[Q] HowTo Root official GB (korean + US only) - Streak 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I've installed the new release of GB.
I've tried some tools like Gingerbreak, superonclick and unlockroot but I can't manage to root my Streak 5".
Before under froyo I managed to root xithout any pb but under 2.3 nothing to do.
Can someone help me and explain how to do it please ?
Thx

just flash the superuser.zip file from your SD card

Thanks for your answer but When I've done it all happens perfectly except after reboot my streak was still not rooted ...
I will try again and post the result but it a bit strange. What I do :
1- install clockworkmod with fastboot -> ok
2- reboot under clockworkmod
3- select update from *.pkg
4- install a *.zip file
5- selected superuser.zip
6- I was told superuser's package was well installed
7- reboot
Is there someting else to do ?
Thx

Your first problem is trying to use CWM. It doesn't work well on Streaks. StreakMod Recovery is designed for the device and you should be using it. Flash StreakMod and follow the directions given in the thread titled "Everything you always wanted to know about the Streak but were too busy bricking it".

Hi,
I re-installed superuser 3.0.7 and now it woks, I've rooted my streak.
The error I've done was to install 3.0.7 but .... for Donut (1.6)... sorry.
I confirm with my method it works.
Thx very much

As long as you got it working it doesn't matter so much how you got there.

[Q] cant get into clockwork mod on vibrant

Ok this is probably a noob question,
i have a vibrant 2.2 tmobile, i just did the 3e recovery mod so that i could root the phone, i finally got it rooted and Im positive it is (terminal emulator says # when i type su,and superuser is working so Im pretty sure its rooted) so when i go into rom manager and flash clockworkmod recovery it always says it works but i cant get into the new recovery only the stock and i cant backup my original rom, does anyone know how to fix this so i can get into clockworkmod recovery?
Im new to rooting so sorry if this is a extremely noob question.
from stock recovery, select "reinstall packages"
I tried reinstalling the packages from the stock recovery but it takes me back to the stock recovery, Ive tried that many times but i never get the clockworkmod recovery, i have no idea why it wont enter the clockworkmod recovery? Can i install it without rom manager?
Download "update.zip" that is attached to this post....place it on the ROOT of your sdcard (not in any folders)
now this is the voodoo edition of clockwork....we are going to want to disable this to avoid issues (sorry, i dont have a normal clockwork available). so also download the disable voodoo .zip attached to this post.
DONT UNZIP EITHER FILE. DOWNLOAD THEM, AND PLACE THEM BOTH ON YOUR SDCARD AS IS!!
follow these instructions exactly:
1. place both files on root of sd
2. reboot into stock recovery
3. "reinstall packages"
3a. if it brings the red clockwork recovery, move onto step 4.
3b. if you dont see clockworkmod, choose reinstall packages again...if you see it move onto step 4.
3c. if you still dont see it, i cant help you further
4. now that you are in clockwork, DONT REBOOT OR FLASH ANYTHING YET, we need to disable voodoo
5. in clockwork choose "install zip from sdcard"
6. choose "choose zip from sdcard"
7. scroll to the disable voodoo zip and select that...confirm install, select "yes"
8. it should take less than a second, youll see "installation complete". (if you see "installation aborted" dont worry, just move on with the steps...see my explanation below)
9. Reboot before flashing anything, very important
10. you are now ready to flash using clockwork mod
PS - im not sure if youre familiar with voodoo, what it is/how it works....but the disable voodoo zip is just a precaution. im not sure if voodoo is built into this edition of clockwork, or if you actually have to have a voodoo kernel to actually be able to activate it. even though i think you need to have a compatible kernel, its better to play it safe.
with that said THERE IS A POSSIBLILTY THAT WHEN YOU FLASH THE DISABLE VOODOO, YOU MAY GET "INSTALLATION ABORTED"....dont worry continue on with teh steps, that just means that voodoo does not actually exist for you, which is probably ideal anyway
It still didn't work, i must be doing something Ive tried everything but it just wont go to clockworkmod.

Have you tried the toolbox?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=954509
No i haven't tried toolbox yet but ill give it a shot.
I had a similar issue...
Are you getting the error "signature verification failed"?
No I haven't gotten a single error message, i flash clockworkmod recovery and it says success, I reboot into recovery i get the stock recovery, so Ive tried reinstall packages several times and i never get an error message although when I do hit reinstall packages it goes through in like 2 seconds but It never lets me into clockworkmod.
Use AIO Toolbox (recomended) -> install USB Vibrant drivers (if you don't have them, included with AIO Toolbox) and flash stock 2.1 rom (included in AIO Toolbox), after that use rom manager (from market) and install clockwork recovery, then download any kernel (for 2.1 rom of course) with root and flash it thru already installed CWM or flash ANY rooted custom rom - that's all (and it will take about 0,5h - not big deal).
toolbox is the way to go it will do everything for you just simply follow the steps from top to bottom. and you will be fine but before you go with tool box do read the noob guide it will surely make u understand the functionality of the toolbox. good luck
Hmmm......
Ok ill give that a try hopefully that will work.

This is the issue I am getting, even when using the files mentioned on this post.
How did you solve this problem?
EDIT: Just used the AIO Toolkit, restored to stock, rooted, installed ROM Manager, then went ahead and installed my custom ROM! HoneyGinger is talking to me and getting itself set up. Lovely!
Hey guys,
I was running 2.2 on my vibrant and was having issues with cwm as well. I followed the advice here and it worked great. Flashed Nero v3 and my phone is running like a champ!
Thanks again to everyone for their expertise.

... If you used flashback ROM then you need to reroot and reinstall the bootloader.
If you go back to the Flashback fourm where you got the flashback you will see it says "
Please Note: THE RECOVERY BOOT PARTITION IS REPLACED BY THE MATCHING VERSION OF THE STOCK RECOVERY PARTITION (V2: March 2011 OTA; V1: July 2010 OTA) in this ROM. This means that you will need to re-root your phone if you use this ROM, should you later decide that you want to restore a different ROM." http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=792026
To fix:
1 Download j-case's recently modded 1-click root app modded by scary alien. You can get this from the following link and scroll to Scenario 5. This will also install amon-ra recovery that Scary alien modified for track-ball optional.... yes.. it's goofy trackball friendly
http://androidforums.com/eris-all-things-root/214240-amon_ra-1-6-2-custom-recovery-trackball-not-required.html
2. Be sure you have the setting checked to allow 3rd party apps to be installed in Settings>applications, copy the 1-click to your sd card and using astro or another file manager install the app and run it.
3. Reboot into your freshly installed recovery and flash your favorite ROM and enjoy having no more 3g data drops.

Ditto on what computerfreek told you.
The graphic with the triangle and the red exclamation point is the splash screen of the HTC stock recovery - it is exactly what you would expect to see after flashing the "FlashBack21" ROM... the purpose of which is to return a phone to a stock condition... just as it plainly states in that ROM's thread.
If you need further convincing, press Vol-up+End after you see that "triangle & red exclamation point" graphic, and you will see the STOCK <2e> recovery menu.
If you want to run the completely stock final HTC release for the Eris, while leaving the custom recovery in place, then flash the March2011_OTA_Reference ROM, i.e.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=984274
You would do his after re-rooting your phone (re-installing a custom recovery) as computerfreek describes.

PS kinda hard to believe this thread was necessary.

[Q] Cannot install Cyanogen... Confused with all the infos!!

I know it's been adressed many times in different ways, but the info I found yet is not clear so I need a little help! I am trying to install the latest stable Cyanogen mod, using Gingerbread 2.3.7.
I have a Galaxy SII from Bell that I rooted and unlocked when I got it last november. It came on 2.3.3 and I flashed an official 2.3.4 on it, mainly to improve the battery life (and it worked). I did that using Odin and it went well.
Now I try to install Cyanogen mod through ClockworkMod ROM manager, I download and launch the install from ROM manager but on restart the install fails because of the classic 3E recovery message that says the whole signature cannot be verified.
I was having doubts if my phone was even rooted, but since it is still unlocked and software like Titanium backup runs fine, I guess that confirms it!! I am not sure what route to take from here...
Right now here are the phone details...
GT-i9100 on 2.3.4, FW I9100XXKG2, Kernet 2.6.35.7-I9100XXKG2-CL375027 [email protected] #2
I'll appreciate any help!!!!!!

|Question = Q&A
Looks like you are yet another that has not followed the instructions and flashed a cwm and root kernel .
Root + CWM .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
OR are not following the instructions posted .
First time flashing CyanogenMod 7 to the Samsung Galaxy S II, or coming from another ROM?
Root the device and install ClockworkMod Recovery. Instructions are available here.
Perform a NANDroid backup of your current ROM.
Format the system, data & cache partitions of your device.
Perform a factory reset.
Flash CyanogenMod.
Clockwork mod recovery see
NEW HERE

The instructions work as i have just installed by following the instructions in reply to an exact same post .

Thanks jje... The instructions did work! Tough I tought I had bricked my phone at one point, on the final restart it would get stuck at the Samsung logon screen, but I forced it back in recovery, re-flashed from the zip and then it booted in CyanogenMod!!!
I really appreciate your reply

Can't isntall gapps after ICS installation

I've just installed ICS on my legend following this procedure:
- unbranded it using a gold card
- downgrade version to root it
- launch step 1 of rooting (works fine at first attempt)
- launch step 2 of rooting (can't find device at first attemp, so reconnect it, launch adb device, find the device and perform it)
Then wipe and instead select rootedupdate.zip I've selected update.zip that was the file containg the ICS rom downloaded here in forum. And I think this could be part of the problem. (Is the phone rooted anyway?)
ICS was succesfully installed and working but as I try to install google apps with ROM manager is not working, it reboot the phone, see the screen with the phone and the question mark.
I also tryed to instal google paly downloading the package, installation works but as I open the app it closes.
Do you have any suggestion? Do I have to perform the rooting procedure again or what?
Thanks
I just tried to instal gapps with recovery mode, renaming file "update.zip" and it said that installation was accomplished, but I see no differences. And the Google Play still have the same behaviour
I think I can't install any rom. Tryed with this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1531222&highlight=lost
and always get phone+? icon after reboot and nothing happend
On the terminal emulator I have $ sign instead #. So isn't it rooted right? And can't flash ROM for that reason?
Do I have to do the root procedure again? Can I do it with ICS or do I have to perform downgrade again?

[Q] Rooted - or not

Hello to everyone
I am the proud owner of a galaxy S3 - i9300 since couple of days (got s2 before) and I would like to install a custom rom. Right now it is official JB. So first I tried to follow the guide from here the galaxys3root.com - galaxys3root.com/galaxy-s3-root/how-to-root-galaxy-s3-jelly-bean-or-ics
I finished installing, everything said ok but SuperSU said "“There is no SU binary installed, and SuperSU cannot install it. This is a problem!”. However I was able to enter recovery mode and see that cwm was installed. I repeated the procedure - same result. I tried using the CF-Auto-Root-m0-m0xx-gti9300.tar.md5, it said ok, finished, all green but again i had no root access (cwm still there, root checker said no root and supersu dissappeared).
The ultimate goal for me is to install CM11 rom with kitkat. So please clear some things for me (almost beginner level):
1. do i really need root from now on?
2. can i just reboot into recovery, wipe data/factory reset and install ROM? (all from the device, no odin)
3. is it a better solution to flash stock firmware through odin and start rooting all over again ?
4. Why don't I have root access since I followed all the indicated steps?
One detail that might matter is that now my cwm is version 5.5.0.4 CF v.1.5
Thank you for any help (and again, beginner+1 language please)
Visit CM and CF autoroot site you will find the answer to your questions.
All you need to install CM is recovery, so if you can get into that you are golden and don't need root on your current rom because its going to be over written with CM anyway
Thank you for your replies!
IOU-1, I did some research over the internet and I still do but I'm looking for some straight-on answers right now.
Darke5tShad0w, thanks for your help - right now I have cwm 5.5.0.4 - can you point me towards how to update to newer one? (I cannot do it through play store since I don't have root access).
Ok, I've found the cwm update: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2052091 I think this should work.

Try this since your goal is to install CM-ROM http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/CyanogenMod_Installer
Sorry I dont have alot of time today to be able to find you a link for the updated version.
Few things you can do here,
Use the link IOU-1 posted, I forgot about this yesterday then update CWM with rom manager
Try to flash cm with current CWM, if it works update it with rom manager
Search the forums and find the correct cwm post and update manually
Ok, thanks to everyone for their answers.
I fixed it and I'll say how so anyone in my position will do the same.
As a reminder, I tried to root but all I succeded to do is get cwm installed but no root (so no rom manager or any other root app installed).
What i did was to update cwm manually from within it, with zip install from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2052091
After that I simply installed CM11 - zip install - and now I have root and everything is running smoothly.
Again thanks - and good luck to all.
