I don't know if its just me. But are HTC Amaze owners like LAST to get anything? I swear it looks like there has been a leaked ICS for every phone but ours. Crap, even the 5 year old HD2 from HTC has an ICS ROM. If HTC is really testing the ICS (Which Im starting to doubt) for the Amaze, we would at least hear SOMETHING from them besides, (er... 1st Quarter 2012). I don't know, starting to me sound like they just string us along.

I dunno if it's just me but it appears a few people's timelines are messed up. From every resource I've found the htc hd2 was released at the earliest 3-4quarter 2009 which makes it... Closer to 2.5 years old /off soapbox. But no, this isn't the case there are many, many phones without the hd2 is a great developer phone and due to its popularity and time it's been out the devs know it in and out and what needs to be done to get ics working, same with the vibrant, now. Last I checked gs2 doesn't have any ics. And nor does the mytouch lg devices and afaik mytouch slide among others I could be wrong but I don't believe so. Anyway man we'll get ics. Just takes time it's only been released for a few months now.

I don't believe the tmobile version does not sure about others, like I said based on last time I checked. But either way there are multiple phones without ics. And ours will come patience is a virtue.

LOL I had ICS on my HD2 before it died
Like LordDart said HD2 has alot of dev support which is what made it rock but yea anyways we'll eventually get ICS either from HTC or X.
It does suck though that they keep delaying it, but like many people have already said, better to wait and get something badass rather then get some half assed ICS port. I personally dont mind the wait too much since atleast we have gingerbread which isnt bad at all unlike some of the older versions like Froyo.
Thanks rx, plus, jeez I'm coming from a vibrant... Now we got really screwed. We didn't get official froyo for a long frigging time... And the difference between froyo and eclair was... Well the difference between champagne and carbonated piss... So waiting on froyo for that long was dang frustrating. Even our roms didn't have working gps on froyo for a long time, never got real cm support. Afaik. But now? Now the development there is ridiculously awesome. It's still a great phone. But yeah our phone is smooth and snappy as is... Unlike the vibrant ran outta box. For many months... So don't feel too bad we have a solid phone with some great devs.

I just left the t-mobile gs2. There is no ICS rom. There is also still no official word from Samsung about the update. They say the gs2 will get but no mention of the t-mobile variant. So at least the amaze is mentioned.

You know your rite... I get new phones like they grow on trees..
I just read the article and i dont see where it gives a specific time line for the amaze.to get upgraded. Unless i didnt read correctly. Im sure we might get a taste of Ics though.

I have a NS4G, and am switching from Sprint so I'll need a new phone. I'm looking into either the Amaze 4G, Sensation, or Galaxy S II. I want a phone that has a good developer community, as the two previous phones I had were fairly active in that regard.
I saw that the Amaze 4G Dev forum is looking like all the roms are Sense based. Is this an temporary thing or is the dev support just not there? (Or is the phone locked down enough to make it difficult?)
Anyway I would greatly appreciate some I put on this!

Hello, I am new to the forum but do have the HTC Amaze 4G. While HTC does provide the tools for unlocking the bootloader, they do not allow for S-OFF (Security OFF). And it is because of this (for the most part) that developing for the HTC Amaze is limited ATM.

Temp - hopefully.
Dev support - we only have one developer that actually has the phone. To top it off he's only 16 and still in high school.
We have the source but not the entire kernel source (thanks to HTC and their technicalities)
Still don't have s-off so we can't flash kernels via recovery thus makes flashing roms that much more difficult.
So if you want a good phone to use as a daily driver and don't care about tweaking and boosting... this is the phone for you!
If you immediately want fully working ICS, Sense 3.5, CM9, AOSP, etc then go with another device.
Do we see this happening in the future? If more developers were to pickup the device then maybe. But not anytime soon.
Bottom line if you want a device that has a HUGE selection of roms that you can do pretty much anything with... this isn't the phone for you. Not yet anyway.
Anyone know if there's any word on whether S-Off is coming? I thought I heard HTC announcing the days of S-On being forced are over.
I'd rather get the better phone. Hope that dev support comes.

Agreed with Binary.
From what you've posted this doesn't sound like the phone that will suit you. However, in the long-run it could suit you better maybe?
I doubt this forum will ever pick up. Most people who wanted a phone like this bought the sensation, and this phone is not a big enough of an upgrade from that. So most will just wait till the next gen.
Thanks for the responses. I think I am going to go with the Amaze after all, and deal with Sense. Apparently it'll get ICS at some point regardless, which will be nice. I am pretty good with Linux so I might work on my own development if I get some free time (going back to college to finish up my bachelors degree so I'm not so sure about that part).

I definitely agree. Everyone that I know that bought this phone after having the Sensation ended up having buyers remorse. The phones seem very similiar to eachother and we all expected them to be pretty much the same. However we later found out that they are nothing alike on the inside. Different partitions, different software, different securities, etc. This phone is actually kind of a PITA for developers despite how HTC claims to be "developer friendly" and all that other nonsense.
If you stick with the Amaze then try beast, its pretty damn close to AOSP, or at least as close as we can have for now

This is the first phone where I had to use the htc unlocking method and am SHOCKED that is not as open as they made it out to be. Keeping s on? What the hell was the point then? I can see where it would benefit developers, but as far as supporting xda type communities, its an epic fail while giving us false hope in all those press releases how they "heard" the enthusiast community and wanted to be more open.
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using xda premium
i hated always have 150mb of RAM or lower, but your ns4g has 2xxmb less so you are probably used to it.
Yeah I have been less of an enthusiast lately since the dev community sorta dried up on the NS4G the past couple weeks.

In my opinion its the best phone on the market and the toms are ok now great like 4th bar sense I like a lot xborader and other are working on a very slow moving aosp ics but its the only aosp we have and but its all sense roms also bulletproof and energy are nice

Hi mysticfrog and welcome bro!
Yes, The screen of the Amaze 4g is larger but not emolated (amolated?) and I've had no problems at all with Gingerbread nor with HTC Sense 3.0
The bloatware is there on this phone.
If you root your phone, it voids the warrantee btw.
The Amaze 4G IS slated for the ICS 4.0 upgrade & HTC Sence 3.5/3.6 probably in march. If not then your guess is as good as mine.
Insofar as ROM's are concerned, I don't know. As around.
Finally, You might want to reconsider this phone, as Google wants phone developers to come out with phones that don't have physical buttons!
ICS and Jellybean, I presume, are on phone which have physical buttons but the new Google phone only has on-screen buttons like the Iphone.
If I were you and I could wait till later on this year, I'd wait man.

I put NRG's ROM on to it. It is really nice, smooth and has many useful features!
If you wanna buy accessories, I'd recommend buying an Anker battery, a TPU case (i bought one for $3 on eBay), car charger and you should be good to go!
Alright guys I've got the amaze.. Im at work at the moment.. I just got one last question..
is the development of this phone going to slowly increase? Cause i do believe t mobile is the only one that has a phone of this juncture..
I've read ALOT on these posts were ALOT of people are not happy with the development.. Im not trying to get flamed for this question im just wanting to be with this product for the long haul and im just wanting to make certain that i made the right decision.. I've read the reviews all weekend so i do like the phone from that perspective.. Im just wondering about the development aspect of it all.. I just don't want to get it and then see devs leave for another product.. Basically how is the future development looking for this phone.. Thanks all.. Rooting this phone looks pretty easy btw.. If you're a crack flasher, then this device is not for you. I don't think development will pick up much at all... However, I say its the best device also. I don't need heavy development. NRGZ28 made a beautiful and EXTREMELY stable ROM called Energy. It's got all I could need.
Most people are salty about the device because they can't get s off so developers are backing out. We have 4-5 ROM developers, but the nrg ROM is the only one that's as stable as stock imho (but I haven't tried OneGoodROM or Bulletproof since the 2.3.2 update. A lot has changed since that release though.
If you're looking to flash a new ROM each week, then you will not like the device and you may have an addiction. If you're looking for a phone that has a few very stable ROMs to choose from, this is the device for you

I thought I read somewhere that we were getting it in the next month or two. I would assume we would have a good working ICS port at the least in the next month or two. Can't speak for the devs here, but I thought that's what we were looking at. As for when ATT will push it out, that could be forever...I hate how long they take, but oh well.

Having used ICS on the captivate, it truly is an update worth switching devices for. However, I'm pretty happy with the I777 so I will just wait. Android updates that were actually really good: Froyo, Honeycomb, and ICS. The rest were just hyped too damn much and gingerbread is the worst of all of them (imho).
Wow. Use the sticky thread.

For one, it's not just ICS when Jellybean comes out, you're going to get it much quicker than anyone else. And also, it's the purest form of the Android version minus any bloatware each manufacturer puts on the phone, which can be either a pro or a con, but overall, the bloatware has been a con in the past.
IMO, Gingerbread was a very good update, Froyo didn't seem that special when I finally got it for my S7. The biggest improvement was non-broken radio firmware, which had nothing to do with Android version.
Gingerbread had significant power management improvements.

I love and appreciate all the work that the Devs have done for our phone, but if we don't get ICS soon I will be leaving this phone. What the hell is your problem? Name one phone other than the Nexus line that has received ICS officially.
HTC hasn't released any updates yet.
Motorola hasn't released any updates yet.
Sony has only released betas (I applaud them for putting out prereleases)
Asus has only pushed it to one tablet (easier to port HC tablets due to HC being a newer codebase and not having to deal with the RIL) and that was an utter disaster
So far, my experience with ICS is that it's not an improvement over Gingerbread. I haven't been able to see any significant positive improvement - some parts of the UI are a bit shinier, but the gapps user interface is clunker than it was in GB. ICS has some good improvements on tablets, but for phones - not so nice.

First of all I said that I APPRECIATE the devs!!!! And I never said that the roms were official. Almost all HTC and LG phones have ICS roms. I left t-mobile with the htc sensation and believe me that phone runs 300% better now that it is running ICS. And by the way Entropy it is no disrespect to any dev by what I said, I am rocking your Kernel right now (Excellent job). I am pissed at Samsung and them only. Our phone is supposed to be a flagship phone so what the hell is the holdup?
If you can't wait then just go get the G Nexus. These questions have been brought up and beaten to death. Just don't be surprised when Ics finally drops for our device and our Roms are superior than most. GS2 surely has the hardware to run prety much anything smoothly and dev community is strong here

This thread is useless. Now on to something more important. When will we get jelly bean? I can't wait.

Google I/O is in Q3 so we can probably expect it by then.
Just for those of you wondering how long until Jellybean. Hopefully, if they keep releasing new versions, manufacturers will start dropping their skins so they can keep up. (I know that's never going to happen, but wishful thinking!)

coming to HTC....sometime much later in 2013
I wonder if HTC will just give up and release just ICS for their older phones and work on Jelly Bean for their new ones
Bloody HTC, I doubt our phones will ever get an official release of this.

The Evo 4G will never and was never planned to receive ICS, and yet there are completely functioning ICS builds available for it, with working camera on top of everything else besides the obvious 4G (and maybe a few other things, I haven't followed OG Evo development since I upgraded to this phone).
Official releases aren't a huge deal unless we need them to fix something. The problem with ICS on our phones have to do with the difference between it and GB, as well as our camera. I do not foresee JB to be a big difference from ICS, kind of like Froyo to GB.
So in the end an official release won't matter as long as JB isn't a huge difference over ICS, and we can use the official ICS release in order to make sure the camera works.
You're going to be able to run JB on this phone, do not worry.

I know the phones hardware is more than capable of handling JB. And I'd agree with everything you said, but our phone has some unique needs that others don't. Like you mentioned, the 3d/camera is one of them and also Wimax. ICS has been around for quite a while and there isn't a single ICS build for our phone that is a nice stable daily driver. Getting some of our phone's features to work without the help of HTC may be a bit tough. The development scene of the Evo 3D isn't huge either, though thankfully we have many great devs.
I came to the Evo 3d from the HTC HD2, now that's a phone that seems to be able to run just about anything. Ridiculously massive development scene. It had ICS running long before many other phones and it isn't even an android phone.

I can agree with that, mostly. What I'm trying to say is that, after a release from HTC, we hopefully won't have to worry too much about JB in the future.
Plus as long as jellybean drops within eighteen months technically we are supposed to get it .

I would almost be happy if jelly bean would wait, I would like to see a aosp ics rom fully functional first. We haven't seen a really smooth aosp rom out of alpha yet for the 3d. Either way. Just getting tired of sense but that's just me.

Even when jelly bean gets released you can easily add another 12 months onto that before there's a working evo version

Hey guys, why are people talking about jailbait in this thread?
