Ok guys I'm I total noob in this android world and I think it's amazing. So I purchased the SGS2 and have been using for three months now. I wanted more so I started studying about root and custom roms.
I started the procedure but I need your advice/ thumbs up for what I'm gonna do.
Here it is:
When I purchased the phone I upgraded the firmware with Kies to
PDA: I9100UHKH1
PHONE: I9100UHKG4
CSC: I9100COBH1
It's from Movistar Colombia and so far it's the only update we've received from kies.
I wanted to download a copy of this firmware from Intratechs thread but the Fbeye spoiled it, but I got a prevoius version PDA:UHKE5| PHONE:UHKE3| CSC:COBKE2 (just in case)
* So I rooted using CF-ROOT with ODIN file CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_KH1-v4.1-CWM4.tar from Chainfire's thread.
So far so good. I don't mind about the yellow triangle.
*Installed HC-ktool to make a backup of EFS.. done
I'm at this point right now and I plan to make the next steps....I want to upgrade to 2.3.6 maybe use XILA2 (Frankestein firmware).
*Make a backup using CWM
*purchase and download Mobile Odin PRO
*Download PDA: XILA2| Modem/phone: XXKL1| CSC: XEUKH2
*Use mobile Odin to flash XILA2 (it should keep root right)
Is this version compatible?
If something goes wrong can I go back to where I am now using cwm with the backup previously made?
Should I wipe the device? before flashing? after flashing?
I've read somewhere that the battery needed calibration after flashing.. do i have to do this?
Should I worry about the CSC file not being for my country?
When I flash the firmware, will the APN settings change?
If I ever want to return to stock, can I simply flash with odin the original firmware? or with a different method?
thanks in advance...

Hi guys,
I just bought a Galaxy S2 and I want to flash a newer firmware.
The firmware I intend to flash (XXKG1) comes with PDA, MODEM and CSC.
Is it possible to flash just it's PDA part? Would there be any implications on that?
Why would I want that? Because the original firmware (Brazil - VIVO carrier) I could find only came with the PDA part. So if I flash CSC or MODEM, there is no way back.
The CSC is different from mine. Would that be a problem?
Thanks in advance
AFAIK the CSC is installed into the system partition, so even when you only flash the PDA part you're going to loose your current CSC setup.
However, if the FW comes as seperate .tar files you can just flash the PDA one, yes.
You can take care of a "way back" if you first install CF-Root for example and then do a backup from recovery mode.
Restoring that back gets you pretty close to "nothing ever happened" - it doesn't backup the moden though, only system and data.
Uhmm... weird, even on ODIN you have a separate button for the CSC.
What are the consequences of changing the CSC?

As the above poster mentioned It really depends how the firmware is packaged
Intratech's firmware are packed in one TAR ( Pda/phone/csc ) is just one zip, which you put in the PDA section and it flashes all three of them within
If you get three seperate files then you put them in their corressponding order of ODIN
In this instance you can choose to keep your current CSC and not flash that one.
Although I am not sure if It has any effect between 2.3.3 and 2.3.4
Just to clarify CSC subject:
I live in Kazakhstan. My present setup (from *#1234#)
PDA: I9100XEKE2
Phone: I9100XXKDJ
CSC: I9100XEKE1
believe all available official samsung firmwares are issued do exist for different region(i.e. Kazakhstan is not included)
How safe is it to flash the 2.3.4 firmware now (KG2) ?
What can I possibly loose using the KG2 firmware from Samsung ? As u understand phone language is not a problem for me.....so wonder anything else I omit ?
Thanks for help
Sorry to bump in....
Hello, I am relatively new to forums, only discovered it since I got my galaxy s2, which was a month ago.
Anyways I have similar questions, and I read a bunch of topic which only made me even more confused about what to do, and didn't want to make a new thread so I bumped in here
If inappropriate, please ignore me.
Anyways, Ive got:
PDA: I9100XWKE1
PHONE: I9100XWKE1
CSC: I9100OJVKE1
It is an stock firmware, and I guess a ROM...
I want to update to 2.3.4 but waiting seems not to be a better side of me so I decided to do it manually.
My question is with what should I update with?
As far as I understand, latest official firmwares can be found in the Intratech's post ( the XXKG2 one ).
But I am worried about the CSC part, and how will it affect my phone?
As far as I understand CSC carries localization of a sort, for some network configuration, but my provider sends config messages, and only language I use in phone is English.
Will random CSC part affect me?
Can I even update from my current firmware to the latest one? or do I need to update to other one first?
Will update wipe my data? ( it seems no as far as I understood from guide )
Will the phone be full "stock" ( basically like I bought it with that firmware), and will I be able to update on later time with KIES ?
What kinda of problems (if any) might I expect with upgrading this way? ( if presumably I do everything as I should, i.e. as per guides )
Once again, I apologize for bumping this thread, and I thank you for any help you provide.

Hi,
my sister is having a problem trying to downgrade to stock rom after she put a cusom rom (I9100XXPL6) on her phone and is having some issies with it. she didnt take note of some vital information before she flashed it and i think she didnt follow steps properly and she did not backup her phone.
currently her phone says the following when doing *#1234#
Phone bought in UK
PDA: I9100XXLP6
Phone: I9100XXLP6
CSC: Unknown
Build: January 17 2012
she has tried going to stock but it soft bricked her phone so she reflashed her phone with I9100XXLP6 and got it working again, i asked her where she got the rom from and she does not know, the phone was flashed when not rooted etc, as the guide she used said that it didnt have to be done, also she cannot remember what guide she followed.
all i know is that she had 2.3.6 and that her phone was from phones4u in the UK (guessing unbranded) and flashed it though odin (she cannot remember what she done, i guess she had Kies running maybe, i read alot of other posts). i have checked the thread for stock roms but all the links are multiupload which is not longer valid as we know.
i have never flashed a galaxy S2 I9100 and i have never used the phone at all. if anyone knows what stock rom to use and if they can mirror the relevant files it would be appreciated
have looked at [GUIDE] Fix an unflashable or soft bricked GSII but the kernal and bootloader links are multiupload and can only get the recovery package
i have experiance flashing phones and tablets just not the galaxy S2, any help would be apreciated
this is the correct thread for unbranded firmwares
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
find your UK unbranded FW and flash through ODIN
Search Sammobile to find stock firmware to flash via Odin.
sammobile firmwares all have the correspondent new firmwares bootloaders. so if you flash a FW from sammobile you won't be able to reset the custom binary counter via a Jig. download from Intratech's thread.
oh, and you do not have to follow the soft bricked thread if your phone is working.
just download a FW, put phone in download mode and flash using Odin.
Do what the others have said but make sure you read all the instructions! There are a few howto videos here http://galaxys2root.com/category/galaxy-s2-root/. Just remember your UK phone is the International i9100 model. Good luck.
Thanks for the help, I git the phone back to stock rom

Hello everybody,
I have a SGS2 from Bell Canada. I upgraded the stock firmware following various guides here. I managed to root it and to unlock it using Galaxy S unlock from the market.
The phone is running well now, battery life is about 2-3 days (I have Juice Defender and it helps).
I would like to upgrade to ICS but after reading a few threads I am very confused...
My first question is: will I lose my unlock?
Then, Kies does not recognize my phone any more; should I flash back to stock and wait for ICS to be available for my carrier and take it from there? Or should I go through Odin and just flash one of the ROMs released for Europe (or another region).
I am even willing to pay for Mobile Odin Pro and flash it directly from the phone, I read that it's safe and you don't lose any data, although other people were saying that it's better to just start from scratch.
Right now my phone info is the following:
PRODUCT CODE: GT-I9100LKMBMC
pda: I9100XWKK5
PHONE: I9100XXKI3
CSC: I9100XEUKH2
Model: GT-I9100 (shouldn't it have a M at the end?)
Android version: 2.3.6
Baseband version: I9100xxki3
Kernel: 2.6.35.7-I9100xwkk5-CL754841
[email protected] #2
Build number GINGERBREAD.XWKK5
So, could anyone point me to the right direction?
Thanks in advance
I think you have the international sgs2. I have tried flashing the xxlpq ics update and then flashed a custom rom but I encountered a lot of issues. I think the ics update still has lots of bugs so I rolled back to gingerbread using checkrom revoHd v6. So as of the moment all you need to do is root your phone with Odin and CF-root kernel and wait for a stable ics rom

Are you planning to upgrade to stock ICS firmware or any other custom ICS ROM???

You have a whole lot of options to play with, it all depends how comfortable you feel and what do you want.
For starters, you have upgraded from KG2 to KK5, which is a firmware other then Bell, as Bell never released and update. Because of this upgrade your phone says it’s a I9100 and not I9100M. Mine says the same after I upgraded as well.
I updated my Bell KG2 to ICS (LP7) and so far I don’t have any problems with it. I did have an issue with calls going straight to voicemail, so I installed the LPQ modem, and things have been well. People have complained about battery life, but I don't think it’s bad. I would say pretty close to stock GB if not better.
What you can do is make a Nandroid backup and then upgrade to ICS. You can do it through Odin Mobile if you like, as it won't upgrade your Custom Rom Counter, if that is an item of concern to you. There are other ways to clear the custom rom counter, if you go through ODIN.
I would suggest doing a factory reset with CWM, and clear cache/dalvik cahce. This will be like setting up a new phone. You can also upgrade without the reset that and it will keep all your settings and unlock. You will lose root though, but you can re-root.
I have done it both ways, and I went with the reset in my 2nd try just for my peace of mind. I didn’t have any problems without the reset either.
If you don’t like it, you can always go back to your Nandroid backup, which is what you currently have using CWM.
If you want original bell firmware, then you have to wait until bell releases it.
In the end you are the one to decide. Hope this helps.
Once u unlocked network it won't relock after u flash/update software

Hi everyody, thanks for the answers...
I guess I want to try the stock first and then move on to some custom roms...
I read a thread about the XEO Rom and was going to try that
What do you think about this?
@sahib - thanks, I was not aware of that...
@warhawk_la - thanks a lot, very helpful bits and pieces; what is the difference between the LP7 rom and the XEO and where did you get the files from (I see tht you flashed a different modem)

NO its un locked .

May not work as Kies needs correct codes .
Or should I go through Odin and just flash one of the ROMs released for Europe (or another region).
Your choice but rom for your region and actual phone is always best even as a backup for warranty .
Personally i would not jump on the ICS bandwagon yet .

download odin 1.85, official XXLPQ rom, siyah kernel.
flash the lpq rom first
flash the siyah kernel second
now you have last ics and root.
Hi, need some guidance....
I relative of mine has a UK purchased Galaxy S3 (from Vodafone) which has what I believe to be a Swiss version of 4.1.2 on it PDA: MRH, Phone: MJ1, CSC: MJ1 (BTU). The phone has never had any ROM updates.
Kies is advising that a firmware update is not possible, so I would like to put the 4.3 UK BTU ROM on there, are there any particular steps I need to follow to do this via Odin ? I've downloaded the ROM itself and Odin 3.09 but wanted to check if there are any steps I need to take before putting the new ROM on (I'm aware that this will wipe the phone, but I'm not worried about that as everything is backed up that needs to be saved).
Thanks in advance for any advice supplied.
Read the faqs and guides backup your EFS and backup any data you want saved .
Flash via Odin following the instructions should be no problem .
hi guys i want to return to all stock. i have found good tutorials in the forum and found all the firmwares. i am in the UK. i used galaxy_simunlock from the market and network unlocked the phone some time ago. i was hoping someone could tell me where to find a S2 unbranded JB stock rom.
The one i have downloaded is:
Firmware Version Info:
I9100XWLSW
(PDA: CSC: MODEM: CHANGELIST: 1211311 BUILD DATE: 16.05.2013)
http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=GT-I9100
can anyone tell me if this one is fine and will work in the UK and is unbranded, also will flashing stock undo my network unlock?
thanks
Yes that firmware is OK to flash.
I guess you are rooted ATM.
Get mobile Odin from play and triangle away also from play. Reset counter with triangle away and then flash the firmware through mobile Odin and untick everoot. Once done you're phone will be bk to stock carrier free. Don't forget to bk up any data you want to keep. Or use PC Odin.
