My ace was fully charged this morning so I unplugged it. Later on in the day (about 4 hours later) I took my phone out of my pocket and it was nearly half gone! I was worried so I just left it to see what would happen. A few hours later I took it out again and it displayed 19% charging. I was not even charging it! then 5 mins later 1% charging! Whats going on? I haven't done anything with the phone today!

Just tried the watchdog app. No misbehaving apps
I don't wish to insult your intelligence, so apologies in advance, but you have checked all your usual settings are in order, no random GPRS activation?
I mean 4 hours would be about right for most Ace's if they have 3G, Wifi, Bluetooth etc. all on all at once continuously.
If that's not the issue then try cleaning the connectors on the battery with some rubbing alcohol.

I unplugged my phone at 100% charge around 230am, woke up around 1015am with literally 50% left. I had WiFi on the entire night (strong signal).
Unplugged 7h 39m
Cell standby 30%
Phone idle 29%
WiFi 16%
Android OS 8%
Maps 7%
Android system 7%
Display 2%
I've stopped blockbuster, removed city id. My only widget is the clock/weather widget set to update every 2 hours (hence maps).
Auto-Sync off, Facebook/twitter updates off.
Looking at my battery history under partial wake usage there is nothing abnormal. What could possibly be killing my battery so much?
I'm really looking for some help here guys.

If you click on "Cell Standby 30%" what does it say after "Time without signal" ?
I think its a radio issue. the 4g radio going in and out cuz on 3g only I don't see that problem at all

I was on WiFi the entire time.
If your rooted. I've had excellent results by setting a "screen off" profile in setcpu to a max setting of 245. It dramatically improved my standby time. I lost a total of 6% leaving the phone off the charger friday night. I've mentioned this in a few threads already without much response, but it works. I set up a test for this on a DF thread.
I think something is ramping up the processor during standby on these phones. That tweak helps a lot.
Good luck
System panel is what you need to find the offending app. The paid version though, but its totally worth every penny. It let's you track individual apps and what CPU they use, and shows you a top list of highest to lowest. I use it daily to track my apps.
Off topic, I've been unplugged for 15 hours now with 71% battery left. Of course this is over night idle use, but ginger bread made enormous improvements to idle power. It stays level at 10mA in standby which was never that good before.
My experience is almost exactly as the OP. I just posted this screenshot in another forum. I'll share it here. I did the exact same thing as the OP. I charged it to 100% and overnight it dropped to 49%. I haven't the foggiest idea what is killing my battery.

edit: forgot to mention I am rooted and debloated. I too am on wifi 100% at my house. I also have no "time without signal".

wow peeps can be such a** hats sometimes. I think its the radio with the 3g/4g.
My battery life in 4G is terrible (no wifi on, no bluetooth, no email, facebook, etc., checking automatically). In my 3G area near my work I get much better life.
Not rooted yet.
Obviously it all depends on what you've done while the screen was turned on but it'd be an interesting statistic.
Overall battery:
26hrs on stock rom 1.8.3
16hrs on gingerblur 3.1
Both with more than 3:30hrs of display on
About 24hrs on battery with 4hr15min with the display on. I think I have a screenshot on FB, lol.
I might be on to something here then..
Am using GladiAtrix 3 b0.2, before I installed it I did a battery stats reset through CWM
(advise from KennethPenn, dev of Gingerblur):
"""- Reset battery in CWM (under Advanced)
- Drain your battery to 0 percent and let it turn the phone off, then charge it back up to 100%."""
On my phone are more than 120 apps installed. Battery Manager is on "Maximum ".
The result is fairly amazing; the display time of almost 7 hrs is under heavy use; wlan & sync constantly on, Xscope & XDA app non-stop checking, market downloads, etc!! I have never had such good battery!
I advise everyone to do the above, it really helps.

That's right, only 2g unless I need 3g for data. I'm always around a wifi though.
No task manager, android 2.2 does all that automatically.
Not sure battery manager is so aggressive, I think it takes a bit longer than 15 minutes.

6hrs is my personal best, straight stock phone.
I've just put mine on charge, prob got about 40-50 hours, mostly standby. Seems a lot but I just unpacked my charger from going away for the weekend.
Prob about 4 hours talk time, prob 3 hours web. No GPS, no wifi.
Strange thing is, the battery thing said '5 hours since unplugged' which is definately not the case, is this a known issue? 5 hours since I rebooted it maybe.
when you reboot - the time since unplugged counter is reset.

a little off topic but howd you get that 1% battery mod and not the ugly circle, this looks kinda nice sitting at 33%, can one get that without gingerblur , stock plus root would do?
on topic, i get about 2 days on a medium usage on my battery , 1.5 days on heavy, i dont think i could use another phone after getting this much battery life, i just wonder what gingerbread would do to this phone
5 1/2 hours, with 3G turned on. Although the last 45 minutes of that it was just sitting at the launcher, I was waiting for the battery to die on it. I usually average 2-3 hours, but when I charge my phone I usually still have about 50% left.
Seeing as I rarely use data, I may have to try that 2G trick. Maybe I could charge it every other day instead of each night.
My best "Screen On" time is close to 4.5 hrs running Greyblur. For those just posting "time since unplugged"..screen on time is a much better indicator for battery life imo because it means actual use. The phone sitting idle in your pocket or on your table for 48 hrs is misleading to some people because then they wonder why they're only getting 12hrs with 5hrs of actual "useage" (screen on time).
For my style of use..battery saver modes and apps don't do me any favors because then I miss out on my IM's which I rely on for most of my communication. And unfortunately 2G isn't an option any more for most of us Canadian users..as 2G has been pretty much phased out.

Hey guys, I just got my new GS2 this afternoon and i'm enjoying it a lot but there is a HUGE problem: the battery! I've been charging for the last hour or so and the percentage has only gone up by about 10% also, the entire phone is really warm/hot especially for doing simple things such as checking email and browsing android market. I checked the battery usage stats and it says 57% is due to display! This is even though I set the brightness to the lowest possible, turned off auto-rotate, no live wallpapers, no animations, etc.
Has anyone else had this problem/know how to fix this? Thanks a bunch.
Try shutting it off and take the battery out. After it's cooled off some put the battery back in, turn it on, and try charging it again.

Just tried what you said, didn't work: charging for 10 minutes left it still at 67%. I started charging it at around 5pm or so at 28%, and now it's 9pm at 67%....what gives? that's an average of under 10%/hour.....

Sometimes first charges can take awhile. You won't be really able to tell if there's an issues until after a few charge and drain cycles.
Not an answer you're looking for I know. A draw back of a new smart phone.
But keep an eye on the heat. Download a temperature app so you can check to see if it's getting too hot. 50+ celcius is not good. Can damage the battery at those temps.

Hi guys,
Is anyone having battery drain issues with their new sgs3's?
With my one it wouldn't last 12 hours without dying. Also if its at 100% it'll drop to 70% overnight while i sleep (6-7 hours) and thats with power saver on, sync off and running juicedefender.
Today I factory reset the phone and only installed flash, whatsapp and dolphin browser. Have wifi on, sync, data, gps and bluetooth off. Havent got pictures of battery stats yet since I only reset it half an hour ago.
So is anyone else experiencing battery drain? if so have you fixed it? and how?
Are there any apps I should be aware of that drain the battery?
I would remove juice defender.
Uninstall lightflow app if you are using it.
Use betterbstterystats to identify any wakelocks. The xda thread of the same name will be able to help with solutions.
Other than that follow general tips on increasing battery life that are found all over xda.
This device is easily capable of much better battery life than you are getting.
Good luck.

No issues at all so far, in my case. In fact this is the first Android phone I've owned that has no battery-related issues
Based on my previous experience what you can try doing is (a) install CPU Spy to see if your phone is entering 'deep sleep' appropriately (b) install BetterBatteryStats to identify offending applications.
Even the 'Battery' section in settings is useful -- just check if any apps are keeping the phone awake for longer than you've actually used them ('Stay Awake' number).
ok well ive installed bad ass battery monitor since its free. Also since I did factory restore i charged it to full and in 1 hour 44 mins it used 7% on idle. Going to charge it to full again and use it normally to see how it is.
Only apps ive installed is XDA, badd ass battery, dolphin browser and whatsapp.

Not too happy with my battery either. Fully charged over night and its down to 89% 1hr 30 later. Is that normal? However, you did mention lightflow earlier though which I have installed - Is that a massive battery drain? My battery stats seem to show display as being the big culprit but I have brightness set to it lowest setting.
Also, can't seem to find battery monitor pro on play?

When they die, they die. $10 off ebay got me an oem replacement. Heavy gaming I get a half day to full, depends on game. Regular usage gets almost 2 days worth. With the new one I try not to make it a habit to charge it while over 20% battery and regularly let it die out on its own and use fera's technique to keep it conditioned. Had the same battery for a year now.
