This is the problem in as much detail as possible. I had to write this up again cause my browser tab hung when I hit 'preview'. I couldn't even copy the text. Other tabs were working fine though. Is this XDA's fault or my browser (Chrome)? Anyway, teaches me to always write stuff up in Notepad first. So, onto the problem...
1. Some months ago, I flashed MIUI into my device, was working fine. I do the regular Friday night developer updates, although the notification doesn't always come up so I could've missed a few.
2. About 4 or 5 days ago, opening an application or sms started yielding the error message "android.process has stopped unexpectedly [FORCE QUIT] [WAIT]". I can sometimes get around this by fiddling around (rebooting, turning wifi/data on and off etc). It buys me just enough time to complete the task, but then the issue starts again. Phone calls don't yield this error, though.
3. Then today, I rebooted my device and it got stuck in an endless loop on the MIUI logo screen. Obviously this is related to the errors I've been getting. I booted into recovery and backed up my data to the internal SD. I don't believe the backup completed though. From memory, an error may have come up. It still, however, created a date stamped backup file.
4. Tried to restore the backup file, "missmatched MD5 checksum". Tried to restore an earlier backup, same thing. Tried some other restore options such as restore boot, restore data, restore system etc, still same thing.
5. Then I read that clearing the dalvik cache may fix the issue, so I went into advanced options and cleared the dalvik cache, rebooted, now my phone won't turn on, nor will it boot into recovery mode. It will, however, boot into download mode.
Any help is appreciated.
If it can boot into download mode its not bricked.
Just odin flash a stock rom and start again.

Have I lost all my data?
Yeah, but you have your nandroid backups anyway.
But I would start fresh.

Okay so my phone decided to do a force close on everything that i tried to do so I turned it off and tried to turn it back on again but all i was getting was the galaxy screen flash up and then it would turn black.
I flashed with Odin 3 times now and it says that it was successfull but when i go to turn the phone on it reboots and says that the data wipe has failed and then continues to flash the galaxy screen and then black. Can someone please help. I am a noob and haven't done anything but flash my phone.
The answers you are going to get are to odin back to stock, however ive had this problem and to get past it I had to do a factory wipe all data in the recovery menu then it booted. You lose all data. Before you do that try cycling the phone through restarts with battery pulls, I had another issue where doing this kicked me into normal boot after about 18 tries. I'm no expert but this is how I got fixed. Mine was a busy box issue it was never installed right

yeah, i agree w/ kcp about the battery pull... I would try this to see if you can get your system up and running, so that way you can dl Titatium Backup and Rom Manager. I had a problem on mine that would not let me reinstall packages and then it would never leave recovery, but after i pulled the battery, rebooted, and downloaded rom manager, i found that it was the same issue as kcp (busy box had to be updated). I don't understand why, after you re-flashed the Rom w/ odin it is not working.... did you flash 2.1 or 2.2? Remember, after you flash with odin you need to wipe data and chached memory, then reboot (maybe a battery pull). Try to give more info about exactly how you flashed w/ odin.
Also my titanium says it downloads busy box but doesn't had to go get it from the market and put it in the x bin you might want to do the same when it boots to be safe.

How do i know if i flashed with 2.1 or 2.2? How do you wipe data and cached memory? I turned it back on after i flashed and it showed that it was rebooting and wiped the cached memory but the data wipe failed.
also, my phone is not unlocked
Update: I flashed with 2.2 but I did not know that it was for tmobile. I am with bell. Now i can't get it to go into download mode so that I can flash with the right rom. It also won't charge when plugged in. Am i going to have to just get a new phone?
anything on this yet? mine is cycling aswell and cant get it into DL mode ;(
I rooted my phone using REVOLUTIONARY and my phone keeps rebooting after about 30 seconds of being fully booted up. When it reboots I imagine it is trying to run an update. I currently have the Stock ROM installed and running 2.2.1. How should I handle this? My phone does not stay booted long enough to check the files on my SD card. I have searched the forums and I apologize if this has already been answered but I have not found it.
Pull the SD card out and check it on a computer if you have an usb adapter

Could also view the files by mounting the sdcard while in recovery through your computer.
having the same issues as OP
rooted with stock rom. wondering which files i should be looking for if i can mount the phone to computer to view and why i would be looking for them
this is my wifes phone. it was working better and more stable than mine. today at 10am i guess verizon sent a msg on her phone to update and it said 3minutes or ignore and i guess she let it wind down to 3m
now the phone reboots after 30s or so of being on. i tried removing the sd card. after it was removed i booted up with the same result.
it boots into recovery mode after a couple restarts. i did not make a backup because i figured - hey, stock rom i should have no problem doh
any suggestions
If you can get in recovery, install a stock/rooted on her phone. Shouldn't have to clear data. Just clear cache and dalvik. If it still reboots you'll have to clear all.

I had this same issue and all I had to do was clear the cache and dalvik. Then I rebooted and backed up with Ti BU. Then installed a new rom.
Thanks for info, works fine now

Having problems with my GS2 now, previously, it hanged, so I took out the battery and placed it back. Now, every single app keeps crashing on the main screen, and even when I went into the apps list to click a few apps, all of them doesn't work, just give me a force close error. What do I do? Reflash? I can't even backup with my titanium backup, it keeps crashing everytime I went into the app.
Keep getting the process android.process.acore has stopped, but other apps as well.
Try wiping just dalvik cache first if you have cwm. if that doesn't work factory rest. backup in cwm first.

Need some more information. Did you flash or do anything before the apps started to crash?
I'm bumping this because it happened again. I'm using MIUI, and it happened again, after factory restarting from the same previous error. I reinstalled my MIUI zip, now it gets stuck at the GSII bootscreen with the triangle logo. BTW, does nandroid backup messages?
It used to work, I unplugged my usb cable, off it, on it in the day, and that happened.
Oh, and nandroid has an error while backing up to sd card. I'm screwed.
Basically, this happened:

So my sister accidentally did this today. She is on the rooted official debloated ICS rom I installed for her. Now it keeps rebooting into recovery to try to install it, it fails, then reboots the phone normally, but every time the phone turns back on, verizon powers it down trying to install the update again.... She said she's been through the cycle like 6 times.
How does she fix this? And she's away at college so I can't do it for her so layman's terms would be best so I can pass along the instructions. Thanks!
If you have a backup you can start by just refreshing that. If it keeps going into recovery you'll have to flash a new rom again and download the OTA_Killer santod has posted here http://d-h.st/Tay.
If you dont have any roms to flash to, then boot into recovery, mount USB storage, and then go download a new rom from somewhere to load on your sdcard so you can flash it from within recovery.
Just boot into recovery wipe cache and dalvik 3 times. Reboot.Profit.
OTA does not install with custom recovery so it will fail. Just wipe cache and dalvik to clear failed update, then run OTA killer.

Thanks. She got it figured out and is back in action. Appreciate it!
I accidentally accepted the OTA also while rooted, however my boot looping seems to be a bit worse.
any ideas on what to do, if my tbolt reboots when I select recovery, and also factory reset?

I forget teh file name but I know if you have a file that's like PG05IMG.zip or the like on your sd card it may be trying to load that file and automatically reboot the phone?
You need to go into recovery and clear the caches. Radio files are named pg05img and they wouldn't cause a boot loop like that.

Thats what i initially thought was happening, but no radio/back files on my sd named like that. I think I may have to cut my losses as the usb port on my phone is also a bit messed up and I can't maintain a data connection to send commands to it

Eventually when the battery dropped below 35% it cancelled the update on it's own, now I just get the message asking to run the update and it wont let me put it off for more than 5 days. I still cannot seem to boot into recovery. Every time I chose it from the menu it just restarts. I have tried running the Thunderbolt tool, but it keeps giving me the following message:
c:\thunderbolt tool\support_files\Here
The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process
The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process
repeated over and over.
any suggestions would be appreciated
You need to remove the downloaded update from the cache

Hello,
I didn't do the system update before rooting the device and perhaps I should have, with the epic, touch, and note2 it was a bad idea to do system updates so I just skipped it. I rooted the phone and flashed TWRP on it without issue using the tools from galaxynote3root.com's. I then made a backup of the rom using TWRP. I then went to flash Galaxy-S-fre3-MD4FirmwareModemAIO.zip through TWRP which I think is what killed it but i'm not 100% certain, I just know it errored out / wouldn't let me flash the zip. I tried restoring from the TWRP with the backup I made, no luck.
I'm now stuck unable to get anything to boot stable, it always shows "Process system isn't responding" and dies shortly thereafter. I can occasionally get to the point where it sees icons but usually it just reboots. I think I might have nuked the modem but I can't seem to find a radio/modem thread for the sprint model and I don't know if the modems from the GSM thread are safe for the Sprint.
I have tried flashing N900PVPUBMI3_N900PSPTBMI3_N900PVPUBMI3_HOME.tar.md5 on it through Odin with the auto reboot on and off without luck.
hmm

Ah forgot to mention that I tried that, no joy. It goes through the caching of apps, sits forever at 'finalizing boot' and then goes into the reboot cycle.
Restore doesn't work and once u do that it borks your file system. Your phone is bricked and using Odin to go back to stock will not work. You can try but u need to get ur phone replaced and hopefully sprint doesn't look at your knox counter if not u got ur self a $700 paperweight

Mine did this before I even dared tried a restore...but you are right, once it happens theres no way to get it back up and running...Return it quick and just play dumb..
