Hello @ all,
some users requested a tutorial and a list of the junk apps for the new firmware.
So I post it for you
How to delete the junk apps:
Go into "system/app" with Root Explorer, in that folder are all the junk apps. Now press "Mount R/W". Now you can delete the junk apps one by one or multi-select them. To have a backup of the apps, we move them to the sd card. it's good to make a folder called "2.1.A.0.435 Junk Apps" on your sd card.
Now select the apps, press move and go to the sd card and to the folder "2.1.A.0.435 Junk Apps" now press paste. Done.
List of the junk apps:
- backupandrestore.apk (Titanium Backup is better)
- chinesetextinput.apk (chinese keyboard)
- creatouch-wvga.apk (creatouch app)
- facebook.apk (download the new version with chat from the market)
- FaceRecognition.apk (Face Recognition is still working after removing the app)
- JapaneseIME.apk (japanes keyboard)
- LatinIME.apk (android keyboard, I prefer the one from se)
- LearningClient.apk (learns your words, not needed)
- moxiermail.apk (Moxier)
- Music.apk (we can't use it, Visualization Live Wallpapers won't work anymore after removing this, thanks to Farhang for the info)
- neoreader.apk (Barcode Scanner is better)
- officesuite.apk (I don't needed, heard there better offices in the Market)
- OMAClientProvisioning.apk (-)
- PcCompanion.apk (wants to install Pc Compnaion when connecting to USB)
- playnowappinstaller.apk (belongs to Play Now)
- playnowback.apk (belongsPlay Now)
- playnowclient.apk (belongs to Play Now)
- qcsemcservice.apk (-)
- quadrapop.apk (Quadrapop, there are better games)
- SemcCheckin.apk (-)
- SemcHomeL.apk (Home Launcher, only deleted it, when you have another launcher installed!!)
- SEMCSetupWizard.apk (sets the phone after an update, you just need it once)
- SEMCTouchPalKoreanQWERTY.apk (korean keyboard)
- SetupWizard.apk (belongs to SEMCSetupWizard.apk)
- SnsContactImageCacheProvider.apk (-)
- Timescape, following apps belong to Timescape:

- TimeScapeProvider.apk
- touchnote.apk (the postcard app, who needs that )
- usersupport.apk (usersupport)
- uWlopProvider.apk (-)
- wisepilot.apk (I use google navigation)
Update:
Sync, these 3 files: (By removing these 3 files you get 10.3MB more free RAM)
- OmaDatasyncService.apk
- Sync.apk
- SyncWizard.apk
Sim Tool Kit:
- Stk.apk
Update:
- AlarmClock.apk (Alarm, I'm using an alarm that can play my mp3 songs.)
- trackid.apk (TrackID, Soundhound is better)
I've deleted all these apps and now my X10 is faster and smoother.

@ Farhang:
Thanks for the info, didn't know and notice that. I added the info to the first post.
I had tried 'freezing' Semccheckin.apk with TBackup previously and after that my Market refused to work anymore. It basically went to FC hell.
Better leave that one alone

That is one of the things I remove after a clean flash, never caused me issues.
Market is just temperamental, lots of things can make it stop working lol

Market is still working for me. If it would brick something, I'd post it or wouldn't post the app at all.

I know that
I'm just narrating the behavior I've observed on my own phone, YMMV. No amount of cleaning caches and reboots helped, it still routinely crashed on boot and more times subsequently as the system tried to start the market service. And also crashed instantly when I attempted to launch it on my own.
The FC's and crashes stopped the moment I restored that *specific* service. Perhaps it was something with my phone I suppose.

You can just download the zip and put a launcher of your choice in it Not that hard to do
As far as lite roms go, you will never find something that pleases everyone.
I would say remove all the samsung apps/hubs and stuff like touchwizz, and from there you can have people remove stuff with titanium.
The villen 1.4 lite rom was almost prefect for me, just finish removing the samsung stuff.

the 1.4 Lite is still my ROM. Its very perfect for me.
now i wish someone could make the Lite 2.0 with the same procedure as 1.4
May be the Lite Rom from cTrox is made the same way? i just have to install Launcher Pro? anyone tried the rom from cTrox?
This is actually a very good idea, but maybe we should make a Google plus circle, so we can chat with one another?
I took some apk files from old ke3 and copied to new 2.3.4, and resailt was a more lagfree Tom. Not home ATM. But post later which files.
About Home Launchers,
Lite ROM's should in my opinion always have data/app so you can choose your own launcher at the very least, this should also make a few people scratch their heads as they flash a Rom that does zilch because they did not add in their own personal Launcher.
I agree with you on LauncherPro its my favourite as well. But once you go into the direction of lite stuff users tend to be very specific about their favourite launchers.
Just two cents, I'm curious on other peoples ideas on this.
And a Launcher does not need to be on system partition.

But what is MMM_Smartphone_1.5.1_final.apk ?
And @DruNKfuX Once you have deleted and not replaced the launcher in system, you will facepalm yourself, for now it seems you have not tried doing this yet.
Am I correct in this observation?
I will ad more colouring tomorrow, from my own Lite version and look at cTrox's
Thinking about adding another colour to differentiate apps that work fine from Data and Apps that Should Be in Data for a better overal lite experience for more users.
My only issue with not adding a launcher to /system/app is that you can't do a factory reset. You have to wipe then reinstall the rom.

@McCune
Okay I looked up the files to be removed for clockpackage.
I did the whole install clockpage to System set alarm, then remove and move clockpackage to Data, get force close, clean that up and install manually and then it worked correctly
As in if you would like to move the clockpagage to data you could get force closes.
In that case you would need to delete up
data/dalvik-cache/[email protected]@[email protected]
data/data/com.sec.android.appclockpackage/
And yes battery is doing good on KG1

Unlike sense, getting back the default lockscreen is not a case of just removing "HTCLockScreen.apk" in the original framework-res.apk from samsung some graphics of the android lockscreen where not included.

It FC's when you just install the APK, it needs to be put into the App dir.

rev1.0.0.07 Added a bit more (As in i'm hunting down the app responsible for showing *#1234# "CSC Info" & adding in the missing parts)
@Pulser well it's installed to Data/app through flashing, but even not flashing it and installing it manually will let clockpackage work this way. I have now rechecked it three times with the cleaning up I wrote besides clockpackage.
Oeps, unless you where referring to the camera
EDIT:
DataCreate.apk I have removed this without FC's but it is at least needed to check CSC settings so these two look related.

As far as I've heard, yes freezing has the same effect with the added+ that it keeps the last known state/settings.cache for those parts.
removing just gives you a bit more space on System partition, making everything 0.0001% faster.
Given that space is not really an issue on the GS2, is there any benefit to removing apps completely as opposed to just freezing in Titanium? That way mistakes are more easily rectified.
Just moved to the evo 3d from a nexus s. LOVE the speed.
Well, Im rooted and deleting junk with root explorer and I keep losing the app shortcuts on the lock screen! What are the files that I accidentally delete that could cause this? When I reboot, I only have the lockscreen ring-no apps to pull into it. Any help is appreciated and if anyone were to have a complete list of stuff that I can remove...that would be much appreciated. Thanks a lot!

When I reboot, I only have the lockscreen ring-no apps to pull into it. Any help is appreciated and if anyone were to have a complete list of stuff that I can remove...that would be much appreciated. Thanks a lot!

Since you are rooted, and it seems that you would like a sense ROM w/ out all the junk in it, I would recommend CleanROm 3.0.P1 Basic stock look and feel along w/ some tweaks for speed and efficiency. Plus all the CIQ is already removed..
This is XDA and there are a lot of ROMS to choose from. Personally I would take the time out and check out the threads in the DEV section and make a choice from there
Attention: You are required to have root, to delete most of these apps. All apps removed are suited to my and other users in the community's needs, with these apps removed/frozen the phone still functions to our needs. It may be that you need to replace some apps with others (launcher, wallpapers, gallery, SmartTags etc..) so please delete responsibly!
Keyboards (I think this is the chinese and japanese keyboards):
- Woody 1.0
- Sakura 1.0
- POBoxTouch (japanese keyboard as far as i know)
General apps:
-Home Screen Tips
-Help
-Friends' games & applications
-All Facebook apps
-Books (I think this came in .67?)
-Playstation
-Video Unlimited
-Music Unlimited
-McAfee
-WisePilot
-Weather Widget
-Shownearby
-Music player
-Office suite
-Playnow
-Downloads
-Recommended
-Google +
-Timescape
-Talk
-News & weather
-Music & video's
can also be deleted:
- xperia smarttags
- video player
- video editor
- update center (if you do the flash updating)
- tv app
- tags (not approved!!)
- google maps
- google street view
- FBIAooShare.apk (some other facebook crap)
- remote control service (not approved!!)
- calculator
- market feedback agent
- gallery (safe but you should have another pic viewer instead)
- ant radio / ant wireless / anthalservice
with another launcher you can delete xperia home
Live Wallpapers:
I think all of them are safe to remove...I've only removed Earth, But the Flow ones are connected to the theme selector, so be careful(!)
Timescape:
It can be removed! but there are other components you need to remove as well, thank you reptile64 for writing a developer on it. I will quote his post with the additional components Below.

I got response from a developer from Sony about Timescape:
In order to remove Timescape the following apk would be needed to be removed:
EventStream.apk, EventStreamPlugin...apk, SocialPane...apk, There might be different version of the apk in the actual software, so I can't really mention the exact apk name here.
Also once this is done, you can also locate the actual packages in data/data and remove them from there.
Other than these apk's you can also remove any plugins installed for timescape on your device, these might be downloaded from market or sideloaded by you.

Notice: The current apps Removed/Frozen are apps that are useless to me and other contributors to this list, always remember to back up all of your apps (I recommend Titanium Backup Pro) in the chance that you may need something! Delete responsibly and please use common sense when deleting!
If you know of more, please post them, and I will update this post.
Enjoy!
Talk - on X10 I believe it used to cause problems with market, you could not download apps. Is there a problem here?
Well I just did a few test market downloads, and it seemed to have worked just fine. I will watch it though.
You can safely remove ANT
What is ANT anywho?

It is used with a lot of exercise equipment like heart rate monitors and stuff (kinda like Nike+). If you have a compatible device or use compatible stuff in the gym then you might want it for Endomondo or MyTracks. Otherwise, you can get rid.

Thank you for the list. Always a bit tricky to delete some things, for some reason sometimes a small app is linked to something important, so this list is very helpfull.

I let this thread die because I thought no one was interested.
Fantastic to see it back up again I will update my original post with the additions.
Would be great if there were a list telling wish apk-name matches the app in the phone? Almost impossible to find them all?
For example
Which app is - com.google.zxing.client.android.apk
and which title corresponds to xperias soccer-app?

If you use Titanium Backup, usually there's an icon next to the app, even the full name of the app most of the time. It shows to me as "Barcode Scanner" and not Zxing.
I would love to provide a full list, but sadly I don't have the time to itemize the entire default app list by filename. Someone else is welcome to do it and of course I will update the first post with names, but with Titanium backup and it's naming conventions, I don't find it even necessary unless you are modifying a stock rom.
This is a list of all apps I have in my \system\app folder. I have deleted ealier few apps (those you can uninstall without root). Is that what you wanted? Also bear in mind, I am on Generic NL .73 software, which is considered having less bloatware.

This is a good start but it would be even better if there were column beside every apk telling whitch icon it is in the phone.
When removing from flashtool all you get is the name listed above but you dont know witch one it is in the phone since the names are´nt the same...
For example - how should i know that:
com.google.zxing.client.android.apk in flashtool is Barcode scanner in the phone. Now that i know its much easier the renove the barcode scanner if i dont want it?

Titanium Backup.
Hello, this applies to the 4.03 ICS leak for i717UCLC5. My objectives:
1. Provide user choice: Remove applications that can be easily installed from Market.
2. Keep the OS stable: core OS functionality should not be modified so as to cause the occasional force close or odd behavior of applications because of missing dependencies.
3. Keep core OS functionality intact: do not remove apk's that will affect the expected functioning of the OS (broken menus).
There was alot of bloat and through trial/error/research online I have narrowed down the “important” applications within /system/app/ to the following list and generally removing any of these could break something. I did leave a couple of applications that I found useful and that could be hard to replace or not worth the effort of replacing (calculator). This is what my system/app looks like:
Code:
AxT9IME
ApplicationsProvider
BackUpRestoreConfirmation
BadgeProvider
bdservice
Bluetooth
BluetoothAvrcp
Callsettings
Camera
CertInstaller
ChromeBookMarksSyncAdapter (Will be testing removal, might break bookmark sync with Google) Apr 23 2012
ClipBoardSaveService
Clockpackage
Contacts
ContactsProvider
CSC
Datacreate
DefaultContainerService
Divx (Will be testing removal, might might break video playback) Apr 23 2012
Dlna (could be removed... but why)
DrmProvider
EdmVpnServices
Email
Exchange
Facelock
Gallery3D (If removed will break lockscreen wallpaper)
GoogleBackupTransport
GoogleCalendarSyncAdapter
GoogleContactsSyncAdapter
GoogleLoginService
GoogleServicesFramework
GoogleTTS
HTMLViewer (Will be testing removal) Apr 23 2012
InputEventApp
LiveWallpapers (could be removed... but why)

Update Apr 20: Added SecPhone back into the list; without it you can not bring up the WCDMA/LTE/GSM band preferences menu.
Update Apr 21:
Removed- BluetoothTest, GoogleFeedback, minimode-res, GooglePartnerSetup
LOL...Why not list what you removed instead?
Would be a shorter list.
I think this a list of mandatory apps for basic functionality of the phone.
Just listing the ones removed would make it a list of bloat
No one cares about bloat.
:thumbup::beer:
i717 running Seraphim pre-release Collective ICS with tapatalk2
Right... But the system comes with all the bloat. So you have to eliminate the apks. Skipping the ones listed and deleting the others.
Seems backward. A list of safe to remove bloat seems simpler... Ionno
Hey this is xda!
What do you expect? Make everything easy for everybody?
I like the list the way it is.
As a matter of fact. I have a request!
I am interested in googlepartnersetup.apk
I have not examined it or anything but I have been curious as to what it dose and is it trully NEEDED.
I removed it from seraphim due to a deodex issue with it and didn't see any impack of its non presents.
Zero what can you determined about it?

I removed it 2 days ago and so far so good. I still need to do a factory reset cause sometimes things break on a factory reset. I'll let you know in a couple of days.
