[Random] Did your s2 ever fall? If yes, share the experience :D - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Well,it's a random thread as the title says, all you have to do is comment IF you accidentally slipped your s2 and made it fall on the ground.
You can mention:
•How did it feel?
•What damages did it cause.
•How many time had it fallen?
•or anything else you want.
I'll start the thread,Mine has fallen 4 times since i bought it back in december 2011. It fell 3 times in one day and once just a while ago (making the idea pop in my mind about making this thread )
Thank God it has not been injured yet and i hope it stays that way
So share your experiences and press the thanks button if you enjoy the thread! cheer!

This is the most pointless thread I have ever seen. It isn't even a proper question. Take this to the general section.

•How did it feel?
Like a needle getting slowly into my heart.
•What damages did it cause.
Nothing Silicone protector Ftw.
•How many time had it fallen?
Since I bought it? like 6 or 7 times.. when I'm too tired I just throw it at my bed expecting it not to fall but it always does because it bounces alot XD
•or anything else you want.
It fell off once while I was running on the treadmill, THAT hurtd.

4 times
Once on a stony road, the back was popped out, I was freaked out but it was okay
The rest 3 times were on my house's floor, all about 1 meter, all is ok, i dont think iphone could siffer that.much, im satisfied

Have had the phone for 3 months, only one drop so far :|. Fell from waist height to a solid rock floor, exactly on the top left corner. No damage to the phone, just a slight bump to the case. Coincidentally exactly the same day I bought the case.
Biggest sigh of relief when I picked it up and saw it was fine.

I dropped mine from a 5th floor balcony. Works fine.

dropped it like 10 times.
concrete once, few times on a wooden floor. nothing really happened.
well, but im experiencing ghost touches from time to time, and im not sure if its because of the falls or is it caused by my sweat (i work out a lot)... idk
oh and i don't use any kind of protection (for my phone that is lol) like screen protectors or silicon protectors.

[Q] How durable is the GS2?

Hey guys,a question about the SGS2 popped into my head earlier that I had forgotten to care about.
How durable is the GS2?I mean without silicon cases etc.It depends on the quality of the plastic used.
I know that the screen is pretty durable for sure(isn't it Gorilla Glass?),but what about the rest of the phone. From what I've heard, the original Galaxy S was pretty durable(heard stories of phones flying out of cars' windows etc),and my current Desire HD is really durable("really" is there because I have personal experience from the phone, not because it's more durable than the GS or something).
I intend to take care of my phone(Who doesn't take care of a 600 euro phone? ),but you cannot never be too sure!
Any feedback WITHOUT FLAMING OR HATING INCLUDED (taking precautions here as some people tend to defend the awesomeness of Sammy's phones with far too much zeal) is welcome.
Still eagerly waiting for the phone to arrive!
A lot of people think plastic automatically equates to bad build quality. Well, the Galaxy S II is proof that isn't the case -- it doesn't creek and there are numerous reports of people dropping theirs with no marks.
To sum up - does it feel as tough in the hand as my old HTC Leo? No. But does that mean it isn't? Not necessarily. I have had mine for a month with no build quality issues and long may it continue.
Durable = lasting in spite of hard wear or frequent use
So time alone will tell one month most definitely will not .
jje
Well,I am happy to see you two guys here(You ermmm...answered in a not so wanted manner in my other thread, remember?).Perhaps we started wrong, but never is too late now,is it?
I never said that plastic means build quality is bad. It's just more likely to mean so than aluminium is,because there are various qualities of plastic and no one can guarantee(is it spelled like that?I'm studying atm so my English is a bit out of the ordinary, too many mistakes, sorry) that a manufacturer uses high quality plastic.
However it doesn't need to scream quality. My father has a Panasonic DSLR which is mainly(if not completely) mad of plastic. It has fallen on soil, water, rocks(in a cave-holy sh*t that man! ) and other surfaces numerous time and there is only a tiny(Like the tip of a nail) piece broken from the lens' cover.Nothing serious considering it's been going through that stuff for about four years now!
What I wanna say is that the GS2 might prove far better than most of us believe.
Did you guys own a GS1?What are your experiences from it?I mean apart from the usual problems with the device, like gps.
Again, thanks for your replies guys!I hope we will be cooperating and understanding each other better in the future!
(I hope I don't sound like a politician,but we have to be polite,don't we? )

Don't say one month won't tell anything.Give a phone to my sister. If it survives the month,it's most likely extremely lucky or extremely well made!
Like the original sgs id say its a lot more durable than it feels- Ive droped mine already, but didnt get a scratch
Yes i droped mine within 10mins of opening the box lol it bounced but no marks chips cracks scratches nothing. On the other hand i droped my desire hd when i had it and that gained a dent in the top both droped in my living room so they both took the same tumble and hit the same floor.

Hard to say, wait some weeks for more stories to develop
I'd say since there aren't many (any?) people screaming "ONOES IT BROKE ALREADY", it's probably made pretty well.
If it had truly bad build quality there would surely be some people complaining about it by now!
Once I got mine, I thought it felt like a toy and got a case for it immediately, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't be able to survive a drop. It just means my financial paranoia got the better of me

Joking aside you are right. We haven't even heard of someone bricking their device! How strange is that?Do idiots not buy the SGS2?Or is the software THAT easy to recover from anything?

Hopefully I'm getting mine tomorrow but If you look at the situation in which you'll drop the GSII logically.
(Correct me if I'm wrong, btw )
If you drop it, it's lighter, meaning it has less momentum on it, meaning that there's less force acting on the phone when it goes "smashing" into the ground and is there's less force, it's more likely to survive.
OFC not sure how that situation will take place in real life though.

Well,in a similar scenario my DHD kinda damaged the floor more than the floor damaged it.
Well, comparing the two isn't really that much fair.See,the way I see it,the biggest advantage of the plastic used on with the Galaxy series is that the reduced weight of the phones makes the force with which they hit the ground, should they fall, much smaller. And,using common sense, this means less damage.
That is my opinion though!

One more question guys...
How is Samsung with their warranties?Do they honour it as they should? And how do they treat people with rooted devices?
HTC is well known for the fact that they are quite good with their warranties so,coming from a long line of HTCs,I'd like to know about Samsung too.
Thanks!

It feels fragile, but like someone just said the amount we've paid for them does instill some paranoia. I had my first test yesterday. In a Case-Mate Tough Case, the phone fell out of my hand, dropped arrow straight vertically and landed on one top corner. It then flopped on its face. This was on a concrete floor. I know the case saved it, but regardless the shock it took was pretty severe. So it's not frail and I'm now a Case-Mate fan.

Are you buying sim-free? And I haven't heard any rants about warranty, so I'm assuming it's good.
Plastic definitely has it's advantages. When you think of all the shattered iP4's, and the comments above about dented aluminum HTC's it might be a blessing. That and of course weight has me thinking maybe the Sensations hand feel might not be so great when it's out of your hands....and into gravity's
I dropped mine 12 days ago.
Took it out of my pocket whilst hurrying to get to a meeting I was late for, juggled it, managing to launch it to about 5ft in the air before it landed totally flat, face down on concrete with some small stones scattered across it.
That shattered the glass and broke the LCD screen. NO damage or marks anywhere else. It has been in for repair (£90 quoted) with the official Samsung service centre in Luton since Saturday 21st. Samsung are taking their time sending the replacement.
Just a little bit annoying!

Aha...Then Gorilla Glass isn't made to endure severe abuse!
Although I think 90 pounds for the screen is a little too much...

Went swimming last night...

Lemme tell ya about yesterday at the river standing on the dock drinking a beer and watching fireworks. My brother-in-law thought it would be SO funny if I took a little night dip in the marina and gave my slightly intoxicated self a nudge in that direction...yup. I actually thought it was hilarious when I climbed out and was laughing while popping another Bud. But wait, yep, my phone is making some strange noise in my pocket...sounds a bit like its choking! Fished it out, it flickered, then died. Than I punched him in the mouth. No REALLY. Spent today babying it and drying it out and it works except that there is river water in what looks like 3 different layers of the screen. Anyway, he's paying the deductible and my new one is on the way. Ugh, it's killed me to even look at it all day. My girlfriends been very happy and I haven't hit F5 even once in the root threads so I guess thats a plus. Just wanted to share my misery with some like-minded peeps, seems like everyone I know just doesn't understand...

Lost cause, you're talking about a dude that refreshes by hitting F5.
Sorry to hear of the unfortunateness. Good to hear your getting another courtesy of brother-in-law.
The EVO line of phones seem to be a fairly robust lot. I left my table at a bar to fetch another drink and return to find my 4G in a pool of spilt vodka/sprite. It didnt turn on a first but once I took it apart (completely) and dried it out, it started it up fine. It also had turned (3) moisture indicators pink.
1. One indicator on the battery
2. Second in the battery bay
3. The third on another board inside the phone
Luckily it didnt have any water on the inside screen.
A friend has a 3D and spilled a Taco Bell sweet tea on it. Sticky stuff. Still works...

I ended up disconnecting a wire on mt3g on the inside so it would short out and didnt boot and finally got an exchange. for my n1 it fell off from 8 feet just a dent, fell off 3 floors onto trampoline nothing, fell off 1 floor another dent, fell of 2 floors on its edge broken screen ( no broken glass just screen ) its survived too much torchure. Since the device is so new... the chances of him getting a brand new one is very high... $100 deductible may just send him a brand new phone.
Yeah, I'm hoping the $100 gets a brand new one sent to me. I guess I'll have to wait until tomorrow and see. As far as the rice goes, I let it sit in rice for about 24 hours and though the phone is dry, there are still the three different layers of water inside the screen. One layer of water banding, one layer of large droplets, and another layer of banding running the opposite direction. Really strange to look at...
@event- apologies to you, I'm usually a little more grown-up than the name-calling. Was just in a foul mood last night over this. I do run a firefox addon to auto-refresh xda.
There are not 3 layers of water in your phone, just one, it's a 3D phone remember, it's a feature.
Anyway sorry to hear about killing one already, glad you are getting another.

Dropped your O1, Having problems or is it fine?

And finally it happened, I accidently dropped my o1 on the carpet floor, and now I have these bands of lines about 20px wide one at edge and the other in the middle. The colors seem a bit lighter in those areas. Nothing unbearable but hell I thought the O1 was pretty durable. Guess I have to live with it now..

dropped mine about 10 times until now only on asphalt and 'them bathroom floor-like tiles'...only scratches and battery keeps popping out every time. but no problems until now(although the power key works kinda funny)
Have dropped it once, it was on the table with bag, damn bag's strap taked phone with it ... but nothing happened, not even a scratch. Mine looks like new, I just are good owner.

Then, I dropped it getting out of my truck and now I have a little touchscreen deadzone at the bottom right of my screen so no touch works there. But, it's really spotty so it still works but swype is a pain in the ass.
But whatever, besides that it's quite a beast

Can we document the Light Bleed fix?
Seriously this reminds me of the old (really dating myself here) MFM and RLL Hard Drives. About the size of a Belgium Block Brick, and nearly as heavy. We would get ones in that the platters waarped and were unreadable. The fix? Drop them straight down, onto a carpeted cement floor. It would make a huge "WONK" sound, and at least half the time, the platters would now be aligned enough to back the sucker up. All 5 or 10 MEGABYTE of it. Imagine, you could fit an ENTIRE MP3 song on those suckers (if the Bitrate was kept low.)
Thanks for the fond memories. And super good luck the Prime survived it. There was a guy who posted in the first week these were shipping at the end of December who said his Prime fell off a stack of towels 2 feet onto a carpeted floor, and his screen went dark. It was running, just no display. That should help indicate further how lucky this. Turned out for you.
Not one scratch on the Gorrila Glass? Have you inspected it closely? That part is truly amazing.

Ohh nooo...itll prolly be pristine man mayb a lil scratch on the bezel....:/
^ Yeah, true. Never understood when my friends were entering a Wall of Death with phones and cameras... Lol. Lamb of God pits have no care for technology.

Well its back in my possession.... it appears to held up pretty well. there is a major dent in the side and about 2-3 little scraches on the screen and one bigger scratch. Very usable. I thought for sure it would have been smashed into bits.
And i am thankful for whoever turned it in
*EDIT*
I can post pics if people want but its really not that exciting. Had it been smashed into dust then maybe
Thats crazy your so lucky to get that back in one peice!!

Someone knew what they were doing. It's good you changed your passwords. Losing my phone would be my worst nightmare. I normally do not use lockscreen security, but I will probably change that.

I always say that, then it lasts half a day and I ditch the lockscreen again...

Yeah me too. It will be nice when phones use built-in biometric security, and no more PINs or patterns. I check my phone no less than 50 times a day, and doing a PIN/pattern each time gets tedious.

Even since I got my phone stolen and people started posting some really nasty stuff all over Facebook and twitter i now use a lock screen. It might be tedious but it's worth it for a little bit of protection to ward off most people. In the end if someone wants to get in your phone they are going to but having a slight deterrent is nice.
I agree, pictures anyway!!
Dude...I am sooo happy for you man.
I used to use a pattern lock buy stoped because its a pain. And really if they know anything about android they'll just boot into recovery and do a factory reset.

True, but if you have sensitive data in an open email or notepad app, you could be screwed.

Yea this phone is pretty tough. I left mine in the lightbar of my patrol car and drove off the other day. Realized a half mile down the road and was like oh ****. Made the block and couldn't find it. Searched for like 30 minutes and chalked it up to a loss. Next day I drove the block three time at 5mph and found the phone up against the curb. UAG case was off, battery cover off, battery out and screen down. Was like Yes! But I bet the screen is busted (mainly just wanted pics off it) turned it over and not a scratch on the screen. Looked like it had tire print on it though. 2 minor dings along the side bezel was all the damage the phone took. Case had big black tire marks and was scratched to hell though.
Pen popped out and never did find it was the only bad thing.
It's a tough phone for sure.
I would call that some serious luck bro... as my Luck Stands.. I had to get my vision checked and I went to Target.. I set my previous phone (Thunderbolt) on the table and forgot I had done so and went in and had my vision looked at.. came out and it was gone.. :-\ good thing it was only a TBolt and not my Note or I would have raged on that store. LOL
Lucky lucky.
