[Q] Best ROM For Atrix 4G - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What do you guys think the best ROM for the Atrix 4G is? I was using Neutrino 2.1p and then jumped on the ICS bandwagon with the ICS port (Its still in Alpha - heavily under development).
Neutrino has to be one of the best ROM's I've ever experienced. It's well maintained and has a host of performance improvements.
The ICS alpha is going well but its a long way away from matching the maturity of Neutrino.

Neutrino v2.2 with faux123 latest kernel at 1.45ghz ROCK solid performance.

Do you have it OC'd at 1.45? How's the stability? I used Neutrino GT OC'd at 1.3 and it was super stable.

i was almost on every rom and i still think that stock rom is the best...
maybe MIUI...when it'll come out on a full version and not alpha/beta.

If you can do without a camera the alpha 7 build (non 2d version) has been pretty solid

I have Arabic rom with Faux kernel 1.3 OC with full Ubuntu for Webtop and I am happy

CM7 (weekly builds have fingerprint unlock) is the best.

In my personal tests, Alien works the best for me. I tried CM7, did not like it whatsoever. Neutrino, surprisingly, wasn't giving me very good performance. All in all I think Alien in the best...if only it had stable HDMI mirroring...

If you like all the functions of your Atrix working.
Wet Dream or The Dark Side are the best in my opinion.
Both are by the same dev and are fast and stable for me.
Right now I'm playing with cm9 kang until I need camera
Currently running Jokersax cm9 kang alpha 0.23.2

I'm currently using faux123's 023 kernel and I was wondering if there's a big difference between that and 024r? Thanks.

I'm a fan of MIUI, has a nice clean, finished look to it. However a little bit too iphoneish so I replace the launcher.
ICS rom is coming along very nicely, in fact I obtain the best battery life of any Atrix rom, including stock, while running ICS. This is fantastic since it's still just in the alpha stages and will only improve from here.

[Q] Best Rom & Kernel as today ?

So i dont know really know much about roms and kernels but i have alien and kholks kernel . which are the best of the best as of today ? Thanks
Purely subjective... different strokes for different folks.
I would venture to say though, that Alien is probably the most downloaded Atrix ROM right not... mostly b/c of the reputation Kenn had w/ GingerBlur, back on 2.2.2 (well deserved reputation I might add).

I've moved from Alien to Aura recently. I think, it's more faster and including faux kernel at stock (I was using it on Alien).
On Aura you have 3 choises to install: no blur, only blur account and all blur.
I'm using the simpliest version with no blur apps. It's pretty fast .

Agreed. I'm using Aura 1.1.3 Debloat #7. It is crazy fast, light, and has no Moto crap. My regular use of the phone with other roms burned about 5% to 7% an hour. This Aura rom has burned only 3% in an hour. I need to test it further before I can come to a conclusion, but it's looking amazing to me already.

Hate to hear that!! As far as the Battery, are you using SetCPU for UV and or Over clocking? I have some profiles set up for the CPU and have set UV as well. My phone will get hot on occassion, but usually only if I am on it for a long streatch. I am using Swiftkey X as my keyboard and have had no issues.
There is no such thing as a Best ROM.
If you asking this question, answer would be, there is none. If you really want to find out which one is "GOOD FOR YOU?" you should try flashing all the ROMs. As such, so far there is very handful of ROMs are available anyways. Flashing all of them one by one would only be a matter of a week or so.
See what you like and stick to the one.
IMO this is the best way to answer your question.

[Q] Which GB ROM?

Hello,
I have got the itch to try a GB ROM again. I'm currently running Project V and it's great, but i want some change. I tried CM7 RC1 when it first came out and couldn't deal with the horrible battery life. But I figure it's been quite a while so things may have improved since then. What would be everyone's suggestion on the best one? I don't like crazy themes or anything. I'm just looking for a stock GB look with decent battery life and stability. Thanks in advance!

Calm down now, it's nothing personal. I'm sure it runs just fine. I just like the stock GB look.
The cm7 have drastically improved battery is on part with most other GB roms. I personally love Miui revamped LE it is incredibly fast and the developers are extremely active in the forum. Along with that they update the ROM every Friday and you always think there is no way it can get better but somehow they always seem to exceed expectations

Biffmod
I personally find Simply Honey to be a bit much as well (no offense explodingboy, just not to my taste). So, leaning toward a stock-ish ROM, I recommend Biffmod Vibrant. It's basically CM7, but with a bunch of tweaks to fix the common complaints and a stock look. Here are the changes:
Features:
*Mix of AOSP/cm7 - 2.3.5
*black launcher2
*black camera
*notification widgets
*overclock capable kernel (1.7ghz)
*voodoo color and sound
*BLN/LED Notifications (on by default, the BLN app is not compatible)
*Ricktips
*glitch kernel HL thanks TK-Glitch

I've been using it ever since I switched from my HD2 to the Vibrant, and it's a dream. The only issue I've encountered is a "problem" with the overclocking: the kernel says it can go up to 1.7Ghz, but in my experience it tops out at about 1.4Ghz before the phone starts to freeze up. Other than that, like I said, it's great—I fully recommend it.

I just wanted to chime in, I've tried your rom before and it was fantastic (in fact, i think it was the first one to have bln fixed when all the other roms had broken bln). However, I was past my honeycomb theme phase and is looking for a more stock gb (or close to it) look now. I constantly search for themes for your rom that can make it look like stock but to no avail I think if you added a stock theme zip, you will be able to increase your user base by quite a significant amount of people.
It's great--I easily go a whole day with moderate to heavy Wifi usage (I don't have data) without having to plugin.

I ended up flashing Biffmod last night. It is amazing so far. So smooth and I haven't had a single issue yet. I also ended up flashing the newest Bali Kernel and have it UV'ed quite substantially. We'll see how it does on battery.
Thanks for the advice.
I personally prefer CM7 or Bionix 1.3.1
Every GB rom I've tried has not had a working GPS. I travel for a living so I need this to work. I have since gone back to 2.2 so my GPS works but out of curiosity, is there a GB rom/kernel that supports reliable GPS functionality?
I could be wrong but I think some of the gps work. GPS worked fine for me on Simply Honey 5.0, which I loved. I liked the themeing, especially the pink theme made to go with it!! I just decided to give Trigger (GB not Froyo) a try and I am equally happy with it. GPS isn't a huge issue for me, but I noticed on Trigger I get locks but they are not accurate, usually within 100ft. I also haven't tweaked any of the settings or tried any of the fixes. There are lots of great GB roms out there...just play around and see what suits you best. My Vibrant has always had great gps I've read that some GPS just don't work well on Vibrants.
I personally really like the AOSP GB Roms, Trigger, CM7 and MIUI are all great... have not tried Biffmod yet, but I intend to sometime.
Kernel-wise, I really like Glitch V11 HL
No problem!

It's not a kernel issue. It's just that your vibrant cant handle the overclock as all devices overclock and undervolt differently

Most stable rom?

Hi all,
My cousins atrix has started playing up (keyboard crashes, browser force closes etc) and ive advised that he change roms. Ive been looking though this forum for the past hour or so and am surprised to see so many roms - you guys have so much choice! (Ive got an optimus black and weve got maybe about 4 roms which is nothing compared to you guys!)
Anyway my cousin is a bit of a noob so I dont want to install a rom that will cause problems. Which rom should I install on his atrix please?
Thanks
The most recent releases of CM7, including CM7.2 RC1 and the most current nightly releases, have been pretty stable for me. I couldn't tell you about the non-CM7 ROMs (i.e. the ones based on the stock Atrix ROM) as I haven't used one for quite a while. There are several so-called CM9 ROMs out (based on ICS), but IMHO they aren't stable enough if you rely heavily on your phone, though they are getting there.

I agree - If your cousin doesn't need the fingerprint reader or webtop go with CM7 for now till the devs get the issues worked out on CM9.
Another vote for CM7. Its absolutely rock solid, and the weekly builds have fingerprint scanner support. CM9 is pretty good, but as has been mentioned its missing a few features and does have a few bugs that prevent some from being able to use it as a daily driver.
CM7 RC1 is where it's at now, no issues whatsoever for me.
Anyone know what is the progress of webtop on CM7 or 9?

I flash ROMs like crazy and I have to say Neutrino is by far the greatest rom! So what if you have to flash a few zips....thats how he made such an amazing rom...He stripped it down to the basics and you add the stuff that you want. I use the GT version but underclock to 1.00GHz most of the time...Saves battery but if I need the power, its available to me. 2.7 is out now....it has a wifi bug on the GT and GT+ versions though. You have to reflash faux's kernal to fix. Otherwise just use EE version. Its plenty fast enough without overclock.

I agree. I'm using MIUI V 2.4.27 which is based on Jokersax 0.5 CM9 build.
It is amazing. It turned my unbelievably unbearable Telstra Atrix on 2.3.4 to a device that is smoother than any other android I've used...
I'm running mine with the Atrix-CM9-Kernel-025b-ext4-1.45GHz and its stable at 1.45GHz all day every day with excellent battery life.
It's funny I get 2x the battery life on the MIUI Rooted ROM with custom kernel than I did on the Telstra 2.3.4 stock ROM.

[Q] [Considering buying] Some specific questions...

I'm really interested on the Motorola Atrix (non-AT&T's), so I've been doing some research here on XDA and other places and it seems a really good device to buy.
It has official ClockworkMod recovery (regular and touch), official CyanogenMod 7.2, a great community behind it, coming ICS to the AT&T's version (which would be useful to get some proper libs for CM9 and perhaps CM10) and the benchmark results are fairly good.
But there are some questions that remain unanswered.
I looked for videos on YouTube of the CyanogenMod 7.2 on the Atrix to evaluate the experience and smoothness, but they are all old (early in the days of unofficial builds). Also, most of them have 1.4, 1.45 or 1.5 GHz of CPU clock.
I'm interested to know how it performs with a recent official CyanogenMod 7.2 and its stock kernel at default 1 GHz of CPU clock (again, both experience and smoothnes). The stock CM kernel is 2.6.32, right?
I appreciate any feedback you guys can give me. Thanks again! :good:

Hey
I own an ATT Atrix 4G device which runs on the official stable cm7.2.
I never over/under clock my device because i hate doing that..
Its is very smooth, very quick and responsive. No lag at all.
Also there are better launchers (i.e. the touchwiz launcher) which are way more responsive then stock ADW and have absolutely no startup lag.
So long story short, it is a great device, I love it and i would suggest so buying it.
Sorry for my bad English, Nathan.
I'd invest in a different phone that doesn't overheat and doesn't lag as much as the atrix.
lags? what kind of lags? I am using official CM7 with stock kernel and it's orrery stable and fast. but sometimes I wanna go to back to blur ROM for webtop, this is one of the best features.
Thanks everyone for your answers! :good:
One more question: I found the device folder of the official CyanogenMod, but I can't find the kernel sources of the official CyanogenMod. I only found these sources, but they are not on the CyanogenMod's github. Could someone tell me where to find the official kernel sources?
As always, thanks in advance! :good:
