Is there a way to change the light levels for the touch capacitive buttons (Home, Menu, Back, Search)? My search button has ways been dimmer than the others ever since the first boot.

open root explorer....
navigate to this directory...
/sys/devices/platform/leds-pm8058/leds/button-backlight/
in that directory there is a system file named "currents"... long press that file, edit, change value to 20, save and exit.
your brightness should be adjusted to max on your LED buttons. you can adjust that value from 0-20... 0 being off.
Use leedroid tweaks and set them on-the-fly.
If I use LeeDroid's tweaks will it change whenever I flash to a new ROM?

actually, flashing a new ROM will completely get rid of lee droid tweeks... unless the new ROM includes it.
and no, it won't stick. touch keys are controlled at the kernel level unless modified after boot. kernel = power output/management in android
Then why is only the Back button dim compared to the others? This should've been corrected whenever I flashed the first ROM a couple days ago. It's been like this since I got the phone back in August.

Use keyboard backlight controller, free from the market. Problem solved.
I tried and it didn't help the Back button. Maybe I have a bad LED

I was just about to say the same thing, if you get the Kernel Tuner app you can change that, plus a whole bunch of other stuff
I'm gettng the same results with kernel tuner as when editing in Root ex. Lights do turn on but stay on even after locking screen.

I was wondering a couple of things. First of all when I watch YouTube videos and i tap the screen to show the progress bar it slows down the frame rate. And how do I manually go to the white screen after I turn the phone off to get to recovery without removing the battery because I have the otterbox defender case.
Thanks

idk about the youtube problem, use the phone in landscape mode when watching videos and touch the screen and see if that helps.
for the boot thing its called the 4 Boot. when you flash a rom make sure it has it built in ( which most do i believe) and choose to boot into recovery. i hate pulling off my case as well

As JoeyUFC said, most roms will now have the 4 in 1 reboot option. That's when you choose to restart your phone, it asks you to reboot to bootloader, recovery, hot restart, or normal restart. However, the reason you have been needing to pull your battery is because you have fastboot enabled. Shut fastboot off, by going to menu>settings>power. Then uncheck the fastboot option. That way you'll be able to turn the phone off like normal, and boot to hboot without a battery pull.
Also, there's a good app fromt he market called 'quickboot' and that will also get the job done.
As for the youtube thing, I'm not sure. I've never had that problem before.
I guess is a ROM thing. Also i tried both positions and there is a lag

I have seen that same problem. It's either you have very low battery aka power saver mode. Or slow speeds.

If you're rooted, you can use a custom kernel. HTC hasn't released the source for the 2.3.4 kernel though. You can look at the nolights kernel thread based on 2.3.3 to get an idea or see if someone can compile a custom kernel for you once HTC releases the source.

I recommend this more than the custom apk. This method is built-in and in case for some reason you want the sound back, the option is just a checkmark away.

If you're rooted all you have to do is use Root Explorer and go into:

Change the name of "CameraClick.ogg" to "CameraClick.bak"

Yes, but doing the build.prop mod allows the toggle to be done from within the camera app which makes it much easier to toggle, as opposed to having to switch to another app.
No need to install anything. The easiest solution is usually always the best.

I just use Root Explorer and go to System/Media/UI then rename the Camera_Click.ogg to Camera_Clik.ogg just changing a single letter works and you can always restore it if wanted.

If im not mistake you would either have to be running a custom rom with screen shot option in the extended power menu or just download an app. There are plenty of them for rooted and non rooted users
Sent from my XT897 using Tapatalk 2
hold down the power button, if its a custom rom, it shud most probably be there. otherwise find Power Menu settings and then activate Screenshot
Get screen grabber from the play store. No root required. Be sure to change the settings for root in the app before trying if you don't have root.

I've never figured out how to do the Motorola Screen shot on this device without the volume rocker showing up in the pic. I have an old free app called Shoot Me that isn't available anymore. It takes great shots and also does continuous screen casts. There is a color fix setting that needs to be selected for it to work properly on this device. Requires root. If anyone wants a copy, just PM me with your email address and I'll send it to you.

If you're original 4G MoPho then slap a CM7 ROM on that bad boy and set her loose! Screenshot via power button. Then, backup, and flash a Jellybean ROM! Recover back and forth depending on what you need. Play movies via HDMI to your TV? Th3bill's JB ROMs do it naturally. Need Netflix? Recover back to GB, CM7. Never use any third party app on the MoPho. Just get what you need, and flash via custom recovery. I use Th3bill's CWM recovery, I'm old school, but I LOVE TWRP. My Photon is the only device of 4 not to run TWRP. Flashing is fun, easy, and oh so rewarding. Have some joy in your device!
you can find application like screen graber or screen capture ect.. on play store

since the new cm rebase kernel was pushed some things have changed.
my old enable/disable no longer works on the new rebase so here is the new zips
should work on all cm/aosp based 4.2.2 and 4.3 roms
disable: http://www.blownco.com/index.php/doc_download/13402-disable-capacitive-buttons-new-jd81
enable: http://www.blownco.com/index.php/doc_download/13403-enable-capacitive-buttons-new-jd81
for 4.1.2 roms use
disable: http://www.blownco.com/index.php/doc_download/639-disable-capacitive-buttons-jd81-zip
enable: http://www.blownco.com/index.php/doc_download/640-enable-capacitive-buttons-jd81-zip
just flash in recovery and reboot *put both zip's on your phone* flash disable and reboot, if you dont like it then flash enable and go on with your day
if this zip doesnt work for you *ie buttons still work after reboot* well then you dont have the proper rom,
either go on with your day or
-open a file manager
-go to /system/usr/keylayout
-delete the file sec_touchkey.kl
-reboot and go on with your day

To turn off capacitive button lights:
1. Download a file manager with root access. I used Root Browser.
2. Go to system/lib/hw
3. Find the file named 'lights.msm8660.so'
4. Rename it to anything such as "lights.msm8660.so.old"
5. Reboot.
