Just wondering should I get the Galaxy Nexus which is really nice especially running ICS but I really love my MoPho ...what do you guys think? Should I wait for ICS on my MoPho or get the GN ?
Phone looks awesome but it wont drop until november. And its probably a vzw exclusive for the time being. They didnt comment much on carriers at the release.

There is no freaking way in hell I would do business with Verizon ever again, so that's an easy choice for me.

This. And as far as trying to build out the brand, it was a poor move to put this into the hands of Verizon the same day the Razr was announced. It sucks because of the fact that data is moving into the cloud, access $80 per 5 piece. I'll never go back to Verizon and the MoPho is a device I can stick with for awhile because the communications and GPS functioning on the device is great.

Ummm, probably because he wants some opinions and thoughts to help with his decision!!
im hearing a lot of speculation of sprint getting it mid q1 next year (just in time to announce their first LTE sites) at which point i will be selling my gf's soul to get one

I love everything about the Galaxy Nexus and am really tempted to upgrade. But two things threw me off:
- exclusive to Verizon. What the heck. What happened to the promise to be open and not stick to one carrier? That was just last year when they released the Nexus S!
- Likely to be CDMA only. As a student from Hong Kong that goes back every half year, I need my GSM connectivity on my Photon.
Now that Google bought Motorola, I have high hopes that they will bring ICS to Photon.

the international version is gsm and carrier unlocked, just the same as the previous nexus. if you are on tmo or att that version will work fine
verizon exclusive is only until sprint gets lte set up. sprint just bought a CRAPLOAD of iphones and is subsidzing them at a horrible cost to themselves. once they have the capital and lte networks up i expect to see a sprint version
*cries* Yeah and I wish they hadn't done so now they are so cash strapped it'll be a while before we see improvements around here? :/

I was asking everyone for their opinions just to get some idea of what I should do...I would wait for sprint to get the device because I used to work for Verizon and they are full of **** over there but I am not sure about the devices as a whole...things have been moving really slow over here and I give much thanks and props to the guys that have been developing over here but I am used to flashing at will without all of the problems with 4g wifi etc...I get bored easily so I am already looking for my next device but when I can flash at will it keeps my current device fresh and new for me and I don't get bored with it as fast....if I can get ICS in the next couple of Weeks thru a leak our something I will be good until upgrade time I guess
Motorola is probably working on it but a release of ics won't be until march April maybe.. It won't come overnight but in time...

For example Samsung Infuse released with froyo and Samsung almost forgot about this phone.

i was wondering if some of the devs for this phone if they were going to the note?
I don't know, I'm not a dev, but I doubt it. Seems like more of a niche phone to me, and it has the damn Snapdragon. I hope that the next-gen Exynos's have LTE support- I noticed that even the Tegra 3 is being replaced for the LTE versions of HTC's phones for the Snapdragon S4... yikes.
Is the note carrying Exynos? If not, doubtful.

No, which is why very few developers are likely to touch it. (I assume the OP means the AT&T Note, not the original. The original periodically tempts me, but I've already bought one device off-contract this year.)

No clue - nothing on the market now. However, unless AT&T shapes up and stops mangling their devices, it's almost guaranteed I'll buy the whatever is the latest iPhone with my contract subsidy and immediately eBay it - only because the iSheep love to overpay on eBay. My next device is almost guaranteed to be an international device or the next Nexus.
It's too soon to tell, I think my next upgrade is early 2013.
I'm waiting for windows phone 8, if it fixes the problems I have with it...
HTC One X looks really good... even the AT&T version (with the S4 Krait processor).
Im waiting for the GSIII of course. Samsung and HTC are the only companies that are worthy of my money, but perhaps something awesome will turn up at MWC and make me think twice on that.
Like the LG Vu? Now that is a fine looking.... I cant do it.
On the other hand I also thought the One X looked pretty nice too, looks like they tamed down sense in sense 4. Huawei and ZTE showed some cool phones. And Asus showed the padphone again. If it ever ships that could be cool.
But like entropy, I don't qualify until 2013, so I'm not looking too hard at any of these phones. If something really entices me I might give the 3 warranty replacements in 90 days trick a go.

I just bought the International Galaxy note (coming from the AT&T SGSII obviously) and I love it. I prefered the Exynos processor and the hardware button over the AT&T version. I can't see a quad core in a phone really blowing me out of the water as much as the dual core did. Dual core made everything in Android run very well (especially the Exynos, thank you Samsung) so it works great for me. Not to mention all tablet apps run on the Note with ICS (ex: Photoshop!). Don't think I'll be going down in size, or buying another AT&T version, anytime soon.

I said the same thing for supercurio, existz, and hardcore. Every kernel dev that doesn't give up on its followers will always be a great dev.
Laziness is a powerful thing - sometimes you'll see a good dev go to a device with good development, and be happy with what's there or just popping out patches.
If I had an I9100, I'd probably have just popped patches over to Ninpo until he stopped development.

I said it in another thread and I'll say it again. I have a feeling T-Mobile is holding off on the update so the One S can have the spotlight for another month. They probably figured that people would buy it since Ice Cream Sandwich is a big selling point.

These two tie in together. HTC wants to nail down an update schedule that the One S will have ICS for a while, gathering in sales, while the other phones will have to wait. Also, T-Mobile stores list our phone as 1.5 ghz dual-core, they don't really specify that it's produced by Snapdragon or that it is an S3. Clearly, it would look bad that the One S and the Amaze have the same specs in a simpler manner, without going into specifics.
Some of you folks act like your phone is broke or completely ancient because it isn't rocking the current OS.
There is a leak for ICS, so what is the problem? If you want it so bad, download it and be on your merrily happy way. If not, go spend monies you probably don't have on a device that runs on it. Complaining over and over on something you can't control is beyond rhetorical.
Not like T-Mobile has ever been fast with the updates. This is nothing new......be glad if it comes out in June.

My Amaze (bought in December) has multiple issues that have not been resolved on three separate handsets, and half a dozen factory resets. I'm not "whining" about not getting ICS sooner, I'm whining about not getting FIXES after way too long a wait.
The last word I've heard was, "we're working on a fix," "HTC is aware of the problem," while I continue to wait, and wait, and wait. Like the poor refugees in CASABLANCA
I'm willing to wait longer for solid fixes, and (crosses fingers) a replacement of Sense 3.0 with the much-improved 4.0. Frankly, I've gotten tired of factory resets and handset replacements that flush my progress and scores from games that I've paid for. It's not a requirement that my games are intact on a phone, but jeez, it got old after 12 weeks of ownership of this top-tier phone to be told, "don't install any apps, just use the phone as shipped."
I just feel that I've been made to wait through serial postponements while HTC and T-Mobile trumpet a newer, slightly better line of phones. Clearly, people who've already bought an HTC don't get as much respect or thought than the new customers out there. S'okay, if the ICS update arrives and doesn't fix the problems, I'll know what to do. Root, flash, or flip and get another brand. T'is a pity that modern manufacturers would rather disappoint their established customers while trying to attract new customers. It's a model that has destroyed many companies in the past.

There is usually a product cycle to the big contender phones. Just like every summer, a new EVO is released. You'll find other phones released between these times. But, you never know. They're already developing superphones that are faster than the EVO 4G LTE.
There might be a new Nexus phone announced at Google I/O next week. iPhone 5 in the fall, and probably another round of Android superphones for the holiday season, probably once Samsung/TI/Nvidia launch an LTE baseband that will work with their SoCs.
Well the latest rumors are that Jellybean will be released next week at Google I/O. You can get the new S3 or EVO but if you plan to see Android 4.1 on it anytime soon you are probably in for disappointment. I'd get a Galaxy Nexus or wait for the next Nexus line which should have similar hardware to the latest super phones.

Cool thanks for the responses. Good discussion.
I am anxious to see the new gnex, but I'm thinking it wont have a large enough screen (even tho the specs will be good enough). Other words, I don't think it will be "better" than the S3 per se, other than getting jellybean/pure android...but never know....
Lastly, the responses to this are actually "grown up" for once - you guys were spot on. Thing is, I was expecting much worse reactions as the question could have drawn out all types of trolls.
Hopefully XDA has turned a corner recently...thanks again.
How about the new WP8 phones that are going to come out around October I think. Huge update to the software from what I have read, multiple core, multiple screen res and size support. I would be very interested to see a Nokia WP8 mobile with their 41mp camera, and Nokia maps. That would be pretty amazing. I am itching to see what comes out.

Unfortunately for Sprint, slow data is the only reason I'm leaving...otherwise I'd consider the EVO LTE more seriously.

I have a feeling now that google has their hands on motorola, that they will eventually have a pretty sweet release....more then likely a Nexus. I have a feeling that it'll not be locked down the way it has in the past. Google knows what Android junkies want, and they'd be kinda stupid to not use motorola ideally the way they should. Hopefully it makes it to sprint. Main reason I'm hoping for this is purely for the fact Motorola and Google are AMERICAN companies.

Under $200 off contract will be tough - probably the cheapest top end phone is the Galaxy Nexus at $349 direct from Google. On contract and you should be able to get something like the One series or the Galaxy s3.

$200 isn't a big amount to beat HTC Incredible experience. So, I'd recommend you to hunt down a second-hand smartphone from eBay etc.

It's a hard phone to beat for it's specs. It's just...not quite snappy enough, and the screen isn't quite big enough to be a mini-psuedo-tablet.

How much for the Atrix 2?
I know under $200 is tough, that's why I'm asking - I'm all out of ideas.

I'd be willing to part with it for $150. Box, all cables (charger, HDMI, etc.) everything... PM me if you or anyone is interested. I can also install a leaked ICS version on it as well before shipping.

You can't get them with $200 in pocket...
I have two Nexus S phones that I still love! As long as Google (or Cyanogenmod) keep pushing out the latest updates for them and they run well, I'm going to stick with them. JB on is way more "buttery" on this phone than ICS. It's like a new phone with every update!
Doesn't meet with your screen size requirements... but at least where I live, $200-ish won't get you anything that great without a hefty contract.

PM Sent. Is it on AT&T, or a better network? Also, the state of mods doesn't look that great for the A2, but, if ICS is fully functional+rooted, I don't care too much.

Yes, its on AT&T but I can get it unlocked. There are several GB based roms, both odexed and de-odexed ones. We just saw a leaked update for ICS, so that means we'll see a soak or official release in the next few weeks.

As long as everything works, it's okay by me.
Off-Topic: Would I be able to edit build.prop so I could have tablet ICS on the Atrix 2 without reflashing?

Everything works, and it isn't a refurbished phone. As far as editing the build.prop I'm not sure about that possibility to run tablet ICS. The official ICS release should come soon. The leak we've seen has created some issues that are being worked out. Also, the bootloader is locked which means the inability to flash kernels. Don't know if that's a deal breaker for you or not. There's a dev working on a brute force script to hit the BL with but thats still in the works.

I'd like to flash kernels and non-stock roms, but I can live with just [rooted] ICS. Besides that, I have faith in the more experienced members of this community - we'll have the whole phone someday.
On a side note, you'd think Moto, being owned by Google, would have less-restrictive phones.
