So i dropped my prime from 5 feet (My hand) to the ground and it landed face down. I was pretty shocked that it survived without a scratch
I think it fixed some of the light bleed too...
5 ft from your hand to the ground? Dayum you are one tall person! I dont think I will try that fix for light bleed.

Unless you are using your nose to point and swipe on the glass, 5ft? even at you being 6'1"
i was getting lunch and trying to switch hands.
I think i would have rather dropped my lunch though.
Apparently that drop didn't hurt as much as the last update lawl

I've done that SO many times. Fumbled with two things, one of them an expensive gadget and the other something easily replaced, and I'll be damned if every time I don't manage to drop the gadget.

Can we document the Light Bleed fix?
Seriously this reminds me of the old (really dating myself here) MFM and RLL Hard Drives. About the size of a Belgium Block Brick, and nearly as heavy. We would get ones in that the platters waarped and were unreadable. The fix? Drop them straight down, onto a carpeted cement floor. It would make a huge "WONK" sound, and at least half the time, the platters would now be aligned enough to back the sucker up. All 5 or 10 MEGABYTE of it. Imagine, you could fit an ENTIRE MP3 song on those suckers (if the Bitrate was kept low.)
Thanks for the fond memories. And super good luck the Prime survived it. There was a guy who posted in the first week these were shipping at the end of December who said his Prime fell off a stack of towels 2 feet onto a carpeted floor, and his screen went dark. It was running, just no display. That should help indicate further how lucky this. Turned out for you.
Not one scratch on the Gorrila Glass? Have you inspected it closely? That part is truly amazing.

Reminds me of how the old commodores (I think?) Came with instructions to drop it to get the RAM chip back into place because it would pop loose during shipping.

Hey guys,a question about the SGS2 popped into my head earlier that I had forgotten to care about.
How durable is the GS2?I mean without silicon cases etc.It depends on the quality of the plastic used.
I know that the screen is pretty durable for sure(isn't it Gorilla Glass?),but what about the rest of the phone. From what I've heard, the original Galaxy S was pretty durable(heard stories of phones flying out of cars' windows etc),and my current Desire HD is really durable("really" is there because I have personal experience from the phone, not because it's more durable than the GS or something).
I intend to take care of my phone(Who doesn't take care of a 600 euro phone? ),but you cannot never be too sure!
Any feedback WITHOUT FLAMING OR HATING INCLUDED (taking precautions here as some people tend to defend the awesomeness of Sammy's phones with far too much zeal) is welcome.
Still eagerly waiting for the phone to arrive!
A lot of people think plastic automatically equates to bad build quality. Well, the Galaxy S II is proof that isn't the case -- it doesn't creek and there are numerous reports of people dropping theirs with no marks.
To sum up - does it feel as tough in the hand as my old HTC Leo? No. But does that mean it isn't? Not necessarily. I have had mine for a month with no build quality issues and long may it continue.
Durable = lasting in spite of hard wear or frequent use
So time alone will tell one month most definitely will not .
jje
Well,I am happy to see you two guys here(You ermmm...answered in a not so wanted manner in my other thread, remember?).Perhaps we started wrong, but never is too late now,is it?
I never said that plastic means build quality is bad. It's just more likely to mean so than aluminium is,because there are various qualities of plastic and no one can guarantee(is it spelled like that?I'm studying atm so my English is a bit out of the ordinary, too many mistakes, sorry) that a manufacturer uses high quality plastic.
However it doesn't need to scream quality. My father has a Panasonic DSLR which is mainly(if not completely) mad of plastic. It has fallen on soil, water, rocks(in a cave-holy sh*t that man! ) and other surfaces numerous time and there is only a tiny(Like the tip of a nail) piece broken from the lens' cover.Nothing serious considering it's been going through that stuff for about four years now!
What I wanna say is that the GS2 might prove far better than most of us believe.
Did you guys own a GS1?What are your experiences from it?I mean apart from the usual problems with the device, like gps.
Again, thanks for your replies guys!I hope we will be cooperating and understanding each other better in the future!
(I hope I don't sound like a politician,but we have to be polite,don't we? )

Don't say one month won't tell anything.Give a phone to my sister. If it survives the month,it's most likely extremely lucky or extremely well made!
Like the original sgs id say its a lot more durable than it feels- Ive droped mine already, but didnt get a scratch
Yes i droped mine within 10mins of opening the box lol it bounced but no marks chips cracks scratches nothing. On the other hand i droped my desire hd when i had it and that gained a dent in the top both droped in my living room so they both took the same tumble and hit the same floor.

Hard to say, wait some weeks for more stories to develop
I'd say since there aren't many (any?) people screaming "ONOES IT BROKE ALREADY", it's probably made pretty well.
If it had truly bad build quality there would surely be some people complaining about it by now!
Once I got mine, I thought it felt like a toy and got a case for it immediately, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't be able to survive a drop. It just means my financial paranoia got the better of me

Hopefully I'm getting mine tomorrow but If you look at the situation in which you'll drop the GSII logically.
(Correct me if I'm wrong, btw )
If you drop it, it's lighter, meaning it has less momentum on it, meaning that there's less force acting on the phone when it goes "smashing" into the ground and is there's less force, it's more likely to survive.
OFC not sure how that situation will take place in real life though.

Well,in a similar scenario my DHD kinda damaged the floor more than the floor damaged it.
Well, comparing the two isn't really that much fair.See,the way I see it,the biggest advantage of the plastic used on with the Galaxy series is that the reduced weight of the phones makes the force with which they hit the ground, should they fall, much smaller. And,using common sense, this means less damage.
That is my opinion though!

One more question guys...
How is Samsung with their warranties?Do they honour it as they should? And how do they treat people with rooted devices?
HTC is well known for the fact that they are quite good with their warranties so,coming from a long line of HTCs,I'd like to know about Samsung too.
Thanks!

It feels fragile, but like someone just said the amount we've paid for them does instill some paranoia. I had my first test yesterday. In a Case-Mate Tough Case, the phone fell out of my hand, dropped arrow straight vertically and landed on one top corner. It then flopped on its face. This was on a concrete floor. I know the case saved it, but regardless the shock it took was pretty severe. So it's not frail and I'm now a Case-Mate fan.

Are you buying sim-free? And I haven't heard any rants about warranty, so I'm assuming it's good.
Plastic definitely has it's advantages. When you think of all the shattered iP4's, and the comments above about dented aluminum HTC's it might be a blessing. That and of course weight has me thinking maybe the Sensations hand feel might not be so great when it's out of your hands....and into gravity's
I dropped mine 12 days ago.
Took it out of my pocket whilst hurrying to get to a meeting I was late for, juggled it, managing to launch it to about 5ft in the air before it landed totally flat, face down on concrete with some small stones scattered across it.
That shattered the glass and broke the LCD screen. NO damage or marks anywhere else. It has been in for repair (£90 quoted) with the official Samsung service centre in Luton since Saturday 21st. Samsung are taking their time sending the replacement.
Just a little bit annoying!

Sorry to hear of the unfortunateness. Good to hear your getting another courtesy of brother-in-law.
The EVO line of phones seem to be a fairly robust lot. I left my table at a bar to fetch another drink and return to find my 4G in a pool of spilt vodka/sprite. It didnt turn on a first but once I took it apart (completely) and dried it out, it started it up fine. It also had turned (3) moisture indicators pink.
1. One indicator on the battery
2. Second in the battery bay
3. The third on another board inside the phone
Luckily it didnt have any water on the inside screen.
A friend has a 3D and spilled a Taco Bell sweet tea on it. Sticky stuff. Still works...

Since the device is so new... the chances of him getting a brand new one is very high... $100 deductible may just send him a brand new phone.
Yeah, I'm hoping the $100 gets a brand new one sent to me. I guess I'll have to wait until tomorrow and see. As far as the rice goes, I let it sit in rice for about 24 hours and though the phone is dry, there are still the three different layers of water inside the screen. One layer of water banding, one layer of large droplets, and another layer of banding running the opposite direction. Really strange to look at...
@event- apologies to you, I'm usually a little more grown-up than the name-calling. Was just in a foul mood last night over this. I do run a firefox addon to auto-refresh xda.
There are not 3 layers of water in your phone, just one, it's a 3D phone remember, it's a feature.

Hey all,
So I've had my Note for like 5 days now, and I have nothing to complain about. If there was one thing to complain about it would be that It's hard to pull my phone out of my pocket while driving to answer a call... but I really don't care because I love the phone size whole heartedly. But anyway, last night I went to the bar with my Note. I could feel the people behind me staring at my phone as I used it haha. I was pondering on whether I should have even taken it in before entering, because I'm the person in the bar thats always dancing like I'm in a club, and I was worried about it being in my pocket. Well the bar I went to, which is very popular and gets very crowded, plays loud loud music, so it's almost impossible to not dance.
The note faired well in my pocket with slight dancing, and also sparked a couple conversations with people surprised by me pulling it out to answer my phone. But tonight I will probably be taking it to a club where dancing will be key. Now since I am the type that never leaves without my phone, I will probably be bringing it along, however, I feel that this time it will probably get in my way. Also I doubt it will spark as many conversations at a club, but suspect I will have just as many strangers staring at me as I go to use it.
I couldn't find a single shirt I owned that would fit the note in its pocket haha, and I looked as I figured it would probably be easier to move with the Note stored in my shirt.
Let me know any of y'alls stories about bar or club ventures with the Note. Any suggestions for tonight when I go to the club?

It has definitely changed the social situation around me when I pull out this phone. I have to wonder if the Streak users experienced the same?
I wouldn't say that it is helping me to influence people or make friends, but I can feel the reaction around me when I whip out the S-Pen and go to work
So far, only one iPhone user tried to say something, but after watching me demonstrate the capabilities (Siri? HAH!) and show off the 4G LTE goodness, they shut up and I haven't heard a peep from them since.
A few of my Android friends are looking into getting one, but as far as I can tell I am the only one around this podunk town with one. I don't imagine it will take very long to change that!
I just recently passed the 1 year anniversary mark of purchasing my Streak. Throughout different environments and scenarios, I usually always got some kind of stares from people in public.
In like the club/lounge/bar type of settings, if I was on the dance floor or in some crowded space, and happened to take out the Streak for any reason, oftentimes a stranger would tap me and vaguely talk to me about that.
There were a few times in which I felt a little clumsy with a lot of people crowding around me to take a look.
I even had people ask me why I was carrying only a tablet and not a phone instead. Even with that small ear piece at top, some of them still believed you couldn't make traditional phone calls with it.
Haha a quite good looking female came up to me at the bar last night. She said she was wandering what phone i had and she was "watching" me use it lol. So i showed her a fast S pen demo. I didn't chit chat too long as i was with my gf but she didn't seem to care. This phone is seriously a conversation piece when i whip it out. Putting iphone users to shame daily
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using XDA
Well, it sure is handy when taking a ladies phone number. Just whip out the pen and hand it to her. Impressive.
Of course, the other side of the coin. Go to the club with this baby in a holster and see how fast they run from you. lol
I go to a lot of Raves and nightclubs and it's done fine in a case. I wouldn't dance with it in my pocket though
Every dress shirt I have, the note fits into. It goes in my back pocket when I wear jeans.
If you rather, in the car, use bluetooth. or get a mount so you can see the display. Works for me.
This phone is perfect for me, as I had a 7" SG Tablet.
Yes the Streak gets the same attention. Not just in bars it clubs it anywhere it comes out. Looking into the note as my next phone but not quiet ready yet.

You can mention:

•What damages did it cause.
•How many time had it fallen?
•or anything else you want.
I'll start the thread,Mine has fallen 4 times since i bought it back in december 2011. It fell 3 times in one day and once just a while ago (making the idea pop in my mind about making this thread )

Have had the phone for 3 months, only one drop so far :|. Fell from waist height to a solid rock floor, exactly on the top left corner. No damage to the phone, just a slight bump to the case. Coincidentally exactly the same day I bought the case.
Biggest sigh of relief when I picked it up and saw it was fine.
I dropped mine from a 5th floor balcony. Works fine.

where should I go any reliable place?
dropped it like 10 times.
concrete once, few times on a wooden floor. nothing really happened.
well, but im experiencing ghost touches from time to time, and im not sure if its because of the falls or is it caused by my sweat (i work out a lot)... idk
oh and i don't use any kind of protection (for my phone that is lol) like screen protectors or silicon protectors.

Tl;Dr version:
Bought 6P for wife. Fitted a google folio case. Phone fell off table (like 3 feet) onto a lino floor. Screen and case unmarked, but chassis warped (can see silver stress webs near power button) and is stuck in boot loop.
Can't say I would recommend this phone. Build quality is miserable. Bitterly disappointed in it.

A screen isn't much good when the warped chassis is holding down the power button.
:crying:
This ain't good at all. Sad story, I imagine we will hear more of those. Hopefully Google will accept rma because this will happen to more, and careful, people.

They initially refused - but agreed to escalate it when I mentioned SoGA. Gawd bless our consumer-friendly laws.
IF that fails I'll claim on our insurance, but honestly I want googz to take the hit here. Shipping a flagship which warps when dropped is not acceptable.
Simply lower grade, cheaper Aluminums been used.

I don't know..? Clearly the phone took a fall, and looks like it hit the edge of something in a very unlucky spot. I don't see this as a weak chassis, nor do I see it as Google's fault. I don't understand how Google made you drop your phone? I also don't understand why you think Google should take the hit? That's pure nonsense if you ask me. That's like me hitting a mailbox with my new car, and putting a dent in my fender. Am I supposed to rush to the dealer, and say hey... fix my fender because you guys made it too weak! Oh, and you guys need to take the hit! C'mon man, they would just laugh in my face!
I'm sorry that your phone got messed up, I really am. I do think its 100% your fault though. I also think that we can very well see that same kind of damage on just about every phone in today's market given the same circumstance. If Google takes the hit, lucky for you, but if they don't, they'll be doing the right thing IMHO.
Good luck.
Should of had a case. I would agree with WilliamStern. Aluminum is not a strong metal and especially since its on a phone, its going to be thin.

where is the problem here? every device gets a ding or a scuff when dropped from 3 feet.

There's a warp at the power button there if you look closely.
OP is really unlucky but i think that this is really unacceptable as well, i'm not a fan of iphone but have to say i don't think it will happen to my gf's iphone 6s.
Currently waiting for my 6P to ship over so i really hope i don't get a weak phone that will bend/break just from normal usage and unfortunate drops.
To summarise:
1) not a ding. Was dropped on flat surface. No corners or edges present.
2) was in a case. Google supplied folio case.
3) chassis has warped at the point where the power button sits. Stress fractures visible as silver lines in aluminium. Not a cosmetic issue; power button is forced in.

It hit a flat, soft floor from 3 feet up while in a google case, and it warped to the point that the power button is stuck in.
If that sounds like a satisfactory product to you, fair enough. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.
I think the more important thing here is that he dropped his phone and now it is stuck in a bootloop. Did you try Odin or any other service?

The important thing is: a) it's a nexus not a Samsung b) it's a hardware fault

I just watched this drop test video https://m.youtube.com/watch and it kinda looks like you might have got a lemon. I too dropped mine from approx 3ft on to a similar surface, mine was in an adopted case and the phone was just fine. Those kind of hard shell cases don't offer much shock protection.

I guess I'm surprised that you're getting grief from people about being disappointed in the inability of the N6P to take a shot. Of course we should do our best to avoid drops, dings, smashes, etc. But they are a fact of life and a good design is capable of taking "some" abuse. LG even has a commercial running right now showing one of their naked phones being dropped off a table with no damage. I am so careful with my phones that I am ALWAYS able to sell my old devices on eBay and get top dollar because they are in mint condition. In fact, I just got $100 for my old Nexus 4. But that doesn't mean I haven't had accidents. My Nexus 5 took a fall onto a tile floor, hit on the side and skidded across the floor - not a mark on it and 100% functional (yes, it was in a standard case and not some bubble wrap behemoth). I also would expect a new "flagship" to do the same.

Yeah I saw it and it looks like that's the point of impact with the floor or no?
That's why plastic is fantastic! Plastic can take a lot of abuse. I'm still struggling in making a decision which one to get 5X or 6P, battery life is important to me and i'd like an AMOLED over LCD but can compromise. But so far, if you have a look at 5X forum - they have no quality issues, in comparison with this forum where every second thread is something wrong with the build quality. Battery life also seems to be quite similar, especially after disabling encryption on 5X, although 6P would always have 30min - 1hour more SOT than 5X... Do i wait till xmas and see of 6P issues will be resolved or get a 5X as i've been rocking Nexus 5 with a smashed screen for the last 6 months waiting for new Nexuses to come out...
I am almost grateful for the delay on my graphite if this has been part of the production issue....

I highly doubt it's a production issue. More likely it's because cheaper aluminium is being used and that part is the thinnest part of the side on the phone. Huawei /Google aren't going to suddenly use a higher spec Alu, we'll just have to live with it.

I am guessing Google knew, hence the Nexus Protect option that suddenly materialized for this Nexus launch. I have been told that there are "production issues" (not sure if this is actually why..) when calling and inquiring about my missed ship/delivery dates for my PREORDER.
