[Q] Battery flat, no wall charger. Help with charging - Streak 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Guys so I have this dell streak for which my wife left the charger at her sister's house which is very far off and the battery is completely out of charge. I was trying to charge it through USB port and even with Iphone charger by using dell USB cord but it is not charging and not turning on. I have read before that when the battery is flat you cannot charge through USB port. Is there any way around it? Let me know please I cannot use the phone....

you mean when you first connect to usb no sign of live at all? it should show some sign of live after a few seconds connecting to usb port..

Maybe a bit radical but... have you considered tearing apart an old usb cable and connecting it to the battery for a few minutes? Someone else should say if this is a terrible idea or not, but in my (ignorant, maybe?) mind sound like an option (being no other options available, of course)...

That was an issue with the Streak 7 but the 5" has no such issue. If it won't charge via USB then your problem is either a bad battery, bad cable or bad port... it should charge just fine via USB

I have been in a similar situation, using a dell battery, cable, and a sufficiently powered usb port, so I wouldn't be so sure about the issue not being also present in the 5 inch model...

More than likely a bad port and or bad battery. But charging is not a known issue with the 5. I've worked on nearly a hundred here in Costa Rica as I'm about the only person here with knowledge of them and discharging to flat zero is a practice I do on each one I service and not charging via USB was only an issue when there was a hardware problem.

[Q] Phone only charges on car charger

I'm having a very serious problem that has just started with my Evo 3D.
I connect my phone to my wall charger before I go to bed. It says it's charging and has the little lightning bolt in the battery. I go to sleep .... when I wake up the phone is completely dead and still connected to my charger. Trying to turn it on is unsuccessful. Connecting it to my computer makes no difference as well. The only way to get it back on and charging normally is to go outside to my truck and connect it to the car charger. Magically it works like normal again.
I notice that when the phone comes back on, the battery is completely drained at 0%. Any ideas what the problem is? I went to sprint about it yesterday and they said if it keeps happening to bring it in which I will be forced to do but I wont have time for at least a few days because of work.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

Phone not charging
by any chance, are you not using the htc oem charger? i have noticed in the past that i have that same issue with some of my friends chargers that arent htc oem. Try a different house charger. Seems the htc ones might put out a little extra juice or something because the off brands and motos say they're charging, but battery keeps dropping

I'm using the home charger that came with the phone BUT a USB cord I bought off monoprice.
The car charger i use is an iPod charger with a usb plug in. I'm using that one with the original USB cord that came with the phone. I didn't even think about using the original cord for charging over night. I'll try that tonight and see how it goes. Will report in the morning.
Is it possible you are using a USB cable designed for data only? Some do not have the charging pins intact, they are meant strictly for data.

It worked for a few months so I cant imagine that being the problem.
But using the original HTC usb cord worked just fine. No more monoprive USB cables for me.

I bought like 3 Blackberry micro USB cables off Ebay. They are the best I have used so far. The cable themselves are wrapped thicker and they are a good length. Much more stout and higher quality than most of the cheapies out there.

Problem Charging any idea whats wrong?

It will charge when its usb to PC but not wall.
Anyone have the problem before and know if its fixable?
Tried 2 different Cables that worked before also will try again when home with official charger.
The wall charger will be the problem most likely since most cells use 500mha to charge and the ATRIX charger uses upto 1000mha the ATRIX wount even recognize a charge cycle with less then 600 mha

S3 USB charging problem

Hi! I'm having issues with my S3 charging via USB using mains. I tried 3rd party cable & original cable, both doesn't seem to work. The screen says its charging but after 30 mins, when went to check, the percentage remains the same. It was only when i switch off the phone that i managed to charge it. Any solution to this?

hmm. tried 2 different 3rd party USB power plug.
My experience so far: with standard charger + cable, this thing charges really slowly! An impatient person might even get the impression it's not charging at all. In fact if I use my S3 while connected to the wall (charging!), the battery will actually discharge instead of charge. Bottom line: plug it in over night, and consider buying extra batteries.
What's wrong with original cable? I'm using my portable hdd microusb cable, works well plugged into Xbox for charging

Mine charge pretty quickly (standard charger + USB cable)
But it does charge slowly if i use USB cable to my PC or laptop
Charging from a PC USB port not designed for charging will be slow as you aren't really getting all the juice you need. Best thing is to charge from the mains. My charger's fuse went the day I got my phone. As luck would have it, my Xperia X10 charger works just fine. So I now use that instead.
I experience almost impossible charging via anyone usb on my PC. I get info from device manager that the running port to my S3 outputs only 96mA, which is quite insufficient for charging. This is the first one smartphone which cannot be charged via USB port. I've had Galaxy Note, Galaxy SII, HTC Desire HD, HD2, etc... everyone is charging quite well from the usb ports... It's annoying...
S3 USB Charging Problem
I still haven't seen an answer here about the issue with S3 Charging via USB.
Mine is charging VERY slowly and it's infuriating. My HTC Desire S charges Via USB fine.
How can I find an official answer/fix from Samsung?
Charging problem should be related to kernel problem. I also encounter this issue before, but after i flashed Persues kernel then the problem fixed.

Sounds plausible. So how do I do that?

[Q] Red x when charging. Help!

Recently I traded my galaxy nexus for a galaxy tab 10.1. But whenever I plug it into a computer or an outlet there's a red x on the battery... it charges reallllly slow. I left it to charge for nine hours from an outlet while turned off, and it went from 5% to 55%. WOW. That's really slow. So I thought that the problem is the cable so I bought a new cable that came with a car adapter. And it worked like a charm in the car. However when I traded I kept the 3 pronged galaxy nexus charger. So anyways I arrived home happy, but I wanted to test it in the computer... Red x again. I tried the wall outlet, again with the x. I tried the wall outlet with 110v and 220v still red x. Then I looked at both outputs on the wall charger and car charger both had the same output which is 5volts and 1A. Then I looked at the input and the car charger was 12-24VDC and the wall outlet was 100-240v and 50Hz and 0.15A. I need help please.
I have 3.2 honeycomb and P7500.
I think that this is an internal issue software wise.
If you need anymore information don't hesitate to ask.
Thanks in advance

On stock settings u wont be able to charge the device connected to ur computer and u will get the Red X on the battery icon! Therez a small tweak to activate that feature to activate charge on pc connect but u will loose the mtp connection. As far as this issue... Seems to be a battery proble. Still try to flash and get to stock to confirm.

What do you mean by loosing mtp? Also I'm a bit noobish at this because I just switched from ios. So can you dumb Down what you said a little. And what do you mean by "still try to flash and to get stock to confirm."
Also my problem is wall charging.

I get that if I try use galaxy nexus charger, however if I charge my galaxy nexus with the tab 10.1 charger I have no problems, make sure your using the correct charger, and for the slow charging I have a USB extension cable if I use that it can take up to 12 hours for a full charge
By charger do you mean cable or outlet?
Sent from my GT-P7500 using xda app-developers app
simplest answer is that the red X means that you're not supplying enough voltage to your tablet. You need 2A (A = Amps), computer USB ports generally do 500mA (1/4 of what you need). Phones usually need less. So the reason your tablet won't charge off the phone charger is because it doesn't supply enough voltage; the phone does fine on the tablet charger because it's just oversupplied (don't worry, your phone won't be damaged by this!)
So what you need is:
1) an original charger for this particular tablet (the cable probably isn't the issue, but I've seen cables that can't transmit the full voltage. The nook color is a good example of this)
2) a 2A charger - can't promise any particular ones work though...
3) (and this is the one you should do): You're on XDA. This is a place for folks who root and install custom ROMs on their devices. Most of the ROMs have USB charging built-in (in the Kernel; don't worry about what that means). Install a custom ROM (I'd suggest AOKP). Problem solved, plus you've increased both performance and functionality of your device exponentially. If you're not willing to do this, XDA probably isn't the place for you anyways.

The outlet , the one for my tab is twice as big as my Gnex one, I guessing they both give out different power, get the official charger!! like I said I can replicate that any time I want by using the tab cable with my Gnex outlet,
Thank you soooo much

I found a solution to a problem that was really vexxxxing me. One of my chargers was working and the other (longer lead) all of a sudden started showing the red cross. Ahhh. The solution (http://www.androidtablets.net/forum...galaxy-tab-10-1-not-charging-brand-new-3.html) was to blow very hard on the 30 pins of the charger and hey presto - started charging again without the red cross.
There are solutions to this problem with quite a few custom ROMs. Task's ICS for example has this patched. I am quite certain there are others.

Slow charging

Hi, my s3 charges very slow. he's charging for about six houres now and he's at 43%...
Could it be the USB cable?
Heeeelp!!!

Check your AC adapter, especially if you're using the travel adapter. If the connection is loose, it will think you're charging with USB. Go to your phone settings and make sure it says "Charging (AC)" and not "Charging (USB)"....unless you ARE charging with USB, then it's supposed to be slow...iono about 6 hours though...

It says AC...
Check..
Are you charging from computer or the power point. Are you using the charger you got with your phone?
I had the same problem with my phone. Turned out it was the USB cable. Got it replaced from Samsung. You might want to check a different USB cable or a different charger. If you are trying a different charger do make sure the output matches with the stock charger. Also have you tried resetting it back to factory default?

Battery charging incredibly slowly even after switching cables
I got the notification to update my I9300 to Jelly Bean yesterday and went ahead with it. The battery lasted an okay enough time, but I left it plugged in using the stock wall charger overnight. After almost 11 hours, it has only gone from 10% to 75% and I've seen it drop a couple of times while I've gone through the settings. Switching to another charger doesn't seem to make a difference and using the CurrentWidget app shows about 999mA all the time. I haven't rooted it or anything, so it has been difficult to find threads with the exact same issue. Is anyone else experiencing something similar? Thanks!

hi there i just got the same problem as you are getting right now im observing my gs3 and found the charging is very slow 1% evry 30mintues and that the condition is the brightness is low wifi and 3g is off i notice this happen just this morning after 24 hour of chargin using the AC charger from the galaxy s2. right now im using usb cable plugin to the wall out let and also tried plug it in to usb port still having slow charging issue my s3 is JB updated and that it is not rooted, before all this issue happen i was using the same usb cable tha im using bow 2days ago and i have no issue i could watch movie while plugin to the usb port or the wall outlet and im still around 94 to 97% charge with full brightness on and wifi and 3g is on, im in singapore and the outlet here is 220v. ill try to check if might be thusb cable is the issue r not.
my problem is the cable. i used my old samsung phone's charger and it worked!
Same here..
Same problem here, the i9300 charged almost nothing through the night. It recognised the charger as AC. After I woke up, I just took the cable out and reinserted it, then it charged way faster the short while before I went to work. I read somewhere that phones with jelly bean installed OTA over gingerbread could have this problem? I can't really say if it's the charger, the cable or the phone that is the culprit. I have previously had a problem with getting the phone to accept my car charger as well..
The cable you use makes a huge difference.
Best to use the original cable, using an old Nokia cable also works fine.
Be ware of 3rd party cables that for some reason dont deliver sufficient juice to the phone and then it charges very slow....
I guess I should add that I used the original cable and charger. I'll come back with a post if I experience more problems.
