Spoke with *UPPITY* sales clerk behind the AT&T corporate store in the Suburbs of NYC (Long Island, Hicksville) and was told the following:
"What happened to the Galaxy S II, I don't see it on the sales floor anymore?"
"Sorry it's been replaced by the newer, Skyrocket..."
"Didn't the Galaxy S II just get released a few weeks back @ $199 on October 2nd...?"
"Yes, it's obsolete now because the Skyrocket replaces it @ $149 so it's discontinued..."
I couldn't talk, I couldn't stand the way she just stared at me w/ a cavalier, uncaring look on her face when I exclaimed my displeasure that my brand new Galaxy S II was *DISCONTINUED*...
"Blah blah blah ... I'll be happy to refund the phone for you minus the $35 restocking fee...blah blah blah"
I'm upset at her ATTITUDE she showed, not at the Samsung Galaxy SII.. The Skyrocket is BIGGER, LAGGY and slightly FUZZIER display when compared to my S II SGH-I777 due to the 4.5 SUPERAMOLED screen. No FM radio BUT it does have Visual Voicemail as a built in app...
I ***GLAD*** I picked up my SHG-I777 when I did otherwise, it would be too late. Hopefully this salesclerk is off her rocker when she suggests that the SGH-I777 has been discontinued for any FENCE SITTERS out there... ??!???
My personal TAKE on WHY AT&T dropped the SGH-I777 are two:
1. it's because they don't want to take heat for the HPSA+ vs. 4G (LTE) radio that wasn't on the SGH-I777. Also I played with it on display and I *LOVE* my SLIM S II vs. the Skyrocket
2. Confusion on Joe and Jane public walking into the store, "Look honey, there's the new galaxy Sii for $199 no it's over here called the Skyrocket and it's $50 CHEAPER at $149..." (No TYPO, that's $149.00...)
BTW - I also saw the OTHER LTE phone the HTC (Sorry don't remember the Model # exactly) BUT it does have an ON BOARD FM tuner and HD screen very VERY sharp gives the iphone a better run for the money and I *think* it might be a slightly better display than the SGH-I777
Whew what a mouthful! At any rate, still LOVING and ROCKIN' my SGH-I777 don't have any regrets or buyer's remorse... Hopefully this will be a helpful read for one or two people out there...
HTC
I think the clerk was b.s.'ing you because the corporate store here still had S2 for sale and they claimed they will continue to sell it for some time to come. I agree about the HTC Vivid screen, it was quite nice.
I was told by Best Buy manager today that they pulled the OGSGS2 from the stores
I originally wanted to test out the Skyrocket till my 30days is up and then choose to go back to the OGSGS2, so I had to ask them if they are available...but he said they are being pulled
This might not be the case with AT&T Stores
Their removing it in select lte markets so they can sell more of the skyrocket, don't get the skyrocket horrible battery life and horrible processor

Actually sad about this.
If not many original ASGS2 are sold and no talented developer works on "reoriented" kernels like for Captivate, our ROM choice would be very limited.
It's actually ridiculous to officially discontinue a 1 month old phone, even quicker than HP Touchpad...
its even on the site they may just take it out the store but we will have to see over the next week i really don't see it going anywhere anytime soon
Both phones are showing up on the site, and the Skyrocket is $50 more.
However, a number of leaked documents indicate that to try and push the ****rocket despite it being an inferior expensive device, they are discounting it by $100 and eliminating the I777 in LTE markets.
It may depend on the market it's being sold.
Where are you guys located?
yeah, i posted a thread on this about the phone being removed from LTE market AT&T corporate stores, but instead of opinions, everyone gave me heat about it.
but i guess it's bc i'm new and have no credit on anything i say yet, idk. lol
sucks though, but i still have my OGSGS2. i love it. you're right about the skyrocket, bit laggy.
but i do have a vivid, and i personally think its a good device, but i still find myself with my OGSGS2 alot more

there are rumors that it may happen soon
Well if the minimium wage associate with three hours of product training said it's discontinued than it must be.
I am a store manager for at&t in Jax FL, and I can assure you that it has not been discontinued. As a matter of fact, one of the memos that we got state that the skyrocket should be able to compliment the galaxy s 2 sales. The sgs2 is one of at&ts best sellers, and there is nothing slated for discontinuation. Any info anyone receives of the contrary, is b/s. Can we please put this rumor to bed now! Mid October, a report came out that Samsung sold 30mil gs2s in 15 days.

I work for a corporate AT&T in South Florida and we actually just received another shipment of the OGSII. We're not an LTE market yet, but for what it's worth we haven't received any notification that they're discontinuing the SGII. She probably just made that up.

At last, voices of reason. Thanks guys for speaking up. Hopefully the Skyrocket will get its own forum soon so these endless threads with nothing but hearsay will have a home to call their own.
he's not in a LTE market. i'm specifically speaking of that, not everywhere.
the stores vary.
here in the LTE market, we didn't even have the OGSGS2 in store, everyone who wanted it had to order it.
I think it was said that it's temporarily discontinued in LTE markets to boost Skyrocket sales. Odd but that's what I was told in the couple stores by me.
Oh well, I got my OSGSII from Best Buy for $99. And I hopefully will get a $100 BB gift card for reward points

Hi Barry,
Voice of reason, *finally*?!?? Really, did I sound hysterical, was I not reasonable when I created my OP...? I paraphrased my ENTIRE conversation that took place when I walked into my LOCAL corporate AT&T store in Hicksville, NY (516) 935-7770. I was only asking about my current unlimited data plan and also wanted to see the new Skyrocket...
Would you like to know the reason why I bothered to asked the clerk about the SGH-I777this in the first place..., it's because I couldn't find it!!!!
I found the Android section with only 4 Android phones (Skyrocket, HTC, and two others but NO Samsung SGH-I777, so I had to ask...
Yoneilio - As an AT&T store manager, please contact Rob at the corporate AT&T store here in Hicksville, NY because he'll tell you just like I was told by the young sales girl that the SGH-I777 has been pulled...
*MAYBE* it's just this store policy if I had *KNOWN* in advance the reaction I was going to get, I wiould have asked for more specific details:
Is it pulled from this store only?
Long Island
or NYC metro area?
Believe me I will find out now, you guys just made it my *** Voice of Reason***...
For the record, I only posted this up here to find out the reaction and to see if this was local or not, I'm glad that Yoneilio spoke up at an AT&T rep and states that this isn't the case! Yoneilio when you call Rob, speak some sense into him and ask him WHY this is being pulled and how IRRATE the folks here are on the forum!!!
@ Giantenemybird - This goes for you too, since you're also an AT&T employee, see if you can get the skinny from Rob, too *IF* you can call long distance from FL to NY...
MANY MANY thanks to both of you both for your help in ADVANCE!!!!
I'm here in Forest Hill Queens and the AT&T store by me still has the OG GS2 in stock. I checked the store in Time Square and they also have them in stock.
Boston, LTE market. Have both in stock but the skyrocket is $249.

Glad to know that so far, it seems to be isolated to only Hicksville...
SUWON, South Korea (Reuters) - Samsung Electronics Co plans to sell a variation of its flagship Galaxy S4 smartphone that will transmit data at nearly twice the normal speed, the head of its mobile business said on Monday.
J.K. Shin, also co-chief executive of the world's biggest technology firm by revenue, said the phone would be sold in South Korea as early as this month.
Samsung was in talks with several overseas carriers to take the phone, Shin told Reuters in an interview at Samsung's headquarters in Suwon, just south of Seoul. He declined to name the carriers.
"We'll be the first with the commercial launch of the advanced 4G version of the smartphone," Shin said.
The new S4 will use LTE-Advanced 4G technology, an upgrade from conventional 4G called LTE, or long term evolution. LTE-Advanced offers data transmission at up to twice the normal 4G speed. The phones will be powered by Qualcomm chips.
A movie download that takes 3 minutes with conventional 4G would take slightly more than 1 minute, Samsung said.
Samsung's shares have lost almost $20 billion since June 7 after analysts cut forecasts for Galaxy S4 sales by as much as 30 percent on industry data that showed the high-end smartphone market was getting saturated.
The same problem is hitting sales of the iPhone 5, made by Samsung rival Apple Inc.
Samsung's market capitalization is still a hefty $195 billion. Its shares closed down 0.2 percent on Monday.
Shin showed little concern about sales prospects for the S4, which hit stores in late April. The mobile devices division is the company's biggest profit generator.
"S4 sales remain strong. It's selling far stronger than the (Galaxy) S III ... and the new LTE-Advanced (4G) phone will be another addition to our high-end segment offerings that ensure healthy profit margins," Shin said.
Shin declined to provide forecasts for S4 sales. He said the new S4 would be slightly more expensive than the current one.
The South Korean firm hopes the addition of hardware offerings such as faster data transmission, along with its widely anticipated move to introduce models with unbreakable or flexible displays, will help it protect margin growth.
"As operators seek to provide more data-centric mobile services, I think this will become mainstream 4G technology globally in the coming years," Shin said.
Shin also said sales of Samsung's tablet products in the U.S. market jumped 3.3 times since it installed brand shops within Best Buy's stores in April, and is now considering expanding the format in Latin America and Britain. Samsung declined to name potential retailers.
EYES ON NETWORK BUSINESS
Having conquered the smartphone market that Apple virtually created with the iconic iPhone in 2007, Samsung is seeking to do the same in the network business with the booming 4G mobile equipment market, challenging bigger rivals such as Ericsson, China's Huawei and Nokia Siemens Networks.
Many countries need to upgrade mobile base stations to handle not just 3G but also 4G, or build them from scratch to support 4G connections.
Shin said the network gear market was one of Samsung's fastest growing businesses, mainly thanks to 4G equipment sales which had been rising more than 30 percent a year since 2010.
The new phone would help this part of Samsung's business, he said.
"Such technology leadership will set the pace for the competition and help us become a major player in the network gear market," Shin said.
Samsung has won some 4G network deals from all major South Korean carriers, U.S. Sprint Nextel Corp and Japan's KDDI Corp and Hutchison Whampoa's British unit, but it needs to crack China to close the gap with traditional vendors in the overall gear equipment market.
Shin said there had not been much progress in Samsung's push to penetrate China's 4G equipment market yet, but it was increasing investment in the country.
China's three mobile operators - China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom - plan to spend a combined 345 billion yuan ($56.3 billion) this year on network upgrades. That includes investment in 4G, which multiplies mobile broadband speeds by up to five times for users of iPhone and Galaxy phones compared with 3G.
Many analysts believe Huawei and ZTE Corp - already big suppliers of China Mobile since only 10-15 percent of 3G network contracts went to foreign vendors - will be winners, leaving others to fight for smaller bits of the pie.
Samsung hopes to show Chinese clients that 4G networks with new technology can be built faster and with lower operating costs.
Not to hate, but standard 4G still isn't completely commonplace yet.
Not sure if i should go after this or the note.

The GOT edition might be cool- if a 32GB version for Verizon
Samsung is being savvy with the S4 "LTE Advanced" edition, since that is an understatement in name. The Snap 800 is the newer fabrication process that runs cooler for cpu, gpu and the data radios. The Snap dual and 600 are the same fabrication and basic design family. The Snap 800 is the start of their new family. Seems deceiving calling it what they are. The Snap 600 to 800 is a bigger overall hardware jump than the Snap dual to the 600.
Perhaps S4 Big Kahuna, or S4 Mega are better and more relative names.

I must agree..I say it is an intentional ploy to get more of our money.
Yea if they actually do come out with another they are trying to get more of our money and its just outrageous that they would purposely do such a thing.
Thoughts? Look at the pricing and availability towards the bottom of the page.
Says October 11th and $498. Seems like the legit Samsung site.
http://www.samsung.com/sg/news/local/samsung-gear-s-and-gear-circle-enhances-the-smart-wearable-experience
Is that only a Singapore date?
That's what I'm wondering, either way gives me hope of a US October release. Personally I'd like to grab my 4 and Gear S at the same time, like I did last year with my Note 3, Gear and Note 10.1 2014 in one purchase, made for an overwhelmingly good, fun night lol. But I'd like to kick start my Note 4 with a Gear S attached to it.
that`s about what $400 US?
No idea, I'd pay it though! Just need some US info, I'm more excited about the watch than any other device right now.
As much as I want one. I need to see a full review with a production model.

Eh, most product reviews are usually by idiots in my opinion that have no idea what they are looking at, I realized this last year with the Gear 1, people are still referencing uneducated early reviews about the Gear 1 when talking about the Gear S, I'm still using my Gear 1 that was "so horrible on battery" lol and its awesome on battery.
The reviewers usually know much less than we but occasionally proved useful information.
We still need to know full specs and capabilities.
Agreed, I'm a huge fan of reviews and unboxing videos prior to a purchase but I take them with a grain of salt and worst case scenario I just most stores return policy.
I find it odd that this watch is released before the Note 4 or Edge.
Based upon the leaked Australian pricing, the Gear S USA would be around $375. My guess is they round that to $350 which would make it about $15 a month on a 2 year non-binding agreement or maybe $100 on a 2 year contract.
Finally read the give print on the att site and got an idea of how they plan to set up the gear s. Figured I'd share for any that didn't know.

I think that is a bit misleading. If the watch is 3G and has a sim card, you will be able to receive SMS directly without a cell phone. I think what they are trying to say is that you will be able to add your Gear S to an existing Smartphone Contract but you won't be able to have the Gear S as your only phone.
We'll see. A lot of confusing info out there. Would be nice of them to just give a for sale date and price though.

That includes VAT and of course everything always costs more in England. We also don't know if that site is gouging people or not. My guess is $350 USD.
Lol I'm just getting frustrated with the mobile carriers and Samsung, Samsung did this last year with the Note 10.1 2014 all hush hush until a week before it's for sale, stupid move in my opinion especially for high end expensive products, if someone doesn't make a lot of money and they try to save they don't know how much or for how long, or if they are really in the market for something (ie; like me with a tablet last year, I really wanted the new note 10.1 but had to wait almost two months for just a release date, and I almost bought a different non Samsung tablet instead, luckily for Samsung and myself I held out) but to think that most people can just drop $4-500 on a watch or $7-800 on a tablet on their next paycheck like that, is just stupid and is what's killing their first week sales. I've had my Note 4, VR and especially my Gear S money sitting in a jar just piling up since IFA I've probably accumulated double what everything will cost, but then again I'm not sure lol, I'm sure I'll find out 3 days before it's time to finally get one and hopefully I have enough, or still want it.
I'm not sure who, Samsung or the cell companies, lol but for Christ sakes give people time to plan and not string them along for months with not even a rough estimate of price or what were in for as far as if it's another monthly phone charge. We're 25% through October and still nothing, I'm all about Samsung products so I'll hold out, but how many people do you think won't? And Samsung wonders why their profits are down 40 something percent since last year. Hate to say it, because I hate Apple as a whole, but they were shipping a week after announcing, hit em while it's hot, Samsung yet again announces and let's the oven cool, most people would of scooped this off the shelves soon after IFA because of all the buzz, wait two months and hear nothing about it again most people will move on and probably grab a Moto 360 or something, so Samsung is just hurting themselves.
I personally am not the type who gets more excited over months of anticipation, I get annoyed and frustrated, but I swear by Samsung products, how about the people who don't? That are willing to try them out over the new iPhone, but weren't willing to wait forever and just say screw it and grab the iPhone? There's your numbers Samsung, there's your profits.
I wish they'd Stop trying to beat Apple and worry about stealing their users, it won't happen, they're brainwashed and are not worried about specs or bang for their buck, spoke could release the iTurd and those kids would ready it up, so worry about the people who are diehard Samsung fans, they keep the lights on, I've personally converted about 5 iPhone users to Samsung s5's and Note 3's and will continue to do so.
If they keep us happy, we'll do more marketing then any reviewer or competitive release date will.
Lol so let's get some friggin' info already.
Side note (no pun intended):
I fear the day Samsung stops making removable backs with swappable batteries and micro sd card slots! they did it on the alpha, which I almost considered picking up to have as a side phone to my Note 4 until I saw no expandable memory, next goes the removable back and then we got an android (or Tizen) iPhone which is the opposite of what I want in a smartphone. I honestly won't buy a phone that I can't remove the battery or especially doesn't have expandable memory. The only ones really complaining about the plastic are people that use iPhones and don't plan to buy a Samsung anyways, 3 Notes deep, 4th in a few weeks and I've never had a problem with the plastic. We don't want iPhones Samsung, and iPhone users don't want anything besides an iPhone.
Nice!!!!
The at&t site has full specs up but no release date yet. We know that it'll be a "connected device" meaning $10/mo on mobile share plans & I'm guessing you'll have you have a phone on the plan even if you don't want it. The samsung ppl hinted that the calling/sms features will be tied into GVoice but that's just conjecture. It sounds like it'll either have something to do with hangouts, or an app on your phone that forwards everything to the watch under certain conditions.
I'm not saying i know, just guessing based on all the bits on info I've been given by the 2 companies. I'm wondering how it'll be added to grandfathered family plans, if at all.
But can we just use it like we use the 1st gear and gear 2 connected via Bluetooth?

Hi guys,
This thread belongs to any discussion from our ever growing community of Samsung users from NZ to celebrate the new SGN-7.
I had my prying eyes on this device since its launch on 3rd August at 3.30 am and was hell bent on getting it. Was a bit impatient though with all the wait of 16 days until it got released. Those days were spent mainly searching for a good pre-order plan from either of our popular network providers - which were quite tempting. I wanted a Blue Coral one to begin with but since it was limited to some regions in the globe (Pretty sad that our bottom island wasn't one of them!), I finally ended getting the premium Black Onyx.
Its beautifully carved and gives a good aesthetic feel in the hands. Everyone knows what it has in store but the first look is remarkable.
Waiting for your reviews!!!!
Did any of you guys got the recall pack?
I got mine last night. It had a complimentary Samsung J5, sim adapter, a form to fill in and a prepaid courier bag addressed to Samsung, Northcote. Last time when I spoke to a rep, she told me the new devices should be in within 3 weeks.
Boo!
Just picked up my replacement from Spark now. The J5 was ok, but this is way better. Happy again
Just a heads up for Spark customer waiting for replacement Note 7 , I just been to the LynnMall Newlynn branch tonight and found out that they now got on stock replacement Note7s although they are not selling it yet to new customer. The spark sale person can't tell me when it will be relaunched in NZ. Hopefully this will be happening in the next couple of weeks!

Yup recalled again, Note 7 discontinued for good. I exchanged mine for an iPhone 7 Plus yesterday. Dad went with an s7 edge. Sad story really.

Samsung Galaxy Note 7 to be cut off from all New Zealand carriers starting November 18th means means any of the smartphones that have not already been returned to Samsung or its distributors will no longer be able to be used to make calls, send texts or connect to mobile broadband.

"The company teamed up with carriers in New Zealand to announce Friday that it will cut off access to wireless networks for customers still using their Galaxy Note 7 devices. Starting November 18, customers still using the Note 7 will no longer be able to connect to any New Zealand mobile network to make calls, use data or send SMS messages."

The Galaxy Note 8 is being released here in Japan on the 26 of October (this month). :good:
I'll be getting it, and I'm looking forward to getting involved again with this community.
(Has anyone with the Maple Gold color been disappointed for any reason? I've reserved that color, because I thought it looked really nice on other phone models with rounder curved edge screens, but in the store the Note 8 didn't quite have the same look in Maple Gold because the screen edge is less curved. I'm not sure if I'll switch to black at the last minute. I also don't know how the gold will match cases and such..)

The gold is nice. But when I look straight down at the screen, the tiny edge of the gold appears around the edge of the glass, which to me made it feel a little smaller or framed. The black blends in more so it looks like the glass itself. So I changed my mind at the last minute.

Go and check it out. It's a beautiful phone. It's my first new phone in a long time. (I'm coming from a Note 2! Android has really come along nicely.) I also got the Samsung S View Cover from Yodabashi Camera in Ichikawa.
I had forgotten how good Yodabashi Camera is for phone accessories. At the time the DoCoMo store didn't have any Note 8 cases, and my nearest Yamada Denki only had a few. Yodabashi Camera has loads of Note 8 cases, but they keep the Samsung branded ones behind the counter.
Edit: Just saw you updated your post. Yes, I couldn't buy the phone outright. I have a regular 24 month contract and expect to pay in the region of possibly Y11,000 a month for everything. That's including 5Gig data, etc. which is enough for me. My Note 2 was pretty much the same per month at the time.

It was released on Thursday the 26th of October, 2017. I picked mine up on the 27th from a DoCoMo store in the Moto Yawata area.

I use line mobile.
I pay 2,790y/m for 5gb calling and text.
I could probably drop down to 2gb and pay even less. Data used with certain apps like Line doesn't count to your data.
You might get slightly better signal using a Japan model but very slight.

Thinking about it and just checked my usage. No need for 5gb. Just went down to 3gb.
Plan is now 2,260y/m (forgot to mention that's with voicemail too.)
Can't beat it..
What model is your Docomo Note 8?

The 64 GB version.
(Remembering that I'm now 49 years old, so I'm not as technically ambitious as I used to be.)

You have more time for other things ?
I meant model number. As in SG-9xxx. Or something like that for docomo
The model number (in Japan) is SC-01K. I'm not sure what that's equivalent to.
