My dell streak 5 had broken charging port and could not get the battery to be charge up. Is the a way to charge the battery usin diy charger of other hp unit? I had tried using htc hd and htc diamond to wire their handset battery connector to the dell battery but just couldnt get it charged up. Dell battery had four connector pin but the rest had 3.. Dell battery also did not show which pin is positive/negative.
Anyone knows how can i charge up the battery using other handphone or power up dell streak using a 3pin battery from nokia or htc?
Thanks
There are stand alone chargers and batteries for sale on eBay. you could also try this universal charger which works fine with the Streak's battery.
StreakSmart shows some other options.

Does it means if i uses a normal charger and hot wire it to the battery it should be able to charge? I am not thinking of buyin accessories for my dell as it is just a spare

Thanks bro. From ur suggestion, i tried with usb cable. I cut the usb cable and sorted the red wire to the outter connectir and blqck wire to the inner connector, it manage to charge the battery from computer usb port. 30min charges ard 60% of the battery. This is amazing! Thanks

try to disconnect your Streak from the charger, pull out his battery and put it back in again, then powering on your Streak. look what happens next,
still nothing? then it's probably fried indeed,
you might want to check the voltage of the cig charger against the voltage recommended for charging the streak. if the charger voltage is significantly higher, odds are you are screwed for good, otherwise maybe you could try recharging the battery with another charger? or even try a new battery
can you state which one you bought so others dont buy it. was it a genuine HTC charger or one that has been modded i.e. pins shorted
And that's the question. Does the Verizon model work well? And by "well," I mean "fast."
I saw a Seido charger in another thread, but there's no way I'm waiting 12 hours for my extended battery to charge.
Thanks in advance for any help!

I use this one http://www.amazon.com/Anker-Multi-Purpose-Universal-Thonderbolt-Revolution/dp/B0058XCV7O
it charges my standard battery in about 2 hours. It even has a usb plug and a micro usb plug so that you can charge your phone while you charge your extra battery. it works with every (android phone) battery i've tried so far. it should work on your extended batteries also. its cheap too!
I've got two of these. Work great!

I also bought the Anker charger but it is a pain to line up the pins each time. I'm terrified I'll short out my expensive batteries!

Thank you. Just bought two for $8.50 total. Hell of a deal!
KORM via the beast known as the Rezound.
Just picked up the Anker charger - beyond happy with it, but I doubt it will last the life of my phone. I was just happy to charge my standard and extended batteries at the same time.
The USB port did not seem to have a full charge pass-through, sort of like charging from a USB adapter in my car. Seems to provide a trickle charge.
Otherwise very happy to have it.
Thanks again guys, for the suggestions.

I have a charger very similar to the one suggested by SamXp. But I got the package deal that comes with a 1500mah battery included, made by HyperCel: (due to the rules I can't post links yet)
The battery was complete garbage IMO, it's not a solid "slab" like the OEM one. The part where the charging pins connect is separate from the cells and pretty much just wrapped in flexible plastic. Definitely not going to trust that in my phone.
I have a question though: I seem to have issues with the touchscreen responsiveness when I'm using USB output charging port. Anyone else seen this? The OEM charger (and my laptop's USB port) don't have this issue. It's annoying because I have to unplug my phone to shut off alarms, answer calls, etc. Does the anker charger have this problem? Could someone who owns one test for me? I've tried with both a generic micro usb cable and the oddly-shaped HTC OEM cable with the same results.

adapter?
is it the original wall charger and the usb data cable.?
i too had a problem with an ordinary usb data cable. it charges so sloow. like 1%/20 minutes.
better use the original accesories if its the original one and defective better return it for replacement.
It's probably a cabel problem. Charging occurs only when pins AC and Ground (1 and 5 AFAIK) are both connected, and often some of the pins stop working. If it's not a kernel of power supply problem (Which it probably isn't), it will be solved by simply changing the cable. Or if the cable works in usb charging, buy a new adapter (Make sure it's 5V before buying).
I had the original charger, then broke it...
I bought an USB to replace that(the connector was messed up)... but that charged slow, and discharge when using...(still on the original charger, but another cable)
For 2 months, I borrowed galaxy chargers, and any other friends with cables like mine, I asked them for the charger...
Then, I decided this must stop! I told my mom to find me a galaxy s charger (she was noob, doesn't know I can charge from non-lg cables)...
She found me one, and all fine...
But, before trying to buy one of those, go to a friend with a charger that fits Optimus one, and try it, if it charges faster, then buy a new charger

Our stock charger uses a wall "adapter" and an usb cable... it charges from usb, but the chargers that have no adapter (you can't remove the usb from it), charge lot better, I recommend using one of those... any samsung charger that "fits" in our phone is better than stock charger
In mine it charges rarely ! i had lg normal charger but it stops charging if i lift the cell nd use it! den took my moms samsung pop charger ..it worked fine for few weeks den again same problem arised :-S

I lost mine. I bought 2 for one deal from ebay (noname cables) and they wont charge 30% during al night. So i told them it's faulty and they sent 2 another one. still no charge so i bought an htc one wich seems a bit better, but still not like the original. My friends lg optimus 3d cable was charged it full from ~70% in about 30 mins. His another htc cable was worked fine.

Yes, but it does so very, VERY slowly and there is no indication on the tablet that it's charging.
Definitely an overnight kind of thing.

Is it enough power from USB port to use for example in-car navigation, at least for 10 hours?
Using car charger shouldn't be a problem at all. The issue is charging via the USB port on your computer which puts out like maybe .5 watts. They make a car charger with the proper end to plug into the charging port.

I brought a USB cable that fits into the power socket on the media pad on ebay. Cable works like a charm and charges similar to using the charger that comes with the media pad.
The charger was less than $10 including worldwide shipping.

Pls give the link to this USB cable. TQ
You will find a lot of them, if you type "mediapad power cable" on ebay search
I also got one of those USB to power cables. Result is 86% to 100% in 54 minutes from laptop USB.
The unit does charge from USB, but that's an overnight thing.

I did the same, only paid half that for a US seller and actually got to me next day.
eBay Listing
I think he bought cable + charger. If it charges as fast as the included charger, then it must be a 2amps charger, and that is a bit more expensive than your average cellphone charger (usually between 0.5amps to 1amps).
If he indeed bought the cable only, then $10 is a bit too expensive. Even at $4 is still too expensive. Probably not enough competition to drive the price down.

is there any way to tell if its charging via usb ...mine has stopped charging with the power supply ..... both power supply and pad being exchanged later today by orange uk ...but it would be handy to know for future reference
cant find a setting for charge via usb like i can on my phone or is it rom specific?
usb charging
With CyanogenMod 10 my springboard charged quite happily via USB. from a regular 500ma USB port it would charge very slowly while in use and only slightly faster with the screen off. On a 2 amp USB charger from my Asus tablet or 2 amp cigarrete lighter -> USB adapter it would charge fairly quickly either way
Then I updated to cm10.1 20130515 and USB charging quit working at all
I performed clear & reset from both the settings menu and TWRP, rolled back to 20130501 but USB charging is still kaput!
HELP???

Can i charge the media 7 tab before charge goes down (before the orange marking) or (before 5 percentage.)

I have noted that the original cable works better.
Guys so I have this dell streak for which my wife left the charger at her sister's house which is very far off and the battery is completely out of charge. I was trying to charge it through USB port and even with Iphone charger by using dell USB cord but it is not charging and not turning on. I have read before that when the battery is flat you cannot charge through USB port. Is there any way around it? Let me know please I cannot use the phone....
you mean when you first connect to usb no sign of live at all? it should show some sign of live after a few seconds connecting to usb port..
Maybe a bit radical but... have you considered tearing apart an old usb cable and connecting it to the battery for a few minutes? Someone else should say if this is a terrible idea or not, but in my (ignorant, maybe?) mind sound like an option (being no other options available, of course)...

That was an issue with the Streak 7 but the 5" has no such issue. If it won't charge via USB then your problem is either a bad battery, bad cable or bad port... it should charge just fine via USB
Sent from my cm_tenderloin using Tapatalk 2
I have been in a similar situation, using a dell battery, cable, and a sufficiently powered usb port, so I wouldn't be so sure about the issue not being also present in the 5 inch model...

More than likely a bad port and or bad battery. But charging is not a known issue with the 5. I've worked on nearly a hundred here in Costa Rica as I'm about the only person here with knowledge of them and discharging to flat zero is a practice I do on each one I service and not charging via USB was only an issue when there was a hardware problem.
