery or discuss with an expert what can cause this problem.
If the above mentioned does not help and your device is still under warranty, send it to be repaired.
Thanks for reading and have a nice day. Bye.

Shutdowns are back!
Hello everyone,
I thought that formating the sd solved my problem with the random shutdowns. I was wrong, they appeared again. I also tried a different micro sd card, to see, if it was not problem with my card. I realized that the problem was not in the card, but it is in the device it self. Also, I bought a new battery, installed it and thought the problem is gone, but again I was wrong and the shutdonws appeared. I am clueless where the problem might be. If anyone knows, how to solve this, be free to write. Thanks in advance. Have a nice evening. Bye.

Hello,
I'm having the same problem as you. Almost emediate after my phone is restarted it restarts again.
The last couple of days I've tried many options,
installed safestrap, installed a new ROM with Eclipse but it keeps shutting down.
If you find something new, post it here!
I actually think that there is something wrong with the internal memory or something like that, that is causing this shutdowns.
But what is wierd is that when my phone is recovery the shutdowns doesn't happen, what is kind of wierd for a hardware problem...

Hello, I have not tried. Never thought about it. I might give it a try. My current version of the system is: 672.180.350.XT910.Brasil.en.BR.
I will try the original Rogers firmware, has a different kernel.
Thank you very much for the advice .
Have a nice evening. Bye.
The problem with the random restarts sounds like problem with the kernel itself.
I had the same problem when I was with the stock Android 2.3. I tried rooting and installing custom roms but my attempts failed. Then I found a thread in the forum that showed me how to install the OTA ICS Rom. I remember that I used RSD Lite to install this 6.7.2-180_SLC-31_LATAM_SPYDERICSRETBRLA_ServiceCFC_fastboot.xml.zip.
I think that solved my problem.
Maybe my original kernel wasn`t good and after I did that I installed new one with it which helped me.
Hello, so I flashed the firmware from Rogers - GAS_NA_SPYDERICSROGERS_P012 with the newest Kernel - 3.0.8-g35a1af9 [email protected] #1 SMP PREEMPR Tue Jul 24, but unfortunatelly the device shut it self down. I am going to try older firmware. Wanted to ask, if theres a possibility to flash only kernels and basebands on the newest Latam rom or customs roms? Thanks a lot. Have a nice day. Bye.
So far I tried 2 different firmwares and the result is the same - hard shutdown. I realized that on both firmwares was the same kernel 3.0.8. Is there any else Kernel in ICS firmwares or my last option is the gingerbread firmware? Thanks. Bye.
Being in ICS is impossible to go back to GB... Have you tried flashing other FW with RDS lite... Try others FW http://sbf.droid-developers.org/umts_spyder/list.php

Thank you very much for the advice. I already tried to flash new and old LATAM firmwares, but the shutdowns appeared. I am trying MIUI rom with 3.0.8 kernel from LATAM firmware. Have a nice day. Happy New Year to everyone . Bye.
Also custom Rom does not help. Shutdown appeared.
Already tried and flashed these firmwares:
6.7.2-180_SLC-31_LATAM_SPYDERICSRETBRLA_ServiceCFC_fastboot.xml.zip
6.7.2-180_SLC-35_LATAM_SPYDERICSRETBRLA_ServiceCFC_fastboot.xml.zip
6.7.2-180_SLC-35_R02_SIGNLATAM_SPYDERICSROGERS_P012_A012_HWp2b_CFC_fastboot.xml.zip
all have 3.0.8 kernel. Maybe the new JB firmware will solve the problem. If I flash a non LATAM firmware will I brick my device? From what I read on the forums posted on XDA, it is not possible to flash different firmwares, that means I can only flash LATAM firmwares? Thanks for all the suggestions. Have a nice day. Bye.
Can there be a hardware problem with my device? I know that there is nothing wrong with my battery, because I bought a new one and shutdowns still appeared. Thanks. Bye.
My tablet will not write anything to memory, its as if its only saving to RAM, until it is full then has to be rebooted. It boots up and operates fine, I can install/uninstall apps, but after a while services will start to crash and I have to reboot. After reboot the tablet is like it was after the last reboot. All of my changes are gone. I have tried to do a soft reset, to wipe all data from with in the OS, and from the Recovery menu. However it still comes up the same state from a few days ago. It is acting like it is a dumb terminal. Do you have any suggestions?
Edit: I am on R5
Can you try to get aLogcat from the play store and try to post it here if you can?

HI everyone!
I have the same issue. I tried the same solutions than ngarre2, even more I tried to root to install prerooted firm but as you know, root process requires restart and every time that I restart I lose the made steps.
I will try to get the alogcat to post it here and I´ll let you now the release that I have installed.
If someone has any new idea to solve this please help us, pleae share it
restart sony
It happend to me last days, after a restart all the settings on screens were gone. Now I have installed a new Launcher - Go Hd for tablets, locked the screen, backedup the settings and restarted. For the moment the setings are all there. But what causes the problem by sony launcher? Is the firmware? I am on 5a without root.
Hi!
I tried MarioNico´s workaround and I still have the same issue.
Another solution that I tried was install the original OTA trought the stock recovery, and all commands were execute correctly (writing in system1, etc etc etc), but when it finish and restart to run for the first time the upgrade, guess what... I have the older system :crying:
I don´t know what can I do... Please help!!
(my model is SGPT121 and I´m in R4)
Did you tried a factory reset? Why are you on R4 and not on R5? over R4 you have the possibility to root your tab and install a custom rom.
Hi MarioNico,
Yes I did, I already tried a factory reset (trought system options and stack recovery) but after the restart I have the same system than before.
I am still in R4 becouse I can´t upgrade, I tried trought system update and trought the stock recovery with the original OTA, and every step works ok, but when I restart I have the same system again.
About the root, as you know, requires restart, so every time that It restarts I lose the made steps and I have the same system than before.
:crying: :crying: :crying: :crying: I don´t know what else can I do
Thanks in advance for any idea to solve this!!!

It seems like the issue is not caused by the system and the kernel.
Unfortunately it could be the bootloader or other hardware with other firmware built in to it.

Sorry, I haven't been on here in a while. I had a friend, who is a unix engineer, look at the tablet and he said he can see where the file system is corrupt and not able to write anything to which ever folder it writes changes to. He said he could fix it if I had root, but I have R5 and have never had it rooted.
Is it possible to completely wipe the harddrive of everything? Or maybe replace the harddrive?

Sony's tablets do not have hard drives, they have solid-state memory storage. As for completely wiping the memory, I have never attempted doing that. Most likely all you will end up with is an expensive brick. Perhaps you should just send your tablet to Sony for repair.

Sorry I still call solid state hard drives, hard drives. The tablet isn't under warranty any more and I don't want to have to pay Sony to fix it when, I could try and fix it cheaper.

If it is rooted you can reflash the pre-rooted rom.

Technically it isnt even a solid state drive, its just a flash memory (2 little chips on the board)

If it was SSD then the R/W would be instantaneously fast but it is flash memory for a reason.

Still no luck here...anyone else?
Now that there is a root out for my device and firmware level, It still has the same problem...I run the root it says it was successful and after it reboots, its back to how it was before I "rooted"...anyone have any ideas?
Well my phone died..suddenly...itc a big chalenge for you guys here if possible help since it is tricky situation.
Let me start from the beggining, itc a company phone with 16gb memory, fuly encrypted, due to exchange policy.
Yesterday I was reciving e mail when the phone suddenly shutted down, I thought it was baterry, left it on charger. In the morning battery charged 100% and I turned it on, but it comes to the samsung logo and keep restarting (never comes to the point of asking pin). It enters recovery and download mode, what I tried to do I deleted cashe.
There is a note in recovery mode can not mount /data (invalid argument), phone has never been messed or routed, stock all the way.
My question, is there a way to repair it to original state without loosing data (images etc), since it is encrypted is there any way to retrieve these data.
If anybody can help itc You guys.
Thanks....

anyway it hurts..but thank for the help.

Hi guys. I have seen and read through plenty of the same problems regarding the bootloop issue on the forum. I seem to be stuck somewhere different so I post this question. I hope someone can help.
I have a standard S3 I-9305 LTE in South Africa. Not rooted before or any mods. But somehow it started bootlooping a couple of weeks ago. I read and implemented the Recovery Mode- Cleared the cache and then rebooted, and it worked, plenty of times.
But now it has gone into a solid bootloop and i cannot access recovery mode. So read up about Download mode and installed Odin, Kies and the Cf Root file on my PC.
Now when I enter Download mode on the phone, and continue( press Volume Up) after the warning, the device restarts again. This I have done a hundred times and each time removing battery and waiting a couple of minutes. So essentially I cannot get Download mode to function but I do have access to it.
So this I know, this is a software , possible ROM problem, NOT hardware as the device worked perfectly after bootloop issue started.
I did the latest Firmware Upgrade to Android 4.2( i think, i r noob in this) yesterday. This was done on the phone itself under About-check-firmware. The Phone worked fine afterwards but then went into this never ending tormenting bootloop without yielding.
I live far from a proper service centre and I need my phone for work, thus very urgent.
I also have checked if the power button is stuck but it is not.
I am prepared to root the device and install any other ROM, Flash anything that can get me back on.
Any advice please?
Thanks in advance

Sounds like the emmc chip is corrupt or damaged, you may require a new motherboard.
Try plugging your phone into pc before you access download mode, remove the battery before you press volume up.

Hi Boom,
I have seen you have diligently answered many queries, please to be cautious saying it is a motherboard or hardware issue, it makes peoples heart sink before trying other avenues first. But don't get me wrong, the fact that you took the time to answer me makes you my hero. :good: And thanks.
I will try the other option you gave as I know the phone is fine the answer is just a few tries away.
Hi everyone,
This is my problem: yesterday while under charge my phone died. When I tried to reboot it, it just showed the white elephone logo without animation. I tried to reboot few times but nothing. I could access the recovery(TWRP) but it couldn't mount any partition, so I could not do anything like formatting or wiping anything. I tried to connect the phone to my PC and it was recognized, so I also tried to flash the stock rom (many times actually) with no luck... As a side note when I plug it to the power the battery icon shows up, but still with no animation...
Does anyone of you know what could possibly be the problem, or any viable solution?
Although I havent got a solution to your issue, HERE is a very similiar situation someone else had, unfortunately the thread doesnt end offering any solution but perhaps you can PM the OP of the thread and ask if he resolved it and how ? Hope you can get it sorted without having to resort to Elephone warranty support (we all know how bad that is)

Thanks for the reply, I contacted the OP, let's hope he will answer me... I also tried to flash in Firmware upgrade, with no results...
Just to update you, I have ordered a new battery as last hope, but with no results... eMMC fried I suppose. 8 months of life. I regret having bought this phone.

Maybe the partitions gotcorrupted and you just need to repartition the drive, doing a format all on sp flash should work, but you will lose imei and you need to restore it later on. Then simply flash the stock rom for Lite version and done.
