Can't isntall gapps after ICS installation - Legend Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've just installed ICS on my legend following this procedure:
- unbranded it using a gold card
- downgrade version to root it
- launch step 1 of rooting (works fine at first attempt)
- launch step 2 of rooting (can't find device at first attemp, so reconnect it, launch adb device, find the device and perform it)
Then wipe and instead select rootedupdate.zip I've selected update.zip that was the file containg the ICS rom downloaded here in forum. And I think this could be part of the problem. (Is the phone rooted anyway?)
ICS was succesfully installed and working but as I try to install google apps with ROM manager is not working, it reboot the phone, see the screen with the phone and the question mark.
I also tryed to instal google paly downloading the package, installation works but as I open the app it closes.
Do you have any suggestion? Do I have to perform the rooting procedure again or what?
Thanks

I just tried to instal gapps with recovery mode, renaming file "update.zip" and it said that installation was accomplished, but I see no differences. And the Google Play still have the same behaviour

I think I can't install any rom. Tryed with this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1531222&highlight=lost
and always get phone+? icon after reboot and nothing happend

On the terminal emulator I have $ sign instead #. So isn't it rooted right? And can't flash ROM for that reason?
Do I have to do the root procedure again? Can I do it with ICS or do I have to perform downgrade again?

[Q] recovery mod

Hey guys,
I am doing this rom flash for a mate of mine.
I am trying to flash the tastyginger rom, but i am having some real difficulties while flashing the rom.
He has a dutch htc hero from hi. He has the latest rom according to the update utility thingy. it is the 2.1-update1 version. i believe i've read something about nand locks, and i think his phone has exactly that. the first step to flash a new rom is to root the phone. Rooting the phone works, gives no errors.
But when i try to flash the recovery image, it says it cant find the flash_image file.
it is should be located in the system folder on the phone but it isn't. i've tried to install it with android sdk, but the thing just is really acting weird. htc sync isn't working with the phone. it says there isn't a phone in the usb.
Now to make it clear, can somebody give me a clear tutorial on how to flash the thing correctly? I've done this before on my hd2. i've flashed the cyanogen 2.6 rom to my phone.
have you tried rom manager to flash rom its the easiest way i know. the way i rooted was with universal androot apk then installed rom manager clicked on flash clockworkmod recovery then went to install rom from sd card in rom manager scrolled down to the rom i wanted to flash choice it and pressed ok i then select backup existing rom and wipe data and cache and pressed ok then it will ask reboot and install and press ok and let it do its thing then wait untill it reboots and it should of installed rom which you wait to boot should have a custom splash screen that comes up and wait until your prompted to input details and such. hope this helps.
hey, thanks for the advice.
i let him try this method, but when he chose the htc hero gsm to install the cwm, the app refused to install it and gave this error message:An error occured while attempting to run privileged commands.
I forget to mention that the method you posted, that we already tried it.
But thanks for the effort!
pretty certain this is the tut. i used, i also had to use the gold card method -.-;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=645253
rom manager has been down lately everyone has had trouble flashing clockwork recovery, but ra recovery second from bottom is a secondary choice however other features of rom manager might not work if you use this you will have to boot into recovery manually.you also need super user to use this as well.
http://zenthought.org/content/project/flashrec
Use this apk, i have always used this method!
Download clockwork or ra recovery rename it to recovery.img and copy to sdcard
Backup recovery with flashrec
then type sdcard/recovery.img
flash recovery and done!
I've done the recovery succesfully at the guys phone. It works bloody well. Thanks dudes! You can lock it up if you want to.

[Q] Having a problem with my x10i

Have been trying to upgrade my x10i, have been having a problem with getting xrecovery installed as I know it requires it, it came with it installed but with only 2.2 android system installed .
I have managed to install this version X10i_3.0.1.G.0.75_1241-1846 ( 233mb odd ), which i got from one of the treads here, installed it to get me out of having a soft bricked phone, so the base band is now .71 while android v is now 2.3.3.
Only real problem is that i cannot seem to install xrecovery, or get into recovery mode. Does anybody have a ftf file that installs xrecovery so that i can then look at installing one of the nice roms on here
does anybody otherwise know how to install xrecovery to a x10 without it already?
I have been looking on here but have had not much luck except from almost knackering my phone, and ending up till about 3.30 in the morning getting it back up and running, so any ideas would be appreciated.
also flashtool doesnt seem to detect the phone, when booting into flash mode except from when flashing a file.
I think that its rooted, via superuser installed, plus have also installed busybox, as i know thats also meant to be installed.
If you put into Google download xreocovery.apk you can install it that way make sure you have busybox installed

Go watch this video!
youtube.com/watch?v=a56GSx8DcEE
That is the DooMLord method.
Helped me get my 2.3 phone rooted and put xrecovery.
2.3.3 gingerbread needs to be flashed to a phone that uses root with xrec, superuser, and busybox installed and working before trying to flash.
As far as I know you can't root 2.3.3.
When trying to install xrec what happens, does it ask for supeuser
permission?
If the pc dosent detect the phone u must only have pluged in the phone on usb,sry4my english:d

ok, got this far, managed to get xrecovery 0.3 installed, after getting access to root and busybox installed.
now trying to install the wolf gb 3.5 rom installed it says this error:
installing : sdcard : wolf_gb_2.3_tw_v3.5.zip
finding update package....
e: can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (or /dev/block/mmcb1k0)
(Device or resource busy)
E: cant mount sdcard:wolf_gb_2.3_tw_v3.5.zip
installation aborted
i then find that the card has has been unmounted, and cannot be remounted unless i reboot, any ideas?
Have also tried to use the restore method for a couple of the roms here that that comes up with error:
e: can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (or /dev/block/mmcb1k0)
(Device or resource busy)
cant mount /sdcard
Did you backup your rom, system reset, wipe cache, wipe data.
Watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zHBYJW2verg&feature=feedu_more
edit: You should still have the rom in tact on the phone.
When I say wipe and reset that = format in xrec.
Yep done all that, its xrecovery im having a problem with, i cant figure out how to update, tried copying over to phone with write access, no luck, cant even figure out about the shell as i dont see anything for it, so cant run commands, im really getting naffed off about this now as been spending nite and day trying to figure it out with no luck
You didn't watch the video did you, save you and me some time and watch it!
I need to know a few things.
1. Can you you boot into recovery? 2. do you have a way of copying files to your phone. 3. have you the kernel, Bb, Rom and any tweaks and fixes you want, downloaded. 4. What rom are you running on your phone and does it work. 5. Do you have PC Companion, Update Service, and Flashtool installed on you PC.
Why are you talking about shell, commands, and write access. you don't need any of that.
Settle down... watch the video, it's only 14 mins.
Hi guy. The first thing I want to say is there are two way to root from Android 2.3.3:
- Downgrade to Android 2.1 and root then install custom ROM but it's just an Android 2.1 with Android 2.3.3 baseband and kernel to run with custom ROM.
- Root from Android 2.3.3 and till now just one method is working.
I think that its rooted, via superuser installed, plus have also installed busybox, as i know thats also meant to be installed.

You did the wrong way.
This is root method and install xRecovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1196808&page=1
And I will say that the BusyBox installer will not help you to install xRecovery. It will not work. So, you have to do like that method and watch video if you want.

Problem too big for a Noob

I have tried to Root my Vibrant on the UVKB5 update for a while now.
One Touch Root, says "no space on device", yet declares the phone rooted (su commands do not work).
Applications that require root, though, do work the su binary is always outdated and cannot be updated because "cannot find installed su binary".
This was found when I tried to boot into Clockwork Mod but only ended up in recovery mode - I downloaded the e3 fix that told me "the system cannot find the path specified. temp root failed! install cannot continue." All Try agains and Reboot and Try Agains result in the same answer.
I don't want to go back to JFD because I've done it before with a CyanogenMod with SGSII and everything crashed.
But if I did go to JFD, could I install CyanogenMod 7 the same? (the instructions assume I have the UVKB5 update)
Help.... please?!
Thanks!
i believe CM is like miui...as in the way of flashing it on the vibrant. u can either flash it from eclair 2.1 or froyo 2.2. as long as u can boot into recovery. but if u flash it from 2.1 u might have to pull out the battery then reflash from the new recovery since it bootloops...hope that helps.. i actually read how to install it..have u tried flashing project v which is a uvkb5?? then CM??that could be an easier way since project v is already rooted.
Sent from my Vibrant
I kinda wanna just install cyanogenmod...
all u have to do is this
1) root
2) install rom manager (free) from market
3) install cwm from rom manager
4) click reboot in recovery from rom manager(it will ask for root access)
5) reinstall package(u may have to repeat this step twice
6) put a custom rom of ur choice CM7 or miui
7) install it ....THAT'S IT....

Did you even read my original post.
My phone is only half rooted. Clockwork won't open and the e3 fix can't find root.
I know what to do, I was reading the instructions.
Have you tried to update your Superuser app in the market? If you download it and install the update you might get a parse error or something that says it can't update the binaries. Scroll down in the market link for Superuser and there is an Update Fixer. Install and run that and then rerun/update the Superuser app.
Sounds like your binaries are out of date. This shoud fix it. Might also want to go to settings>manage apps>Superuser and clear cache/data. Once you update the SU, you'll have to re-grant permission anyways so clearing data shouldn't be an issue.
If that fails try to re-root is with Option A here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=849028 There are two options here. Choose before you start.
A: Download this update.zip file to root your phone. You plan to install Rom Manager to flash CWR and a new ROM later.

That is not the problem. Installed Update Fixer. Signatures are "OK!". Force, just force closes the app.
A: I can't flash through CWR, as mentioned in my OP.
Looks like I'm going to have to start over again and just ODIN through this..

I did read your OP and it says this. If you update your SU then the binaries will update too with the fixer. The you can download CWR from the market, reinstall it, grant SU permission and flash away. Try going into settings>manage apps>superuser and clear cache/data. If you are only half rooted as you say, then first thing to do us get full root back, eh? Good luck.

Thanks for all the help, but in the end I did man up and went back to stock JFD and now Cyanogen mod runs amazingly. And the MMS that didn't use to work on my phone -does!
Google Apps didn't install properly and I had to re-install the rom 'cause i was impatient.
Love it now though... and google thinks I have a nexus s. ^^

[Q] HowTo Root official GB (korean + US only)

Hi,
I've installed the new release of GB.
I've tried some tools like Gingerbreak, superonclick and unlockroot but I can't manage to root my Streak 5".
Before under froyo I managed to root xithout any pb but under 2.3 nothing to do.
Can someone help me and explain how to do it please ?
Thx
refer here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Dell_Streak/Flashing_Guide#Rooting_your_phone
just flash the superuser.zip file from your SD card
Thanks for your answer but When I've done it all happens perfectly except after reboot my streak was still not rooted ...
I will try again and post the result but it a bit strange. What I do :
1- install clockworkmod with fastboot -> ok
2- reboot under clockworkmod
3- select update from *.pkg
4- install a *.zip file
5- selected superuser.zip
6- I was told superuser's package was well installed
7- reboot
Is there someting else to do ?
Thx
Your first problem is trying to use CWM. It doesn't work well on Streaks. StreakMod Recovery is designed for the device and you should be using it. Flash StreakMod and follow the directions given in the thread titled "Everything you always wanted to know about the Streak but were too busy bricking it".
Hi,
I re-installed superuser 3.0.7 and now it woks, I've rooted my streak.
The error I've done was to install 3.0.7 but .... for Donut (1.6)... sorry.
I confirm with my method it works.
Thx very much
As long as you got it working it doesn't matter so much how you got there.

[Q] Help with IWT ROM on B92M

Hello Xda,
I'm having an issue when installing IWT rom on my B92M 1GB 2012 version.
I had another rom with 4.1.2 from this forum. And my steps were:
1.) First i have flashed the phone with the 4.1.2 stock rom (b92m411GB.zip from the forum)- via flashtool - Download mode not Firmware upgrade(doesn't work with upgrade)
2.) All good. The rom installed, booted, everything seems to work.
3.) Installed the archive that roots the device from recovery.
4.) Then i have copied IWT UNIVERSAL BASIC ROM FOR 2012 MODELS on my card and installed it via recovery. (wipe dalvik and factory reset after that)
5.) All good. The rom installed, booted, everything seems to work well.
BUT
Then i have copied the IWT ROM VERSION 1.3.1 FOR 1GB 2012 MODELS on the external card and try to install this one via RECOVERY, the phone updates and when i reboot the phone freezes at the IWT boot screen (i have waited almost 2-3 minutes and the phone was vibrating from 2 and 2 seconds regularly - this happened once and when i saw nothing happens so i removed the battery). The thing is that he freezes at boot after update.
My questions are:
1. Are those the right steps to update to this rom?
2. Can anyone make a detailed step-by-step guide or a video tutorial (this would solve many other's problems)
3. Now i'm running b92m411GB.zip (stock) with IWT UNIVERSAL BASIC ROM FOR 2012 MODELS update. i have also installed on the phone OTA UPDATE. And it says there are no updates for this rom. Where i'm mistaking?
(With this version that i use now, wifi works, Bt also, i didn't have time to test the GPS)
4. What is the last IWT rom last version? Where can i find it?
Thank you in advance!
No one can help?
Anyone any ideeas?
I have found a solution
1. First of all you need to install via flash tool the clean rom for B92M
2. Then via recovery install: iwtv1-1.zip
3. Boot the system
4. Reboot in recovery and install: iwtv1-2.zip
5. Boot the system again
6. After boot and system started, reboot again in recovery
7. Now install the last archive from recovery also: iwtv1.3.1.zip
8. After it finishes you should be able to boot in system (IWT 1.3.1).
9. After it started you can now install the 1.4. via OTA updater
REMEMBER
After every update of system you should restart the system and let it boot in system.
