[Q] SMS backup app - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi xda members,
i'd like to know if is there an app the backups the text messages (sms) right after you receive them? i mean the sms arrives and immediatly the app backs it up.
thanks

There is this one app that backs up all your mesages into an xml file
but i am not aware of any app that backs a text as soon as it arrives
Sry :/

SMS Backup And Restore from the Market is as close as you will get. You can setup automated backups. I have mine set to do a backup overnight, that way all the texts I get that day are added on to the XML file overnight.

(App request) SMS

Is there an SMS app here or on the market that I'm able to do the following.
is there a way to block / hide a specific person from texting u on the stock message app or on the market, like let's say I received a text from someone and than I don't want it to be shown on my stock app but on another sms app that i can only view with a password or etc..I only need one person not to be shown at all but all other text could come on the stock message app...the reason I ask its because I have a work phone n its suppost to be work only but sometimes I use it for personal reasons and than my boss gets in a habit of checking our phones that we are only using the phone work related.
Thanks

I think Call Master, which is in beta, does that.
Shady SMS is what I use. I absolutely love it. Hides their MMS as well.

Private SMS MMS box works too...it doesn't show up in your app drawer and you can set a custom notification icon and / or text notification... You use your dialer to enter your password...

Not unless you backed them up. They may be there if you did a nandroid right before flashing and restore from it.

going forward, Go SMS has a real handy backup tool built in
I personally have been using Super Backup from the Market. It has an option to backup SMS, Contacts & Call Logs to .XML files. You can even mail them to yourself from within the app
If you use gmail as your email, SMS Backup + is cool.
It allows you to automatically backup SMS, MMS and call log entries using a separate label in Gmail / Google Calendar. It is also possible to restore SMS and call log entries back to the phone.
Thanks for the tips!

[Q] SMS messages won't load - Thread Size Limit?

I sent a text, and it never showed as sent in the thread. The recipient did receive the text, but the thread would not update sent or received after that. I closed out of messages, and re-opened it, but that thread will not load now. I have it set so that old messages do not get deleted, and that thread is at 997k. Is there a size limit that the EVO can load?
I have done an SMS backup, deleted and reloaded all messages, but that thread will still not load.
Also, is there any way to view the messages from the .hbk file, on a pc?
TIA!
Had that same problem a while back, had to just delete all my texts. I don't know what the limit, but I had upwards of 10,000 texts and nothing no thread would load until cleared.

Click to collapse
open your message app go to settings/mms settings and you can make changes there and also settings/general/storage settings you can set a limit there

I only 200mb of data and I can't leave my data running all day and most of my family use mms to group message each other. I've been using chomp sms which is a good app but if I have my data off I don't get any notifications when I get an mms until I turn on my data. What I want to do is to receive notifications with my data off then I can download the messages a contribute to the thread. Am I doing something wrong or is one of my settings off? Please help.
