WTF Happened?? - HTC Rezound

My battery went from 70% to 0 in a matter of seconds? See screenshots below.
My only guess right now is the battery is not calibrated correctly and was displaying the incorrect % to begin with...?
I was on my phone browsing the forums on XDA app as well as reading some stuff on the internet, put it down to go to sleep. Luckily my GF's alarm goes off to wake me up and realize i'm running late to work cause my phone has died and my alarm hasn't gone off....

Are you charging on the stock charger? Personally it looks like you have a bad battery but it could be the charger. Oh and there really isn't a battery calibration on these li-ion batteries. Sometimes the software may be a % point off but not like the old days of doing all sorts of craziness to get Android and/or the battery to work properly.

That has happened to me when I killed all apps in Task Manager. Battery Monitor Widget didn't update properly and suddenly when I do open it, it refreshes to actual current voltage.

Yeah, you are missing a few hours of battery data in there Put the battery monitor widget on your homescreen somewhere, or enable 'background data capture' in the battery monitor settings. also, don't kill it's task! this will ensure a good track of data. Whenever you see a long horizontal line like that on the chart means it's probably missing a good bit of data, no way your battery would just idle for that long and not lose voltage!

This happened to my Incredible, never figured it out.
-Sent from my Rezound-

hmm, i did kill all tasks somewhere in that time period. But, I do have background data enabled on the widget as well as the widget on the home screen.
I used the phone for prolly another 30-40 min reading stuff on xda and maybe FB... but that shouldn't drop it from 70-0%... Also the stock android battery info screen shows a huge gap as well, even if I killed the battery monitor widget task, shouldn't the stock battery status screen still capture the data? As you can see it has a huge gap as well...

Battery draining overnight a bit too high? How's yours?

Hi,
I'm currently using JuicePlotter to see how my battery drains over time and this past night I think it drained more than it should (or maybe not).
For the ones who don't know, JuicePlotter runs in the background (of course) analyzing your battery, that too wastes battery juice of course. Thought, the app dev says on his website:
Perhaps the most important feature of JuicePlotter is that - unlike all similar apps and widgets - it's very battery friendly;

So I'm not sure if the problem lies on JuicePlotter or not, I'll have to test it one night without it...
This is how JuicePlotter displays it's graph:
The coloured bands along the graph show your screen brightness, radio usage, charging status and battery temperature. Just scroll around to find precise information and make sense of the different colours.

I went to bed at 4:10 with the battery at 97%. Around 13:00, it was at 89% and I didn't receive any calls/messages/mails/whatever during the night. The WiFi/3G was off all night along with the screen of course. The battery temperature remained the same too. I don't know if it makes a difference but I normally turn off Auto-Sync if the WiFi is off too.
Is it normal to lose 8% of battery juice in 9h in standby? I think it's a bit too much, but I don't know... Does the same happens to you too? What else cloud it be?
Interesting looking app. I've never noticed much of a lose overnight. Just installed the app, will fully charge and give you an update tomorrow.
Also how's the cell reception in your area? I've heard it can drain the battery a far bit if the reception is low.

I'll have to do more testing but I think it's the app's problem... Tonight, I went to bed with 83% and it was exactly the same when I woke up...
I fully charged mine last night and turned on JuicePlotter. Still showing 100% this morning. Both in the app and on the phones battery indicator (in the notification bar). Do you know of any other apps similar to this that could be run in tandem?
Weird, Battery Graph also does the same thing...
This needs more days of testing on my part...
My battery goes from 100% - 0% in about 16hrs... doesn't matter how much I use the phone or not.
I have BatteryGraph but the results don't really mean anything to me as it just shows battery life vs time on a scale.
I'll try JuicePlotter to see if I can pin down exactly what's causing my terrible battery life.
I have a feeling it's running at full speed even when in standby but I'm not sure how to check if this is the case. Any ideas?
EDIT: Looking at BatteryGraph I've lost 15% in around 1hr... nothing unusual going on with my phone that I know about... just standard stuff running in the background. Perhaps the battery itself is simply past it's best.

Wow that is terrible, try apps like Taskpanel and when you add programs to your auto kill list the program kills the programs as long as they are running in the background when the screen is off, however if you are on lets say your browser and you don't go to your homescreen the screen goes off into stand by it will not kill the app. Also try draining your battery to the point it shuts down by itself, plug it in let it charge for a bit, boot into recovery wipe battery stats start up the phone or leave it off (your choice) and let it charge fully. Are you using setcpu or OC Widget or anything? If you are using SetCPU make a profile for when screen is off and make it underclocked like 264 Mhz to 480Mhz, or with OC Widget tick the 'use different screen frequencies' (don't remember what it is called since I don't use it) and do the same; I like SetCPU better because when you turn the screen on it switches profile faster where as OC Widget takes its time however with SetCPU do not use the widget it will cause Sense to FC and I'm not sure about Vanilla.
Hope this makes sense since all my ideas are said at once.

The way I've learned to recalibrate the battery is to let it go down to 5%, boot phone into recovery and wipe batterystats, then power off the phone. Let the phone charge until the green led is on without turning it on. Then turn on and use the phone as usual. Learned it over at modaco. Worked as a charm, and batterytime was improved. I have personally experienced strange batterybehaviour after periods with flashing a lot of roms.

Here.
That's interesting...
Cause I've been playing with ROMs latetly, creating my own, testing hacks and stuff... And most of the time the phone is plugged and the battery is charged, during the flashing process it's using the battery and then it charges again. I also have to leave from time to time and when I get back I continue my stuff, meaning I'm charging the battery at high levels.
I'll have to try that calibrate method...
For now, for the past 2 nights, with JuicePlotter off, I've noticed the battery level did not change at all during the night. Tonight I'm going to try one more time with JuicePlotter on...

Wiped battery stats at 5% last night, let the phone die and then charged whislt off until green light came on. Been keeping an eye on it all day and there has been a noticable improvement.
The phone came off charge at around 2am (so around 12hrs ago) and it has only lost 20%, which is a lot better than I was getting before.
It was probably just due to me messing about with some many ROMs and update zips lately as I tend not to have too much crap running in the background (I use OSMonitor).
I will look into setCPU but I remember trying it before with VR12 and it ended up causing some weird problems meaning I needed to do a full wipe to get everything working again.
Thanks for the help
This night, with JuicePlotter on, I only lost 1%, seems reasonable now... I don't know why that one time I lost 8% during the night. Maybe an isolated case? Something was probably running when it shouldn't, I just don't know what.

Idle battery usage with wifi

I would say that this isn't bad at all. Wifi and GPS are switched on with sync/fb/twitter all day and random txt messages. 1 minute screen timeout is the most of my battery usage. I was trying out my new car mount which caused the battery graph to reset. Running unnamed 1.2 1GHz max 200 min undervolted on conservative

If it takes forever to charge, that means something is constantly using the cpu power and causing it to discharge while you're charging it. I use an extra battery charger and just swap between the two. Please post your wakelocks from betterbatterystats (available somewhere on the forums for free), your battery graph, installed apps, and current widgets you use.
Mine takes around 5 hours to charge, and that's when the phone is completely off. I'll do another test run today with Bluetooth and Kaiten mail turned off. From looking at the wakelocks in Spare Parts (BetterBatteryStats doesn't work for me with MIUI), those looked like the two main offenders.
Here is a graph showing my charging time:
http://www.imgur.com/5fVwe.jpg
Somethings holding a wakelock and causing your phoen to be on all the time.
If Android OS is at 70% or above, you've got something waking up your phone.
If you look around, I've got a thread on known battery drainers here in General. I should ask Jivy26 to add it to the FAQ...
Actually, looking at the graph I think MIUI interpolated between the time my phone died and when I turned it on in the morning, so the 5 hour charging time I mentioned is most likely not correct.
Ok, quick update. I uninstalled some stuff that had a lot of activity in my MIUI battery history. I uninstalled Dolphin Browser HD, Amazon app store, Fancy Widgets, Pulse, Mobile Office, Brilliant Quotes. Also removed the IMDB and Flixster widgets from my home screen.
All of these showed activity in the battery history, but didn't show up as holding wakelocks. I guess whoever the culprit was, it just fell under Android OS.
Anyway, I went to bed with 92% battery and woke up 7 hours later with 91% battery left. This is with Bluetooth and wifi on, running GalnetMIUI 1.11.9 ICS with 200 min/1600 max, ondemand/noop. I guess I can't complain now.
I've also noticed that the ui feels a lot more responsive/less laggy, and the battery drops a lot slower when I'm using the phone.

This is common, if you look at my Known Battery Drainers thread you'll see that there are a lot of usage cases where a rogue app can get its usage blamed on Android OS.
Specifically, any app that drives data to your phone will cause the phone to wake every time it receives data. In some cases, this means 800 milliseconds spent resuming/suspending to process 10 bytes of data (which takes the app itself next to no time.)
It sometimes gets worse on wifi because some apps change data usage patterns when on wifi.
A situation like that usually causes a lot of wlan_wake, wlan_rx, or svnet-dormancy wakelocks in /proc/wakelocks (BBS does not show kernel wakelocks properly yet - chamonix added the feature recently but it's not quite working yet.)
My guess is it was fancy widgets/pulse. I use dolphin browser, amazon app store and they do not effect battery life at all.
That is my suspicion as well, and I will try adding apps back one by one to see which one was the culprit.
Right now RILJ Dialer is waking up my phone constantly with hundreds of wakelocks. Many people seem to have this problem, but I haven't seen a solution.
Well, this is looking very good! I never expected this kind of battery life.
Any thoughts on the wakelocks? Not sure if I should worry about them or not.

[Q] Battery Usage Monitor App?

Im looking for an app that will do the following:
log the battery percentage at set intervals.
(for instace, every 10 mins it would take note of the percentage of battery left.)
Im having problems with the battery in my epic 4g and I think that an app like this would help me diagnose the problem.
The default battery monitor app kind of does this, however it doesnt record the actual times (to my knowlege) it just shows a line graph.
The battery is draining at about 15% over the course of an hour.
UPDATE: A big thanks to user: JR67 for suggesting "Battery Monitor Widget" This does exactly what I was looking for.
EDIT/UPDATE:
So, im making some progress trying to find out whats wrong. I put my phone on airplane mode for over an hour and when I checked it again the battery had not dropped a single percent, as opposed to non-airplane mode, which was taking about 10-15% in that same time period. I suspect that there is an app or two that are contancting a server a little too often. Im going to keep an eye on my data use to find out what could be using it. I dont think that I have any third-party apps that could be doing this so I think it is something default in CM9. I'm going to keep updating this with more info as I figure it out. When I get to the bottom of this I might start a new info thread with the details of whats going on (in the EVO 4G forum)
Take a look at Battery Monitor Widget. It will log battery stats at set intervals. You could also take a look at Battery Monitor. It keeps track of how long your battery remained at a certain percent.
Cool I just flashed cm9 and it seems to help a bit, I'll try the widget and see what up. The sprint store said the battery was fine. I also underclocked the cpu to .8 and that seems to help. Im also thinking it might not be sleeping properly.
If you think that your phone might be having sleep issues then you should use BetterBatteryStats.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809
I would use Battery Monitor Widget as a diagnostic tool and would only enable the monitoring/logging when I'm having battery issues. It'll cause wakelocks when it reads the battery stats.
I think I have the problem 'solved'. As soon as I turn off all mobile(3G) data the battery is fine. loosing 1-3% per hr. I wonder why the data is taking so much...

sudden battery drain issue

I'm having issue with my 4g lte. Happens randomly - my phone just discharges. Last night I had it on charger for up to 85% and I woke up this morning my phone was dead. No wifi or bluetooth on. No new apps installed. I cant find a pattern why and when is doing that. Any ideas ? is there some kind of app that can record what is happening to the sys and battery so I can review later on ?
Yes install BetterBatteryStats (available for free on the devs thread). It will show you what is keeping the phone awake since that is probably the cause of your battery being drained. Install it and let it standby for a while without touching. Update the thread with the statistics BBS gives you.
Also you should try posting questions in the Q&A forum next time
thanks and sorry
which on should I post ?
other, partial wakelocks, kernel wakelock, alarms or process ?
i have that app.. i just dont know like whats bad and whats not?? my battery seems ok but i just wish i knew how to use the app..
With no wifi on you are going to drain quick if you have spotty service. You can even go to settings, battery, and then see what is using your battery.
I also have this problem somedays I will have great battery life around 20 hours and other times I get around 12 hours, today for example my phone been of charger 2 hour about ten min of screen time and battery already at 80 percent, I do have better battery stats and have never seen a wakelock or anything like that.
so i should go under partial wakelocks and what do i look for>>??? i have mad stuff under it.. what do i look for >???

I am not an expert on the app it I believe you look for anything that says wakelock, well atleast that's what I do from my understanding a wakelock means the phone was woken up by a certain app someone please correct me if I am wrong here

I have had similar issues, even went to bed before at 50% to wake up turned off from dead battery and all my data syncing stops at night based on schedules I have set.
Few things I have noticed.
I have plugged my phone in a few times, battery light turn orange like it's charging but the battery icon not move (as if is not charging) and when I went at power it says (discharging) yet when not plugged in it just says (not plugged in) and when charging it says (charging). A simple unplug and plug fixes it but odd that it randomly happens. I hope is sw bug and not something hardware on my phone.
Also once got my phone in diag mode by mistake playing with the ## menus. When that is on the battery was about 50% of what it normally is and you never know it's on unless you see the screen on reboot. Turned it back off and all was better again.
Still have the random days it drains fast though and the random times it won't charge though light is orange.
On the right days though, it is great. I can get over a day on my normal use and that is with 5 email accounts (some push exchange and some imap) and some texting and web and light browsing.
I had the same issue for a while, I finally found out what is was. It was "Sync Internet". It was constantly running. Go to Settings >> Accounts & Sync >> Your Google Account(s) and see if "Sync Internet" has the sync icon next to the checkbox. It never stopped syncing and so it was draining my battery. I unchecked it and battery is working like a champ!

Lol !
The only battery issues I've had with mine are when I disabled a ton of apps.
Sorry I posted that and then went to bed here's what you do:
Set it to detect 'since unplugged' and then let the phone idle for a nice amount of time to get good data. Then check under kernel wake locks and take a screen shot then just switch to partial ones and do the same. I'll look at them and try to help. I'm not an expert on it but it did help me back when I had a similar issue with my 3D.

[Q] Battery drains without any normal or background activity

Hi
I searched the web and also on Xda but I could not find an answer to the problem I got. I want to know if anybody has the same problem as I have. Firstly I want to clarify that I am NOT talking about a normal battery drainage caused by background apps, foreground apps, enabled wifi, bluetooth, google background activities, synchronisation, facebook, google location settings, any antivirus app or something of that kind. There are plenty of threads about that and google search is full of this topic. I am talking about something else when it comes to sudden and quick battery drainage.
It already happened to me a couple of times when I use the built in projector of my phone (samsung galaxy beam). So I watch a movie on the projector and it takes let say.. around 30 percent of my battery life. After I turn the projector off, close all foreground and background activities I wait like a minute or 2 and the battery status drops from lets say 28 to 20. This is normal as the battery status somehow needs some time to get "updated". So after every single fore- and background activity is closed and I got 20% battery left I go to bed. Then in the morning I look at my phone and its dead meaning the battery dropped to 0 causing the phone to turn off. And thats not normal for me. (I do hear the sound of very low battery in the early morning meaning it doesnt turn off within 1 hour which would mean faulty battery) First I was thinking that this problem might be caused by previously overheating the battery but I checked the temperature and here all is fine. Also both batteries are not too old and still work normally (beside the described problem). I may add that using the projector itself is not an "extreme" usage of the battery. When I use the projector, play an HD android game connected to my ps3 controller ...that is a different story.
So my question is what could cause this rapid battery percentage drop even tho the phone has no activity at all and sleeps. Sometimes it happens and sometimes it does not tho..If I would not use the projector then I loose around 2-3 percent overnight, if I use it then I sometimes loose 20% without doing anything. And thats not normal. I understand that a lot of people dont have my phone, but I still would like to know if anybody had the same issue on his phone after "heavy" usage? Maybe android somehow thinks that there is still activity even tho there isnĀ“t. Like a virtual activity making the battery think its in use and therefore draining it. Any thoughts on that?

I wrote that already in the post. Its the Samsung Galaxy Beam.
ya, even my xperia m with JB 4.3 drains heavily.
This is a case where actual current measurements will narrow things down.
It could be that when you turn off the projector, there is still some hardware drain going on.
It could also be that the last "20%" of your battery is really only 1%.
For current measurement, see: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2487055
this can be due to some defect with ur battery or with the charger that you are using, you can rule this out may be by trying different charger and also changing the battery to rule out the battery defect. what @Renate NST say could also be the issue.
Problem solved
Ok. Just a little heads up. I managed to solve the problem. Thanks for the replies. This is how I solved it:
1. I first ran this app ( Battery Life Repair) to check for any faults in the battery itself https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.BoshBashStudios.batterydoctorrepair
2. Then I installed this app (BatteryCalibration): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nema.batterycalibration and followed the advise as written on the app (regarding full charge and discharge- I discharged it until the phone switched off). Find the XDA thread of this app here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1024867
3. After I watched a movie on the phones projector I restarted the phone and it stopped from draining the battery until 0 and went back to a normal discharging state
So with a bit of heavier battery usage (watching a movie on the projector) the phone or battery somehow memorized this usage, and thought it has to continue in this state even after I ended the movie and turned the projector off. But the above 3 actions solved my problem. Its important to mention that you will still loose some battery life as you need to restart the phone. But this is obviously way better than having the battery run down to 0% for a virtual usage... :good:
PS: If you still got problems with ur battery you might want to replace it or change your charger...
