New to the Droid Razr - Motorola Droid RAZR

I am new to the motorola Droid. I just switched to Verizon from Sprint, and have a Razr Max XT912. Even though I am not new to Android systems (HTC Evo3D). I want to root my Droid but need help. What is the best way to do this? All links and help is greatly appreciated.

Been reading off and on today but can't really seem to find any guide on anything that is need for first root. Ok not trying to sound rude but there does not seem to be much help in these threads here for someone not familiar with a device.

I have a question to you! Why did you root if you didn't know what you wanted to do afterwards? Rooting is not just so you can feel the "cool factor", and the vast majority of us know before we root why we want to do it, otherwise...................WHY do it???
Why did you bother? Your own answer should close this thread, and everything else you mentioned can be found by reading the forums!
No offense, but you shouldn't be rooting/flashing "roms" if you don't know what your doing.
It's very easy to end up with an unusable device.

Thx. I know that. I managed to get everything working i wanted ;-) and everyone has to start at one ponit, right. That's why I would not do it if I don't want to. I want to learn more about it so can you tell me a good thread or webside to start with?
Can anyone tell means about that rom pls.
I find your responses a bit harsh guys.. Are there laws / regulations on who can / should root, profile boxes that have to be ticked before one can decide to have a go at unleashing the full power of their phone?
Nobody was born with the knowledge, we all started from scratch at some stage. There are enough warnings that explain how to apply the root methods that are offered in the threads.

Ouch.......poor guy is new and gets slammed instantly for wondering what all he can do with his phone. I think we were all in the same boat not too long ago.
Yea, he may be a noob and not know the politics of posting before reading, but I bet each one of us did at one time too. What we should be doing is just politely pointing him in the right direction on how to learn more about all things root.
Such as http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=972423 being a good place to start.
Understand though, if you screw up your phone, there is no one to blame but yourself. Read how to recover from a soft brick and hard brick before jumping in. Read all posts VERY carefully and all the way through. That's how I learned, and many others before me. And first and foremost, before asking questions about anything, do a quick search of the treads to see if it has already been asked and answered before. If you don't find your question, feel free to ask and ignore those that troll the treads.
Good luck my man.

I am running Gingerblur which is very similar. I think it is a great ROM and one of the few so far for the Atrix. If you like some of the Blur stuff such as the gallery and social networking items, you have to understand that you will be losing them with the new ROM and going with the stock Android gallery. However, if you do a backup of your current ROM before flashing, you can always revert back if you don't like it.
Big thing, screen shots help for me. And the ROM developers do a great job at giving the details of their ROMs in their posts or websites.

I agree, we all have to learn, but the vast majority of us started by reading through threads which have all the info about how to flash sbf's, root, sideload, flash themes, what is and is not possible, etc. We then tried things by following the instructions.
I'm not, and was not, trying to be a ****. I am however very blunt! Everything the OP needs is already there if he/she looks. The forums are full of "repeat" threads because people are basically too lazy to read and research for themselves before asking what has already been asked numerous times.

[Q] Help a noob out with rooting

Hey all, I'm considering rooting my Atrix since I've had it for a while and its awesomeness has worn off. I'm a complete noob to rooting so I dont really know where to begin. Is there a detailed guide for rooting the Atrix anywhere that would be beneficial to me? I know I've heard of a one click root for other phones, does the Atrix have one that is as easy as that? Is there any issues I should be worried about? I'll leave my system info below just for a reference...
Thanks!

there is a sticky that has info on everything you want. its in the ATRIX forum, it is specific TO THE ATRIX
you asked for a guide, and there it is. its a sticky, it should be read before firing up a brand new thread asking something that is answered in the first post on the STICKY
Jeez, you are quite rude, hope you have a nice day.

yeah. im the rude one, that opened a new thread that didnt need to be opened.

aashrey99RAZR, the Noob friendly guide to the RAZR XT910!

So we all know that XDA isn't the most noob friendly forum in the world
XDA as the site description says on the homepage is a site for developers by developers, so its quite natural that noobs will feel out of place here. The RAZR forums in particular are not at all organized. With all the ROM, OTA, ICS leak, fastboot and mod threads floating around its just too much trouble for an average user to figure out even the simplest of tasks. So, I decided to do something about it.
I present to you my blog, aashrey99RAZR. It's my attempt at consolidating all that is relevant to the RAZR on XDA. It went public on 1st March, 2012 and its been steadily growing since then. I've got about 12k+ views till now(I have no clue if that's good or bad) and the response from people has mostly been positive.
Currently my blog covers the following topics
Reviews
Razr Vs. Other popular devices
Rooting
CWM recovery guide
Roms - Original and custom with instructions
Mods - only the ones which i think are of actual importance with instructions
Battery Optimization guide
Disaster Recovery Section
Overclocking/Underclocking guide

[NEW] Matt's RAZR Utility
To be added with eta
FAQs(need help with compilation)
Tips and tricks for non-root users(Need help on this one)
CDMA ROMs for GSM through GSM patch(once the testing is completed in the thread in the dev forums, these ROMs will be added accordingly)

I'm trying to present everything in an easy and understandable format(hopefully ).

it's interessting, but...
maybe just don't use foreign word to explain another foreign word
(like 'flashing a rom' in the rom description part)
you know what i mean?
just bring some more professionality but without talk like a pro
PS: need some help?
Actually, as a noob to the razr, I'd like to see a tutorial/"step-by-step" on Matt's utility and why/how its going to make my life easier/great.
Also, some "common problems" with resolutions would be nice as well. Such as "I installed the moto drivers on my computer but when I plug it into USB its not found" type of stuff maybe? Yah know, a FAQ of sorts that you find in other boards on this site but not for the razr for some reason....

Yeah, a blog where I don't see any real AUTHOR of the RAZR modules/mods etc.
Also, it is a simple copy and paste of the posts that you can find both here and into the EternityProject Development Forums.
Pointless.

Well I'm sorry to say that not everyone find XDA to be the most easy to use site. I'm just trying to filter the relevant stuff and put it in one place.
As for the copy and paste, I won't sit down and type that much of text simply when its all present there, though I am gonna try to make it more understandable in certain places later.
Also I have credited everyone for their hard work and I'm grateful to the dev community and you for working so hard on the RAZR and bringing us such cool mods and ICS roms.
And as far as authors are concerned, I don't see a reason why anyone would consider writing for a new random blog that just popped in some part of the world.
So please if you wanna help, constructive criticism would be great!
Redesigned the blog. Now in RED and BLACK to better suit the RAZR's looks!
PS: Video tutorials section coming soon! Noobs and starters, you've got a jackpot!
Doing a great job. Really impressed how its evolved. Guess I will have another sire I will have to visit on a daily basis. Keep it up. May have to link the site for people and ofcourse give credit when due.

Matt has all that listed out on his original post for the updated version for 2.3.6
As far as windows not recognizing your device, I would recommend un-installing moto drivers, restarting your comp, then going to moto's dev site and downloading the most recent version (4.83 I think). Once installed, restart comp again, wait til boots up, plug in phone and there ya go. Cycle through all 4 USB connections to have all the drivers installed.

How many bluetooth devices can I connect to my razr?
Thinking abt to buy a bt set - mouse, keyboard & speaker.
Can razr "hold" all this sh** well at the same time?
Just don't want to waste my money ; )

[Q]Coming from HTC phones, learning to use Odin?

So I'm totally comfortable with the HTC rooting and roming world, but Samsung looks like a whole different ballgame. No fastboot, everything done through Odin, etc. Doesn't look hard, just not sure where to start. Any suggestions on guides or tips?
thanks
You have GOT to be kidding me.... Your lazy arse didn't even TRY to search for one yourself...
There are also some other good reads. Any tutorial on xda will help you, could also try looking in the S2 forum.

Yeah, but I want more than just a guide. I want explanations for why things work the way they do. I get how and why things work the way they do on HTC. I don't want to just be following scripts clicking buttons, and then begging for help on the forums when I mess something up.
Thanks though, for the insults!

lol, ah come on calling you lazy isn't an insult
For that you could try looking in the S2 forum. I don't think anyone has written an extensive Odin guide for the S3 yet, but I think it's very similar, if not the same as the S2 (just a newer version).
Same process.
Researching and reading will enlightening you. Sorry, not name calling, this is actually part of XDA rules and etiquette, and no different here than HTC forums. Anything other than that would be lazy
As previously posted, check the SGS3 & SGS2 stickies. A wealth of knowledge users (Edit: and of course the Devs) have spend countless hours putting together.

Honestly there is not a lot to mess up. Odin is soo simple compared to what you have to go through on an HTC phone.

No recovery after brightstar RUU

Hey everyone, I am stuck. Finally got around to playing, and ran the Brightstar RUU to change phone into Dev edition. Everything went perfect thanks to all these great threads here, but now I don't have ANY recovery installed. I didn't notice if it was gone after S-Off'ing, or after the RUU, but now nothing. Has anyone heard of this, and can I put a recovery back on? I DL'd a stock, but I really would like CWM. If anyone can point me in the right direction, much thanks.

Hey, I wanted to thank everyone for NOT posting any answers. Through the help of these forums, I was able to muddy my way through and find the solutions that I seek. Another learning experience for sure. Solution is that even though phone was S-Off, the bootloader had to be RE-unlocked to flash a recovery. But I am sure everyone but me knew that

Sorry I didn't see your question in time, just so you know (or i guess you figured out), no-one really monitors the at&t forums. In it's best times their were only about 25 of us in here. In the future take your questions and concerns to the international One forums and you'll have much better luck. At one time their was talk of combining the two forums because all the GSM phones are basically identical.
