What would it take for you to stay with HTC? - HTC EVO 3D

I just wanted to know what would it take for you to stay with HTC? It seems like most people on here dont like the galaxy s2 but always say that when sprint gets the galaxy nexus there gona get it. Me personally both of my lines are are eligible for upgrades and i passed on the iphone rush and galaxy s2. The 1st evo to me completely changed the way i did and will always look at a phone. Not the iphone or any blackberry but the evo4g. The evo 3d although wasnt as ground breaking still made me a happy htc customer. So i ask....what will HTC have to give us in there next major sprint phone to keep people from jumping ship to the galaxy? For me its basically just ICS and LTE. Possibly a camera as good as the og evo as well. So before anyone says it ill say it cool story bro....stop trolling blah blah blah....i just seriously wana know bc it seems like alot of people are losing faith in HTC

Stop using ****ty cameras, stop using ****ty screens, use better speakers, change the damn phone design for once. They need to get it, yes the first Evo was revolutionary but that ship has sailed. Change the design on the phones and make them thinner and make sense optional. It wastes too much of the phones resources because of how bloated it is. That happens ill consider coming back to HTC but it's not likely so I probably wont. And FYI the camera in the Evo 4g sucked even more than the one in the 3D does. All their cameras suck that ive used.

Make Sense removable.

They should make sense faster. I'm on mean Rom right now and its blazing fast. I don't see why HTC couldn't have made it as fast as that. And what everybody else says. Camera, screen, thinner. Personally I love sense, but it can be better

Not planning on going anywhere here. Just waiting for the quadcore S4 chip HTC phone to drop for sprint personally. LTE modem being built directly in the die is interesting to me...
though I hear the complaints about camera, but personally I find it suitable for a phone, if they make it better, then so be it.
As for making phones thinner....im not on that boat here. Id rather have them the same thickness and size they are now. Holding those thin iPhones just doesn't feel right in the hand to me. Also when you go thinner you sacrifice the already slim battery life...

Same here brother. I know what this phone is capable of and snatched it when I had my Hero.
I'm just hoping the development last just as long.

Im not to worried about a thinner phone myself because i always put them in big cases like the defender or ballistic. I agree with the speaker comment though....i never realized how bad it was until i heard my friends iphone playing pandora on speaker

An HTC Nexus device.

HTC needs to innovate once again and get rid of the "cookie cutters", which have only slight differences. They should focus on 3-4 models across the board, ranging from entry level to high end.....their should be NO differences in look or features between carriers. This would also force carriers to focus more on improving their networks rather than flaunting that they have a "better" phone, which is what they should be doing.
Major (Android) updates in a timely fashion..... If we get ICS by June....and I do not believe it will be any earlier, that will make a full 8 months since source code was dropped to the open community. It is also well known that manufacturers have the code months before it is granted open source. With the expertise and resources that HTC possesses, 4-6 months is ample time to build and push an update....

Also i was on a service call and had to do service in one of sprints corporate buildings in fairfax virginia. A sprint tech there told me that the galaxy nexus will have face regonizition technology to unlock your phone. Hopefully htc has something similiar

yeah the only thing that might get me to jump the gun early is depending on the details of when we will see quadcore from qualcomm in phones. The current S4 Quadcore chip is the APQ8064 which is paired with the Adreno 320 BUT that chip is geard toward more tablet and mobile computing devices rather than phones.
Reading more and more around it seems the most we will see at lease in the "near future"(this year) is the MSM8960 which is their dualcore S4 but its paired with the Adreno 225...
Think I read the time we'd see even the APQ8064 is around the holidays too. So maybe next year for qualcomm quadcore S4 chips in phones?
The dualcore S4's are real improvement though still having modem's built in the die and getting the improvement there no one else is thus far...

I am in the minority but I prefer sense UI to asop. ICS is no different. However that is a very small deal when it comes to which phone I choose next. I have the EVO 4g and that sold me to get EVO3D on opening day. While I stick with HTC? Sure but only if they make best product to choose from that can be rooted. They best step it up because gIII looking good and all it would take is Motorola to unlock and I'd possibly leave. They have me.....for the moment

Those are all things that the Rezound has over this phone. The camera has been quoted to be one of the best available on a smart phone, and it has a higher screen density than the GNex because of 720p on a smaller screen. Design is different as well.

Oh ok....thanks for clearing that up.

Never really had a problem with the form factor of the EVO or the EVO 3D. If I could get the same Sony cam that's in the 4s, better camera/camcorder software, like the 3D aspect, so improve upon that. 1080p recorder. Definitely must be more powerful, so either a quad-core processor or a dual dual-core processor works for me.

[Q] EVO 3D or Samsung Within ?

Is this Samsung Withing (Galaxy S2) a worthy candidate to consider to buy over the 3D ?
Got my upgrade override done yesterday..I want the 3D but maybe I should hold off a few weeks for upcoming Samsung Within ?
Thoughts ?
Seems like the 3D will be the winner because of dev support. Look at the evo vs the epic! Yet another battle between sammy and HTC and devs once again went with HTC.....if you care about custom roms and dev support that is.

I believe that more devs will move over to the Within ?
the reviews for it are just to good ... compared to the 3vo ..
i could be wrong but that is what i think will happen
Why do people keep doing this? You come to a forum where the majority of us have a 3VO and love it and ask everyone which they would choose this phone or another. This is probably the 48463 thread.

LOL really is that so? What is there to believe when its already a fact. Most if not all the devs from the evo (which had the best dev support I've ever seen on any android phone) already have this phone. I highly doubt they will abandon HTC to move to a SamSuck. Just don't see it happening....sorry

Even if HTC developers don't move to it i'm sure it will have alot more Dev support than older Samsung phones ... which is why i WANT the 3vo but im wondering how much support the Within will get ...
The within only has 320000 pixels (800 x 400). The 3vo has a 960 x 540 resolution which is 518400. You're losing out 198400 pixels -- no thanks. I honestly feel like my EVO 4g looks horrible compared to my 3vo. I think in the long run the 3vo will have great developer support.

Nope.
I did a search before I posted it.
There's about 2 of them and they were all prior to the release of the 3D.
It's a valid question these days, especially with the way devices are being rolled out so often.

Within will have more built in memory and super amoled screen.
Both running 1.2 GHz chipsets.
Within comes with 8 MP camera (2x5MB) for 3D.
These phones are very close and I think whichever phone will have bigger dev support will win.

I understand that you have hope, but just don't see people leaving HTC for sammy. The galaxy s 2 isn't that impressive if you ask me. It feels cheap, like really cheap based on what many reviews said on YouTube; which I can believe because every sammy phone I've felt had that cheap feel i.e nexus, galaxy series, epic etc. This is my look on it: sam has better gpus, HTCs have the better processors (qc). Sammy has better screens, HTC has better design. If you want to take a chance to see if sgs2 will have a much support by all means go ahead but I'm sticking with my 3D.

The within may not even be close to the evo 3d because they are low on super amoled + screens and their custom processor.. it depends what version sprint gets.
I'll be switching only because I've come to really value smartphone camera/multimedia features and HTC provided no upgrade in that dept (amazingly, given its camera is its distinguishing feature). We'll hopefully see by July24 what the devs can do in that dept tho.

I can understand that; me personally im not really in to taking photos on my phone but i must admit ive been taking a bunch of 3D photos lately. Camera isnt a big deal to me but the GPU is; it seems the adreno 220 was the right choice! I think HTC did a great job with the hardware they chose for this device, but i could live w/o the camera buttons and the side charger port lol....
HTC
I've not owned a Samsung in several years however my daughter has a Samsung Galaxy S that I have played with. I just like HTC better, navigation, touch screen feel, menus etc.
I personally would only wait if there was another HTC dual core phone coming soon from Sprint, I'm stuck with Sprint. I chose HTC
One thing is speaking for SGSII that while we spending many many manhours trying to get root Sammy gave the SGS to Cyanogen guys month ago.
That phone has a large support and dev community all over Europe already.
It will come out rooted and ready for CM.
It's a big plus IMHO.
While HTC is just promissing unlocked bootloade Sammy did it without any promisses or big words.

A few questions about sprint

So some of you might know me... Some may not but, I've been developing roms for Verizon's HTC phones for year's, and I think I might want to try a different carrier for awhile and sprint is at the top of my list... Don't get me wrong I love the user base from the Verizon peeps but it just keeps getting smaller and smaller... The last 2 devices I've had Incredible 2 and Rezound just seemed like they died before they got going by that I mean no support other than me and a couple other devs...
So what I'm asking is what are your thoughts about sprints service... And do you think the LTE should be my next device? I've played around with a lot of the new HTC phones and the LTE seems to be better than the other's, so it will most likely be my next phone, but I want to hear what you all think?

I love my LTE and have had Sprint service for nearly 15 years. No complaints here...Sure, the 3G speed isn't that great, but that should change with Network Vision project. I live in Baltimore so I get pretty decent speeds right now, but there are plenty of others that are not.
Customer Service: never had an issue with them
Dropped Calls/Missed Calls: not nearly as many as with AT&T and some others that my friends use. Seems pretty stable.
Data: 3G isn't great, but, it works and is unlimited.
Bills: Never had an issue with Billing
Hope that helps somewhat.
EDIT: I ran your NEWTS RC3 on the EVO 3D and loved it. Couldn't change ROMS after flashing yours because nothing came close...
You should definitely come over to the EVO 4G LTE forums and hook us up. LOL...
Do it newt. Data speeds are pretty decent in major cities, price is right and this phone is a beast. Two best parts: screen and audio quality. I came from the 3d and am glad I left the drama and subparness of that phone behind. Ran your sense 4.0 port at the end of my time with the 3d and loved it. Lets just hope sprint doesn't forget about this device like the 3d. Oh and there's no drama here like the 3d. Come join the party newt, we need more devs like you.
The phone is a beast, sprint is what it is

I've been with Sprint for 11yrs, it's been a rocky ride at times but they've improved substantially over the last several. I love my LTE but a friend of mine just got the GS3 and I was playing around with it and it's a really nice phone. That being said, the selfish part in me wants as many quality developers as possible committed to the LTE to try and bring development here to the level it was with the OG EVO. Since you're a developer and the phone will likely stay bone stock just long enough for you to root it, it really comes down to specs and personal preference as to design and build quality. LTE is a little lighter and seems a little thinner, GS3 seems a little more soldly built (even with it being all plastic). There's an issue of the LTE bending just above the kickstand due to the aluminum being so thin and weak in that area. IMO the LTE has a slightly better screen but the GS3 screen is still beautiful. GS3 has far more storage available to it and a removable battery. I've actually been thinking of switching to the GS3 just because all I really want is a fully working, solid, stable AOSP build and I have a feeling the GS3 is going to get there first.

I feel the same, my last 4 were Touch Diamond, OG EVO, 3D, and LTE. Honestly, I'd rather have you and as many other developers here as possible to help make this thing greater than it already is.

If your willing to take the sacrifice from insanely fast data to Sprints mediocre data until LTE really starts going, I think you'll see this as a nice upgrade from HTC's previous devices. The build quality is something I didn't expect, because its really that nice. The one thing that I still have yet to get over on this phone, is this beautiful screen.
If you decide to come to the EVO-side I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

The EVO LTE is awesome compared to any other phone out there, period. Only draw back on the phone is not being able to take out the battery. Everything else on the EVO destroys the competition. (Well not destroy, just get the phone you won't be disappointed.) Sprints service is better than they get credit for I think. Though they need to work faster on 4G so we can stop getting charged for something we cannot use and so they can stop BSing that it is for data coverages. 3G speed is what you would expect really. Unlimited everything is a big plus. And their customer service is sub par but I think most carriers are.
From what I read here, your the man. Make it happen chief!
Would be good to have you here newt

Word... I WILL NOT buy a phone from another manufacturer. I feel that HTC's build quality is unmatched and honestly I love Sense with Nova instead of Rosie (i know that isn't a popular opinion).
Sprint has been good to me here in Charleston, Wv. I have the OG Evo, the Evo 3D, the HTC Flyer tablet and now the Evo 4G LTE... wouldn't trade this phone for anything currently on the market.
In this area on 3G I seem to average between 1500 and 1700 mbps and that is plenty for me as I am usually on Wifi... I honestly don't care much if 4G even comes to this area and of the handful of dropped calls I have ever had, I was talking to someone on AT&T so I tend to believe that it was on their end.
Sprint service is decent i have had worse t-mobile "cough" phones seen alot nicer on sprint if your an htc fan..excited to see you considering the lte

Samsungs is easily bypassable. Which is where I plan on going. And it's not like "htc's unlockable" BL does all that much good. If it did we wouldn't need to s-off.

Well, it started with the many replacements of the tbolt, then HTC's hard stance against updating their tablets kinda pushed me over the edge, then they updated the flyer/view to broken software and they wont even fix it. Now the Rezound is having touchscreen issues. So I'm just tired of dealing with the problems and the lack of OEM support after purchase. I appreciate the Dev community for the zound, but sammy seems to be stronger in that dept. So I think I am going to give them a shot. I won't touch Moto with a ten foot pole. It may be a bad move, but I'm willing to take that risk after all the issues I have had recently with HTC. So for me, from here on out, it's going to be Nexus, or Samsung.
Samsung is worse.
I love my Rez and I still think of it as probably one of the, if not the most undervalued android phone released to date, but I don't see myself going for yet another carrier exclusive device after this. Of course, reviews might be so great for the DNA that I could change my mind but so far I am not that impressed.
Having said that however, the lack of a LTE capable Nexus 4 kinda limits the options for those looking to upgrade atm and I really cant see myself with a Galaxy S device. Wish Sony would be given a chance at penetrating the US market, they seem to strike a fair balance between corporate dev support, hardware and software quality.
I'll be getting this. The hardware and build quality will be top notch, it can be unlocked through HTCs dev website and be able to load cm. It was between this and the note but son, I am dissapoint at it having the older gen exynos and 720p screen on a 5.5 inch screen.
no, my next phone will be honor 2 or note 2
battery is important factor to me now
i dont think i will ever came back to htc
even im sense-boy
Nah, samsung isn't worse.

Its looking like ill most likely be getting it. I'm thinking ill be getting the DNA and one other new gen phone probably a GSM phone since I have two contracts, one with ATT and one with Verizon.
But I will be more careful than usual with this purchase. I'm currently so broke I can't afford the down payment on a grilled cheese sandwich. But this phone is a priority, and I owe it to the BAMF community. So I've been saving my pennies and will be selling some stuff to raise some funds.

samsungs radios and signal are 10x worse.
in my house, my gs3 gets about 6kbps download on 3g.
my rezound, when its not pulling 4g in my house (which the nexus and GS3 CAN'T), pulls atleast half a meg to a meg per second. doing anything on the gs3 on 3g is terrible, and ridiculously slow. fb app won't even load. rezound loads it no problem. hell, i even tethered 3 tablets to my rezound last night and while we were all browsing at the same time, ti was STILl faster than my gs3
i don't think i'd buy antoher samsung phone ever again, and i really want the DNA...dunno if i wanna fork out 600 bones for it tohugh

Could the HTC M7 be the next Evo??

Rumor has it that it might come to Sprint, and if it does, it might get the Evo name
HTC M7

Looks like it won't be an EVO but it will come to Sprint and it will be called HTC One. HTC released news of it today.
http://www.htc.com/us/smartphones/htc-one/
Yep. Supposed to be on all carriers and will be htc's first all carrier launch. This will most likely be my next phone.

Guessing No, it'll be similar yes but expect more minor boosts (ie. Kickstand, SD Card Slot, battery etc.) The Next EVO should be on track to pick up the 3D owners who actually waited 22 months.

I was looking forward to a 5 inch screen for the next HTC flagship to Sprint, but I'll settle for 4.7 with 1080p display at 468ppi. And the rest of the specs, I'll take it.
Not much to be hyped about compared to the DNA....camera...and screen are really all that's a upgrade to it... Show me next gen Qualcomm SoC in a Sprint device and then ill get excited!
Really worried they will toss APQ chip in with MSM/MDM for radios which will be old by time of an EVO launch....

Oh and that article stunk btw.... Guy is lost all over the place. If they throw those specs it'll get stomped by the S4 imho as that should be using sammys new chip by then I bet....
The guy flat out says 32Gb is enough for any phone.... Fool
I still don't see VZ jumping on board this soon after the DNA release either...
Dunno my biggest thing is to NOT see the APQ SoC in a device as that's been done and there won't be any firsts there.... Regardless I don't see sprint disbanding the EVO brand for this still...they need their device to set apart...but who knows...

Other thing sprint has done releases at CTIA after HTC did their shindig at MWC....FWIW....
Ugh I'm gonna be alone but if this is it, then ill need a lot that's not mentioned to come up and surprise me to get me to make a plunge on that device...
Won't see 800mhz lte support that early either...though that might not come till later in yr anyway.

If I hadn't already gotten the EVO in August I'd be all over that phone. My wife's upgrade is in Jan, she's likely getting the EVO as I doubt I can convince her to wait longer for this phone. Specs are beast. I guess I may be one of the few that thinks that phone is going to be awesome, I don't see why there isn't more hype....

If I can expect to get an update to an Android 4.2 / Sense 5 update for my phone, I'll keep it for an additional year and get something after that. HTC still has a lot of work to do, but I would really like to see continued upgrades for our handset.

I hear ya, but this will be on Sprint .. the DNA isn't, also this will have a bigger battery and with the smaller screen it'll smoke the DNA's battery life. So, better battery, screen, and camera? That's nice. Big improvement over the EVO that's for sure, and I bet there's other improvements over the DNA that will come out.

My wife keeps wanting me to buy a new phone for her, but she doesn't like the ones with the big screens. She'll only do HTC, and we have to stay with Sprint. So, she may have to deal with it.
If the next nexus phone comes to sprint then that will probably be my next and first choice. The fact that you can't take the battery out the evo 4g lte really really turns me away. I plan to give my evo 4g lte to my dad but something tells me I'm going to have to do some replacing of the battery because of how fast these batteries lose their charge after a while. That's gonna be a pain despite the how to videos. My second choice will be the S4 unless HTC gets there stuff together. Don't get me wrong, I like sprints variant of the one X but samsung is making their devices way more attractive lately. Always been a HTC fan but they haven't been coming through lately. Here's to hoping they listen to us.

You know sense 5 will happen on this device. Thinking this phone is gonna make the long haul. Sprint and HTC really needs to focus on a 1.5 year update policy for every device. Or maybe make it a two system update. Get 4.1-4.2, then 4.3 or next update. Or sense 4 and sense 5. Now that we arent upgrading our phones as often as we were 3 years ago, its either gonna be update to future proof the consumer investment or people will be jumping ship.

HTC says ONE only flagship device for 2013....EVO???

I think it was Android Central where an HTC executive said the HTC ONE will be their only flagship device this year and it won't be modified for carriers..... So where does the leave the EVO line?? Carriers always leave their best phones for a summer release and the ONE comes out next month.....No way Sprint won't have a flagship device releasing in May/June!!!!
The article is on Phandroid!!
Maybe sprint will release the Htc One in late spring like the EVO 4g Lte was? We don't even have a official release date from sprint yet
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
Its confirmed that it's definitely a March release....we just don't know what day!!!!! It would be horrible if that's their summer release because I know I'm willing to wait for a device with the s800 and I'm sure most geeks feel the same way and HTC isn't Apple....geeks are HTC's bread and butter!!!!
Maybe we'll get an evo with that sweet sweet Snapdragon 800 chipset in the summer.

You could be right, however I think there is another situation about to happen. As far as marketing and hyping up a phone, HTC will only be making noise about the One. So you won't see any big shows, commercials, or anything else from HTC unless its about the One. That is HTC baby for 2013.
But....that doesn't mean that Spint won't contract HTC to design an EVO with lets says a snapdragon 800, and some other goodies. But the marketing, and hype will all have to come from sprint. And for that reason, I am not sure how that will go over. But I do think sprint will contine the EVO, but expect no noise from HTC about it.
Htc is crap. I wish i got a S3.... or At least they get rid of Rosie. That is all. lol.

Nah, I doubt sprint would even consider that. LG doesn't have that kind of backing ot credibility to pull off an EVO. No history of updates, pro/con development, or releasing of source. Not sure many would opt to grab that over the One. I know I wouldn't.

That looks really nice to me! I've never owned an LG phone, but they have definitely been improving their Android game lately! While my next phone will definitely have at least a 5"display, I'm not so sure I want a 5.5" display as the Note 2 actually felt a little larger than I was expecting (and I had expected that I'd love that size display). Only complaint with the Optimus G Pro is that the display is only IPS, instead of IPS Plus/Super IPS. Both of my current tablets have an IPS Plus display, being the Asus Prime (TF201) and the Asus Infinity (TF700T). That article even mentions that the display is not as bright as they would have liked, and IPS Plus does exactly that - increases display brightness. I guess we'll see what all Sprint has planned for this spring/summer, as that will be 1 year for me with the Evo LTE and that's about how often I've been purchasing a new phone for the last 6 years. So far though, the Optimus G Pro is in the front of the pack. I'm hoping HTC releases a phone with a 5"+ display soon very soon, as they have officially said that they will be producing phones with 5"+ displays this year.
Sent from my White Evo LTE running MeanBean, using XDA Premium
The One is HTC's only flagship phone, not Sprint's. I'm sure they're working with Sprint on a phone that'll be released in the summer to continue the EVO name. Remember, HTC had a couple different "flagship" phones last year with the One line. Now, they're sticking with just one phone (no pun intended). Now, I have been wrong before, but this is just my speculation. I'd buy the One if an EVO isn't in the cards.
If the One will be HTC's only flagship then the EVO is dead, unless they release one and it's a mid-tier device. If that was the case, why would you buy it?
Face it guys, it's over for the EVO.
As for Sprint, the only rumored device I see potentially topping the One is the Moto X. This is purely speculation seeing as there are no released specs, but I believe it won't be exclusive to any one carrier and Google wants to offer a non-Nexus device to beat Samsung's flagship. Too bad we probably won't get any details until May because I really want the One next month. It would suck waiting until May just to hear its not as superior as rumored, or that it won't go to Sprint anyway.
Yea, the EVO line is dead. I enjoyed it, but it's time to go. This will make advertising, accessories and everything else much easier.
I know people like the body design of the 4g LTE, but I for one think the one X on at&t was a much much better looking phone. The HTC ONE looks even better than that. I'll miss the kickstand, but I'm tired of explaining to people what an evo is and why it's actually still part of HTCs flagship line. It makes zero sense to keep making carrier specific models.

I for one am glad that the EVO line might be dead. The reason I am saying that is because this "should" make for quicker updates. One phone two base updates (CDMA/GSM). HTC can pour all their recourses into keeping these 2 versions updated. I know that carriers will add there bloat but keeping the base updates basically uniform should speed up the process. Just my 2 cents.
