i'm trying to tether a sgh-i777 (at&t SG2) running CM7.1
wifi hotspot just says "Error" after disconnecting existing wifi.
so i'm trying USB but i can't get windows to install any USB modem drivers.
i tried the ones from samsung, by themselves.
i tried the ones that come with kies (i'd assume the same version as above) and i tried the google android SDK usb modem drivers
windows just refuses as it can't find the "appropriate software".
windows XP
any ideas?

Don't you have to flash back to stock in order to install Samsung drivers or Kies? I could be wrong, but I'm sure If you search you'll find your answer.

I installed the Axura 2.2.5.9 froyo rom, im a bit of a newb so I apologize in advance if this should have been asked in the Axura rom thread but I think its more a "general" question then rom specific.
Ok so I tried to get the froyo usb tethering to work on my pc, its win xp sp3. I had and still have Easytether installed and it works fine. Yes, I exit'ed out of Easytether on both my vibrant and pc before trying to stock usb tethering. I installed the proper drivers and turned on usb tethering. I downloaded the proper .inf file from android.com/tether or whatever it was.
The problem im having is, I cant seem to install the .inf file. When I plug in the usb cable nothing pops up to install new hardware. However, the very first time I plugged my phone in after installing froyo something popped up about new hardware buy me being me I closed out of it. The android faq site told me that when the new hardware pops up to select the .inf file I downloaded but I cant seem to get it to pop up again.
Can anyone help me? I also tried going to add hardware in the control panel and the phone/usb hub wasnt listed.
Thanks in advance!!
Nobody can help me????
Installed Froyo (vai mini Kies) on one machine and tried to tether on a different laptop. I had no luck with any of the .inf files I could find on the Samsung site or discussion boards. Installed the Vibrant Mini Kies for T-Mobile and the device installed automatically the next time I enabled tethering.
I used Kies_Mini_For_Vibrant_10095_9.exe (XDA will not allow a new user to post a link)
From what I know, the stock USB tethering in Froyo doesn't work with XP. It only works with Vista & Windows 7. I forget where I seen this, but I'm for sure it doesn't work on XP.
I can tell you (from experience) that tethering DOES work with Windows XP. The only glitch was getting the right driver, which is contained in the Mini Kies install.

So, quick backstory. I have two PC's at home. A brand new win 7 64 bit laptop, and an older XP desktop. Neither will recognize my vibrant, and never have. At work, I have a win XP desktop, and I can connect the phone to that and use mass USB storage and move stuff around just fine, so I've gotten by in that regard in these 6 long months.
Then comes this #$%%^$#$ Froyo update. Who thought it would be easy?
I have downloaded kies on each machine. (As well as ODIN, but same issues.....computer/phone wont communicate). I cannot get my two home computers to connect to the phone, no matter what settings. BTW, I have rooted my phone with OCLF and subsequently un-rooted before trying any of the following. I have not flashed or updated the phone otherwise with any other software, other than what apps are available in the market.
I've tried
-USB Debugging on/off
-all 10 USB ports between the three PC's in all configurations
-deleted all USB drivers and restarted on both computers
-installed the appropriate drivers from samsung for each pc
-wasted 7 hours with samsung support troubleshooting to no avail
The USB cable is fine. The most promising progress is on my work PC, where I got Mini Kies going, connected and started the update, it finished decompressing the binary files, but then a USB not recognized warning pop up and kies kicked out the update.
I have installed, reinstalled the drivers for each system several times with samsung support. Nothing is working.
I don't know what else to do. This is the most frustrating experience in my life. Any suggestions or similar experiences that have been remedied?
I was having promblems also but eventually got it to work for me on an xp machine on stock jfd. It updated me to ji6 then I did the ka6 update when it was released. I gave up on my win7 system lol. Is your xp system 32bit or 64?

same here i have a win7 64 bit machine, i can connect to normal kies 1.51. i tried to update, it downloaded the files and just got stuck when it started putting it on the phone (luckily, it did not start the installation so i was okay).
mini kies shows that it recognizes my phone but crashes immediately after that.
i do not think the vibrant is supported by newer versions of kies, like 2.0.
I solved my problem by using my 32bit xp system.
edit: just FYI, i can connect to normal kies 1.51, sync my data and all that stuff. i also updated to ji6 thru normal kies, and I can transfer files and whatnot thru usb. I do not even think i needed to install the drivers manually
I downloaded Mini Kies 2.0 onto my windows 7 64bit machine and installed the Samsung drivers I have everything worked smoothly. I upgraded 3 phones to Froyo with no issues. here are the drivers I have

I did the Same thing it worked for me as well
The only luck I've had is on a winXP 32 bit machine, but then it cuts off the installation when it suddenly says "USB Not Recognized" (despite, um, the fact that it recognized it at the beginning, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to initiate the update!)
I'll give those Win7 64 drivers a try at home, although I'm pretty sure I have downloaded the same ones in my quest for a solution.
Do you suggest plugging in the phone, then installing the drivers, or leaving the phone unconnected and restarting the computer then trying to connect, or ???? The biggest issue on the Win7 machine is the phone not communicating with it AT ALL. Not even showing up in device manager as unknown or anything.

SOLVED
I finally got it to work, after about 15 attempts! (on a win XP machine)
Here's what I did in case it will help someone else:
When I plugged in my phone, I saw two items in the USB list in device manager. One said "Samsung Android USB Composite Device" (internal SD?), and the other said "USB Mass Storage Device" (external SD?). In this configuration, I got kicked out of the install each time after it "decompressed the binary files".
So what I did on a hunch was go to the device manager and "update" the driver for the USB Mass storage device to the "ssadadb2.inf" file included in the Vibrant USB drivers available directly from Samsung's Vibrant page.
Selected "Samsung Kies" on the USB settings on the phone, turned on USB Debugging, opened Kies on the computer, plugged in the phone, and it did it's thing.
Only took 3 days to figure it out!
Yeah its been a hit or miss. I have win7 x64 on two laptops and my desktop. It works in the desktop and only one of the laptop and I installed the same drivers for all 3

W/ WIN 7 64 Bit I upgraded my phone to Froyo.
I'm running win 7 SP1 64 bit.
Samsung told me that Kies mini and the driver is not compatible to 64 bit.
After some research this is what I have done and able to upgrad my phone to Froyo.
1. check the USB debugging.
- Samsung says to uncheck it. but if you do, you probably have MTP USB device error. So make sure your USB debugging is on.
2. After the you connect your phone, Samsung Kies Mini keeps crashing??
-Uninstall IE 9.
Solution is...
*Check the USB Debugging and Uninstall IE 9.
**Make your the battery is fully charged.
Connect phone
Start Kies Mini
I got so sick of Windows I switched to Ubuntu Linux. It's free and just as easy to use as windows. No crashes, no viruses, and it sets up as a dual boot so I can use windows when necessary.
I have been attempting to connect my Galaxy Tab 10.1 to a Windows 7 (64 bit) PC and an OSX (Snow Leopard) Mac Mini to no avail.
I have downloaded every driver I could possibly find, uninstall, restart, install driver, restart and still nothing. I attempted two versions of Kies, even installing the driver through Kies. I have updated the galaxy tab using the August 5th OTA (United States) update but it still refuses to work.
Does anyone have suggestions?
Here try this: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/downloads/GT-P7510MAYXAB
It will provide download links for Kies 2.0 and the proper drivers for both mac and pc. Just click on where it says "software" right next to "manuals" on the website.

This is where I have been downloading the software + drivers.
I also tried uninstalling all AntiVirus programs. I also tried seeing if I could push to device in Eclipse, but no-go.
After spending some time with Samsung Customer Service, they decided to let me send it in for repair. They provide the shipping label (UPS), so I guess it's not that bad.
I'm using Win 7 64 bit and I can't seem to connect via Kies either, I've installed version 2 and the usb drivers and when I plug the Tab in via USB it pops up a 'usb debugging' message.
Surely this is just a software issue and shouldn't require the tab to be sent back to Samsung?
Edit:
I've just got it working, disable USB debugging did the trick. Info found here http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-tab-10-1/373613-galaxy-tab-10-1-cant-connect-kies.html
Any way to use Usb mass storage on a Mac? I can adb push, and use kies, but no USB mass storage.
I installed latest version of Kies in my Windows 7 Professional 64bits (UAC disabled, install was "ran as admin")
In the end of the installation process, Windows shows a balloon saying it is installing the driver for the device (note that there is no phone connected to the computer at that moment), but it fails saying that it could not find the driver for the device.
After installation finishes, I can connect the phone, open and use Kies normally, but if I go to Windows device manager, in the "Other devices" branch, it still lists an "Unknown device".
Any idea about how to solve this? I already searched the forum, but could not find anything that worked for me.
Thanks!
PS: I'm using the original USB cable from Samsung.
As long as you are able to connect and work via Kies just leave it. Just check how many people are having problem with Kies, you should consider yourself lucky that you don't have a connection problem
Regards.
Leave your phone plugged in and do a windows update. It should find the missing drivers.
You can find the drivers inside the dir where kies was installed, alternatively a copy is stored on my 4shared, link in my sig.
You can try installing the drivers and see if that helps.
Kies is a huge PITA, you may need to swap USB port and uninstall/reinstal for it to get its act together.
Thanks all who answered.
Unfortunately, Windows Update can't find any driver (already had tried that), and also asking to update the driver and setting it to search in the Kies driver directory has no effect either.
Does anyone have any idea what is the reason i'm keep getting "Mobile connected" message whenever i try to install Samsung USB driver? A total clean restart with no others USB device or phone connected still give me this problem. (feel **** since i'm unable to root my phone due to this....)
By the way a XP system.

How do you try to install the USB drivers?
I used KIES for installing the phone drivers initially to my PC (also running on XP).
Then I closed KIES and killed any process of KIES in Task Manager to make sure, that KIES is no longer running/active.
Since then I can use/access my phone directly by the Windows Explorer, flash ROMs and/or kernels with Odin, etc..
Good luck !

By kies. But after installation of kies, it's still fail to detect my phone with CDC serial and android driver missing. Then I try the USB driver from kies folder, but it will keep giving me "mobile connected " error, despite I fully clean kies and relevant device installed before proceed.
However this problem only occur for newer version of kies. I have no problem installing older driver (USB driver version 1.3.450, but the older version doesn't support s2 )
