Just flashed CM7.2. Can I now just simply flash joker's 1.3 kernal? Also, I cannot sync my gmail contacts, only corporate exchange contacts. There is also no market app. Forgive me, i am fairly new to this but i'm loving it. Thanks.

Yes, you simply flash jokers 1.3 OC over top of cm 7.2, just don't forget to make a backup first in case something goes wrong.
As far as gmail contacts, have you checked to make sure sync is enabled under Accounts and Sync in Settings? I think I had a similar problem before and that was my issue.
And finally, did you flash gapps as well? That should contain your Market. Have you been successful in setting up your Gmail account on the phone?

Ah ok, never did flash the gapps. That explains it thanks a lot. Yeah, gmail set up fine i just cant find an option to sync the contacts and yes sync contacts is enabled. OK, i will flash gapps and 1.3 OC now. Already backed up stock and CM 7.2 roms.

Be sure to keep in mind that the first time you boot after you flash a kernel it will take longer than normal to boot. Good luck!

OK thanks man. The contacts thing was fixed by flashing the gapps and signing into my gmail account properly.

Some Photons/Electrifys wont be stable at 1.4. Make a nandroid backup and give it a shot; worst case you restore and use the 1.3 kernal.
Edit: and battery life. Going up another 100mhz requires another 100mv of power, iirc.

I am getting ready to flash my first rom on my rooted aria and have a few questions and clarifications. I am considering liberated R012 or FR007. Thank you in advance for your help.
Based on what I have read, if I flash FR007 HTC Sync will no longer work. If so, how would you sync Outlook contacts and calendar events with FR007?
If I flash R012, will HTC Sync continue to work and sync Outlook the same as it does with the stock rom?
If I backup all user apps + system data with Titanium Backup Free version before flashing the new rom, would I simply restore missing apps + system data from Titanium after flashing the new rom to completely restore all of my previous applications and data?
Since I am flashing a rom for the first time, do I need to wipe data, cache and dalvik cache in clockwork before flashing the new rom?

1. Can you link to what you have read? As far as I know, Sync will work with FR007 and I'm basing that off of this. FR007 is just a liberated froyo rom. HTC Sync will not work with cyanogen based ROMs.
2. Should do.
3. Yes.
4. I believe the answer to this is yes. It will not hurt if you do as long as you back up your apps and stuff like that. Otherwise you'll need to redownload everything.

Hi zervic, thanks for your response. You may be right that FR007 and HTC Sync are compatible. The post I read is at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=840242. It says "HTC Sync will only work with HTC Roms". I read that to mean that it would not work with FR007. Perhaps someone else will confirm this.

FR007 is an HTC Sense ROM, so HTC Sync should work.
Pretty simple question, i want to upgrade to the latest build by mik. Will this basically wipe everything that isnt on my SD card ? i.e. everything on my desktop, all my settings, all my apps etc.
thanks.
Yes, you will have to wipe everything...
If you want, you can backup your data with apps like "Titanium Backup" or something like those...
U will lost all ur settings,sms,contacts,apps..nd u will lost ur data in sd bcoz u hv to do partition for aps2sd..Its recommrnded to do backup of all ur apps, contacts, sms, nandroid before flashing
oh ok. so ill install apps2sd, move all my apps across, backup contacts and what i can with titanium , flash.
what is this google sync business with contacts ??
so i just flashed to the latest, and its booted back in, and everything is still on my desktop ? like nothing got erased.
i did a full batch titanium backup. did it automatically restore everthing ? even my desktop settings ?? im lost

Haha so luckily you got me and my patience on your thread lol and you questions are simple yeah but not short to answer!
For your question, yes! flashing any rom will exactly wipe EVERYTHING on your phone.
BUT IF YOU ARE UPGRADING FROM OLDER VERSIONS OF MIK'S 2.3 ROM, it will NOT wipe anything except your google/facebook accounts information.
By the way, for the manual action of "wiping", it depends what android version you are at.
If you are using Froyo 2.2 NOW, yes wipe everything on the list of your custom recovery.
If you are using Gingerbread 2.3 NOW, then you dont have to wipe anything except [cache] and [dalvik cache]. <- You must wipe these two!

I dont get what you mean by "install apps2sd". But whatever you shouldn't do that before flashing a rom. If you mean the Non-froyo App2SD+ (What the hell is non-froyo a2sd?), you should flash it AFTER you have flashed the rom in order to let it activate in the new rom.
Yes. backup all the things with titanium is necessary.
For the google contacts syncing. It is a service provided by Google and it is for you to sync the contacts between your Gmail and your phone. So you can view all your contacts anywhere. You can sync your contacts to gmail and then after rom flashing, the contacts are gone. Simply login back to gmail with the newly flashed rom and then click auto-sync. All of your contacts will be back after a couple of minutes.
But remember one extra point, its sort of a new feature in gingerbread but BE SURE TO UNTICK THE OPTION OF "BACKUP MY DATA ETC TO MY GOOGLE ACCOUNT" after you login your gmail with android 2.3. Why? It actually doesn't backup your data (well for me, i couldnt see it anywhere) but DUPLICATES YOUR MESSAGES WITH NO REASON!

IF YOU ARE UPGRADING FROM ANDROID 2.2 FROYO
NO. After you flash, every single thing will be GONE COMPLETELY. You will have to perform a titanium batch restore to get everything back in order.
IF YOU ARE UPGRADING FROM ANDROID 2.3 GINGERBREAD (older versions of mik's rom)
Then Yes everything is still on your "desktop" (I think you meant launcher) and ALL SETTINGS WILL REMAIN. However in some cases, home screen widgets will have problems and you will have to place them again. Information in widgets (such as your city for weather widgets, your to-do-list widgets) are NOT BE ABLE TO BACK UP USING TITANIUM OR ANY OTHER METHODS. So make sure you have written down what you have wrote in your widgets!
And finally if you have missed or made mistakes in any step, dont panic! You can always restore your phone back with KDZ UPDATER (Picture guide in this link)!
And when you are using mik's rom, and you would like to have a try on franco.Kernel which provides excellent performance, dont forget to discuss them in the thread The fantastic combination of mik_os' CM7 and franco.Kernel!!
Hope I was clear enough and if any parts of my post have helped you, dont forget to hit the thanks button at the bottom of my post
Good luck! Happy playing with mik's roms!
Thanks alot, makes it clearer.
I will definitely put francos kernel on, the phone still could do with some imporvement in performance.
next thing i need to learn about is the launcher. is it essentially just the UI ?

erm for the launcher its totally simple - ur phone can have multiple launchers, but you usually only use one. and they gives you the app drawer and some screens for you to place your shortcuts and widgets. how are they? what are their performances? differ on different launchers. they all can simple be found on the market, and after installation you will be able to choose the one you want to use, by clicking the home button.
ADW launcher and Launcher Pro being the most famous ones and you may try GO Launcher as some people are using and appreciating it too.
new users if i have given some help you know what to do and happy androiding.
Ok, so I have been waiting for ICS patiently since I got my phone and didn't want to jump to any other rom but I am going to have 2 weeks off work and I know I will want to try and flash something out of boredom.
Few questions...
Switching from Stock Rooted to Unnamed
1. If I want to keep all my saved game/app info I just need to do Titanium Backup of user apps correct?
2. Will I have a problem playing MKV, AVI on the stock player, and will TW widgets like Picture Gallery work?
3. And if I do not like UnNamed (doubt I wont like it) do I just need to do a CWM recover to go back to exactly where I was then restore my apps/games from Titanium?
My main concern is loosing anything, thanks in advance for the help and I will make sure to hit that thanks button.

If you backup with Tibu before installing the rom, just be sure to only restore missing apps with data. Don't install any system apps or system data. I think you need pro version for that feature.

UnNamed is based on stock. You should be able to run anything that you can run on stock. You'll still have tw unless you change it. The widgets will work.

If you first install a CWM enabled kernel, you can make a nandroid backup before you flash the rom, and then return to stock plus CWM enabled kernel from the nandroid backup. After that, you could even flash the stock kernel back if you wanted. In this case, your current configuration would be retained.
Made the switch earlier than I thought.
Thanks for the answers, when I get home ill play with it some more.
One additional factor about unnamed is because its based on Stock you can still use Samsung Kies for backup/restore...Now I have moved on to ICS'd ROM from Task and you cannot use the USB kies.
This becomes even more enticing now that gtg has posted the 2.0.0 Unnamed update and it includes much of the animation that is in ICS. Now I think there is even a 2.0.0a that included the latest Entropy daily.

Yea I wish I waited one more day before flashing, but I will use 1.3.2 for a few days.
Should I update to Entropy or Siyah latest kernal or I should leave it at what 1.3.2 came with?
At least I realized how easy it is to actually flash and retain all my stuff.
Missed call logs but I got the app just now, kinda really needed that and rejected list.
I had the same question. Easy answer is that you can flash UnNamed 2.0.0 right over the 1.3.2. using the zip on your SD and CWM. That way you can just continue and don't have to reset/install anything. Worked like a charm. Don't know about call logs. Didn't matter to me. Finally, you can easily flash updated kernels like the Entropy ones.
I think he recommended to format 1.3.2 to install 2.0, but I flashed over and it was fine.
gtg started out recommending factory update and wipe but it's playing out that you can just install, what is is now, 2.1.1 right over 1.3.2 and there have been no issues on that account. gtg is putting an incredible amount of work into this.
Help guys. I rooted a buddys fascinate. Had a backup but I accidentally wiped that too.
We were comparing phones and I had him run Quadrant and using ROM Toolbox I had him slide his CPU all the way up. Phone reboots now about a minute after you boot into the phone. Not enough time as its still loading/media scanning to get to the app and turn sliders back down.
I thought ADB would work through CWM and I could pull the app but that didn't work.
I flashed the same kernel (KGB over a touchwiz ROM) on top of it hoping it would reset but no luck.
What are my options?

i have. it still reboots about a minute after booting - i assume because ROM Toolbox is still there trying to set CPU?
Edit: also, i'm a little surprised i wasn't able to ADB through recovery? It was on the same laptop i rooted it with so I'm sure the drivers are there. Wire is OK as I was browsing the SD card.
Edit #2: ok i'm losing my eyesight. last night i saw a link to a stock eh03 kernel I was going to try. I figure if the kernel doesn't support OC'ing, i could get in. uninstall the app and flash the KGB kernel back. can you point me to the stock kernel or at least one w/out OC'ing support?
(hes running TSM EH03 btw)

Also one thing you could try is going into the sd card via pc and deleting the rom tool box app in system/app folder. I have not tried this before...so it may or may not work! You can try flashing the stock kernel, but Im not sure if that will do anything either. Never really been in this situation since I keep all my stuff backed up.

No because the kernel dont overwrite the app data...your OC app(rom tool box) still has the voltage script written in the initd folder and the stock eh03 kernel is capable of being OC'd...so nothing will change there.

Voltages? I didn't change voltages. Just CPU Sliders. Think the nstools reset zip might work?
Also, I followed you guide to flash TSM, so I'm pretty sure its running CWM 2.5.1 (its all red). Shouldn't I be able to adb in through recovery and take out the init.d script/modify text values for the CPU/Pull the ROM Toolbox apk/etc?

Im sorry I meant mhz not voltage lol...
scratch the sd card idea, you cant access the system from pc.
If you are familiar with adb, then yes I believe what you said above will work. One thing tho, stock kernels do not support init.d scripts. So if your on the stock kernel, the rom toolbox app must be applying the OC on boot. I think your best shot is to pull the RTB.apk via adb.

I haven't tried stock kernel yet. So if it doesn't support init.d, and thats how its being set - seems a valid theory that flashing it would get me back into being able to boot OK.
Whats RTB.apk?
And any ideas as to why I can't adb in when in recovery? Just a driver issue you think? I used the same laptop to root his phone so i figured drivers would be good, so I didn't explore that much last night. USB Mount worked OK obviously.

(ROM TOOL BOX. APK) lol
If rom tool box is setting the OC at boot and not using init.d script, then no flashing a stock kernel wont fix it.
The samsung driver you used wont work with adb, you need the nexus google driver. A simple Google search will pull it up.
Fyi, the next time you run into issues, a full detailed writeup on the devices setup and exact methods used to get there would help alot.

hello everyone
i upgraded my evo 3d to ics last night. i did a full system backup using 4ext before the upgrade (incase i wanted to go back to gb) but i forgot to backup my contacts to a vcard and i added a lot of numbers since the last vcard backup which will be lost to me
my question is can i use my backup from gb rom to restore my contacts (and/or apps) to ics?
i installed 4ext on ics too and when i choose the backup there are options to restore boot, system, data and cache which one(s) should i choose?
i also have some general questions.
1: facebook imported pictures of my contacts are low res, i had this on gb and still have it on ics. how can i fix this?
2: why doesn't the delivery report notification on the notification bar disappear on its ownafter a while? (it does on my friend's sensation xe) it stays there until i clear, is this normal for evo3d?
3: when i install a new rom on my tablet my apps are synced through market when i sign in with my gmail account. why didn't my evo3d do that eventhough the option was selected on the gb rom?
thanks
Unfortunately it's not that easy to import data from incompatible ROMs. I think the best option would be to keep your contacts synced on Google instead of on your phone. But that doesn't help you right now.
Unless there is magic I don't know about, backup your ICS, restore the GB, backup the contacts, and restore the ICS again.
