Hello @ all,
some users requested a tutorial and a list of the junk apps for the new firmware.
So I post it for you
How to delete the junk apps:
Go into "system/app" with Root Explorer, in that folder are all the junk apps. Now press "Mount R/W". Now you can delete the junk apps one by one or multi-select them. To have a backup of the apps, we move them to the sd card. it's good to make a folder called "2.1.A.0.435 Junk Apps" on your sd card.
Now select the apps, press move and go to the sd card and to the folder "2.1.A.0.435 Junk Apps" now press paste. Done.
List of the junk apps:
- backupandrestore.apk (Titanium Backup is better)
- chinesetextinput.apk (chinese keyboard)
- creatouch-wvga.apk (creatouch app)
- facebook.apk (download the new version with chat from the market)
- FaceRecognition.apk (Face Recognition is still working after removing the app)
- JapaneseIME.apk (japanes keyboard)
- LatinIME.apk (android keyboard, I prefer the one from se)
- LearningClient.apk (learns your words, not needed)
- moxiermail.apk (Moxier)
- Music.apk (we can't use it, Visualization Live Wallpapers won't work anymore after removing this, thanks to Farhang for the info)
- neoreader.apk (Barcode Scanner is better)
- officesuite.apk (I don't needed, heard there better offices in the Market)
- OMAClientProvisioning.apk (-)
- PcCompanion.apk (wants to install Pc Compnaion when connecting to USB)
- playnowappinstaller.apk (belongs to Play Now)

- qcsemcservice.apk (-)
- quadrapop.apk (Quadrapop, there are better games)
- SemcCheckin.apk (-)
- SemcHomeL.apk (Home Launcher, only deleted it, when you have another launcher installed!!)
- SEMCSetupWizard.apk (sets the phone after an update, you just need it once)
- SEMCTouchPalKoreanQWERTY.apk (korean keyboard)
- SetupWizard.apk (belongs to SEMCSetupWizard.apk)

- TimeScapeProvider.apk
- touchnote.apk (the postcard app, who needs that )
- usersupport.apk (usersupport)

Update:
Sync, these 3 files: (By removing these 3 files you get 10.3MB more free RAM)
- OmaDatasyncService.apk
- Sync.apk
- SyncWizard.apk
Sim Tool Kit:
- Stk.apk
Update:
- AlarmClock.apk (Alarm, I'm using an alarm that can play my mp3 songs.)

@ Farhang:
Thanks for the info, didn't know and notice that. I added the info to the first post.
I had tried 'freezing' Semccheckin.apk with TBackup previously and after that my Market refused to work anymore. It basically went to FC hell.
Better leave that one alone

That is one of the things I remove after a clean flash, never caused me issues.
Market is just temperamental, lots of things can make it stop working lol

Market is still working for me. If it would brick something, I'd post it or wouldn't post the app at all.

SemcCheckin and qcsemcservice.apk are both for sending crashing info to Sony Ericsson servers and have nothing to do with the Market.

I know that
I'm just narrating the behavior I've observed on my own phone, YMMV. No amount of cleaning caches and reboots helped, it still routinely crashed on boot and more times subsequently as the system tried to start the market service. And also crashed instantly when I attempted to launch it on my own.
The FC's and crashes stopped the moment I restored that *specific* service. Perhaps it was something with my phone I suppose.

Blue sparks has seen this problem in v5 with market, weather to do with ROM directly or not - there is info regarding this on the v.05 info / OP
Hope that helps!
what program you use to uninstall the APPs?
Root Explorer
I've searched xda and couldn't find anything and I don't know if this is the right area for this, but Is it possible to remove the shortcuts from the sense 3.0 lockscreen? I like the lockscreen because it takes up so little space but the shortcuts can be an eye sore imo. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
These are the reason why I don't like the new sense lock screen, those shortcuts are horrendous.
I did some more searching and found an apk for it. I can't post links yet I don't think but search the thread title basically. Install with root explorer change permissions and reboot. Looks good!

Still getting the empty bubbles, though..
If you can hold out a bit longer, it appears Sense 3.5 has the option to disable the shortcuts on the lock screen.
If you want to check it out, search Bamf soab. (port of Bliss with sense 3.5)
I got it!
- Extract Idlescreen_Base.apk from /System/App
- Open the file in m10editor.exe
- decompile Lockscreen_shortcut.m10
- in the editor tab expand the last item and you'll see Lockscreen_Shortcut, highlight it and under Known Properties set parameter Visible = 0.
- save the file
- sign the .apk and put it somewhere on your SD-card
Open /system/app with Root Explorer or ES File Explorer, delete the Idlescreen_base.apk
Install YOUR Idlescreen_base.apk with your file explorer and restart your phone.
Voila!
(Creds to dased14 here )
EDIT: Guess you could bake it in your ROM-file and flash the ROM..Never tried it though..
EDIT2: You may have to copy your modded .apk to /system/app after you've installed it.
Okay guys, let's band together with our cleaning and moving experiences.

You can just download the zip and put a launcher of your choice in it Not that hard to do
As far as lite roms go, you will never find something that pleases everyone.
I would say remove all the samsung apps/hubs and stuff like touchwizz, and from there you can have people remove stuff with titanium.
The villen 1.4 lite rom was almost prefect for me, just finish removing the samsung stuff.

the 1.4 Lite is still my ROM. Its very perfect for me.
now i wish someone could make the Lite 2.0 with the same procedure as 1.4
May be the Lite Rom from cTrox is made the same way? i just have to install Launcher Pro? anyone tried the rom from cTrox?
This is actually a very good idea, but maybe we should make a Google plus circle, so we can chat with one another?
I took some apk files from old ke3 and copied to new 2.3.4, and resailt was a more lagfree Tom. Not home ATM. But post later which files.
About Home Launchers,
Lite ROM's should in my opinion always have data/app so you can choose your own launcher at the very least, this should also make a few people scratch their heads as they flash a Rom that does zilch because they did not add in their own personal Launcher.
I agree with you on LauncherPro its my favourite as well. But once you go into the direction of lite stuff users tend to be very specific about their favourite launchers.
Just two cents, I'm curious on other peoples ideas on this.
And a Launcher does not need to be on system partition.

But what is MMM_Smartphone_1.5.1_final.apk ?
And @DruNKfuX Once you have deleted and not replaced the launcher in system, you will facepalm yourself, for now it seems you have not tried doing this yet.
Am I correct in this observation?
I will ad more colouring tomorrow, from my own Lite version and look at cTrox's
Thinking about adding another colour to differentiate apps that work fine from Data and Apps that Should Be in Data for a better overal lite experience for more users.
My only issue with not adding a launcher to /system/app is that you can't do a factory reset. You have to wipe then reinstall the rom.

Okay I looked up the files to be removed for clockpackage.
I did the whole install clockpage to System set alarm, then remove and move clockpackage to Data, get force close, clean that up and install manually and then it worked correctly
As in if you would like to move the clockpagage to data you could get force closes.
In that case you would need to delete up
data/dalvik-cache/[email protected]@[email protected]
data/data/com.sec.android.appclockpackage/
And yes battery is doing good on KG1

It FC's when you just install the APK, it needs to be put into the App dir.

As far as I've heard, yes freezing has the same effect with the added+ that it keeps the last known state/settings.cache for those parts.
removing just gives you a bit more space on System partition, making everything 0.0001% faster.
Given that space is not really an issue on the GS2, is there any benefit to removing apps completely as opposed to just freezing in Titanium? That way mistakes are more easily rectified.
I have a question about some removed apps from a Gingerbread os. I can't seem to find any real Detailed info on these 8 files below. I want to know what each one is what it does and if they rely on others to be installed, and mostly do they need to be/should they be installed:
Dun.apk
FactoryTest.apk
InputEventApp.apk
JobManager.apk
KeyBoardSlideUpCounter.apk - (self-explanatory, but why?)
Keytracer.apk
Icdtest.apk
SlateTest.apk
I'm actually using a Mod that has all of these removed (shown below), but I'm really only concerned about the 8 above, and the bold ones more importantly. Full List:
Android_Boost-Hookt.apk
BooksPhone.apk
Camera.apk
Dun.apk
Email.apk
FactoryTest.apk
Gallery3D.apk
GenieWidget.apk
Gmail.apk
GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk
InputEventApp.apk
JobManager.apk
KeyBoardSlideUpCounter.apk
Keytracer.apk
Launcher2.apk
Layar.apk
lcdtest.apk
LiveWallpapers.apk
LiveWallpapersPicker.apk
MagicSmokeWallpapers.apk
Maps.apk
Music.apk
Poynt.apk
Protips.apk
scvngr.apk
SlateTest.apk
SoundRecorder.apk
Street.apk
Swype.apk
Talk.apk
talkback_2.6.0.apk
TeleNav.apk
ThinkFree.apk
VisualizationWallpapers.apk
VoiceDialer.apk
VoiceSearch.apk
VpnServices.apk
WlanTest.apk
YouTube.apk
I figured this would be the site to ask this question, can't seem to find the info anywhere. If anyone can explain to me in detail all-about the 8 I listed above, would be much appreciated.
~Thanks

Yes that is an absolute help to me. Thankyou.
Since you did not include a description for InputEventApp.apk I am guessing you don't have a definition for it.
Thankyou.

Why does android want to count our no . of times keyboard comes out?
And does it only count the stock keyboard? Does SwiftKey, swipe and other 3rd party keyboard being counted?
While setting out to clean up my ROM install, I was curious how small I could make it. I usually delete a ton of these after install, but that's getting old. So I wanted to see out of the 400 apks that come on the phone, how many could I axe? Between my experience in uninstalling these, and googling around, and realizing that for some reason a huge chunk of these cannot be found via googling... I decided to make to this list.
If you can identify any of the blue ones, or confirm whether some of those with unconfirmed status can safely be axed or not...I'd appreciate it.

Disclaimer
As is always the case, while I am not out to lie to you, I am not responsible for your removal of any of these apps from your phone. If it causes you to need to restore from backup, or re-install a ROM, that is tragic, but your responsibility. If you do find due to an update or another app you install/use you should not have deleted one... please let me know, and I will update this list accordingly.
I have removed just about every single file on this entire list, including all the ones you have in red marked as not safe to delete... and no ill effects on my device at all.
There are also a few htc/sense related files in /system/lib that I have removed, but I can't remember the file names off the top of my head. I'll see if I can figure it out and I'll post which of those I removed as well.
com.htc.idlescreen_SN.apk - Lockscreen
idlescreen_photo.apk - Lockscreen
IdleScreen_Stock.apk - Lockscreen
IdleScreen_Weather.apk - Lockscreen
verizonWave.apk
These are safe to delete.
I always remove epst. I recall hearing about it being used for some kind of tracking. Never had any problems after uninstalling it though.
The DFPI.apk stands for Demoflo package installer.
I beleive is there so you can install some sort of demonstration recovery for the phone.
Which I think is obviously useless for us.
I always remove it before flashing.
This is a great post for all to use and try. May I suggest this be Stickied/Pinned as this is could ba a project for just anyone who isn't afraid to reflash a ROM to determine what can and cannot be removed.
how about filepicker.apk?

I have frozen EPST with Titanium before. I didn't know exactly what it did... but it always seemed to be running, and I could never see any benefit. I was told by Scott not to remove it... and he knows way more than I do.
The other ones in Red are really if you still want sense. You can remove virtually all HTC files if you desense it... but that really isn't the point of this, because there's scripts and tools if you want to de-sense it... this is really about trimming down while still keeping using sense.
Thanks everyone so far, I'm updating these per your posts now.

I don't see that in the CleanROM zip, but I could have deleted it without realizing.
Is that one from the stock (pre cleaning/optimizing)?
hmmmm. i thought TrimIt.apk was the app that allows you to clip photos /short video from video recordings....

Could be... I always remove both because I never use either.
Trim it is used to make ringtones from the mp3's loaded into the HTC media player.
Nice list though, might be removing some of the extra apks in the de sense util when I get a chance

I also think this should be Pinned. I was looking for the old list of freezable apps we used back when we had temp root to clean out some of the bloat in the current rom. This is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks OP.
Awesome thread. Thanks!
Guys,
Have any of you deleted or frozen the majority of these apk's and seen a substantial battery life increase?

Only freezing or deleteing the ones actually running could gain you battery life. Otherwise they just sit on your phone taking up space. Also, I've never not removed the majority of these since I rooted my Incredible. I've never ran fully stock Rezound (maybe for a few hours the day I got it, lol).
Once I get somewhat farther (I've gotten a list of all the stock ones too I'll add later today) I may start marking some of them as background processes that disabling would free up memory (and theoretically gain battery life).
In the mean time, just check in a process explorer for running ones and if you don't use those and they're safe to delete, go for it.
Is the HTC Sync apk named differently in ICS? I'm on ineffabilis and it's not named HTCSync.apk - it's something different.
