I just rooted my Nook Tablet, and eberything went well. I forgot to delete the "acclaim_-rupdate.zip" file form the SD card, and when I just turned it on, it reinstalled 1.40 on the device, or it went through the motions like it was doing so. I did not stop it because I figured that would not be good thing!!;p). It booted back up, and all at first looked the same, but the Android Market no longer works, the N button is back to its default setting, and some other apps do not work. I tried rerooting it by running the "Nook and Zergy" utility, but I just got errors. How can I fix this?
do you happen to have the Unrooting app installed?
If you don't google it and find the xda unrooting thread with the app.
See if it will allow you to download and install it.
if your able to install it( or already have it) run it. it should set your nook completely back to out-of-the-box stock.

Thanks! Sounded good at least! Just installed it, but I get some sort of error when I try to run it.
also
also if you are able to boot from cwm, you can try installing alberwertz gapps_and_root.zip file
i screwed up my root when the alpha cm7 came out and was able to install his root zip to regain access to the root apps.
i then ran the unroot app and after rerooted using his zip and all has been well since..
Not sure if this will help, but this is the error I get: Could not echojava IO Exception Error running exec Command SU working directory: Null Environment. Should I just do the 8 restarts and put it back to factory that way?

before do that, do you have cwm installed internal?
I was able to get this fixed surprisingly easy. I just reset the Nook back to factory by holding down the power and N button at startup. Evidently the tablet was no longer rooted after it ran the 1.40 restore even though the interface did not look any different. I then just did the root all over again! Thanks for the help!

Hello All
So I got a Nook Tablet. Nice device. I followed the root techniques plus block the OTA. Everything was fine. Started installing apps, loving it, live wallpapers, custom UI, etc etc.
After a few days my B&N shop quit working. Not the end of the world but I wanted it to. At the end of the day I Erased/De-Registered my device.
After the restore I began going through the root process again. Replaced USB drivers, went to Nook & Zergy, it found my device, I started the root and it said I was already rooted, but unfortunately it can not now replace the UI and install all the apps.
I do see the NookZergy zip is loaded with all the APK's. Can those be manually installed now? I need a little NOOB Help. And yes I searched the forums.
Thanks for the help!
The "Erase/Deregister Device" does not actually do a factory reinstall, it just deletes your specific data, and starts from there.
The easiest, but not quickest way to get around this would be to use the 8-failed-bootup recovery. Otherwise, you need to install the One Tap Unroot that is out there. Both of these will trigger a factory reset, and allow you to newly root your Nook Tablet.
Thanks cfoesch
I'm trying the one tap unroot now and must be doing it wrong. I open the APK and do package install. It installs so I open it, it gives me a button to push that shows 'echo worked'
After I reboot I get the following error:
Sorry!
The application Nook Unroot (process com.indirect.nook.unroot) has stopped working unexpectedly. Please try again.
Any ideas?
Did the 8-boot failure method.
Yeah, the one touch unroot will only work if you already have root. Otherwise, it will just stall out.
I've noticed that as well that the Nookunroot.apk will crash if it is installed but not used. Not particularly sure what that's about.

I was able to successfully root my nook tablet. Though wished to try a different root program. I tried to uninstall the root normally but found my internet browser was disabled on my nook tablet. As well as my library setting I performed the factory reset to try to fix the problem but I am unable to completely restore my nook tablet. I am unable to download the unrooting program over the internet because the browser and search is disabled.
Is there any way that I may be able to fix my nook with an SD card?
I would also like to know if I can enable usb-debugging other than using the browser on my nook since the browser has been disabled.
Make a wipe erase/deregister your device and use the magic card method by AdamOutler to restore stock, that will put your NT like out-of-the-box.

Do you know if there is any packetuninstaller program for the sd card that I can use to unroot my nook tablet?
I would like to reinstall the market once I fix my browser and library issue not having access to either on my tablet kinda sucks http://media.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/frown.gif
erase/deregister does not remove the android market or the ota block. After resetting device I still have do not have it as an out-of-the-box nook tablet. The browser is still non functional and the library will not work. The only way I can access the internet browser is by clicking on forgot password via the netflix app.
Any other methods do unroot and fully reset device???
Use the convert to 1.4.0 SD option. There is plenty on the boards, you just have to search for the answer. Check out the Noob thread too.
I have now parsed root file used on my nook tablet to allow full access of google launcher and apps. I have rooted access to browser now. Sd card options have not succeded in doing anything but reboot device to 1.4.0 which it is currently on. With removal of root or functionality of the library, shop, or normal search. I would like to regain the functionality of these functions or fully restore my device. I have read through the forums an have not yet reached a solution.
I was wondering if its possible to achieve stock functionality? I am new to the nook tablet. Though I have rooted and unrooted other devices without problems just trying to find a simple restore method that works. All help is greatly appreciated
Sounds like your NT internal files may be corrupt. It's the reason why I'm recommending you root via SD versus internal memory back to 1.4.0. Then run Indirect's unroot app and then try to reinstall Indirect's image. I had to do so because my NT wouldn't charge while on...computers (no matter the size of them or maker) can act quirky and it sometimes takes a couple of reinstalls to get it working the way it should be....nature of the beast.

Heres how I restore my NookTablet to the way it was when I got it (no root/mods)
1. Erase and Deregister
2. Turn off Nook once the erasing is complete
3. Copy acclaim_update.zip to the root of a microsd
4. Turn the nook on, which will start the downgrade/Factory Reset
5. Done, now the Nook is 100% root free.
This method removes all root traces/apps. Then I re-root (which will not work if the NT is already rooted). I'm new to Android in general but I have been an iOS user for 4 years. This is the same as doing a DFU restore.
Ok Let me list what I have tried.. After failed root.
1. Erased/Deregistered device
After boot-up no browser no library no shop
All functions are blocked OS after Erase 1.4.0
2. Erase/Deregister then installed acclaim_update.zip to the root of an sd card
This did nothing....
device is still on 1.4.0 with no browser or normal settings.
3. Reset via Power home button reset worked.
Device rebooted but still all settings the same I believe somehow
OTA block has not been removed. As should have been.
There is still block on factory browser search and library functions.
4. Tried to re-root and sideload super user app unable to fully install root.
Error root is not installed on device software version is still 1.4.0
5. Erase/Deregister again! Let boot normally Searched again through Xda Website for more information on this matter still unable to revert to factory.
I wonder if there is a way to force to 1.4.1. to fully break root functions and revert back to factory and reinstall new root file. I would like to get back unblocked functions of nook library and browser.
Also as a side note the nook seems to be perma downgraded. By some sort of block even after erase/deregister I need to remove whatever is blocking this so I can revert to stock and reinstall the new root.

I'm a noob but I'm pretty sure
Erase/Deregister = clears the /app folder for market and nook store apps and any user files (not system)
Acclaim.zip= completely clears the device. Including the /System/app folder (where the browser resides). And when that's done it recopies the original apps. Which is why if you debloat the NT, a acclaim update/restore restores the files. I can confirm this worked for me since I debloated once and this restored the deleted apps
So unless you didn't do all the steps you must have messed up a critical file that controls the restore process. But I don't think that's possible with current rooting tools.
NOOK TABLET? Unrooted?
I sucessfully backdated my nook tablet to software version, 1.4 and rooted device- however after putting on software version 1.4, I was unable to register device. I skipped the registration video and rooted no problem... wasn't happy with the rooted nook tablet like I was with my rooted nook color.
I wanted to unroot and restore to factory defaults. I sucessfully unrooted my nook tablet and restored to new software 1.4.1. However, when I go to register device, I recieve the same error message I have been getting this whole time with E-AD1202 in bottom left of screen.
Can someone please help?? Thanks so much!
If you have just unrooted your device I would try to Reset your nook tablet.
Hold the power and home key together when powered off then release once in boot screen repeat process in initial boot screen until reset pops up on your screen and follow instructions to reset your nook.

That is precisely what I did and it worked like a charm...plus the new script will include the OTA killer feature.

I have tried this, still doesn't erase whatever is causing me to not be allowed to register. I have done the 8 time boot, accalim sd file etc.
I always get prompted to the registration screen that will not let me register!

The only reason you can't register would be if you weren't back to stock. Do the factory restore, NOT data reset, again to get back to stock.

I had the exact same problem. Serial number on device software does not match the serial number on the device itself. The software serial number is already registered and B&N isn't allowing more than one email address to register the serial number. Had to get a new one. Sucks.

Ok so here is the deal. I successfully did the zergrush script (did not know about the 1 click root apk). Either way that was successful, I had installed the market, a lot of google apps and gave it back to the person. Then they decided to install the amazon app store and chose app installer instead of package installer. That messed up apk installations for everything it seemed. During the zerg rush script, it gave me the option to make the "n" button a dedicated home key button, and so I had done that. After I did a factory restore, it remained the homekey button, and now I cannot find the browser or anything, I don't know how to bring up the browser what so ever. I can seemingly access everything else in the 1.4.0 install that it gives me. Unfortunately adb is not working, I can't seem to get the <!>Nook Tablet in the device manager anymore, no matter how many times I try to force and remove the default USB Mass Storage it installs.
Basically i seemed to have screwed myself. Using various search results in both the android development thread and this thread didn't seem to yield results for anyone else dealing with this issue. If anyone can lend me a hand or point me in the right direction, or even show me a thread that someone is dealing with this issue also, that would be fantastic. Thanks community!
Also, I used the script that doesn't allow OTA updates, so it seems the sdcard load acclaim_update.zip doesn't work either.
Well... I have successfully been able to force the 1.4.1 update back onto the device, which has given me "n" menu access. Now I will reattempt to revert back to 1.4.0 and root again.
My error was that I was putting the 1.4.1 update onto the sdcard instead of onto the nook partition.
Both of my computers refused to let me change the drivers in the NT.
I was able to get it from 1.4.1 to 1.4.0 and sideload apps. I got cwm into emmc then got ADB launcher working which helped my disposition. I have no use for B&N home, etc.
By determination rather than knowledge; I have it doing what I have been doing on the NC for a year. I also have the reader from B&N (I missed that on the cm7 NC) without having to see the rest of B&N.
What condition should the NT be in before putting cm7 on? How can I tell if the drivers are right for the new cm7? How can I tell if it’s even rooted. This is so embarrassing! I have this thing working so good but I got there in such a convoluted way!
As of right now, the Alpha links to CM7 has been pulled due to an error where it would brick your device when you tried to format an sd card. I'm a noob in the development area, but from what I can gather, as long you have CWM either internally or on an sd card, you would be able to flash CM7 and wouldn't need to update any drivers. The drivers are necessary for adb especially for Indirect's nook and zergy method (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1354487) and if you had issues updating the drivers try (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1415812) or if you are having trouble seeing the device when you ran the nook&zergy root (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1363652) this should help you out. Hope this helps.
If it is rooted, what will the specs say? There should be a way to tell.
Sent from my Nook Tablet
Using Indirect's Nook&Zergy through your computer, your software version would be 9.9.9 because of the OTA block and for me, the wifi Mac Address on my NT says Unavailable.
From what you have said in your previous post, it seems that you only downgraded to 1.4.0 and then sideloaded apps. So just to clarify, do you have any gapps(google apps like market, talk, calendar) on your device? Do you have Superuser? Also if you have rooted your device, if you use es file explorer (free app) and go to settings you can see if you can mount the emmc (internal memory) which require root and super user permission. Or just try using Button Savior app which requires root as well.
That's what I did. I only sideloaded a few apps to see it it worked. But when restarted it only a couple were there. Then the next time I turned it on I saw something load that I didn't recognize, then I was able to download anything I wanted from the market.
It is not rooted but Superuser and Root Explorer works like my rooted NC. I have cmw from Rom Mgr. Button Savior didn't work.

For the symptoms you mention i think you got caught by the 1.4.1 update. Oh well!. If you have CWM then boot into it and flash back to 1.4.0 using one of the 2 ROM's offered in this page, copy it to /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup folder and restore from CWM Backup & restore> restore, select the folder and thats it. What i have mentioned here is in my FAQ too.

i rooted my nook a wile back and recently the B&N store stopped working so i was trying to fix it and removed the account then it did a factory reset (i think) i had to to OBE. so now i tried to install tgps.apk and then nookunrooter.apk but it wouldn't. I get an error that says Parse error: There is a problem parsing the package???
any ideas?? i tried to do the 8 boots but its only goes to three before prompting the restore.
should i update in try and revert to 1.40 or try and root again from sdcard? then unroot again?
i feel so needy...
1 option: download acclaim_update.zip by AdamOutler to restore 1.4.0 completely, after thaat if N button does not work then do the Quick access to factory reset (the how to is stickied here in general section) Root again using your computer. As you have rooted before i guess you already have drivers and adb installed and working OR try this best sdcard method to root, its easy (tested by me).
~ Veronica
actually, the root sd cards might work here. If you are booting fine and stuff is just wonky like the half rooted state, you can use the sd card to force root on. Then you can enjoy or you can use the unrooter app to properly unroot and restore back to stock (after rooting again)
I had the same "Parse Error" issue. Drove me crazy. Here's what I did to fix it.
1. Remove SD Card. If necessary, copy the packages to the internal memory ("Media" mount).
2. Turn Nook off.
3. Turn Nook on.
4. Try to re-install package using the "Package Installer" option. Should work.
In my experience, if I try to run the Packages using "App installer" first, I always get a "Parse error" when I try to do it with "Package installer". Then I have to remove the SDCard, turn off the Nook, etc....
But that is not normal
