Market HELP - Streak 5 Themes and Apps

So here's the problem. Please read it and don't skip bits
I initially bought my Streak when I was over in China in about July and it didn't come with the Market installed.
After coming home from my travels I rooted my Streak and managed to get the Vending.apk into the system folder and installed it from there. At this time I was on Froyo 2.2 and I didn't need to change permissions or owner of the file it just installed I don't know why but it did.
Recently I updated to the 2.3.3 Olleh rom and the market had vanished. I assumed this would happen as it is a Korean rom similar to how my first rom was Chinese. So I did the same procedure but nothing happened, the Market would just force close on every open. I tried wiping the cache, reinstalling changing permissions and owner but nothing...
So I thought maybe it's just the rom. So I tried a few custom roms to see if it would work in them. I tried Longhorn 2.2, GingerStreak 2.4.4, DSC 0.7 each rom didn't even display the Market. I'm not stupid and I followed procedures properly. I'm currently back on GingerStreak 2.4.4 with the baseband and everything flashed correctly.
I've tried installing Gapps via StreakMod using the Gapps zip file but still nothing. Even dropped the gapps apks and permission files into the Gingerstreak zip file but it would still force close
You're talking to a guy who has literally read everything and tried everything. I honestly am willing to do anything to get Market in any decent build without going back to Froyo 2.2
Please someone help a brother.
Edit: I forgot to say the only custom rom I could get it too work with was on DJ_Steves Cyanogenmod build, where you flash the gapps separately

Have you checked the /system/app folder to make.sure the vending.apk is there

When I've got the ROM I've checked the .zip system/app/vending.apk is in there. But when I flash the ROM it's not in the install, neither are YouTube and other apps.
I've tried manually dropping vending.apk into the system/app folder and manually changing permissions and ownership to root etc. But no luck. Like I said I've literally tried everything

HMMM, my only suggestion at this moment is maybe downgrading to a stock FROYO ROM, say 360 for example... flash the stock 360 recovery and the stock package and that would remove any doubt about having the market app built into the ROM.

I tired flashing the stock recovery and ROM along with the 306 amss and dsp1 but I got stuck in a boot loop, I'll give it a go soon though. Thank's for your advice!

It's the 360 ROM and if you got stuck in a boot loop then you simply need to do a couple of things...
1) Before flashing again simply try to boot again, if you get stuck in boot loop then just pull battery, wait 10 seconds and try to boot again WITHOUT factory reset or flashing
2) if 1 doesn't work, then just do a factory reset
3) if factory reset doesn't work, then flash again and begin from step 1
It may take up to 15 minutes for it to boot if everything gets written correctly

Sorry I abandoned this.
I tried everything you said but still nothing. I ended up going back to Longhorn 2.2 and I put market on and it was force closing all the time.
Then I was out last night and my screen stopped responding so I rebooted and after reboot I got a notification saying facebook was downloading, I checked it and it wasn't force closing. So it's working now for some reason haha! Thanks for your help anyway brother!

You got a bad sd card, replace your inner sd card asap.

Need a little help with this. Please

I have a quite larger problem, I installed the JP3 rom from Eugene and Bionix. Well I revereted back to a nandroid of Vibrant9, thats where my problems began. After the nandroid was finished I seen the GTI9000 screen and it stayed there so I tried to revert back to stock with odin. I havedone every stock 2.1 odin they have posted and they go into a bootloop boot all the way up for about 20 seconds and then reboot. So I managed to get my update.zip pushed to my internal and without having to reroot the phone I got into clockwork mod installed Franken Twiz it works great other than the new problems. My signal either shows to be all or nothing no more individual bars being full, and my market place with download maybe 5 apps and wont download anything else after that. Did I do something wrong I followed all directions to a T help is needed Please.

You could try downloading lookout from the market. It will scan the apps you have. I personally havent seen a virus but im careful what I load.
not to be rude but in the OP it states that my market place no longer works becase of this. none of the antivirus apps actually work they have never been tested with a real virus. if someone can post the apk for a zip file containing that apk for lookout we can test to see if it really works

If you are having issues with Clockwork Recovery....

THIS THREAD IS NO LONGER RELEVANT AS IT IS FOR A DIFFERENT ISSUE FROM THE PAST... IT GOT BROUGHT BACK TO THE TOP. DONT CONFUSE THIS WITH THE 3E RECOVERY "ISSUE"
THE BELOW ISSUE HAS BEEN ADDRESSED BY KOUSH. YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO FLASH CWR VIA ROM MANAGER LIKE NORMAL NOW. IF YOU STILL HAVE ISSUES, THERE IS A FIX POSTED BELOW, THANKS!
Update from koush:
@clockworkmod Hey all, flashing recoveries through ROM Manager is busted. We hit a bandwidth/CPU quota on Google App engine.
If you are trying to flash Clockwork Recovery for the first time, it appears that a lot of users are having issues over the past 24 hours.
Normally, you would:
download Rom Manager
Click Flash Clockwork Recovery
it will ask for root privelages
you would select the Vibrant as your phone
after it downloaded CWR you would get a successful pop-up....
you could then click on reboot into recovery (and since it was the first time you would go to the stock recovery, click reinstall packages, and THEN you would go to Clockwork Recovery)....
well.... people can't seem to get there now. I am NOT having issues as I already have CWR. However, if you are, please download this file on your phones browser (just so you dont have to mount your phone to your pc.... which you can do if you prefer)
FILE DOWNLOAD HERE: View attachment update.zip
Move this file to the root of your internal memory. If you have any other update.zip file you can just overwrite it, or delete it prior to moving this file over, your choice....
NOW, go back to your stock recovery and press reintall packages.... you should go to CWR, if not, press to reinstall again... still no luck? blasphemy.
With all of that said, I need someone to post that this successfully works (it should, and you really can't lose anything)
I am contacting koush for an explanation of what's wrong....
i will check this out
everytime i boot into recovery and press reinstall packages my just restarts phone and i can't get into clockwork.
You generally have to tell it to reinstall packages twice.
^ that has not been the case for me.. but try it twice if if doesn't work the first time!
Yeah, it may depend on the ROM being run or something, but I've noticed it quite a bit.
yeah, something happened when rom manager updated in the last day where flashing recovery isnt compatable with galaxy s devices anymore. drove me freakin crazy cuz i just dl'ed nero and went to install and couldnt.
thank you again. +10 internets to u.
I started having an issue after flashing eugenes super kernel. I did a.clean install of axura and problem went away.
Powered by Axura
^ the rom would have nothing to do with it.
Koush has fixed this, it was server related.
THE BELOW ISSUE HAS BEEN ADDRESSED BY KOUSH. YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO FLASH CWR VIA ROM MANAGER LIKE NORMAL NOW (NORMAL STEPS STILL INCLUDED BELOW). I KNEW THIS WOULD BE A QUICK FIX FOR KOUSH!
As of 10mins ago i was having this problem.
But thanks to this post and installing the downloaded update I'm back up!
Rom manager gave me errors when flashing the clockwork recovery
so had to go to the update.zip and i'm now back!
Dont think rom manager in the market has been updated
[i was coming from a odin[ed] JFD stock.
hope this helps someone else!
Thanks... this works for me :\
I flashed to JL4 and had a freaking wifi boot loop and gotta go back to Eugene's does not brick ROM and found out can't install CWM via ROM manager
I don't know if its supposed to fix it, but even after flashing this Im still having issues with ROM manager. Get an error every time I try to update the recovery. Also, I can't remember the last time fix permissions actually worked (eclair maybe?).
Anyone else feel my pain?
This is a fix, and you trying to update the recovery is no different than those who have issues not even using my .zip....
I updated the op with a tweet from koush. He has a fix on his site too (might as well download it from here though?
I downloaded the new update, still can't get into clock work. When I hit reinstall packages it says ... E: error /cache/update.zip
(bad)
Installation aborted
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
^^^ I'm having the same problem as well right now.
reinstall off market and it works
I thought I was sunk until an hour of searching found this post. Thank you all so much!
I have after upgrade to K6 the error messeage:
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted
I've try the update.zip from the 1st post,
reinstalled via market
update und select the Vibrant modell
everytime the same...
the phone is rooted via SuperOneClickv1.5.5-ShortFuse
Any help ?
None of this works because none of it addresses the real problem ,3E signature. Way to much trouble to go thru.
^ This thread was created when the Clockwork servers were down... it has absolutely nothing to do with 3e recovery... as that didnt even exist when this thread was created... hopefully others are not confused now that it was brought back to the top.
I didn't update it yet, because the thread was dead.
And to be fair the OP did have this:
THE BELOW ISSUE HAS BEEN ADDRESSED BY KOUSH. YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO FLASH CWR VIA ROM MANAGER LIKE NORMAL NOW. IF YOU STILL HAVE ISSUES, THERE IS A FIX POSTED BELOW, THANKS!

[Q] Bricked phone please help.

Hi, I've a Samsung galaxy ace GT-S580i and I downloaded simplistiy V2 from this site. It came with a boot.img, Rzr recovery and 4 ext file system I tried to replace it with a different custom Rom because the developer replaced the standard internet explorer with with opera mini voda phone, I need the standard internet explorer because I don't own a pc and I use an app for very large downloads and I can't use the app using opera mini.
I know how to install custom Roms and root phones but when I installed a different custom Rom and wiped data my phone Bricked and I don't understand why. I've changed custom Roms countless times, nothing like this has ever happened before. Luckily I have a spare phone but if anyone could help that would be great
Thank you.
Sorry to hear about your bad luck man! I don't have this phone myself, but if it doesnt boot at all, it might be a problem in the boot.img. If that file is in the rom.zip, replace it with one you know for sure works (like the one from your previous rom). Otherwise, reinstall your old rom, remove the opera browser and install boat browser? or get the stock broser apk, move it in system/app and give it rw-r-r permissions....Hope this helps a little bit
I can't do anything like that, I tried installing all of my custom Roms that I've downloaded but nothing fixes. I really don't understand why my phone Bricked, I did everything normal.
is there any kind of firmware update software which you can use to flash it back to stock? maybe Odin Tool?
http://www.redmondpie.com/unbrick-s...h-this-all-in-one-gui-tool-using-odin-cygwin/
first hit on google...give it a try, it might take a little to do it, but it might just work. let me know
Did you wipe factory reset, wipe system, wipe dalvik prior to flashing another rom?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Xparent Skyblue Tapatalk 2
Yea I wiped everything before installing the new custom Rom, I followed the instructions to the letter. I'm going to try installing something else to see if utter fixes it, just gotta download from this phone. Hopefully it'll work.
Ok I've fixed my phone, I installed a few custom Roms but nothing worked. So I downloaded simplistiy V2 again and when I installed the boot.img.zip and reboot my phone loaded up ok. Thx for your responses

[GUIDE][ROM FLASHING][WALK THRU] Easy to do! All Questions Welcome!

This will help anyone who keeps having flashing issues.

THIS IS ONE QUICK/SIMPLE ERROR FREE ROM FLASHING PROCEDURE
This should eliminate a few posts saying, stuck in download mode, stuck at logo. just vibrates and them MANY other issues that somehow, everyone seems to find.
Here is my quick rom flashing process I use ALWAYS (yes always)
THINGS YOU NEED ON extSDCARD
1. Extra kernels (2 or 3 you know works for your device)
2. Optional: 2 recoveries that can be flashed (I use CWM & TWRP)
3. Optional: apps.zip (a zip created from Titantium BU, containing Root Explorer, TU Backup, Quickpic, ES File Explorer and Terminal Emulator)
Flashing the rom: TOUCHWIZ/AOSP ROMS
1. Backup current rom (to the extsdcard)
2. Complete wipe, (I do complete, some people do not) Complete = No Issues [FACTORY RESET + CLEAR CACHE + CLEAR DALVIK CACHE + CLEAR DATA]
3. Flash the rom
4. Flash the kernel (your device kernel) (I know some roms have their own kernel) this is where your problems start.
AGAIN: FLASH YOUR KERNEL, you KNOW it works. 1 more time FLASH YOUR KERNEL. (you can experiment with other kernels after you boot)
AOSP ROMS - require you to flash gapps before you boot. [This is not required for TouchWiz roms]
5. Boot the rom.
FINISHED!!!! SUCCESS!!!
Total time to flash a rom:
7-10min
Errors - NONE
This goes for every rom in my guide.
TIPS:
This flash procedure is for Touchwiz Roms, if you are flashing AOSP roms, you must flash the gapps package associated with the rom you are flashing.
**** SGH-I337M Users: Often requires flashing a different kernel than the one included in most ATT ROMS. Any GT-i9505 kernel will work and Adam kernel and Faux kernel are both confirmed working for us Canadian users.
Note: Flash KERNEL directly after ROM then reboot device.
[Special thanks to blyndfyre for this helpful tip].
The extra recovery I flash if a rom does not like the recovery I am using.
Yes, you can flash recoveries back and forth.
Apps.zip I flash after the rom is up & running. This I use to get the rom setup (like root explorer and others needed)
I am in no way responsible for anything that may do damage to any device - Use these tips at your own risk - period!
If you found this useful in any way, please hit the THANKS button for my effort.

I've been running into a lot of issues when trying to flash different ROMs. For instance, right now I'm on CleanROM 1.6 - I just tried to install PureGv2.
Steps I took:
Have Goo and ROM Manager installed after clean install of CleanROM 1.6
Flash CWM from ROM Manager
Install Recovery Script from Goo
Reboot into recover from Goo
TWRP loads
Wipe data, cache, dalvik, etc
Install PureGv2
I forget the error off the top of my head but it doesn't install
In a nutshell I'm asking what am I doing wrong? Do I need to flash another kernel?
Flash your verizon kernel. Correct. I know it is a vzn rom, but do it anyway.

Was looking through Tomsgt's Youtube channel and stumbled across a video of his that showed his "About Phone". Everything was identical to mine, so I'm still a little lost as to why I can flash certain ROMs but not others. Sac/Gru's ROM soft bricked my phone, Hyperdrive5.7 didn't install, CleanROM does. It's just funky...maybe I'll just Odin back to stock, flash the MDK and start fresh.
Could the downloads be a problem? I downloaded 2 of the ROMs from work today on a 50meg pipe and they didn't work.
Do you download the ROMs to your phone or to your computer and then move them to your SD card?
If you download to your phone, do you move them to the SD card or leave them in the download folder on the internal storage?
If you do the latter, do you use a micro SD adapter or plug the phone in and move them that way?

Download to the computer, then copy to the phones extsdcard, should be ok, make sure you do a md5 check on the files to make sure they are the correct size.

Alright sounds good. Flashing back to stock later today then re-rooting
thanks for the help
Remember always do a BACKUP before you do anything.
First off, big thanks for this thread.
Now I'm running Cleanrom 1.5. If I wanted to install a new rom can someone please explain exactly what I do to go about it? As jargon free as possible would be awesome.

I certainly scared the carp outta me the other night. I'm using the Carbon ROM and while I do like it, I miss a couple of the S4s features. I picked what looked like a good modified stock ROM and proceeded to flash it.
I'm using Goo and TWRP for the job. I checked of all 3 boxes for clearing cache, davik and factory reset.
Then I chose the file and started it.
The first result, it acted like if was doing everything but nothing changed. Phone still worked fine.
On the next try, I waited for TWERP to start and I reselected the ROM I wanted and flashed it.
When it booted up, I was very happy to see the original screens come up. Then it stopped on the one with the Verizon check mark. The blue LED slowly pulsing and nothing else for about 30 min. I removed battery to try and start over. Same thing again.
Time to goto my backup and restore my phone back to Carbon.
IT FAILED.
Now my phone is stuck in a weird looking boot up loop. After a few tries I was able to get into recovery
mode. TWRP started loading, froze and crashed! Even though I am a total noob at this, I still did not panic.
I'd restart my phone by removing the battery, going into recovery mode and then wildly press every button on my phone hoping to break the loop. It worked! I chose a different save and tried it all over again. FAIL.
ON the next I wiped every bit of old data off. Chose Factory restore crossed my fiingers....it work! My phone is fine now.
Thanks to that ordeal and this thread I think I know what I did wrong even though this never happened to me. before.
1) WIPE THE DATA
2)INSTALL A COMPATABLE KERNAL FIRST

Flashing Questions
So, if you just need to add something, like different Kernerl, do you have to wipe and start from scratch?
Should you.
If so, and you backup apps and data in Titanium, then what you do a full wipe, flash entire rom, and reinstall the apps and data associated therewith?
Last, I have asked this but cannot seem to get an answer.
Installed Hyperdrive 7 (also had 5.7 and 6). Rom is super smooth and fast, working like a charm. but I want Verizon Visual Voice Mail.
I tried to copy the apk file to the devices system/app directory but get permission denied message....tried to install, and get failed message....

did you set the permissions for the app? That should work actually. Look at one of the apps in that directory, and set the permissions the same for the voice app. Reboot and see what happens.
Good luck.

Thanks.

Please bring the question over to my thread up above. It shows also what kernels to use. We will help there.
Another noob question: so you still advise flashing a kernel even if the ROM creator says that the ROM comes with the appropriate kernel and that no extra flashing is required? I've got the Verizon Galaxy S4 variant and specifically am thinking of Dubbsy's Google Play Edition ROM.

You would flash the rom, and after, flash your verizon kernel, simple as that.

[Q] bricked my phone trying to install olympus cyanogenmod 9, help?

hey guys, first post here: i just bought the atrix 4g, got it in the mail today, used the 1-click rooter to unlock the bootloader, then to root. then i installed cyanogenmod 9- i followed instructions appropriately, but the phone hangs at the motorola logo screen at boot-up and does nothing more. i tried re-flashing, fixing permissions, clearing dalvik cache, nothing works.
edit- i installed cyanogenmod9 through clockworkmod, by installing zip from internal
i was going to re-flash stock rom, but i cant get internal storage to mount from clockworkmod (no sd card), so i cant get the stock file over to the phone to flash, so im bricked.
any thoughts/advices? thanks in advance, after not having a phone for near a week, id kinda like to make a call

You bricked your phone, not cyanogenmod ...
Restore a backup, your phone should work.
hm, can anyone tell me, why i cant get internal storage to mount from clockworkmod? is this a common problem?
i dont understand what went wrong for me, when i followed the same steps that many others did.

Your phone is not a paperweight, just not boot the operating system
You did a backup with CWM? restore a backup as Emerson says
You can borrow a sd card copy there CM7 and install from the sdcard
You can also use RDS to install a stock rom
Never install a rom without having an one that you know works 100%
AND ALWAYS READ ALL FAULTS AND SOLUTIONS BEFORE INSTALLING A CUSTOM ROM
ok guys, i went and bought an sd card, clockworkmod mouted it fine, i found and copied over to the sd card android 2.34 for atrix, it flashed fine and my phone is back up.
can you gentleman tell me, whats a good solid rom to flash? cyanogen mod 9 obviously didnt work for me. id like to get started setting up the phone, so i need a good rom to begin with.
thanks to everyone in advance
Go with montouri's version of cm7.2 ,mrom-Olympus you can find it in the developer section. Its my daily driver. Its the most stable and has the best battery life out of all the roms that I've tried
motoxrcr1 thanks for the recommendation, running m-rom now and it runs smooth.
the first time i tried to install it, it hung at the boot logo, then i got to thinking maybe i better try updating clockworkmod, turned out that clockworkmod 4.0X that was installed by the 1-click rooter, is rather old, so i found and updated to 5.XX. tried re-flashing m-rom again, and it worked fine that time.
older clockworkmod, that's probably what caused my original problem with cyanogenmod 9..
does mrom support overclocking? not that i guess i need it, but just to know for future reference
thanks!
the trouble i caused myself, was all due to flashing the rom from an older version of clockworkmod.. after updating to a newer version 5.xx, it flashed fine
