I just got a 32gb SDXC card for the dock and it works great. However, when i put shows on the card they stay on the card and i can play them no problem from my prime. But the next day when i access my SD card 1/2 the shows are gone? not all of them and the ones left are not corrupt.
Could this be a card issue or hardware issue?
i noticed that the prime only reads the card when the tablet is not sleeping and on. This means it disconnects otherwise. So if its in the process of reading the card or adjusting something on it, and i shut my prime or put it to sleep, it might cause data loss. That is my theory. but it is probably just a bad cad and needs to be exchanged lol.
I have wondered about this also. With the microSD card before you remove it you ate supposed to unmount it first. So I figure the regular SD card is also mounted to the tablet and not the dock so when you undock the tablet you are not properly unmounting. Is this correct or is there something else at play here? Maybe you are supposed to shut off the screen first before undock based on your finding its only mounted when screen is on?

when the sd is in the dock, and the tablet is docked, the sd is mounted directly to tablet. there is a notification that allows you to safely unmount it for removal, which i do EVERY time i take the dock off. i dont know if this is the problem OP is having, just trying to shed some light for ya
The thing is I haven't removed my prime from my dock in a few days. I am mainly asking about turning the screen off. Because every time i wake my tablet I see "preparing storage" or something like that. That means it was unmounted

ooooh i see what you mean, when i woke up today, i noticed mine did the same thing! thats really weird... i assumed it was always connected. we all know what happens when you assume...
i wonder if there is a mod that can be done to force a constant connection through sleep? wifi stays connected, and so does my micro sd, so i know things can still maintain connection while in deep sleep

good idea! id do it, but i killed my primes battery lol guess ill have to try tomorrow
I guess it unmounts it because of the dock's sleep mode.
Deactivate the dock powersaving mode in the settings and see if it still happens.

ive yet to lose anything, dood. im thinking its the card. if i remember right, there really isnt much danger in unmounting an sd card as long as the device it was connected was not actively accessing it at the time of dismount. or this may just be my stupids talking.
Just FYI, I have found that the USB and SD are not hot swappable with mine, I am sure it is a driver thing, but if I want the Prime to see them after I plug them in I have to reboot.

So, this morning I was at the beach, phone was fine, later i go into the bag of things I brought out to check my shiny new Evo 3D, only to find it turned off, and I haven't been able to get a thing working all day, won't come on, wont give me a startup vibrate, screen flash, charge light, or anything. No water damage either I've checked the water indicator and nothing is different. Any ideas on how to get it back up and running.
Also, my girlfriends OG Evo will come on, but no screen, screen will not show anything even though capacitive buttons glow a normal, no water damage on her phone either.
Did you get sand in it? Maybe too much heat while it was in the bag?
try to pull the battery. I have seen this on my rooted evo 4g with a custom rom.

I've tried different sd cards, and yes they stopped at the same time, I guess heat is the only option
This happened to my Evo 3D after a couple of hours out of the box.
This might be a dumb suggestion, but try it anyway. Take off your battery cover and put it back on. When I incorrectly put on the cover, the power button was jammed. Just a suggestion.

Never had this issue my guess is it got cooked its like leaving your laptop in the car in the heat of the day a bad idea. Think the phones got spanked. I like the way they redid the power buttton on the 3d no more cracked housing or squeeky button
Same here! I just picked mine up from the store about 2 hours ago and it refuses to power on - i've tried it with and without the battery cover, as well as with different SD cards.
It happened after i booted up with a 16gb kingston card pulled from my original EVO - it booted fine the first time, after pulling the battery again now it won't come back up.
Hope this isn't one of those launch-day epidemic problems..
*edit* - tried again after swapping a 3rd microSD in, and it came up - i was able to replace it with my 16gb card, and it's working fine now. Must have something to do with the external storage
so my nook tablet is rooted with indirects method
i have no idea what happened or why...
its been rooted since i got it a week before Christmas
when i picked it up it was hot as hell
now that its cooled off the back isnt stuck to whatever inside it. when i squeeze it it kinda clicks
i cant get it to turn on now the screen is just black and nothing happens when i connect to a computer either
any idea of why this happened. its not overcloked.
do you think i can return it to the store?

Try to boot it up a few times over the next day or so, if it still doesn't turn on go to B&N. This is a hardware failure and is fully covered by the warranty. If it does turn on, then flash it back to 1.4.0 and take it in.

When you plug it into the wall charger, does the USB cable turn yellow like it is charging the Nook?
Have you tried pressing power and both volume buttons at the same time for a few seconds? I have had something similar happen to me and that fixed it.
thanks for the advise,
it turned on after awile but im afraid its going to happen again.
do you think if i call B&N and tell them it over heated they will replace it with a new one?
also can you flash it to 1.4.0/1 if it doesnt turn on or show up on the computer (for future reference)
the power cord did turn yellow just in case you were wondering...

I would have the exact same fear if I had, what is clearly, a defective device. You can easily flash 1.4.0 with an SD card and some method by which to alter the data on that SD card. A phone or card reader would work perfectly.
Here is the link to the 1.4.0 restoration thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1402190
Barnes and Noble is obligated to replace or repair your device, per the warranty.
Unroot it and factory restore it. If they won't exchange it then just tell them you are returning it under the holiday return policy.

I'm not a Nook scientist, though I'm guessing your battery might be the culprit. Rapid discharge is a known issue with lithium-based batteries, which usually causes the battery to explode or balloon out. It's possible that your battery bulged a little bit either due to manufacturer defect or possible introduction of moisture, explaining the "clicking" issue that occurs now.
If my crazy theory sounds remotely like what is happening, I'd highly suggest getting your Nook Tablet back to a 1.4.0 (better at 1.4.1 if you can keep it on long enough) state and swapped at the store. Simply explain it was charging and it got really hot and now clicks when you press on the screen.
This is an extreme example, though here is a picture gallery I found of an iPhone with a bulged-out battery: http://imgur.com/a/D2lyT#4

Hello all.
Anyone seeing issues when the unit goes to sleep while in the dock?
I've been in the "i'm not having any problems" crowd until today. Up until yesterday morning, I was on stock but rooted ICS and was using Titanium backup to freeze (not uninstall) apps I didn't want. Everything was fine. When I saw the update available I just let if run OTA and that seemed to work just fine too. I used it all day yesterday and everything was still working fine though it did not seem as though I had any real performance increase from the update. I had also lost root in the process anyway, so I decided to do a factory reset and get a clean (not upgrade) install of 4.1
Last night after the install I used it quite extensively and was very pleased. Got all my apps set up and all was good. But....I was NOT using it in the dock. Put it in the dock just before bed time and hooked up the charger. When I got up this morning all was still good.
But this is where I started using it in the dock and the trouble started. While I'm actually using it, all is good. But if I put it aside with the unit open it eventually reboots just sitting there. But ONLY in the dock. NOT when its out of the dock. Here is the situation that seems to trigger it:
1. In the dock and not used for a while
2. Charger is NOT plugged in
3. Lid is open I.E. Thinking of it as a laptop where the screen is the "lid"
If the charger is plugged in, no problem
If the lid is closed when not in use, no problem
If the lid is open and no charger hooked up - problem
It seems to me like it has to be a power management/sleep issue?
Since I don't have root at the moment, I went ahead and uninstalled all my root stuff like SU, Titanium backup. Over clocking tools, etc - all things that did me no good without root
I can confirm that this is happening to me after updating yesterday. My prime has actually rebooted twice this morning while being docked. Maybe ASUS screwed something up in the dock drivers? This is very annoying and possibly a show-stopper for me.
I read in another thread there should also be an ota for the dock, maybe you need that first? I'm still on work, can't wait to get home and try everything myself
Not sure if you guys know this but it was an issue with JB for tf300 and for those of us on hairybean1.2 based on jb for the 300. For those if you have anything in the dock (sd card, usb hard drive) when it sleeps you can get sod or reboots. Hope thats the case for you because there is already an update for the tf300 to address that.
The temp solution if you didnt catch it is to take out the card or usb when you are not using it.

Hmmm. I do have a 64 GB SDXC in the dock. I'll give that a try right now and report back.
Edit. Hmmm again. I just went to remove the SDXC from the dock and discovered that in the quick settings (or whatever its called in the lower right corner) and see that the little icon with the red X that you used to be able to click to dismount the card is no longer there. So far its not rebooting itself after removing the card though.

I've been having the "reboot when in dock, lid open, power save engaged" issue, too. And I do have an 8GB SD card in the dock. I'll experiment with this when I get home, see if it avoids the problem. Aside from these reboots, I've actually been enjoying JB a lot, so I hope that's all it is. (Though obviously I'd like a fix, eventually - it worked fine under ICS.)
What should the dock's firmware version be at, anyway, after the upgrade?

Hmmm. My dock is showing up as TF201-DOCK-0207 so I seem to have the updated version?
Removing the SD card did stop the reboots so that's an OK temporary solution as I only use it for movies. Hopefully that will be fixed soon.
But no matter what I do I no longer see the x to dismount the card - same applies to my micro sd in the prime itself.

My power button doesn't work... If I stay it pressed it reboots... But I can't take the tablet into sleep...
With dock inserted the same thing... Bue when I close the lid it switch off screen and when I open it wakes up ok....
And even... sometime my tablet switchs the screen ON for no reason...................... can anyone please give some advise? It is possible to downgrade to stock ICS ?

And without dock? You can put the tablet into sleep and out of the sleeping mode pressing the power button?
Ah, I love the geniuses on this forum. I was totally loving this update, until I sat here and got 4 reboots within the past hour. Lo and behold, I have the dock and a 32GB SD card in it. I guess for now, until Asus fixes this bug, the SD card is being removed. That is way better than constantly waiting for the reboot to complete.
Thanks so much for this thread! I love my Prime and am glad I don't have to start hating it like so many have.

it will come out of sleep while docked - but you have to be quick - if you leave it more than 1 minute it will power off while sleeping. I haven't tested it undocked - but I'm assuming it will work fine - as it seems to be the sd-card in the dock that is causing the issue

Please don't take this the wrong way but, thank God someone else has this problem!
I've done numerous Google searches and I've not found the problem mentioned by anyone else!
It didn't do it when I bought it but I'm not sure at what point it did start. It can go for a week or so with no problem and then it will do it randomly - sometimes twice a day (never had it more than 3 times in one day).
It happened twice yesterday but not at all today - today I've used my phone for internet, map navigation, playing music & multiple everyday apps.
I've not done anything with the phone since I got it, it was SIM-free bought in the UK.

Total device space available: 1.4GB

1.4GB should still be sufficient surely!
However, interestingly, I thought everything except my Apps went to the SD card as per my set up but there's 776MB of pics/vids & even 5.21MB of audio.
Now, I can't for the life of me find how I can change my storage settings - anyone?!

try resetting it to factory settings (backup your files first) then observe..maybe there is a program or apps that causes the random shut off. if the problem still persist bring it to service if it still has warranty.
quick question.. do you have power saving mode enabled ? if so.. u could switch it on or off, to see if that does anything.

Not confident rooting the phone and not at the stage of willing to try a factory reset!
I'm not convinced that it's everytime but a significant factor I've noted is that it's common when there are app updates.
When I turn the phone back on, there is usually an icon at the top of the screen alerting me to an update.
shahaf-l, is this something you recognise?
Mine turned off and it hasnt turned on again, apparently its not charging the battery. I took it to a repair shop and they said is death, warranty was invalidated due to a drop I had that happened long before the fail ocurred.
Hope someone finds a solution. I will try charging the battery on a battery charger and try turning it on again, hopefully the phone is just not charging and thats why I can no longer turn it on.
Decided to leave the issue until a new firmware update came along as I had a feeling there could be one - there hasn't been!
However, my phone hasn't turned itself off for over a month now......

Same for me. I hope the NM card is not defective. It has been working for some month without issue...
Happens to me on the Mate 20 X as well. Really annoying
Same thing here. Just got a card two weeks ago.
It's possible it could be a software issue say for instance the powergenie application killing the system process for the card. I have uninstalled the powergenie but not got a card yet.
I had the same issue with my Mate 20 pro. I looks like NM card reader loose contacts. I used very thin double sided tape to stick my NM card to the tray. This will lift the card slightly and of course will create a tighter fit in the slot (the idea is to make NM card contacts press harder against card reader pins inside the phone) . So far so good. Message was appearing couple times a day, but now whole 24 hours and nothing. Tape must be very thin otherwise NM card pins inside the phone can be damaged while sliding the tray back in. I'll keep on monitoring. Hopefully it will solve the problem.

Exactly what I thought. The stupid aggressive process-closing practice killing something it should not be.
