Maxx battery life is truly amazing!! - Motorola Droid RAZR

So I have had my phone off charge since 6AM, I have been using it all day. Listened to music on the train to work, since i just got it I have been downloading a lot of apps and getting it configured, surfing Facebook and making calls. I even over road the screen dim sensor and turned the screen light to full at about 10 AM. It’s now 4:30PM and I still have 60% battery life!!! I have not had a phone with this kind of battery life since my old Samsung clamshell dumb phone! So awesome!

My Thunderbolt would have been dead by 11am doing the same stuff!

This is with moderate usage: Several voice calls, Google Navigation, Internet Browsing, Facebook-ing, Taking some pictures, downloading and installing apps, Used 4G for about 1/3 of this time while the remaining time was in a 3G area.
The only settings I had set was Auto-brightness until 20% battery, then brightness set to low. LTE/CDMA was left on at all times as well as GPS and Sync.
The phone continued to last about another 2 hours before I finally plugged it in at ~5% battery life remaining.

sounds good ~

I've had my maxx since the day it came out and im still finding it difficult to not plug it in at night. I keep thinking that the battery wont be enough to last me through to the end of the next day. I also downloaded a widget to turn off mobile data (it takes less than 10 seconds to re-enable them) and the battery lasts even more.

Really? I thought the wifi radio used less battery than the 4g/3g radio. Or are you referring to wifi on but no wifi network?
For me, I had the orig Razr and hated that i had to change my user behavior because of the battery life. I want to use my phone how I want to use it and honestly, the battery should last at least a day. The Maxx will chew through a day with half a battery left...which is perfectly fine with me. I still charge every night.

If only they sell a maxx battery pack and cover. It will make us OG razor users happy

I know! The Maxx Battery is almost too good! lol I’m used to charging every night but now on days when I'm not using it that much that won’t actually be necessary.
Plus I’m coming from a Thunderbolt, maybe the worst battery life in the history of phones. So I have a charge cable literally every place I am, by my bed, at my computer desk, in the kitchen, in the car, at both desks at work, and one in my back-pack. Now I really don’t need any of them but one… So weird.

i also hope theres a gsm version . on rogers canada here and almost jumped on buying two razrs a couple weeks ago...until i heard about the maxx...heres hoping rogers gets it!

Looks like he is using "Battery Indicator". To download it, search the market for "Darshan", that is the developer, and its easier to find the app searching by the developer name, rather than the app name on this particular application.
If this helps you, don't forget to hit the thanks button pls.

How bad really is the battery?

So i want to port to verizon and get a 4g phone to lock in my unlimited data, but the horror stories of bad battery life are scaring me!
realistically, can you get through one day of moderate use without charging?
I just got mine, and am trying to train the battery and prune services to get maximum run time.
My first day with it, I ran Pandora in the car, plus Google Nav, plus LTE web browsing, etc. I got 4.5 hours full charge to shutdown.
I am still cycling the battery, and I used Juice Defender free for a few days. Now I am playing with Green Power Free, which I use on my froYo tablet. I can get around 8 hours off charger, now, on the OEM battery.
I want to keep the slim(-ish) profile, so i don't want the extended battery with back. But, I will probably experiment with the fleabay batteries and see what I can get.
Battery is a huge suck factor with the TBolt. But, no worse than the Evo 4G that I also ran for a month. And, for me, the speeds and coverage are better with LTE than wiMax.
I have a feeling that I will be shuffling the phone from charger at home to charger in car to charger at office. I hope that the USB port doesn't break....
I get around 14 hours a charge with light-moderate usage. If I don't use my phone at all it'll last a couple days. If I'm streaming lots of music, browsing the web, and making calls I get 6 hours at most.
It doesn't bother me because I am always somewhere I can charge if need be.
The battery life on the Thunderbolt does leave a little to be desired. That being said, if you want the fastest download and upload speeds than this is your phone. By rooting, you can use different kernels and profiles that CAN extend the battery but that is only a band-aid. I just posted this in another thread two seconds ago but ill post it here as well.

Getting these speeds require battery. If your happy with your 3G than get a different phone and you will get better battery. Its up to you.

my post has nothing to with this thread, but dude..........you signature....HILARIOUS!!!!!!
I get 4-6 hours per battery on my thunderbolt. Screw trying to ooze every bit of battery life out of it. That's not why I bought it. 4g and bluetooth are always on and I use location services and push emails. Twitter and rss feeds autoupdate.
I bought this:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004Y6E5Z2
and it works great to charge all batteries. The extra batteries work pretty good, but the phone gets a little confused so I don't go below about 15-20% because sometimes it just shuts down. I think that is the battery software not being able to read the different batteries. The charger can charge one battery before my phone dies so I just switch as needed.
hmm, not exactly what i was hoping to hear. honestly i don't need a 4g phone now, but i want to grandfather in unlimited 4g before verizon takes that option away.
how good can the battery life get if you undervolt, turn off 4g when you're not web browsing, and buy the biggest battery that isn't obnoxiously large? how does the thunderbolt compare to the revolution or charge?

I usually get 5 hrs or so in a 4G area. A whole day roughly 10 hrs in a 3G area.
I just got my thunderbolt a few days ago and I've been stuck spending time next to a charger all the time so far but its worth the speeds!

Battery blows and something is draining the crap out of it even when sleeping. I'm gonna start analyzing with system panel soon to find the problem.
On a rom that has a toggle or using the lte on off app, you can toggle down to cdma/evdo unless you need to do something data intensive. Leaving lte on all the time isn't nessesary. Using aosp and stock battery, I easily make it through the day. I have the extended one though if I feel like it. Too heavy imo. Plus I look retarded when only I have the huge battery around 10 friends with super thin iphone 4's.

It's difficult to say whether one makes it through the day with moderate use since everyone's definition of moderate use is different. I'm rooted with das BAMF remix 1.8, stock kernel and settings, and after about 100 txt messages, half hour's worth of calls, 30 min. or so of gaming, and 30 min to hour of web browsing, all over 15 hours, my phone was at 68% at the end of the day. That's moderate usage for me, but most or some might call that light usage though. Oh and LTE on the entire time, but Wifi used for about 4 of those 15 hours.
my battery life is absolutely outstanding on this phone, even with 4g on all the time. maybe i just lucked out with a good phone?
I'm pretty sure the Revolution isn't that great on battery either and it's got 1 debloated ROM and BING! ewwww Granted the ROM out for it removes Bing but still. Also the Charge sucks down battery faster than the TBolt in my experience. If you get the extended battery like mentioned it lasts a pretty long time. I got it and thought I'd return it because of the size but it's really not that bad. It's definitely worth it to have the speeds and the dev support on this device! Plus it's not a Samsung and it doesn't come preloaded with Bing!!!

To be honest I think that WiFi uses less battery than mobile data, so even with the push email it'll use less than just the mobile data without push. Let me rephrase what I said then. There's no way I'll ever see that little loss over that length of time, even without using the phone just in my pocket I lose 10% in less than 2 hours.

A weak cell signal is really rough on the battery. I use wifi at work and home, both have full signal 90% of the time. If my phone is just sitting there at idle it barely uses any battery. Showing battery life since unplugged really isn't giving any info. Up Time and Awake Time since unplugged, with either Data or Wifi on, is what everyone should be showing. That actually gives everyone a general idea of battery life...
With my Anker 1900mah batteries, I get from 20-34 Up with 5-6 Awake, depending on my usage.

If you look at the time where the battery dropped the most, your phone was awake but the screen was off that whole time. There is an app that is keeping your phone awake. I have never had that problem before but I am sure that there is a program on the market that would help find the culprit.

None lol. You'd have to get an extended if you really want extra life that bad. I contacted Motorola few weeks back and complained about battery life (even though its not bad at all) and they offered to send me one for free. Best solution is to have 2 batteries!
If you really want to save yourself some battery ditch all those juice defender type apps and just uncheck these when you're not on your phone. I can get my phone to last at least 28 hours on a single charge by turning these on only when I need them. But battery life isn't a problem for me because I have 2 OEM batteries

honestly it's got great battery life, but if you go to a service and repair center and ask them to test your battery, they could at the vary least get you a replacement battery. ( if it's bad)
also turn off your GPS, for what ever reason the GPS hogs a TON of batt. on this phone. more than any other phone i've ever owned actually...
First, what Kenny said. I have 2 batteries but only really carry both when I'm going out or know I will be taking pictures or video (trust me, both will drain your phone real quick)
My GPS is NEVER on unless its in CarDock and im traveling in unfamilar area! No use for it at home. WiFi either. I have 2 computers at work and 3 at home.
Lastly, ante up the $$$ and get your battery from Motorola. Not all batteries are alike. (then again, I had 5 battereis with Evo I got for like $3.00 each. Some of them had some good run time?)

Any phone you pick up that has constant data running in background with a large screen will drain if you never put it down. Ask the galaxy nexus people lol? Only simple solution is to stop using it as much. Also cdma phones are known to have worse battery than GSM especially sprint; the worse your signal is the worse the battery life is. Unfortunately, sprints signal is terrible every where so we all suffer. If I use my phone for 3-4 hours straight I would have the same results. Just get a backup OEM battery man. I assure you for us HEAVY users thats about normal man. If your display is over 60% you need to put your phone down and take a break buddy. 70% and you're complaining about battery life? I just noticed that lmfao
PS that battery app doesn't do anything man get rid of it
I actually got rid of that app right after I posted this hahaha and the background data switch gave me significantly better battery life!! Now im at over 3 hours and at 48%!

The only batteries I recommend is the stock 1750 OEM. I've owned a ton of android phones and I'm not a fan of aftermarket cheap batteries. Here's what you do: Go to moto website, register your device, find te troubleshooting link, chat with a live rep, tell them your battery keeps getting extremely hot, make sure you tell them you've done hard resets from settings and through recovery, let them talk a bit, tell them sprints being if no help and wants to charge you for new battery, and get a free one sent to your house.
I did exactly what I just told you and it worked. Don't waste money buying those after market batteries..
Next I have to chat with them again for a free battery replacement door because mine makes little noises now from taking the back off so much. Plus its super thin and not a high grade of plastic.

I've noticed the battery seems to last longer with a stable 4G connection compared to 3G, and a lot longer than 4G with a constant WiFi connection (I have about 48 apps on the phone, battery life is significantly longer w/no apps installed)
I think I'll find an extended battery for good reviews then also try to get a free oem battery and rest both.

Lol....does it work when you put it back together? How easy is it to disassemble and reassemble?

Yeah this phone seems really simple to replace parts if needed. I personally was happy with how simple it was to tear down.
But to answer your question yep back together and runs like a champ
Step by step tutorial! Whenever u r free that is. ;P

Great job on the pictures. Thank you.
Wow.. That's pretty sweet. I wonder what how the battery will look in the N5. Because if it fits( I doubt it ) would be a nice upgrade
Did you do that yourself or pull the pictures from somewhere? I'd love to see an iFixit-like teardown.
This is actually one of the reasons why I didn't get an htc one because the phone is essentially, disposable. Get rid of it when the battery life goes down too much, because there's no way to replace it without pretty much destroying the phone. After my galaxy nexus battery life (near the end, I was getting around 4-6 hours on battery average), I didn't want to want to deal with that.
Nope all my own photos
Well of course you can take the battery out of any phone with a non-removable battery. The point of having a removable battery is to hot swap a dead for a charged one. Lets see how that works out for you when you have to tear your phone down just to do it.

Hahaha wanna time me? Jk and in truth I didn't pull the battery cause at the time I didn't have a suitable prying tool to lift the battery off the glue holding it down. My goal was just to see what was under the hood and how hard it was to get there. Mission accomplished and very impressed with the design

How many people actually do that? I'm more concerned about being able to swap a fresh one in a year or two. Especially given the battery life of the g2.

Most people want a phone with a removable battery so they can buy extras and keep them in their backpack or car or where ever. The majority of the people I know with SGS4's have extra batteries charged and ready to go. Its not like its a rare occurance. I have to charge my G2 my once every 2 days or so. I've had phones that I've had to charge twice a day sometimes, I feel good about the chances my G2 battery will be fine in 2 years, its not like its on the charger twice a day.

Don't know the number, but I am (was) among them. Had 3 batteries and a standalone charger for my GNex. Most Fridays saw me swap batteries at least once.
I came from the rezound and I had 4 batteries that I rotated into use. Normal work day saw me swapping a battery at 1-2pm and then again on heavy use days at 7 or 8. This phone I can rock till bed time with out touching a charger
Phone junkies don't worry about batteries. hehe
So the next question is where can we get a new battery? One we know is good and not a reject sold on eBay

This!
For all the folks who want a removable battery, you won't need it with the G2. This phone has a battery that lasts like two batteries on another cell phone.
And it recharges 3x as fast as other cell phones lol

Looks to be very similar to the droid razr. Pretty straight forward and simple. The only issue with the razr was the camera bezel being easily destroyed($10). What was great about the razr and razr maxx was the ability to upgrade to a maxx by simply changing the battery. The moment it was done, even the software acknowledged it as a maxx.

They will become available in time. It is almost always cheaper to buy a replacement battery than it is to harvest one from a phone(around $100 for a replacemnt). Purchasing a replacement usually also comes with new adhesive to replace the one removed. Also, it's a new battery, no risk of someone not conditioning it properly or lying about how long it really has been used.

To be honest, the battery will have to be replaced in 2 years if you want to continue having the same amount of battery life as you did when it first came out. An example, I was able to massage a 20 hour day out of my droid razr when I first got it. Not even 2 years later and the best I can do is maybe 8 with light use and wifi. My wife on the other hand has a droid razr maxx. She used to be able to go 4 days without charging it. She is now charging it every other day(less than 2 years). Is it still better than 90% of phones out there? Yeah, but it's nowhere near as good as it once was. And once you get used to having such a long battery life, it really pisses you off when you lose it.

Battery Life {Post Batt Stats Here}

Well, day 1 of being off the charger and I wasn't too impressed with the battery life. I am still hopeful though. Came from the Galaxy Note II which had a massive battery life. I know this is 3000 mAH... And the note was a bit bigger. Definitely going to look into cheap spare batteries or extended batteries that don't require a back door.
Please weigh in here with screen shots, Batt Stats and whatever other insight you may have.
Still excited for this phone!

I haven't had a chance to give the G3 a good test run, but I did notice the first few days it was draining extremely fast. I downloaded CPU Spy and saw it was not going into Deep Sleep cycle. I narrowed it down to turning the Network Mode from Global to CDMA/LTE and it seemed to instantly fix the issue. The setting is found in Settings > More.. > Mobile Networks > Network Mode. Hopefully this will help some people out if they are having the same issue I was.
Good call on that setting, as far as I know it should be on LTE/CDMA anyway. It has on all my last phones anyway.
Well start getting some screenies asap.

Day 2, was heading to bed and figured I would screenshot my stats before I put it on the charger.
I wasn't too impressed today at work, would post screens but I had to charge during work. Granted I did take off the charger last night before bed. Had about 75% when I went in. Tomorrow after a full overnight charge I'll take screens and give further updates. I did notice that screen used about 50% and Sprint Connections Optimizer placed second with a whopping 12%! So i disabled the sprint crap, and changed the network mode to CMDA/LTE as mentioned in earlier post. Will report in tomorrow!
Be sure to post what your brightness setting is left at during the day. The screen is obviously always the biggest battery killer thus I think it would be vital to know where it's running with battery stats like those. 17hrs with 4 hrs screen on is awesome... I need to figure out how to pull numbers like that. This is my first day running with the chanted network mode to LTE/CDMA so I will test and report back.

Do you happen to remember what the Screen On time was?

So, changed the network mode to LTE/CDMA this morning and noticed the same battery drain on my phone. Got to about noon and only had 40%. Not good! I travel over half the month as a pilot so I absolutely need my battery life.
Then I just had the realization that I've been using Nova Launcher with the Ok Google hotword enabled. To me it feels like this would suck down the battery. Can anyone confirm or report on this?

Todays battery
So here are some screen caps from my battery stats from today. wasnt TOO bad. I had data toggled OFF most of the day at work because it drains fighting for a signal. also i bounce back and forth on roaming when i go to the back. my brightness was set at 75% auto.

I turned it off first thing as it was on in my Nova restore. The very first thing I did with this phone in my hand was switch from global to lte/cdma. As I found it odd it was set to global, and the first place I went was network settings as this is a Spark device. I am still getting bad drain but can easily get 5 hours SOT with a lot of data usage. If it's in my pocket a lot, even with tower handoff and all systems go it's a standby beast. Keep your screens low as you can. Use Lux. It's way faster then auto brightness. Every user is different and puts different loads on their systems. Each set is different too. Not all are equal. Over all I say it's lived up to its battery hype. The screen is just a monster. Root might help. Time will tell.

Down to 35% by 2pm. Brightness at 50% in lux, location off, sync on, and wifi on most of the day. Almost 2 hrs of screen time. I feel like im getting pretty massive drain and quickly. This just seems like such a lifestyle change from my Galaxy Note 2. Also, whenever I'm on wifi, I seem to get that sync icon in the notification bar non stop. It doesn't go away!

I've gotten ok for the first use. Was a big show it off at world at since I'm the first to get it. Had slacker streaming through my LG tones all day while on sprints spark network and had Netflix. Both email account sync very hour and had a few calls and photos and 4k videos shot. Not that bad so far bit battery hasn't been broken in yet. I love this phone. The 1w speaker blows my m7 out the water.

Battery much better at home. No searching for signal, plenty of use.. Calls, you tube, music, Facebook, the works. Still had a ways to go until dead but I was in need of a charge myself lol. Very happy with these stats!

I was actively trying to kill my battery to condition it.
Long story short, 11+ hours total, +5 hours on-screen time and a 1.5 hour phone call to Verizon.
Wasn't impressed either. I won this G3 from Radioshack and am coming from my HTC One m8. May switch back as it has better battery life and interface.

Here are my stats. Wifi was off for most of the day, I was doing heavy usage on LTE for the entire morning. Blutooth, location and sync are all on. Brightness is set to 20% Auto.

I've been getting similar results... I'm pretty disappointed. I'm giving it another day (have had it for 3) and then I'm probably going back to my G2.
