[Q] Sprint won't activate my sim - Motorola Photon 4G

Sprint won't activate my sim because I have a spending limit and have not been a customer for 90 days. Is it possible to use the gsm internationally with another activated sim card or some other way to get my phone working in Mexico and Venezuela. Thanks

Just buy a sim when you get where you are going locally. Many airports sell them in vending machines. As long as you are outside of the US, your GSM will work.

Heathrow, Stockholm, Helsinki, Sydney, New Zeland, Sinapour, India, South Africa, all have VodoPhone machines.
St. Petersburg, Russia and South Korea I could not find one but to be honest, I did not want to be in either of those cold a** places. Decommissioned some servers and was on the first think smoking outta both of them!!!
BTW: I had AT&T HTC Fuze with the above, did not try Photom in Stockholm or Heathrow because I was lazy!

Might want to get apn global while you're at it too. Helps configure the phone settings for whatever region you're in based on the company the sim you purchase belongs to.
Sent from my Xoom using xda premium

I bought a Sprint Touch Pro 2 and immediately went to India.
I did activate global roaming - which I used for $10 over 6 months (one 2 minute call from CDG).
Otherwise bought an India SIM card and called the US and UK for about 10 cents/minute.
I would think the Photon would be the same, but can't attest from personal experience.

had a global, although job paid, cost was mad
Sent from Photon 4G code name "Neo" using XDA Premium! stupid AND everyone I know will not answer blocked or numbers they don't know. get SIM, turn on data only to update clock when you arrive, to make calls, or if planning business dinner. althoith you have local SIM, moms call from Ohio........I don't need to blow $5.00 to here about church on sindaay!

Do I have to unlock the phone?

No need. It's unlocked for International SIM cards. It will not work on US SIM cards though, because again, the GSM drivers were compiled to ignore US towers...

Bad ESN T-Mobile One Unlocked to at&t

So I unlocked a bad ESN T-Mobile Htc one phone using a unlock code and an at&t sim. I also flashed the phone and replaced the tmobile stock with the att stock. Is it possible to get this phone to work now? Or is there no chance?
Also I first unlocked the phone then I replaced the roms.
If anyone has any clue if this could would would be a life changer! Thanks in advance.

Perhaps you should stop stealing phones. Half kidding. T-Mobile and AT&T now share the EIR lists so in theory it should not work on either.
So is there anyway to get this working on any carrier at all?
And umm, I purchased this phone on craigslist. the guy lied to me so now I'm stuck with a bad esn phone....
Nope, all the carriers share a blacklist of stolen phones. If it gets blocked on one it gets blocked on them all withing 24 hours.
Sell it on ebay. International customers will pick it up

How much do you think they will go on ebay? I am really not trying to be at too much of a loss so I hope I can get atleast 400$. the item is in mint condition.
You can get closer to 500+. Just make sure you list it as bad imei and sign up for the global shipping program ebay offers. They will take care of international shipping. Be careful when it comes to shipping to india and russia. They take a while to deliver and may get lost

have you tested this theory out? Let me know if anyone knows if straight talk can work with a bad esn phone?
In my opinion there is a HUGE loop hole, i have an AT&T HTC One I just bought today just found it has a bad ESN via swapper, but little secret, it still works perfectly fine using a previously activated sim, so your best bet, get another handset on the carrier you wish to use (GSM only) activate that handset, pop the sim card into the bad esn phone, and eureka, service and no MM#6

I don't understand how your phone still works on AT&T if it had a bad ESN. A bad ESN means the phone WON'T work on that network. So if an AT&T phone had a bad ESN, no matter what SIM card you put in it, it won't work.
But if you have it working, I wouldn't be complaining. I remember back when Tmo didn't have a no-throttle plan, I reached my 5GB, but I was still getting fast download speeds. I got the text message in all. This happened for about 3 months. Then it stopped. =.[
I'm not going to get into the details I read in this thread about carriers sharing their ESN's. That is new to me. I'll have to go read about that on my own time.
I am curious when this will actually be enforced.
I have been using a One with a bad ESN on ST AT&T LTE for several months with no issues. I know they are supposed to share the blacklist...but will they really enforce it when it could bring them extra business. I have even used a LycaMobile (TMobile reseller) sim in the phone and it works as well.
Bad thing about CL and T-Mobile is you buy a phone, it's clean, works a week or 2 and then gets blacklisted when they dont pay the bill. AT&T & Verizon dont blacklist for non payment, although they may start for people who get the phones on payment plans.

Anyone Used ATT One abroad?

I'll be traveling to Italy (mostly Rome) in the near future and want to know if the phone will work there. Has anyone had success?
I've checked ATT's site and talked with a CSR and they claim it will work. However, they said the same thing for my old One X when I went to Morocco and Portugal last summer and the phone did NOT work there. I've checked the One's bands, and a number of them are compatible between ATT and local Italian carriers, but again...this was also the case in Morocco/Portugal.

You would have to get AT&T to give you an unlock code or buy one from many providers. Otherwise you will not be able to use another carriers SIM card. So yes it will work but you will have to jump through some hoops. Without a SIM unlock it will only work on an AT&T network.

Understood. I had international roaming capabilities enabled on my account and have been told I can roam on any network operating on the frequencies the One uses. I was also told that with my One X last year and it didn't work, though my g/fs SGS3 did so clearly it's possible.
They won't Sim-unlock my device because the line I'm. On is under contract until May.

Even though it is contract, you should be able to buy an unlock code from the many providers you will get when you Google for them. Most charge in the range of 10 to 30 bucks and can get you a code in a few minutes to a few hours.
Just pick one and then do a Google on reviews for that one as some are shady..

Thanks, understood, though my question stems in that I want to give my contact information to someone I need to contact upon arrival, and If I can't call - or they can't call me - when I get there, it's going to be a huge pain. They wont have my number if I get a local sim, and I wont know it ahead of time. The last thing I want to do as soon as I arrive is rush around with my stuff trying to find a cell phone to store and hope they can give me a sim unlock code. it's a last resort, for sure.

[Q] [Q} TS and TMobile Free Data

Just got my TS developer edition after waiting forever for it.
Tried searching and couldn't find info.
Anyone able to use this with the free 200 mb plan from TMobile?
Requires you already have a line of service with T-Mo according to them.
T-Mobile website
All tablet customers are entitled to the 200MB/month free data for life offer, as long as they have active Mobile Internet accounts. And if you’re a well-qualified voice customer on a qualifying postpaid Mobile Internet plan, you’re also eligible to get $0 down (EIP) on tablets even if you’re just on the free data ($0 MRC On Demand rate plan*, without purchasing additional data).

The T-Mobile $30 5gig 100min plan is maybe a better deal. Get the prepaid one day they are offering them free. You won't get faster than H+ speed with the TrueSmart, but that's pretty good anyway.

No, its free for all. Signing up for the free plan qualifies you for that requirement
I'm betting that it won't work on omate. Tmobile uses imei white listing to determine which devices qualify. If you put the Sim in a tablet which is not part of the list, you won't get it either

Thanks. I'm asking because I'm curious if anyone else has had luck with actually being able to sign up and use it. I had heard about only specific devices being qualified, like nexus and ipad. wasn't sure if we were eligible.
Hoping someone sees this and can anser definitively.
I walked in to a Tmobile store a couple of days ago and got a sim for the free 200 meg add-on (I was already a customer). I just tried it, and do have web access on the TS. I didn't try anything too heavy or non-http, but I was able to load up xda in chrome on h+.
I am a pre-paid customer with T-Mobile. I wonder if I can get a sim like that for an emergency data sim ?

you could just buy/get another sim card from t-mobile. $10 (or $0.99 or free), depending on what promotion t-mobile has.
believe they have an expiration date, but it should be far away so that you can keep the sim for emergency use

Mine is a SIM Starter Kit for GSM phones (was like $10 shipped). Haven't used it anything yet, so I'll see if it works.
I can confirm that they use IMEI whitelisting, though there might be some social engineering you can do to get your Omate's IMEI listed.
I ordered an internet only microSIM and called to activate it. Operator asked for my IMEI in the process of registration (gave him my iPad1's). Once it was all done I popped the SIM into the watch and it connected to T mobile fine (H+) but wouldn't connect to the internet (kept getting redirected to mim.t-mobile.com).

Did you have to bring your tablet in?
IMEI cloning is illegal as he** in the U.S. There's at least 4 three letter agencies that look for this stuff.
It is also against xda rules to even discuss it.

[Q] sprint via at&t

Ok so we all know why we got our gear s from at&t (100$) cheaper than sprint.so now after i unlock the phone is there a way to connect it so srint.if yes than how if no than state details why not and whats the best choice for unlocked at&t gear s device ....
Sprint version is CDMA. I think that is why it also cost more. ATT version is gsm version with a sim card. I dont think they will work.
In order to use any phone on a CDMA carrier, it must meet two conditions:
1. It must support CDMA. The AT&T and T-Mobile versions are GSM only, no CDMA support.
2. It must has ESN (each CDMA device has one) already in the carrier's database. There is no known (official) way to put foreign device ESN into the database other than carrier itself. That means you are pretty much limited to devices sold by Sprint only. Even though Verizon is CDMA as well, you can't use any Verizon devices.
Yeah. That's a tall order. Atleast to use all functionality of services. Pairing is fine and using the features of the marriage between your device and GS. But standalone, I'm pretty sure that's not going to happen.
Although. Maybe using Boost or Virgin Mobile may work? I believe they use sim cards. I could totally be wrong though. But i thought they did.
Sent from my SM-N910P
Boost and Virgin Mobile all run off of sprint network. The best thing would be to return the watch to att and just pick up a sprint version. Price wise it only 80 bucks more but then you know you can use it on your network.

As the other posters have said CDMA = UICC CARD (SPRINT SOME VERIZON) GSM (T-MOBILE &AT&T
SPRINT & VERIZON
NO SIM CARD FOR YOU
T-MOBILE & AT&T
SIM CARD YES UNLOCK MAYBE BUT YOU CAN ONLY GO TO THESE CARRIERS
MOST ARE LOCKED (yOU CAN USE MVNO TO YOUR CARRIER WHILE LOCKED (IE H2O/CRICKET/STRAIGHTTALK ECT=AT&T
WHATEVER VERIZON IS .
You can use separately I for instance have Note 4 Sprint Gear S T-mobile
Ok as i come from sprint im really a noob about sim cards and the prepaid ones.can somebody please give me in details with sim cards will work unlocked fear s at&t .i want to put sim card with phone and text dont care about data ill use wifi mostly but dont want monthly subscibtion to any service.simple sim card that gonna let me talk and text till i finish my minutes...
the thing is that the price for a prepaid sim card is not worth the cost of the service. Most will be 30 a month. I think you may be better just trying to get service from att.

theres more but these are ones people know
That wasn't confusing at all ...
Haha.
Sprint and Verizon sim cards are for LTE. This watch definitely does not support LTE.
There are definitely two versions that were tested by the FCC, those were the GSM and the CDMA models. I thought at first that it might have a universal radio (CDMA/GSM hybrid) because the Snapdragon 400 in the device supports that. But the FCC didn't license it that way, so #sadface ...
The ONLY benefit to buying on on your same carrier is to get a discount on the device (if you can call Verizon's $349 a discount), and to have a discounted plan ($5-10/mo) to use its independent phone and data ... but you'd be under contract for two years ... that's a long time and quite the commitment.
Most of us just paid AT&T 299 outright and walked out with the device. Some have had to contact AT&T to request unlock, I, for some reason have NOT ... my T-Mobile sim also works in it and did out of the box ... I believe I had a VERY knowledgeable customer service rep where I bought it, and she knew what was up!!!!!! [Q] ATT Locked (SDC)

Hi guys, I just attended the Samsung Developer Conference at San Francisco and gave us a Gears S as a gift. The device seems to be sim locked for ATT. I contacted Samsung and ATT and they know nothing about that and could offer me any solution. Hoping there's some other attendees hanging at xda, Does anybody was able to solve this problem?
Thanks

I did not attend that confrence lucky you. Yes it is sim locked you can unlock it if you choose to under certain conditions. Did they mention any new gear apps to come?
What are those conditions? They didn't announced any official app but there was an app contest with some interesting apps though.

If you are a AT&T customer/former customer(i e have.had a number) your good you can request unlock code. If your new you have to be with them for x amount of days (40 or so). Or find someone willing to add it to their account so you can unlock assuming you've paid outright. If you were never a customer YMMV but most likely no unless they feel like it then it will be emailed to you

I'm from Argentina so I guess the only option would be to find someone from US who is a ATT customer willing to do the work for me. If any reads these and want to give me a hand with these please contact me via PM.
Typically, the conference organizer will give you instructions about how to obtain a unlock code from them directly. Calling AT&T directly won't help.

That's where mine came from - I was there. Wow, the demo gods did not smile on Samsung
Anyway, no - no info was given, and I honestly doubt any thought was given to how to unlock these "dev" phones for non-AT&T customers. I happen to be on AT&T should I want to use a sim in mine.
If you register on the AT&T forums http://forums.att.com/ then you can send a PM to ATTCustomerCare (http://forums.att.com/t5/notes/privatenotespage/tab/compose/note-to-user-id/192773) and tell them the situation. That team has been the go-to team for "edge case" unlocks. Alternately you can keep trying to call the support number until you reach a supervisor who can ok the unlock, but essentially you're reaching those same people via the forum without the hassle of endlessly calling.
You can get it unlocked using cell unlocker. It took them a few days but they finally sent me an unlock code that worked first try.
I must have been the first one they did because they kept sending me emails asking I had tried it yet. Because I was travelling I had to wait a couple if days.

My fiancé and I are in the same situation. We also got the watches at the Samsung Dev Con, but we're T-Mobile customers. (Also, did you notice that the Note 4s they raffled off were for Verizon?) We already tried calling AT&T, to no avail, and now I've posted on their forums asking for help and I'm sending the customer care people a PM, as recommended in this thread.
Worst case scenario, we get our friend (an AT&T customer) to get the unlock codes. But if it comes to that, we can probably get yours unlocked with ours, if you want. We're happy to help.
I'll post an update if the customer care PM works.
Last time I was at an Microsoft event and with the AT&T phone they gave me, there is a note inside told me to email someone with IMEI for unlock. I did and they quickly email back with unlock code. You should contact your meeting organizer, not AT&T or Samsung support as they have no clue.

If you are not an AT&T customer and are on T-Mobile or Sprint, I would recommend selling the AT&T version and getting one from your Carrier that way the Radio Bands will work for you.
If you are out of country, I would recommend selling the AT&T USA Version as some others have posted where they can't get apps if the Country doesn't match their Phone, or something like that.
That being said, if you are looking at selling the AT&T one cheap, send me a PM. I bought one, had it about 6 hours before the wife confiscated it for her selfish purposes.

We already tried calling AT&T, to no avail, and now I've posted on their forums asking for help and I'm sending the customer care people a PM, as recommended in this thread.
Worst case scenario, we get our friend (an AT&T customer) to get the unlock codes. But if it comes to that, we can probably get yours unlocked with ours, if you want. We're happy to help.
I'll post an update if the customer care PM works.

In theory it should work just as a unlocked phone would on whatever network so any problems you have with unlock on AT&T will be the same like how they handle messages

So you think the SMS/MMS wouldn't work?
Non-us SDC participants beware of GSM-bands if you are European

I'm from Argentina so I guess the only option would be to find someone from US who is a ATT customer willing to do the work for me. If any reads these and want to give me a hand with these please contact me via PM.

I am from Norway and got mine at the Samsung Developer Conference. I unlocked mine using cellunlocker.net. I received the network lock code less than an hour after submitting the order and it worked like a charm.
HOWEVER: For other non-US-citizens, you need to check whether the AT&T-device has support for your local GSM-bands. Here in Norway we have GSM 900/1800 and the AT&T device is only GSM 850/1900 from what I can find on the net. Which matches my end result of not being able to connect to my network even after unlocking.

850/1900 bands are for North America only. Only two other countries outside of North America use also use these two bands: Brazil and Australia.

That's not right. If you use AT&T messenger on the phone (as AT&T wants you to do), you will not be able to reply from the watch. So, you will have to switch back to the Samsung stock Messages app.
MMS might be a problem but regular text SMS won't be a problem. For MMS, you may need to add AT&T MMS APN.
