[Q] [Q} TS and TMobile Free Data - Ornate TrueSmart

Just got my TS developer edition after waiting forever for it.
Tried searching and couldn't find info.
Anyone able to use this with the free 200 mb plan from TMobile?

Requires you already have a line of service with T-Mo according to them.
T-Mobile website
All tablet customers are entitled to the 200MB/month free data for life offer, as long as they have active Mobile Internet accounts. And if you’re a well-qualified voice customer on a qualifying postpaid Mobile Internet plan, you’re also eligible to get $0 down (EIP) on tablets even if you’re just on the free data ($0 MRC On Demand rate plan*, without purchasing additional data).

The T-Mobile $30 5gig 100min plan is maybe a better deal. Get the prepaid one day they are offering them free. You won't get faster than H+ speed with the TrueSmart, but that's pretty good anyway.

No, its free for all. Signing up for the free plan qualifies you for that requirement
I'm betting that it won't work on omate. Tmobile uses imei white listing to determine which devices qualify. If you put the Sim in a tablet which is not part of the list, you won't get it either

Thanks. I'm asking because I'm curious if anyone else has had luck with actually being able to sign up and use it. I had heard about only specific devices being qualified, like nexus and ipad. wasn't sure if we were eligible.
Hoping someone sees this and can anser definitively.

I walked in to a Tmobile store a couple of days ago and got a sim for the free 200 meg add-on (I was already a customer). I just tried it, and do have web access on the TS. I didn't try anything too heavy or non-http, but I was able to load up xda in chrome on h+.

I am a pre-paid customer with T-Mobile. I wonder if I can get a sim like that for an emergency data sim ?

Didn't know that... I have a T-Mo SIM here that I intended to use in my TS. I'll try it out later once I'm done checking out the watch and ready to break my warranty coverage to insert the SIM.

you could just buy/get another sim card from t-mobile. $10 (or $0.99 or free), depending on what promotion t-mobile has.
believe they have an expiration date, but it should be far away so that you can keep the sim for emergency use

I might try when I get home. have a couple of prepaid unused t-mobile SIMs, though I bought them under the "phone" label rather than the "internet data-only" label.... which sim do you have?

Mine is a SIM Starter Kit for GSM phones (was like $10 shipped). Haven't used it anything yet, so I'll see if it works.

I can confirm that they use IMEI whitelisting, though there might be some social engineering you can do to get your Omate's IMEI listed.
I ordered an internet only microSIM and called to activate it. Operator asked for my IMEI in the process of registration (gave him my iPad1's). Once it was all done I popped the SIM into the watch and it connected to T mobile fine (H+) but wouldn't connect to the internet (kept getting redirected to mim.t-mobile.com).

I didn't have this problem, I asked for a Sim at a store so I could use a Nexus 7. Said I was gifting to my girlfriend, they activated the Sim for me in the store and it works just fine.

Did you have to bring your tablet in?

IMEI cloning is illegal as he** in the U.S. There's at least 4 three letter agencies that look for this stuff.
It is also against xda rules to even discuss it.
.

I can confirm that this is against the xda rules and illegal in basically every country that uses the IMEI numbers to blacklist stolen phones.

[Q] Sprint won't activate my sim

Sprint won't activate my sim because I have a spending limit and have not been a customer for 90 days. Is it possible to use the gsm internationally with another activated sim card or some other way to get my phone working in Mexico and Venezuela. Thanks
Just buy a sim when you get where you are going locally. Many airports sell them in vending machines. As long as you are outside of the US, your GSM will work.

BTW: I had AT&T HTC Fuze with the above, did not try Photom in Stockholm or Heathrow because I was lazy!

Might want to get apn global while you're at it too. Helps configure the phone settings for whatever region you're in based on the company the sim you purchase belongs to.
Sent from my Xoom using xda premium
I bought a Sprint Touch Pro 2 and immediately went to India.
I did activate global roaming - which I used for $10 over 6 months (one 2 minute call from CDG).
Otherwise bought an India SIM card and called the US and UK for about 10 cents/minute.
I would think the Photon would be the same, but can't attest from personal experience.

Do I have to unlock the phone?
No need. It's unlocked for International SIM cards. It will not work on US SIM cards though, because again, the GSM drivers were compiled to ignore US towers...

Blacklisted IMEI (Maybe)

So I bought a L9 T-Mobile last Saturday to use it with simple mobile but always get no service, I go several places that repair phones and all say was a bad sim so I bought a new one and same thing happend. I go to another place and say that my IMEI can be blacklisted and when he check says is blocked and reason is STL. I check here at home and says unlock... Im asking is there anything I can do to use this phone? I read that changing roms cmay also change the imei but I'm on 10g so means I can't root it yet.

Changing the IMEI on U.S. soil will land you in Federal Prison for a long, long, long time.
On a good note, I don't believe that T-Mobile has implemented IMEI blocking yet. Are you sure the device is for T-Mobile? Does it say T-Mobile on the top right corner of the glass? If so, try your sim in another device. If it works you may have a bad device.
What is the Firmware version and Baseband version?
You can try doing a factory reset.
Here are instructions on doing this: http://www.resettoo.com/hard-reset-lg-optimus-l9-p769-to-restore-factory-settings. Good luck.
Yes have the T-Mobile logo. I bought it from the girl next door on my vacation on Florida. She say she bought a Galaxy 3 so didnt need this phone anymore and give it to me for $150 and since I have a mytouch 3g slide I obviously accept but use mini sim and wait till I got back and bought a mini sim just to find that dont work.

I don't have my L9 handy. Maybe someone with 10g can confirm the same baseband. If it is different, that may be the issue.
Would you be able to have someone with a T-Mobile sim try it in your phone?
Not yet, thinking on going to T-Mobile and check, if works then transfer my number to them. Would suck change $40 to $50...
Symptoms of an IMEI Blocked Device
CANNOT:
Dial 611 to reach T-Mobile customer care
Make/Receive Calls
Text Messaging
Data/Internet
Use any tools or menus such as calendars, contacts, etc.
This is taken direct from T-Mobile.
I can verify for you whether or not its blocked if you like.
I PM you the IMEI, hope is not blacklisted... Is a good phone and I dont wanna use like an MP3/Video.
Also I check and I can open the tools like contacts, calendar, etc.
Wow! I was not aware that T-Mobile is already blocking IMEI. Thank You for the info.
Worst case scenario is you may be able to use one of those sim unlock services on Ebay to unlock it for AT&T.
The phone supports the 1900Mhz 3G band for that network.
There are plenty of pre-paid carriers that use the AT&T network. Net10 is one of them, and they have unlimited everything for a good price. Good luck.
Oh I didnt knew I can have 3G outside T-Mobile network. I might have to try that. Will keep update on what happend.

These days mobile service providers have joined together and sharing centralized IMEI data for any possible criminal activities happening over the phone. Just dont buy any phone from anyone you dont know well. Even if you have bought it from relative may put you in legal issues. Always ask for bill (invoice), warranty card and box, even if warranty is over.
Just imagine that "girl next door" also does not know that the phone is used for illegal activities (drugs/terrorism) and may be thats the reason the phone IMEI might have been blocked and is still traced by International Investigation Agencies, then what? You might have saved some dollars at the cost of your fortune. So beware. Dont do this again. These days we are all wired and easily traceable.

Anyone Used ATT One abroad?

I'll be traveling to Italy (mostly Rome) in the near future and want to know if the phone will work there. Has anyone had success?
I've checked ATT's site and talked with a CSR and they claim it will work. However, they said the same thing for my old One X when I went to Morocco and Portugal last summer and the phone did NOT work there. I've checked the One's bands, and a number of them are compatible between ATT and local Italian carriers, but again...this was also the case in Morocco/Portugal.

You would have to get AT&T to give you an unlock code or buy one from many providers. Otherwise you will not be able to use another carriers SIM card. So yes it will work but you will have to jump through some hoops. Without a SIM unlock it will only work on an AT&T network.

Understood. I had international roaming capabilities enabled on my account and have been told I can roam on any network operating on the frequencies the One uses. I was also told that with my One X last year and it didn't work, though my g/fs SGS3 did so clearly it's possible.
They won't Sim-unlock my device because the line I'm. On is under contract until May.

Even though it is contract, you should be able to buy an unlock code from the many providers you will get when you Google for them. Most charge in the range of 10 to 30 bucks and can get you a code in a few minutes to a few hours.
Just pick one and then do a Google on reviews for that one as some are shady..

Thanks, understood, though my question stems in that I want to give my contact information to someone I need to contact upon arrival, and If I can't call - or they can't call me - when I get there, it's going to be a huge pain. They wont have my number if I get a local sim, and I wont know it ahead of time. The last thing I want to do as soon as I arrive is rush around with my stuff trying to find a cell phone to store and hope they can give me a sim unlock code. it's a last resort, for sure.

locked and no way that i know of changing it as sprint version doesnt have root yet.
From Sprint's unlock policy:
I am a former Sprint customer or was never a Sprint customer but have purchased a Sprint device from a third party other than Sprint. Can I get the MSL code?
For individuals owners who can provide the telephone number last associated with the device, Sprint may be able to provide the applicable MSL Code if the account associated with the device is in good standing (service or installment contract fulfilled, payments are current, no write-off balance, not associated with a phone sent to collections, phone not reported lost or stolen, etc.).

Important thing here is where are you located;
In US - Most probably not, until someone finds a hack for it. Sprint certainly doesn't want you to use their phone on GSM in US.
Outside US - You may get the SIM card slot unlocked from Sprint (done via OTA, not thru code) if some conditions are met like account should be in good standing, shouldn't be a bad ESN & phone should be 90 days old on the account (some people in past have been able to get past this requirement).
Apart from these, you also need to make sure that GSM/UMTS/LTE bands your carrier use are supported by Sprint G3.
I am in the same boat as you, looking to buy a Sprint G3 & use on GSM. Since I'm not in US, I can definitely use it once unlocked but the problem is how to ask Sprint for the unlock when you are not a customer & don't have an account with them.

Well, I say it again.. MSL has to do nothing with GSM slot unlocking for Int'l networks. For this, Sprint pushes an OTA to the phone which unlocks the SIM slot.
If you still think its explained in a different way (involving MSL) on the Sprint website, plz post the link.
Just wait until we have root and I will see if I can unlock it for everyone.

Simply because Sprint phones are much cheaper than any other carrier if bought slightly used or from sites like swappa and ebay. However due to strict unlocking policies of sprint it is near impossible to unlock their devices if you are not a customer. Heck even if you are a customer they give you a hard time. Hence phones on Sprint tend to have much lower resale value for this very reason and hence the reason for people attracted to these devices because they do have the hardware capability of using gsm networks it's only sprint/software that's holding these phones back.
As of now i would hold off on buying a Sprint lg g3 if you plan to use on another network. The phone doesn't even have root yet for sim unlocking hacks to even be attempted. Check out the Sprint HTC m8 sim unlock hack is out for that phone and very capable device with much more development.
I get that I should buy a phone for a given carrier - However, if I were to buy a Sprint LG G3 that WAS unlocked, would I be able to use it on T-Mobile would I be able to have some reasonable expectation to have UTMS+/LTE connectivity?
(if I can buy an unlocked sprint phone for ~ $275 vs ~ $450 for a t-mobile version...)

Though this is old ill comment my idea of why. The very reason is , i believe anyway is that sprint phones' resale value is the cheapest overall ...why? Because of the sprint reputation as well as the old days it would not connect to gsm period. However today its global capabilities has began a big buy spree on this model mainly for price ..This is why you might see as example on craigslist, s4 175 as opposed to verizon 250 or T-Mobile etc. Sprint has always had cheaper or lower resale value. Not sure how much longer but ive bought many sprint devices for this reason ..also since sprint sells to more lower to no credit with the spending limit option they are more prone to blacklisted phones and or risk. Lol. So to me i believe this is why you see lots more sprint phones today trying to get on gsm or any. Peace.
Sent from rotary technology Phone
Most phones after 2012 using LTE have to have a Sim card slot.
Verizon had to unlock their phones because of the LTE bands they use.
Prior to that Sprint was using Clear as thier 4G provider using WiMAx. When they built up their network their network they had to use sim card slots
Just like Boost, Virgin, they lock down the sim using UCC.
By locking down the sim and the modem you cant access the service menus to take the lock off.
Currently the HTC One, One MAX, and M8 for Sprint are capable of gsm but man is it a pain.
There may be a way hopefully since yes Sprint phones are very cheap in resale value. I got a HTC One MAX for $150. Took me 3 days to unlock, s-off and figure out the instructions on the internet so I can use it on T-Mobile.
I came here to see if the LG G3 can be done as well...so far looks like a no go.
So far the Note 3, Mega and other Samsung phones can be unlocked.
I think it's a steal to get a 5.9" 1080p Quad Core phone for $150. Cheaper than the Desire 820 GSM which is only 720p for $350.
The sim can be unlocked ..... All you have to do is read.

Question about using without activating/use monthly plan.

I thinking about getting one of these but I rather not have to pay extra 10.00$ a month as I would usually have my phone around me. I found some unlocked ones on ebay. Now my question is if bought one and wanted to leave my phone at home could I just swap the sim cards? I have a sim card adapter to make it all work. Or ifnot could I use a pre paid sim?
Thank you

Now my question is if bought one and wanted to leave my phone at home could I just swap the sim cards? I have a sim card adapter to make it all work. Or ifnot could I use a pre paid sim?
Thank you

If you buy unlock gs from ebay.....just make dammm sure it will work on your gsm network. If it will, yes you can swap the sim from the phone to the gs....but the risk of breaking something is much greater...if you know what I mean. You can always go pre-paid.
Example: Pri att/unlock to use on tmobile.......it might work....people are saying they are having trouble with unlock gs and vice versa with Pri tmobile/unlock to att. But I think it is a hit and miss, cause I have a unlock att and I can go tmobile network any time with no issues.....as of now I am on pre paid h2o (att network) for when I want to go remote and leave the phone at the house while jogging.
Thank you for the reply and sorry for my late one. So ive found a few on ebay that say unlocked. So what I would need to do is get a sim from h2O as prepaid use that when I set up the watch from my AT&T s4?
With h2o you dont really need a unlock gs if you get an att gs......since it runs off the att network. You should not have an issue since your s4 is also running on the att network.

Yep. I posted on a similar thread- $10 gets you 90 days, 100 megs with H2O's cheapest pay-as-you-go. I take the watch to the gym on remote connection every few days since january-- I've used about $1.70 of the $10 credit from getting notifications and few calls routed to the watch.
Since you'll be buying the watch off contract- go ahead and submit that request for the unlock from AT&T anyway, even though h2o works on locked att devices. It'll make it worth a little more for resale down the road, plus it's free and easy to do so- you just need a non-att/h2o sim card.
btw, if there's no huge hurry for cell coverage on the watch, you can get H2o and simple mobile SIMs on amazon for one penny & free shipping. Get a simple mobile one so you can unlock the watch with it.
make sure you get a nano-sim

I keep forgetting the unlock code can be asked when bought out right after the new ruling went into affect. I don't have att nor tmobile as my phone carrier and bought the att gs since it was the cheapest of them all and needed coverage as a second carrier when out of phone range (I have sprint on the note2).....also since it has a sim....it could be unlock...etc. I was telling cyper the other day.....I too was afraid of the data usage, but after 2 to 3 months the gs eats data like a bird.......I bought the $100/1yr and I am sitting at 97.00 (since Dec) cause I was not sure how the gs with going to eat data..etc. I am going to have to down grade when it is time to reboost next yr..lol. I might go with the $10/90 days next time around.

You can use a family shared plan and you don't have that $10 access charge.
They do not charge extra just for a new line? Thanks though I will contact AT&T and find out now to be 100% before I shop on ebay.
2 different networks

I am looking to do the EXACT same thing you did. I have sprint, sprint version is about 399 in the store but I can get the international unlocked for 253.00 I can send you the link if anybody needs it off amazon. The challenge of course is sprints restrictive network so I have 2 questions, 1st when your phone is paired can you receive calls when tethered and talk through the watch and 2nd when you popped the sim card into the watch did you have issues using it as a stand alone device?

Yes, when tethered you can receive calls and talk through watch. Only at&t & T-Mobile Gear S watches have sim card slot (GSM). So if your looking to use the watch as standalone on Sprint network (not sure if your talking wifi or 3G network) , assuming your talking 3G network via Sprint there would be no SIM card required. Are you talking standalone via wifi/no 3G plan or standalone as connected to the Sprint 3G network with the $9.99 plan?
**The previous persons comments are very misleading and I think confuses anyone who reads it. In order to even use the device via Sprint 3G they will need your IMEI number NO SIM CARD.**
I paid the cost for Sprints Gear S which didn't bother me, although I'm using it connected to the $9.99 plan as well as tethered to my phone. Its also much easier to get a warranty replacement device. This thread seems so off topic I'm confused if previous poster is talking with 3G plan or not considering the OT was no plan.
well my plan is to bypass sprint all together and use a prepaid AT&T h20 nano sim card on the watch. This way I use sprint when tethered and AT&T when using as a stand alone watch phone if that makes any sense. Again this is a gamble as I ordered the international South Korean unlocked version, Ive seen one or 2 posts on this being a possibility but I will update if it does work, if so this option may save many people money and frustration of being tied to one network.

I am attempting to do this with a T-mobile note 4 and a South korean unlocked GS from amazon I will update if it does work. On a side note the seller had their prices listed as low as $235.00 New and the day after I purchased it they bumped their prices back up to $319.00!! (I was at the right place at the right time i guess)

That makes perfect sense, thanks for clarifying that. Actually would like to know how that turns out for you. I just have a personal grudge against at&t/Verizon and left at&t for Sprint not long ago, so that just wasn't an option for me. How much is the line going to cost through at&t? I was thinking it was a little bit more per month unless you already have a phone line..
