Update Motorola Atrix to Official GB - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, the thing is that I have an Atrix 4G from Claro, Nicaragua with Froyo. Claro doesn't have released the official GB update. So I was wondering, is there any other way to update to GB? The phone is locked to Claro, and I don't want to pay to unlock it.
Thank you!

There are two different locks,
1. SIM lock (you can't use a different provider) this one can't be bypass without paying for an unlock code.
2. Boot loader lock. This one is the one that doesn't allows you to change you OS. Be careful because you could brick your phone unlocking the boot loader. Read a lot before doing it. Good luck

SIM Unlocked x10 - does update re-lock?

I have a Rogers branded x10 that I'm currently using with Fido. I'm interested in updating to the newest firmware, but I want to ensure that I don't lose my SIM unlock in the process.
Can someone please confirm?
No it won't.
I presume that you have unlocked it by code.

Thanks for the quick reply.
Yes it's by code, I sent my IMEI to this website and they provided me with a code.
once you are unlocked it wont relock, even if you root or flash different roms

Hmmm......well I'm not too sure but I think you should ask him. But if you use flashtools to unlock it it should be fine according to me. But ask him or wait for someone who knows for sure.

there are two types of unlock.
1) sim unlocking to use different network carriers
2) bootloader unlocking - to use different custom kernel nd roms for unlocked bootloader
as for sim unlocking, once you do it, it will not relock whatever you do
if you are planning to unlock your bootloader be sure that you have SETOOL sim certificate or SEMC sim certificate as stated in this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19685019&postcount=7

[Q] motorola atrix 4g bootloder unlock

Hey i have Motorola atix 4g Att phone. I'm from pakistan and ATT service is not available in Pakistan . My Sim is working on this phone which means its probably unlock . I want to to unlock my boot loader but i could not get understand from where should i start. i few confusion like as I'm not using ATT user so i will follow ATT pudding user guide ??? and please whats this pudding ? will it be remain network unlocked after up gradation. please help . I'm newbie and sorry for my poor English
It depends what carrier you obtained it from. I'm not familiar with the carriers in Pakistan, but if your phone is not from AT&T I would recommend following the International bootloader unlock (IHOP)

Well, if you have an IHOP phone, you'll have to apply a RAM fix after unlocking. If you have an AT&T phone, you should be set.
Just to be clear, there is no AT&T logo on the back cover of your Atrix?
If there is an AT&T logo, go ahead and flash using the AT&T pudding.
If your phone does not have the AT&T logo, you'll want to flash IHOP. If you have a non-AT&T device, the AT&T pudding will not work for you.
To be safe choose ihop I believe it works even on att so choose that to be safe

I'm sorry! I didn't realize you didn't know what Pudding was Pudding is just the term we use for the file that will unlock your device. That guide you just linked is perfect, and make sure you download the AT&T files.
Your device is an AT&T branded Atrix, so pretty much everything will work for your device.
Good luck with your bootloader, and enjoy!
Thx for help.
Well since it's an att atrix my video guide will work

[Q] What is the best thing to do?

I have a stock AT&T Atrix and im planning it to use abroad.
1. SIM unlock it. Change APN/Internet settings. Upgrade to 2.3.4 via OTA or Manual(US version).
2. SIM unlock. Upgrade to 2.3.4. Change APN.
3. Upgrade to 2.3.4. SIM unlock. change APN.
sorry for the noobish question. i just want to know which is the safer option.
Thanks in advance.
Technically u should just be able to use att's network via roaming, but its expensive. Cheapest option is to buy att world minutes unless u will be gone for a while. In that case, I would sim unlock and set up a plan with a foreign carrier.
If u are ever planning on rooting your ATRIX again, I would avoid OTA due to the possibility of hardbrick and the difficulty of further hacking. I would SIM unlock and do a fruitcake upgrade (via CWM) to 2.3.4

im planning to use the Atrix permanently abroad.
Oh ok. In that case I would do SIM unlock and install 2.3.4. via fruitcake updates (these can be installed with Clockwork mod)

whats with installing 2.3.4 via fruitcake updates? cant i upgrade manually through motorola site?

Getting latest firmware by editing build.prop

Hi Guys,
I was wondering if there is a way to get the latest gingerbread version by easily editing build.prop. I'm on Uk orange.
I remember doing this on my xperia x10 and I managed to change Uk version to Nordic version.
Unlocked handset from Orange
just using my old dead thread to ask a different question.
Will i get the gingerbread update if i unlock my handset originally bought from orange or will it still depends on when orange releases the update. I mean normal unlock by paying £5 and entering the unlock code on the phone and not the bootloader unlock

If you do a SIM unlock, you are still going to be waiting for the update from Orange whenever they release it because it's still their FW...

Is there a way to debrand by modifying build.prop file?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
No. You need to root your phonem unlock your bootloader, flash new firmware. I'm on Ornage UK and you lose most of your RAM when unlocking the bootloader before you flash new firmware.

[Q] About Unlocked and Roms

Well my case is like this!
I'm looking to buy a motorola photon online,it was on spring and it suposed to be unlocked for every carrier. i'm from mexico, we use telcel.
The motorola photon only comes with GB android, and i've always like to modify my phones with roms, root, etcs.
Before i do any transaction i'd like to know if i can instal ICS roms or any other cooked roms without loosing the unlocked carrier?.
I know that theres a lot of ways on unlocking carriers like imei and other programs, but if i loose it, the unlocking is gonna cost me something?
Unlocking the bootloader is only to install roms? or i can do an unlocking carrier by unlocking the bootloader? it cost me anything?
This method by Lokifish Marz is to unlock bootloader or carrier???

unlocking bootloader and installing a custom rom will not make you lose sim unlock

sim unlocking is usually only possible via SOLD sim unlock codes so yes, if you need to sim unlock you have to pay

unlocking the bootloader is done to be able to flash custom recovery, custom ROMs and custom Kernels, improving the performance and usability of your device

bootloader unlocking and carrier unlocking are not related. bootloader unlocking can be done for free by yourself with the help of the info here in XDA. SIM unlocking requires a code you usually have to buy.

losing 4G shouldn't be of much concern to you. Telcel doesn't use WIMAX 4G so you wouldn't have had any use to it anyway.

if the cell is 2.3.5 already it cannot be unlocked and you CANNOT downgrade it because you risk HARD brick
The sim is only locked in US.
All other sims work.
But stuck on GB. Even if you could flash ICS the photons kernel is so old the video doesn't work well.
