Every app is constantly force crashing! - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Having problems with my GS2 now, previously, it hanged, so I took out the battery and placed it back. Now, every single app keeps crashing on the main screen, and even when I went into the apps list to click a few apps, all of them doesn't work, just give me a force close error. What do I do? Reflash? I can't even backup with my titanium backup, it keeps crashing everytime I went into the app.
Keep getting the process android.process.acore has stopped, but other apps as well.

Try wiping just dalvik cache first if you have cwm. if that doesn't work factory rest. backup in cwm first.

Need some more information. Did you flash or do anything before the apps started to crash?

I'm bumping this because it happened again. I'm using MIUI, and it happened again, after factory restarting from the same previous error. I reinstalled my MIUI zip, now it gets stuck at the GSII bootscreen with the triangle logo. BTW, does nandroid backup messages?
It used to work, I unplugged my usb cable, off it, on it in the day, and that happened.
Oh, and nandroid has an error while backing up to sd card. I'm screwed.
Basically, this happened:

HELP: Samsung Galaxy S MIUI is hard bricked (detailed steps to problem)

This is the problem in as much detail as possible. I had to write this up again cause my browser tab hung when I hit 'preview'. I couldn't even copy the text. Other tabs were working fine though. Is this XDA's fault or my browser (Chrome)? Anyway, teaches me to always write stuff up in Notepad first. So, onto the problem...
1. Some months ago, I flashed MIUI into my device, was working fine. I do the regular Friday night developer updates, although the notification doesn't always come up so I could've missed a few.
2. About 4 or 5 days ago, opening an application or sms started yielding the error message "android.process has stopped unexpectedly [FORCE QUIT] [WAIT]". I can sometimes get around this by fiddling around (rebooting, turning wifi/data on and off etc). It buys me just enough time to complete the task, but then the issue starts again. Phone calls don't yield this error, though.
3. Then today, I rebooted my device and it got stuck in an endless loop on the MIUI logo screen. Obviously this is related to the errors I've been getting. I booted into recovery and backed up my data to the internal SD. I don't believe the backup completed though. From memory, an error may have come up. It still, however, created a date stamped backup file.
4. Tried to restore the backup file, "missmatched MD5 checksum". Tried to restore an earlier backup, same thing. Tried some other restore options such as restore boot, restore data, restore system etc, still same thing.
5. Then I read that clearing the dalvik cache may fix the issue, so I went into advanced options and cleared the dalvik cache, rebooted, now my phone won't turn on, nor will it boot into recovery mode. It will, however, boot into download mode.
Any help is appreciated.
If it can boot into download mode its not bricked.
Just odin flash a stock rom and start again.

Have I lost all my data?
Yeah, but you have your nandroid backups anyway.
But I would start fresh.

Help!!! All apps force closing!!!

Hi. I'm running MIUI 2.3.2 and I like it alot. But every once in a while all my apps will force close and they wont stop. I've had to Odin back to stock and flash it all over again like 3 times! I haven't gone a full week without it doing that. Everytime I flash it I wipe dalvik...wipe cache partition & everything but iit still does it. Can someone please help?
I also flashed a new modem but it was compatible with miui cm7 would that be the problem? I didnt wipe anything for that. Was I suppose to?
I also use the miui controller mod to put my clock in the center. Didn't wipe for that either. Would that be a problem?
Please let me know. Thanks.

Have you tried going into cwm and fix permissions?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda premium
I did that when it did it the first & second times but each time I did it it would work properly for a few days then everything would force close again.

Sometimes restoring app data across different "platforms" (that is) -- backing up apps and data then restoring over and over again, leads to this sort of problem. I rarely have this issue itself come up, but usually if clearing the caches and going and manually clearing the data doesn't do the trick, I have to just uninstall the problem apps and reinstall fresh.

"Process android.process.media has stopped" after JB update

Hey guys, I can't even use my phone after the official update of the Jelly Bean (via Kies). After booting, the phone freeze almost completely and pop-up this message. Any fix without reseting ? I tried cleaning the cache but the problem isn't fixed
If anybody had this issue, can give me an idea about how to fix it ? Thanks
Try clearing its data in app manager
Nop, can't find it. I tried cleaning most of data but nothing works :/ Damn...is Samsung able to do something without bugs ?
that's why no one uses kies
Factory reset or download an Odin version and flash with Odin

Yeah, I like to root, but not to change the rom Now I need to root again. At least the issues has been solved.
Fixing permissions usually solves that problem barring that a full wipe and start again.

As I got the official update, I lost the root, I tried to clear the cache and as I've seen that is not working and the phone was freezing each 5 seconds I got a bit scared to start rooting it. I wiped it, installed my apps and now everything is ok. However, it's weird that I didn't got the apps automatically installed like it's happened last time when Amazon replaced my S3 for some screen issues (some scratches inside the screen). I just added my google account and everything started installing automatically. Not this time...
just downloaded jelly bean tonight and having this issue. has anyone come up with a solution that does not involve a full hardware restart???
Had same problem after I updated 3 months ago. I think was an incompatibility with an app or something has not updated completely. Fixed it with factory reset.
You can backup apps with Samsung Kies I think if you don't want to lose progress in games, the other stuff is automatically synced

I'm afraid it'll probably have to be a full reset just make sure you've backed up.

[Q] Freezeing with Siyah 4.1.5 and stock 4.0.4 help Plz

Since i have rooted and installed the Siyah Kernal, i am experiencing random crashes where apps stop working and the screen goes black for a minute and everything reloads again like as the phone has been restarted. i used a fresh made recovery and everything was ok but i had to reload everything from scratch. it has happened again but this time i can not even get past my pattern lock screen before it crashes and freezes. therefore i cant titanium backup my apps.
i have tried
- Boot to CWM recovery
- wipe cache partition
- wipe dalvik cache (under advanced)
- reboot phone
I was wondering if anyone else was having this problem.
just in case it matters am using go launcher and just before the phone went funny i was browsing and using apps fine. however today i did use extweaker app and ticked the option to force usb storage, if this makes any difference
thanks.
i was wondering has anyone else had this problem and is there any ideas on why this may be happening.
it may because the phone is trying to do something that is causing a conflict. I believe the only way you are going to resolve the issue is to do a factory reset, to unfo the issue with the force usb storage.

Thanks. For the reply. I was wondering what would be the best way to factory reset with out loosing root but giving me a fresh 4.0.4 with root also should i flash the latest siyeh kernel or stick with what i have. i am running ok at the moment after flashing a recover. but am paranoid it just going to get stuck and freeze on the lockscreen again. this could be a big problem if i need to make a important call or somthing. sorry for spelling mistakes written on my phone
editm i used galaxy s unlock from market. i dont want to loose this either
also most times i install a new app the whole screen just sticks and i have to reboot then it becomes fine again. any help would be appreciated.

Might be worth deleting the .siyah folder and then booting into recovery, flash a kernel cleaning script then siyah or whichever kernel again.

[Q] DX2 doesn't boot after backup

Hello, I have a major problem with something that should have been a minor project. I used System Recovery to do a backup of the phone. The only thing I can think of there that I might have done differently is save the backup to the external SD card, instead of internal. After the backup completed, I went to reboot the phone and it's stuck on the Motorola splash screen. I tried to pull the battery and go into that general Android Recovery in order to wipe data and try again, but I just get the Android with an exclamation point over his head. I've tried booting it without the SD card too. I was using CM7
Can anyone help please!
EDIT: A couple hours later, since it was my work phone, I had to do something. I reverted the SBF, re-rooted and tried to restore from the backup I made and the same thing happened. I'm going to try to revert to my previous backup. I have a full backup from Titanium Backup if it comes down to it. The phone was working fine, I just can't figure out why it blew up on me after I ran the backup. Grr..

sounds like a bad backup. i always use external sd for nandroids and it has never had issues.i would just re-flash. as for stock recovery with andy with an exclamation , push both volume keys. should work regardless of what state the phone is in. i have had it completely unusable and it still worked.

OK - You mean to flash cleanly with CM7 and then restore from Titanium backup instead of my previous nandroid backup?
I'm slightly confused about that System Recovery tool, because first I had ROM Manager and it says that CWM is installed, but it doesn't work. Do I have to manually install that System Recovery APK each time I do stuff like this, or does it stay installed? And if so, from a powered off state, how do you enter it? Or do you have to boot up to Android and enter recovery mode from the app? Thanks.

yes i would try that. second, dont use rom manager. dont delete it either. but it doesnt work on our phone. the bootstrap recovery that you install would only need to be reinstalled if you delete cache in recovery. otherwise it should always work. hope this helps. im not completely sure exactly what you are asking.
try just restoring system part of backup, see if phone will boot, then restore user data
or reinstall cm7 and restore just user data

I should be fine now, thanks for the advice. I don't know why that backup blew up the phone, but it was sure an inconvenience haha! I just reflashed CM completely, and now I'm gonna roll out my Titanium backup. I don't have a lot of stuff, just the essential stuff for work, so it shouldn't take too long.
